    This is by far the best demonstration of capabilities I have seen for any synth on TH-cam. Less talking, more showing and playing, just as it should be to run through at least a tiny fraction of the possible sounds of this amazing machine.
    I used to think I could be very happy using soft synths and analogue emulations, and for many years I've actually not seen a real synth I could really like that would change my mind, despite having looked for one every now and again.
    When I started looking again a few weeks ago, I suddenly found the Moog Sub 37, and it looks like exactly the kind of synth I have been wanting all my life without really knowing about it. The sound quality, the versatility as well as ease of use with its mostly one knob per function user interface, simply makes it by far the best synthesizer I have ever seen or heard of.
    I honestly think that the sonic possibilities are so limitless someone could make an entire musical career out of creating album after album using nothing else but the Moog 37 while still making every single track sound fresh and original and timeless.
    I think years from now, this machine will still be considered a groundbreaking classic that finally brings the exquisite lushness of analogue sound into the ultimate user-friendliness of the digital age. If ever a synth could be said to be retro and futuristic at the same time, it must be this.
    Indeed, it is really hard to conceive of ways on which this can be improved upon, short of adding onboard delay and reverb followed by stereo output. Since internal delay and reverb could be controlled in all the same varied ways as the rest of the synth's features, that could make for really interesting possibilites.
    Still, the more I listen to it, the more I know I will get one, and a good delay pedal to go with it, despite not really being able to afford it. For some reason, I feel I can't afford not to. I'm sure anyone else lusting after this epic piece of kit can understand the sentiment.
    Anyway, thanks again for posting this video. I think it's the ultimate video about the ultimate synth. I am sure many others will have been in two minds about getting one, but then becoming certain after watching this. It's exactly this kind of video musicians and hobbyists alike need to make decisions about any kind of musical gear.

      What's great about the SUB-37 is that it contains in it pretty much everything you cannot do in software well - the authentic nonlinearities of analog, the overloading of an amplifier (in 3 different ways - overdriving the voice, feedback distortion, and multidrive), and the way the envelope is set up is just lovely. Even the oscillators sound really fat and warm by default.
      If someone used 99% software but wanted that 1 synth that will fill the gap of analog, it's this one.

      Ultimate mono? Maybe... But now that the Moog One is just about here, I think they've outdone themselves again. This and a Moog One for poly would be all I ever need.

I just looked at the price on this and I'm blown away at how inexpensive a real Moog with many of the sought after features is. I wish I was gigging more, I'd find a way to need one as a drummer. • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Liam Donaldson! Much of the time Daniel is starting from the INITIALIZED PRESET. Other times they are presets that he personally made. At one point in the video though, he randomly hit a couple of factory presets without looking (to add some Zen) and just started tweaking. But, aside from those 2 or 3 three factory presets, everything was original or created on the spot. Let us know if you have any other questions or if we can help you with anything. I have never been so newly invigorated creatively, than last July when I added my Sub 37, and first Moog. NICE DEMO! At the 15:00+ mark, it shows that the Sub 37 is more than capable in rich 'vintage creamy' Moog sounds but also goes *everywhere* in-between! Absolutely best gear purchase in while. Mr. Fisher is absolutely correct where he stated on SW website that he new the Sub 37 would be regarded as one of the best performance analogs of this 'analog renaissance', and I am paraphrasing, of course but entirely agree! Moog hit this out of the park and parking lot...It goes REALLY well with my Poly Evolver Rack and Mono Evolver Keys...and Eventide Space and some Lexicon magic...the Sub 37 just may have to have a second one or two if and when a rack unit of it may be released...or just get another Tribute...love it to pieces and...Sweetwater Rules!

      David Bennett the Little Phatty has a more classic Moog sound. So if you’re playing more vintage inspired tunes, get it. This one is darker and more modern sounding.

    Starting at 5:37 during the reso sweep, is it just me or is there actually a slight "step" to the filter?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Toasted Toast, Once the Resonance is up high enough to sing at each of the individual harmonics, it will seem that the Filter is jumping from harmonic to harmonic, but it's still sweeping smoothly. (It's one of the things I really like about Moog Filters. Try running those harmonic arpeggiations though a clean ping-pong delay - like at 10:56.) You can tell that the Filter sweep is smooth when I'm using less Resonance, starting at 4:50. Thanks for watching!

    Would it be worth selling a Sub Phatty to get this? I love my Phatty, and it sounds a bit grittier than this, but the modulation options here are hard to pass up.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Haut Strange. Any sound you can make on a Sub Phatty can also be made on a Sub 37. Having already learned on a Sub Phatty, you would very much enjoy easy access to all of the Sub Phatty parameters that required you to open the manual each time. And the sequencer is initially easy, but can be tweaked into doing extraordinary things. Thanks for watching!

      I used the TC Electronic Flashback on the Ping Pong setting. I chose it because you can get a very un-colored repeats that are basically identical to the original source. That way, you're just hearing more iterations of the Moog instead of outside sound shaping. Pretty much any un-colored delay that has Pink Pong will give the same results.

    It shows that you don't need drugs to take an artistic trip... Or does it ? Anyway this video is a full live concert ! Bravo !

    I cry. I already got the Voyager XL, and now I am trying to justify getting this beast without selling the XL! Can you think what could be done by hooking up my Beatsep Pro to the XL, the Sub 37 and my 104m delay? Might throw the Virus in there as well. Pandemonium!!!!

    so sub 37 or little phatty..which one, for house music production?? and why??

    • @GB3770
      @GB3770 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this one cos it is MUCH better....specifically it is better cos: 1. it has more knobs and 2. has wayyyy more modulation options - not that you will need them doing house BUT this one is still better.
      It also looks better...the other one is a bit plastic....BUT the other one is half the cost of this....little phatty is v v good - deadmau5 uses one so...sure its good enough for you but if you are one of those rare music people who has lots of money get this...
