    This is a tune that gets my heart. Was just watching Phoebes Against The Grain here on You Tube. So happy it’s available here now. I searched for it years ago and it wasn’t there. I won tickets to her concert featuring Against The Grain in the 80’s at my local state college. My prize also included the album, and I played it a lot and fell in love with all the songs. So bummed she and Valerie aren’t with us anymore 💔 I also had your album at the same time featuring Blue Bayou, unfortunately I left it on my turntable in the sun and it got warped really bad. But not before I knew all your songs too. Both you ladies made great music together especially Married Men!

    Beautiful blending of two great voices the likes of that we will never hear again & the respect that shows through on their faces for each other. Someone made a comment that Linda could do a duo with anyone & I agree. As powerful as her voice was, she always had respect & harmonised not out sung, that’s a true artist.

    That's a lovely version of the song ... and a great tribute to the late Margaret A (Maggie) Roche. Brings back wonderful memories of when I saw Maggie and Terre performing that (and other songs) in 1973 at the Troubadour club in London (UK) and at the 'Tepide Club de Sevenoaks' (in Kent, UK). Many thanks for posting this.

    • @ericpottersadventuresinsou1146

      wow! i didn't know that Maggie and Terre were playing Europe that early. maybe they were traveling with Paul Simon? i'm from 'New' Jersey, USA where they grew up. Seductive Reasoning (1975) is one of my most treasured LP's.

    • @ricktownend9144
      @ricktownend9144 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericpottersadventuresinsou1146 I think they recorded at least some of the tracks of Seductive Reasoning in the UK. They were not with Paul Simon; I met them when they turned up and did a floor-spot at the London Bluegrass Club (then at a bar under the Dominion Theatre - very central) where my band (the Echo Mountain Band) were performing. Maggie and Terre impressed us so much with their singing and self-composed songs - I remember 'the Mountain People' and 'Staying Home'. Over the following few weeks we saw them perform to spell-bound audiences and they came to see us for an informal music session. I really wish I'd got recordings! My memory of them singing and playing live is that they came over better that way than on the recording.
      Later on I saw the trio when they came to London to promote the various WB albums and became a certified Roches fan!

      @@ricktownend9144 how wonderful to hear this! i had a similar encounter almost ten years later with the trio when they came to our college to play. they stayed the night, and jams ensued. i was 17, and started to realize that music was not just for our entertainment, perhaps it was becoming the core of our lives. i chatted with Maggie quite a lot, and developed a heavy crush! but she was a dozen years my elder 😟 i love the song Mountain People. i gave my sister the LP when she moved to Boulder, CO from New Jersey, to go to college, it was perfect. thanks for the warm reflection. oh, do i miss dear Maggie.

      Fripp "discovered" the Roaches, and produced their first album, laying down some great guitar on top of several tracks, including an inspired lead on "The Hammond Song."
      He probably played on the original of this song, too!

    I look (and listen) to this magical musical performance and think how this would never happen today, there would be massive entourages from both singers, and all the nonsense trappings that artists today think is necessary to be "artists today". My guess is that Phoebe and Linda showed up for rehearsal earlier that day, probably went and grabbed a bite to eat (maybe together) and went back to do the show. SO simple, so elegant.

    I'm aware of Robert Fripp's relationship with The Roaches during this period, but I'm very interested in how Robert came to be playing Frippertronics as part of this performance given that The Roaches were not performing. (Robert is there, mostly hidden from view and way back in the mix, but you can see the tape machines in the background).

      Phoebe Snow or Linda Rondstadt
      1. Having watched "Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang" and feeling inspired by The Child Snatcher, set a trail of gourmet chocolates to lure Robert Fripp to 30 Rockafellar Center.
      2. Looked in a mirror, turned off the light, and thrice repeated "Ooh, Mr. Fripp!" while turning counter-clockwise. or
      3. Asked one of the Roaches.
