    I'm new to incubating. Thank you for candling to show development of chick in last stage. It was very helpful to me!

    Im looking forward to seeing them hatch! A few of mine drown due to higher humidity when I layed them out of the auto turner. Mine do fine in the upright position😊

      We're looking forward to it too. I've learned a few more lessons that I didn't know prior to this round, and plan to film a few of them cracking loose and coming into the world. I may do a live stream of the entire thing, but have to make sure I'm set up for it. I'll do a video of all of the babies when done though for sure. I'm going to be hatching out Easter Eggers in the next cycle too. :)

    I have this exact same incubator and I've had a lot of issues with the humidity... This first round...just with a few drops it Rockets towards 70% before you are @ lockdown also no ventilation holes in the top (which I made myself and it helped a little, but still) I'm gonna do dry hatching next round bc this was too much hussle for me... Trying to keep it good and stable... And not the greatest hatch rate from 42 eggs I started with 22 were viable 13 came out(12,5) one died during hatching so I have 12, lost 30 in total.

    • @MaxRebelliousPirate91
      @MaxRebelliousPirate91 ปีที่แล้ว

      My other incubator I started dry, with 30 eggs, On day 14 I lost only 4 eggs that stopped developing & moving... I will see before lockdown, but that's way less and I think is fine (humidity without water added is around 30% still)

    I know im really dum for asking this,when u say day 18 is lockdown does it mean the morning of day 18 orr is it more like the beginning of day 19,sorry its my first time and mine are on day 15 today

    • @HomesteadingBartramStyle
      @HomesteadingBartramStyle  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Day 18 is lockdown which means no more turning of the eggs. What time it’s done that day really doesn’t matter. I have actually left them in the turners longer with no real ill effect. So don’t sweat it if it’s end of day 18 that you do it or first thing on day 19.

    Eek I washed them. Well rinsed them, they were full of mud. I’m on day 17 and so far so good but lost a few in the beginning because they arrived cracked but I tried anyways. One had a small hole in it but didn’t rupture the paper skin (membrane?) inside and it’s growing normally. Thanks for the tips

    How can you have a younger embryo and ready to hatch chicks? Did you put eggs in at different times?

    • @HomesteadingBartramStyle
      @HomesteadingBartramStyle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes in that run I had a few eggs that were put in later. Marking them allows for easy ID of them. As for what to do for lockdown on those you either need a second incubator or have to keep the younger eggs rotated on your own. I have two incubators so it’s easy for me to do this.

  • @pol-ek3yq

    Is it normal for the eggs to move at day 17 going into 18 i kinda paniced and i took out the thing that rotates and i added more water i hope they hatch

    What if u forgot to take automatic turner out n one hatchs will it dead or get hurt

    • @HomesteadingBartramStyle
      @HomesteadingBartramStyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The turner will possibly cause the chicks to stick to the inside of the eggs. I've seen others that have had that issue. If you leave it on the entire time and allow them to hatch in the turner, it can cause the chicks harm when it turns as they bumble around for a while before they get used to walking normally.

    Can you change it from Celsius to degrees? Omg! The baby chick moving was AMAZING 🥰🥰

    • @HomesteadingBartramStyle
      @HomesteadingBartramStyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for asking the question, as it was one I was worried about in the beginning as well. Unfortunately, most of the control circuits for these things are being made in other countries so the quick and simple answer is no. The Celsius temperature reading isn't changeable according to the manual nor did I find a way while messing with the settings. However, just a side note, don't fear that, it's a easy conversion with google, and this thing is keeping it's temp wonderfully. The only time I've gotten an alarm is for the humidity unless I had the top off checking the eggs. :)

    What do you do with the one that is not ready if you have only 1 incubator

    • @GentlemenMonkey
      @GentlemenMonkey ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry my reply isn't timely but what I do if there is one or more I still hold out hope for but it's way behind the others is I'll break lockdown to move all the chicks to the brooder and then put the incubator right back into lockdown. It's my experience that one of two things happen: 1) the chick in that egg wasn't going to make it no matter what I did, or 2) it really is just a late hatcher and will come out in the next 48 hours and do just fine.
      People can argue that breaking lockdown is hurting the chick in the eggs chances but folks gotta remember that chickens are a numbers game, whether we like it or not that's just how nature is. A chick that needs everything absolutely perfect to come into the world is very unlikely to make it very long thereafter, they're off to a bad start no matter what you do. So best thing you can do overall is just treat the rest of the hatch as normal and that all hatching is done, but then return the incubator to lockdown as soon as you can to give the remaining egg(s) a chance.
      The final leg of hatching is really the hardest for us humans because it's largely out of our hands, just have to let nature take its course. We strive for 100% hatch but in reality we only control so much and the rest is up to nature. No matter how perfectly we set things up, there will be a percentage that just don't make it.
      So give your holdouts a chance to come to the party late but not at the expense of chicks that are already here. Take care of the chicks that have arrived and consider any late arrivals as bonus.
      I hope this is helpful for future hatches or anyone else who might read and be in that situation.

    Hey mate, good video, just one question, on the day 18 your eggs have been for 432 hours so far before you move them to the lock down, for how many hours do you keep the eggs/recent born chickens inside the lock down room??
    cheers bro

      @marcymarker255 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We recently hatched 14 chicks in this same incubator. The "Day" timer on the incubator did not match what we calculated. We went with our own counted days & did lockdown on our 18th day (which was the 16th day on the incubator's "Day" timer. I'm glad we did as we ended up having pipping going on on OUR 21st day. If we had waited...? We had to move our recently hatched chicks out of the 'bator and into their temp. brooder because they were very active and rolling the unhatched eggs all over the place! We gave them 24 hours before moving them into the temp brooder to make sure their feathers were dry enough. Good luck.

  • @bugs825

    Some of the biggest "experts" are commercial hatcheries that use a patented washing process of hydrogen peroxide to sterilize every egg. Some reports also say that using 3-6% hydrogen peroxide will eliminate salmonella in the egg. So, washing might not be bad if done correctly.

    • @marcymarker255
      @marcymarker255 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't recommend putting any chemicals on eggs. If you want to wash, I don't think you'll go wrong with just plain water.

    • @bugs825
      @bugs825 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcymarker255 peroxide is more about sterilizing the egg and has also been studied for reducing salmonella inside so the chick doesn't carry it. With warm and wet conditions, it's the bad bacteria that needs eliminated.

  • @thefreese1

    Also .. not washing your eggs allowed them to keep longer... especially if you are going to water store them in a lime solution..

    There are those who spray 3% hydrogen peroxide…patented…on egg and wipe…might introduce better oxygen levels as well as cleansing.
