corruption from the custom agents at the TSN airport, pay or delay; pickpocket everywhere from the market to inside the shop, prices are higher for the tourists than the locals, secret police and CCTV monitoring foreigners constantly. A constant registering your staying to the local authority at every stop along your trip.. VN is a heavily police state like NKr and China...One wrong move then you'll be locked up for a long time...
I had a guy claiming to be a policeman, who demanded to see my passport, when I was walking back to my hotel late at night in Saigon. I told him stuff of ,showed him my licence. Not enough, he said. I will arrest you, get on my bike and we will go to the police station or give me money. He demanded I empty my bank account at the nearest ATM. I refused, he drew his pistol and threatened to shoot me. I jumped behind a petrol pump and told him , shoot me blow us all up. Then I took off. To cut the long story short, tried to report this the next day at the local police headquarters , got told to f*** off. I booked my flight back to Thailand the next day
After watching halfway the film, I bet traffic, walking and riding are most dangerous. My god. no one obey traffic rules.
You're are absolutely right. Vietnam and actually most countries in Southeast Asia are the most dangerous countries in the world when it comes to traffic, but in this video, I focused on the crime issue, and when it comes to crime, Vietnam is one of the safest countries in the world 🙂
@@David.Robinowich Then you should have switched to better title. You are safe from crime but possible injury from walking and riding, I'm not bad mouthing the country. To me, needs more control than other Asian country. Vietnam is the King of Horning and Beeping for nothing, right?
Actually, I have a plan to do a video about the traffic issue and how dangerous it is. And yes, in Vietnam, you'll hear a lot of beep beep😁 but this is not for nothing. The reason is that because nobody looks anywhere but straight, there is no significant education in Vietnam to check the surrounding, therefore they always have to warn each other by honking the horn
Great video, but some areas safer than others. We have not had any issues here, but we are living in a city 1 hour from Hanoi.
@worldsendjourney4410 Yes, you're right. There are areas and cities that are safer than others, but in general, the entire country of Vietnam is very safe compared to other countries in the world
Great video and information

I want to get class A. What do i do. I have TRC and B1.
Hey, Your foreign license is irrelevant when it comes to license A, unless you have foreign License A, and then you can convert it to VN license. In your case, you can do a theory + practical test in Vietnam, and you'll have a VN license forever without an expiry date. I recommend doing this with DC motobikes. They can assist you with the theory test in Vietnamease and with the entire process
For U.S customers, what's the best way to convert back to dollars before I go back home?
It is usually in a gold shop.the best deal. Of course, you should check by yourself several money changers and gold shops in order to see where you will get the best deal
which is where the size difference steps in, honestly idk if size difference actually helps, but they should step up their notes design with more vibrant and colourful banknotes, and the denominations should be in a bigger font so people could recognise it
The size difference somewhat helps, but for a tourist, it's not enough, and he can mistake similar bills. I agree with you. It could help more vibrant and colorful banknotes
Hi David, I have a foreign drivers license with A/A1/A2/B1 designations. I also have a VN TRC card. Is it possible to get a VN Permanent (no expiration) A motorcycle license still? I am in Da Nang. Thanks
Hey You can have a VN license without an expiry date only if you do the theory + practical test in Vietnam, and your foreign license is irrelevant. Your foreign license is relevant only if you want to convert your license to VN license, but then your VN license will come with an expiry date according to your TRC/Passport/foreign license(the one whose validity has expired earlier)

Unfortunately, That is impossible. You must be a resident in order to get VN license As a tourist, you can drive only with an international driving license from a country that signed the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic in 1968 th-cam.com/video/4ssP3gKfxec/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s0EPMCZ6VMfxcHAC

Great video! I'm a frequent Vietnam traveler and definitely would recommend this video for anyone visiting for the first time! One suggestion would have been to help people quickly calculate the value in their own currency. Lots of US travelers and that's some of the easiest conversion ie. 500K = ~$20, 100K = ~$4, etc at current rates. I'm Canadian so I generally use 500K = ~$30 CDN as my quick conversion. Cheers!

I just used the HSBC ATM yesterday and unfortunately it now charges a 104000 VND fee. I used an American VISA debit. The message on the screen is "HSBC, the owner of this terminal will deduct VND 104,000 from your account as ATM access fee in addition to any fees your financial institute may charge"
@sbkpilot1 Some ATMs of HSBC take a fee. If you're talking about this specific ATM, I'm personally will check this ATM this weekend and I'll let you know how it goes for me. It's possible that you're right and things have changed over time, but I'll try this ATM and let you know
@sbkpilot1 Hey again Update I just checked the specific ATM in this video and no fee for me I tried two cards, mastercard and visa
@@David.Robinowich thanks, it did charge me a fee though, yes that exact HSBC ATM next to the Popeyes. So, I am guessing it may be charging it for US based cards? Not sure. In any case my bank refunds all my ATM fees worldwide so I am not charged either way :)
I'm glad you've got your refund. Honestly, I have no idea why the machine charges you a fee and doesn't charge me. The most important thing you've got your refund
Hopefully it doesn't charge for Canadian based debit cards; specifically EQ bank or Wealth Simple
Hi,bro! i dont understand. I have russian international license. For bike. Can i drive in vietnam?
In your case, you need an international driving license and you can drive in Vietnam
Thanks for the info, David. I'll be there at the end of March. My last visit was in 2015.
You're welcome Enjoy in Vietnam 🙂
Hi David, this is a fantastic video. Very well explained. I recently watched your short video (but can't seem to comment on the video). You mentioned that the A2 license is also changing. I am about to take the A2 test on Jan 3rd 2025 with DC Motorbikes. If I pass will it be classed now as an 'A' license and not an 'A2'? Thanks!
Yes, you'll have License A and Not A2. A is exactly the same as A2. the only difference is the title A instead of A2, that's all. Me myself I have A2, if the police will ever pull me over they'll consider my license as license A Good luck with the test 🙂
@@David.Robinowich ah that's awesome! Thanks for the clarification. The plan is to do a trip around the world in the future by applying for an international license after getting the Vietnamese one. The bike we plan to use is an 800cc... I checked and A2 only allows you to drive up to 395cc in UK (my home country). So I'm wondering if this change has made it easier now it's classed as 'A'! I wasn't aware of this before your video so thank you! 🙌
Dont worry, I have Vietnamese IDP and the A2 local VN license that i have is being translated by the IDP as License A, so don't worry, even in a case that you'll have A2 and not A, the IDP translate your local VN license as A And BTW, technically, as of 2025 if I want to, I can just go to the license department and replace my A2 license to A but I don't have to do it🙂
@@David.Robinowichoh wow... Ok you have just clarified another question I had in my mind! Thank you. It looks like it should all work as hoped. Merry Christmas mate 🎄🎁

I wish I saw this earlier. I just arrived in Ho Chi Minh City several days ago. The airport taxi station looks legit and the staff kept saying “price by meter” so I trusted him. However, when I reached hotel, the taxi meter showed 1640 but the driver asked for 280K VND. The guy was so ridiculously angry since I only have 260k VND as I haven’t withdrawn any additional cash from ATM yet. I almost begged the driver to accompany me to the hotel so that I can find ways to get more cash. The hotel guy told me that normally it’s around 150k VND by taxi from the airport. So I said I’m ok to pay 200K and actually I’m prepared to pay 260K. Anyway it’s not too much. It just annoyed me that the driver was so sly and so violent- he actually hit me in the arm. He didn’t want 200K and took my photo and then left. Not sure what will happen next. I feel bad for VietNam. What a shame to VietNam!
Sorry to hear that Honestly, I don't know what was your destination, I just can tell you that from the airport to the City Center(district 1 or 3) it's supposed to be approximately 80-100 thousand VND depending on the hour and the traffic. I have heard about people who get scamed in the airport, and they pay sometimes 10 times more This is why I made this short video I hope this video will help you from now on with the transportation. Download the recommended apps in this Video Pay attention that Go Jek is no longer in Vietnam, so you can use the apps Grab or Be
