Yea, not very good comparison. The Strafe is NOT made of plastic, but it is covered by it. under the keycaps it is possible to see a metal plate which is the same as the one you see on the K70. The difference? The K70 has the plate exposed, it is not covered by any material. The Strafe has the metal plate covered by PBT plastic. So actually the Strafe is "more resistant" than its younger brother because it has one EXTRA good quality plastic plate on the TOP of the metal plate. Sorry bro, but you gotta study a bit more about these keyboards.
You said it is possible to see a metal plate underneath it so you don't really know as well. A brushed aluminium look and volume scroll wins unless you plan on buying the mx silent variant of the strafe.
Please don’t talk about those shit keycaps i picked up a k70 lux from corsair and after two days the keycaps became loose and you could pick them off As result the keycaps launched in the air if pressed on the side And i played less than 5 hours on it and most of it was typing... And with gaming i don’t abuse my setup
Basically Strafe RGB silent "noise reduction technology" it's like having O-rings, but integrated into the keyboard. It'll never be pure silent, since cherry mx have actuation. I just got a Strafe RGB Silent yesterday you do notice a slight difference from red, it's just not purely silent. Btw they feel just like reds.
Moeyz69 Is that the only reason? Personally I mainly play CS, so I'd rather not have possible input lag from not being directly plugged into the mobo...idk.
if u are getting the strafe for the rgbs dont because they get to a point where they are so bright they are distracting and doesnt come with all the stuff the k70 comes with and the k70 looks nicer overall
I am seriously having the hardest time choosing, I want the bright LEDs because well I'm buying a RGB keyboard.... but then I want the volume rocker, media keys and aluminum frame, but THEN I want the USB pass-through. Don't see how Corsair didn't recognize that if they added what people like about the K70 to the new Strafe it would be the highest selling keyboard on the market for a while. HARD DECISION
I got mine today. Thank u for helping me to decide on what to get randomfrankp. This Keyboard is a beast specially the bright RGB lights on it its so awesome to use.
+Duncan Sand It's a really bad comparison if you put some 3rd party stuff on the other one. The look of the keyboard is not the stock when it has custom keycaps.
I think they had to remove the pass through on the k70 RGB to power the lights. With the new strafe RGB Corsair found a way to redesign the board to keep the feature. I have had both keyboards (non RGB strafe) and the both have there pro's and con's, which Frank has highlighted extremely well.
Great review, very tidy and concrete. Thanks to you I could decide and buy the Strafe today ! I miss mentioning that the K70 has the wire mesh . Thanks man
I recently picked up a corsair k70 rgb rapidfire and I must say that is a very well built and versatile keyboard for productivity, chilling and gaming. The USB port at the back is also a great addition which my mouse is plugged into. I find the rgb very good and is all around a fantastic keyboard
I prefer the K70 due to the exposed key design. It is easier to clean the keys this way as the only place dirt can really be trapped is on the actual switches and under keycaps besides the multimedia controls but with the strafe the keys are in a closed compartment as it is like a box with cutouts for switches where as the K70 is just a flat surface with cutouts the multimedia controls are another plus for the K70 it really needs a updated revision with a USB passthrough
I've really enjoyed your comparison video, you're one of the most competent youtubers out there... but I'd like to point out some things. I honestly think white keycaps (I'm assuming Vortex PBT double-shot injected from Massdrop) limit the saturation of a backlight. I was hyped for them too but have reconsidered black ones. Too bad that you haven't compared non-bottoming out sound of the switches. It would be cool if you'd managed to provide sound dampeners as well!
Used the strafe for over a year and purchased the k70, I like the k70 more and it feels more sturdy. Yes the strafe of course is not made of pure plastic and it's actually quite heavy, the main problem for me was the sticker felt really cheap for a high end keyboard and the LED started to have issues after several months of use. And I couldn't return it to corsair because like I said, the sticker tore off.
3 years later and the Strafe keyboard still goes hard. the white baseplate as stated by other comments is anodized aluminium. It is structurally sound with a plastic plate over top. the cherry mx red silents are beautiful keys and the keyboard is very nice quality.
thanks!! :D im glad i didn't just go spending $170 for the k70 head on and waited for this comparison vid. great job! now im rooting for that strafe RGB giveaway even more!! Cheers to your channel! :D
Just got the strafe but comparing yours when its blue to mine, mine feels a lot more dark and not very blue, its more of dull cerulean blue... should I rma?
Since this video is a few years old, the new k70 lux rgb has the usb passthrough for anyone that wanted the standard k70 stuff as well as usb on their keyboard
I LOVE my STRAFE RGB. Yea... it doesn't have "dedicated" media keys. but your FN + F# keys basically do the exact same thing... The passthrough is perfect for your Corsair RGB mousepad. The layout is just clean AF, and like he said, the lights are bright AF. The included extra keys are amazing too.
Really well done comparison video! I was feeling a little bummed thinking the k70 was higher end than my strafe. Other than the music controls, I feel great again about the purchase. The strafe's color output is very crisp, bright, and responsive. The sound of the keystroke is actually satisfying. Typewriter like.
Just ordered my strafe rgb silent. It's coming tuesday and will be my last peripheral purchase, along with an extended white mouse pad I ordered to go with my white/black/blue/pink setup.
Wait... So dust only falls onto aluminium keyboards and not plastic ones? What? That was a random ass "con" for the K70. I have a K70 and I've owned Pok3rs, Razers, Logitechs and Ducky keyboards and plastic isn't made of magic Anti-Dust juice. Dust falls on it and if you 'run your finger' onto the plastic, you'll pick up dust too.
+Leowulf™ I think you completely missed the point buddy......with a plastic keyboard it is easier to clean. With a brush aluminum keyboard, the dust gets in the fine lines of the brushed metal and requires a lot more cleaning.
randomfrankp can you plz review the Asus rog 1080 strix and compare it to founder edition 1080 or dual gtx 1080 and can you also review the maingear vybe PC or just any maingear PC's they are great and would help ur. setup alot and is curved better then a flat monitor (gaming and watching video's only) plz answer these question's for me
spilled a drink on my k70 non rgb and I liked it alot, I play league csgo and gta on this keyboard, would the strafe rgb or the k70 rgb be for me, I liked everything about the original k70 especially the volume wheel even though I didn't use it as much it just felt nice to have, would the strafe be worth giving up that look and the brush aluminum? it does look nice with the white plate and all the colors being enhances, any help is appreciated, thanks
As an owner of a Corsair Strafe, I would recommend getting this keyboard if you are looking for a nice good keyboard for a budget, or if you are looking for a starter gaming keyboard this works as well, even though I am not a new person to gaming I would still like this keyboard even saying that it would be a good keyboard for beginning gamers, however I would have to add that if you are new it may take a little bit of time getting used to the keys (if you used a normal keyboard for past times) however this wouldn't be too much of a problem. It's pretty good to have for gaming and I think that Corsair did a good job making this keyboard. I would have to say for my hands of a 12 year old they are a little small, so in Fortnite I have most of my building keys set on my mouse, (Razer Deathadder)
Which one should I use for Osu? xD Like I have the Strafe Silent... But idk if it's good for a game like that :p (To play Osu you have to press two keys on the keyboard and aim over circles to hit them, it can go as fast as 270bpm... ) So I'd be pressing very fast... Which one do you recommend for fast instant tapping. As I feel like the strafe silent is more cushioned so its a bit harder to push down.
Great video. I have never tried the corsair and therefore i do not know about their software. I now have a razer keyboard, and i am looking to get rid of all thigs razer (tired of their support, service and crappy software stability). But one thing i like about the razer software, is that you can set the lights to turn off when the screen does. Is there a similar setting for corsair?
Anyone have any opinions or recommendations on which of these two to pick? Cant decide for the life of me:/ Like the aluminum base keyboard and volume keys built into the keyboard are what make me want the k70, but the strafe is newer, has a USB pass through and better lighting. The only thing i didn't like is the USB cord is just basic and the letters on the keyboard look kinda weird/cartoony and dont have on board options to control the sound. Any opinions would be great!
I just bought a K70 RGB brown switches, for some reason this feels A LOT lighter than blue switches. I heard it's suppose to have a good balance but this feels like a red switch unless I were to slowly press a key and focus on that little bump. Is this normal? I would normally think that this is a defect of some sort but came to realize that the chances of 104 keys having a defect would be too improbable. I compared these to the logitech g710 brown switches and it seemed like that keyboard is a bit heavier as well. I could feel the tactile bump on it much more than the k70 rgb. Still not too sure if this is suppose to be "normal" or not.
Is the strafe longer than the k70? I would really like to know because I have a small workspace and would like the smallest possible keyboard. I dont like the k65 because you have to get red switches which i dont want
Do the media controls keys on the strafe work on a mac? and does the program for the lighting work on a mac? My K70 got a full bottle of gatorade poured onto it so i need a new one. Decided if I should replace it with another K70 with no RGB or get the strafe with RGB. Please answer ASAP!
Frank, I asked 8 months ago and still am curious what the song was you used for the intro to this video. It is really catchy, but there is simply not enough song to get an ID with shazam app on my phone, or it's some sort of remix. So if you could point us toward the song/remix that would be amazing, thanks.
Nice comparison but you missed one major difference between the K70 RGB and Strafe RGB. The Strafe has an upgraded LED controller which truly supports 16.8 million colors while the K70 does not. You can enable 16.8 million color mode on the K70 but get flickering as a result due to the inferior LED controller
I'm having a really hard time to decide between those 2 keyboards while I really love the more premium look of the k70 rgb and that beautiful aluminum and the media keys, I do really love the more smooth and vivid improve lightning on the strafe as well the usb pass trough. I'm coming from a cooler master trigger brown switches, so they will be quite a big improvement to me Hope can I decide soon I'm buying my new keyboard on Monday
hey frank i recently got my k70 lux and a mm800 polaris apparently u can link them together so the color shifting is the same what software must i download? ty
One thing about the K70-K95 keyboards that people should know, which I didn't, is that they have a huge hole in the case under the spacebar, so if you ever spill liquid on your keyboard there is a good chance it will go straight into the circuitry.
No, on most other mechanical keyboards there isnt a big hole on top of the case that lets water go straight into the circuitry. A lot of mechanical keyboards are quite resistant to spills.
about to watch the video. I got the strafe about a month ago without doing much research since my main keyboard died. I like it but i kinda wish i got a k70 just for the media controls. Also my strafe is really sensitive and easy to press a button without trying just by having you fingers on the keys without pressing. Does the k70 have such a problem?
The keyboards both are fantastic but I think I give it to the Strafe. The RGB lights are much better and the USB pass through is just breaking the deal between them.
You mentioned that they are returning the mx blues on both of these keyboards, i was wondering how you found this out, or if i just misheard you. I really want a K70 rgb, but want MX blues. I really want to know this!
+brandon garcia It has gotten easier to use and has a lot more presets now. It's still not the easiest to use if you are going to start from scratch, but with the new one click presets you can do more sophisticated stuff than with any other company's software anyway.
The strafe is amazing. It has a USB pass through. The white on the sides would match my setup. And it's quiet! If they had a tenkeyless option, then it would be perfect.
What's the difference between red cherry and blue clicks, or whatever they're called? I know most PC parts but I don't really know what those even change... Is it for aesthetics?
I understand now, thanks! Just got my strafe for Christmas with brown mx switches... I also got a 1440p monitor but sadly i won't be able to run the monitor till I get another new 980ti (my old one was defective and stopped working after two weeks) back to 670 :C
It is really true?
MadsTer is that why the strafe is actually heavier than the k70 lux
I imagine yes. (don`t really look at the weight to be honest xD)
Found u biach.
You said it is possible to see a metal plate underneath it so you don't really know as well. A brushed aluminium look and volume scroll wins unless you plan on buying the mx silent variant of the strafe.
Would've been nice if you used stock black keycaps on the k70 for comparison.
Please don’t talk about those shit keycaps
i picked up a k70 lux from corsair and after two days the keycaps became loose and you could pick them off
As result the keycaps launched in the air if pressed on the side
And i played less than 5 hours on it and most of it was typing...
And with gaming i don’t abuse my setup
Chippies my keycaps are fine so idk what you’re talking about
@@chippies4854 I think you just got a defective/used model.
Omg you did it Frank. I was waiting for this comparison as I'm torn between the two!
Robert Oortwijn same omg
I'm getting the strafe because it's cheaper lmao
+NickTehGamerMC same here =)
and has better switches
too
getting the strafe just because of the silent keys lol
+TiMeJ34nD1T big reason why i got mine lol
Just a side note for all you avide gamers. Do not plug your mouse into the USB of the keyboard as it does add unnecessary input lag ;).
samisbacklol WTF that's what it was.
The difference is VERY minute, though.
Thou Dan King still, it exists
samisbacklol i have my mouse plugged into my keyboard thats plugged into a usb hub.
cpt white beard Lmao I'm gunna have my mouse connected to my keyboard that's connected to my monitor thats connected to my computer ..
no offence but the white keys look horrible
Kolosis its personal preference, what looks absolutely shit to you might look amazing to someone else. in my case, i kinda love it.
the only problem I have with it is the windows key and escape key, but I know the windows key is black bc the k70 doesn't have a standard bottom row.
Btw they feel just like reds.
k70 rbg doesn't have USB pass through? that's a deal breaker for me. my old k70 with red leds has a pass through so I assumed the rbg one did too.
That's exactly the same thoughts with me, I was going to get the k70, not anymore.. I might go razer black widow rgb/ ultimate
+Moeyz69 What do you use the USP pass for?
rikoLas mouse
Moeyz69 Is that the only reason? Personally I mainly play CS, so I'd rather not have possible input lag from not being directly plugged into the mobo...idk.
rikoLas input lag is negligible using the pass though and if you can feel anything, it's just a placebo
if u are getting the strafe for the rgbs dont because they get to a point where they are so bright they are distracting and doesnt come with all the stuff the k70 comes with and the k70 looks nicer overall
Brandon Stack Omg sameee but 2 years later xD
its because they want people to choose one and dont get the other. its a marketing thing
Wow, Logitech G502. Nice choice frank, I have one too.
Sayme
+Ignacio Muñoz Its the best on the market :)
+Pulver Eis Mionix Castor
Fux logitech, razer all the way
Same, the G502 is amazing!
I got mine today. Thank u for helping me to decide on what to get randomfrankp. This Keyboard is a beast specially the bright RGB lights on it its so awesome to use.
Why tf would you put custom keycaps on one of the 2 compared keyboards...
Why not?
+Duncan Sand It's a really bad comparison if you put some 3rd party stuff on the other one. The look of the keyboard is not the stock when it has custom keycaps.
+GoProDude™ and you're the only one who complained about it ... It's not like I give a shit about the key caps I care about the performance
IiroMikola I'm kinda late but he didn't compare both of their keycaps soo..
I think they had to remove the pass through on the k70 RGB to power the lights. With the new strafe RGB Corsair found a way to redesign the board to keep the feature.
I have had both keyboards (non RGB strafe) and the both have there pro's and con's, which Frank has highlighted extremely well.
Im here EXACTLY 3 years later
Thanks man I was really struggling to figure out which one I wanted but you made the decision so much easier I'm gonna go with the Strafe
Now that is what I was talking about - very nice and much needed comparison (well atleast for me).... keep it up bro
great comparison review. your reviews have gotten a lot better over the year(s)
I prefer the K70 due to the exposed key design. if you want the usb passthrough then you can get the k70 lux witch is the exact same thing just with a different font and the usb passthrough
It would be cool if you'd managed to provide sound dampeners as well!

now im rooting for that strafe RGB giveaway even more!!
Cheers to your channel! :D
Theres also RGB MX Blue available on the strafe. check out amazon
Critter too bad they're always are out of stock, I've been trying to buy one for the past month
Eryche Bandy www.amazon.com/Corsair-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit-Multicolor/dp/B014W1YLAM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479616027&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=corsair+strafe+RGB+blue&psc=1
Out of stock
oh shit there was one left when i sent that to you
Critter I've been checking the listing every few hours to see if it's in stock, I might just buy it directly from corsair since they have it
Just got the strafe but comparing yours when its blue to mine, mine feels a lot more dark and not very blue, its more of dull cerulean blue... should I rma?
Since this video is a few years old, the new k70 lux rgb has the usb passthrough for anyone that wanted the standard k70 stuff as well as usb on their keyboard
I actually just got a Strafe RGB in my area. Totally loving it! Also it has around a $25 delta to the K70 in my country :) Definitely a great buy :D

The strafe's color output is very crisp, bright, and responsive. The sound of the keystroke is actually satisfying. Typewriter like.
Thanks for helping me decide for the strafe keyboard :)
Can you have a video where you show the difference between Razer Blackwidow Chroma and Razer Blackwidow Ultimate ? :
+Norwegian Gamer RGB lights mostly
One has rgb, one doesn't... You're welcome.
There is non
+Nick “DaNoobTrilogy” Vietri ?
Should I buy a K70 Rapodfire with the MX Speeds which I btw adore or settle for a strafe and svae up for a pair of nice headphones
Just ordered my strafe rgb silent. It's coming tuesday and will be my last peripheral purchase, along with an extended white mouse pad I ordered to go with my white/black/blue/pink setup.
Is there a strafe tkl? I know there is a k70 version but I like the strafe better. Also do both have the same lightning patterns
THANK YOU!! I was very indecisive about these two ... I am getting the Corsair Strafe RGB :)
Helped me decide. Thanks for the video!!
Wait... So dust only falls onto aluminium keyboards and not plastic ones? What? That was a random ass "con" for the K70.

the grooves on the brushed aluminum make it harder to wipe down.. kinda a given
Just build your own fam.
spilled a drink on my k70 non rgb and I liked it alot, I play league csgo and gta on this keyboard, would the strafe rgb or the k70 rgb be for me, I liked everything about the original k70 especially the volume wheel even though I didn't use it as much it just felt nice to have, would the strafe be worth giving up that look and the brush aluminum? it does look nice with the white plate and all the colors being enhances, any help is appreciated, thanks
Thank you. This point of view was just what I needed to hear.
CreepOnTheRoll Get the k70 rgb with cherry mx reds they're really good for streaming ;D
thanks for mentioning that issue about the dust on k70's aluminum finish
Great video. I have never tried the corsair and therefore i do not know about their software. Is the strafe longer than the k70? I would really like to know because I have a small workspace and would like the smallest possible keyboard. I dont like the k65 because you have to get red switches which i dont want
What keycaps do you have for your k70 (the white keycaps) and would they work on a strafe?
thanks great review as always... am going for the Strafe RGB
0:00 What type of music is that?
Do the media controls keys on the strafe work on a mac? and does the program for the lighting work on a mac? My K70 got a full bottle of gatorade poured onto it so i need a new one. Decided if I should replace it with another K70 with no RGB or get the strafe with RGB. Please answer ASAP!
What LEDs do you have in your computer? And behind your desk? I love them!
Frank, I asked 8 months ago and still am curious what the song was you used for the intro to this video. It is really catchy, but there is simply not enough song to get an ID with shazam app on my phone, or it's some sort of remix.
So if you could point us toward the song/remix that would be amazing, thanks.
you should review the cm storm quickfire tk/rapid-i or the razer deathstalker chroma
Very nice and detailful video!
The Strafe RGB also comes in MX Blue, in fact I'm typing on a Strafe RGB with MX Blue switches right now.
the entire point of the strafe is the MX silents, if you got the MX blues you should have gotten the k70
I'm having a really hard time to decide between those 2 keyboards while I really love the more premium look of the k70 rgb and that beautiful aluminum and the media keys, I do really love the more smooth and vivid improve lightning on the strafe as well the usb pass trough.
I'm coming from a cooler master trigger brown switches, so they will be quite a big improvement to me
Hope can I decide soon I'm buying my new keyboard on Monday
I know this video was posted like 1,5 year ago, but where did you buy the key caps?? Thank you in advance!
How did your Vortex Doubleshot PBT keycaps on the K70 RGB holding up Frank? Is it all still good?
I still went with the strafe, but I wish it had a braided cable.
why did corsair stop producing them with cherry mx blues
hey frank i recently got my k70 lux and a mm800 polaris apparently u can link them together so the color shifting is the same what software must i download? ty
Were do you get white key caps?
One thing about the K70-K95 keyboards that people should know, which I didn't, is that they have a huge hole in the case under the spacebar, so if you ever spill liquid on your keyboard there is a good chance it will go straight into the circuitry.
Lmao isn't it common knowledge that when you spill liquids on electronics it fries a lot of the time
No, on most other mechanical keyboards there isnt a big hole on top of the case that lets water go straight into the circuitry. A lot of mechanical keyboards are quite resistant to spills.
moyga I never knew that, but then again I never tested ;)
what is the song
thanks man for the awesome review
about to watch the video. I got the strafe about a month ago without doing much research since my main keyboard died. I like it but i kinda wish i got a k70 just for the media controls. Also my strafe is really sensitive and easy to press a button without trying just by having you fingers on the keys without pressing. Does the k70 have such a problem?
that depends on the switches not the keyboard. If you bought the k70 with the same switches it shouldn't make a difference
Zeek920
they are dedicated buttons for volume, and play/pause/skip music (instead of having them on the function keys)
where did you buy white keycaps for K70? TIA :)
I really want to know this!
do you send these videos back to the companies once youre done or do you keep it?
frankp where did you get the white keycaps! id would like to do the same for my k65 rgb
Do mx Browns have like the same tack tile bump as the blues just more responsive and quitter
Hello, where di you get the white key caps for your K70? Thanks!
Switches in 70 staggers when you touch it talking about dust on 70. Is there the same in strafe?
Where'd you get your keycaps from? I love how they look with the rgb and contrast with the black body of the k70
I'm wondering, is the software the same for both keyboards? Please answer quick because I'm going to order soon. =]
Are you just wrapping the wire for the mouse up underneath your keyboard?
So if you were to put the white keycaps on the Strafe, would that make it even more bright, or would it not make much of a difference?
yes the strafe is brighter
Felipe Lopez Sorry for the late reply. thanks!
Your welcome
Are there extra keys for the strafe without the tiretrack grip? I can't stand that look.
Where can I order those sexy white key caps for the corsair k70?
Massdrop
+Carson Clark mechanicalkeyboards.com, amazon.com, or geekkeys.com They are called Vortex PBT+POM.
Frank can you send a link for those white key caps, and can they fit on the Strafe?
How do you get the white key caps? I love how it looks. Super sick
Has the corsair software gotten easier to use? Leaning towards the strafe rgb
+brandon garcia It has gotten easier to use and has a lot more presets now. It's still not the easiest to use if you are going to start from scratch, but with the new one click presets you can do more sophisticated stuff than with any other company's software anyway.
This is my biggest debate as far as my setup goes. Iv'e narrowed it down between the K70 & Strafe RGB variants. I have no clue what to go with.
Strafe has a better light controller hence no flickering unlike the k70
The strafe is amazing. It has a USB pass through. The white on the sides would match my setup. And it's quiet! If they had a tenkeyless option, then it would be perfect.
What's the difference between red cherry and blue clicks, or whatever they're called? I know most PC parts but I don't really know what those even change... Is it for aesthetics?
***** What do you mean by "tactile feedback"?
I understand now, thanks! Just got my strafe for Christmas with brown mx switches... I also got a 1440p monitor but sadly i won't be able to run the monitor till I get another new 980ti (my old one was defective and stopped working after two weeks) back to 670 :C
***** I want to die :c
***** But uh
Just ordered 1080 picking it up tomorrow, and my 670 is actually handling this monitor very well xD
But randomfrankp if you go on amazon and search for the Corsair Gaming K70 RGB Rapidfire, It does have a usb port?
Why can't there ever be a best of both?? ;(
Where did you bought the white keycaps?
Is that some sort of DAC or something between your computer case and monitor? Whatever it is, I want one :)
So rgb strafe or varmilo vb87m? (The wireless is kind of important to me)
Where did you get the white keycaps Frank?
I went for the K70 over the strafe as its such a nice solid keyboard, the sound control on the fly is essential for me.
