Saw at LA Coliseum in the 70s and her voice amplified the whole place. Stevie Nicks was there too (I do like her) but she didn’t compare to Linda. Will always remember that day.
Gorgeous important pipes. Linda had a rare combination of power and tenderness. She never bathed in her own reflection. Unadorned, natural, a songwriter's champion and the ability to break your heart and mend it in song. Rocking or crooning a very special songbird. These salutes are always a bit lame, still Ronstadt deserves all the honors. Her live vocal performances could be mesmerizing.
Linda was my favorite singer as well. She was from Tucson and I was born in Willcox, a town not too far from Tucson. I am a child of the 60s and 70s. Linda was out of sight!
A bashful beauty with magnificent pipes. Linda treated Chuck Berry, Motown, Hank Williams and the Stones with the same musical respect as Puccini and Gershwin. The way a fine orchestra interprets and celebrates Mozart and Bach - Ronstadt embraced a popular canon of songwriters. She had a gift shared by few others. She championed the best and they were devoted to her. How rare.
That’s true, I have several of her songs in my set lists. She’s hard to live up to but so many people love her songs as much as I do, they are just grateful to hear them despite not holding a candle to her exquisite voice. The term G.O.A.T. was invented for Linda. Simple as that. She sang to my heart from the first time I heard the Stone Poneys do Mike Nesmith's Different Drum. She was an intelligent genius whose songs were never just what they were. She explored the range of her vocal instrument as she trained it and when it couldn't continue to perform to her exacting standards, she gracefully retired it before the rest of us could even detect any imperceptible weakness.
