    Wanted to say thanks to everyone who have watched the video and left so much important, valuable feedback and truly kind comments! So appreciate you all!
    As for the Moog One not being included: It is a very large and expensive synthesizer to fly with and I was just recovering from pneumonia when I did this shoot. So it had to stay at my studio this time. Also, the Moog One is so beautifully feature rich and deep that it would have made this video twice as long. I’m sure sometime in the near future I’ll return to focus on just the amazing depth of the Moog One and show you just how unique and expansive it truly is. Not to mention the beautiful support that Moog Music is providing for it.
    I have fallen in love with it and it’s sound. It is an entire electronic music lab in one beautiful package. It’s also a beautiful and creative inducing contrast to the other synthesizers covered in this video.
    I consider it a large modular system with full polyphonic capabilities, along with film score quality sound.
    It’s worth it...
    I’m working hard to really master my accuracy and speed of developing a fast moving and fun tutorial for the Moog One. Until then, here’s a nice introductory feature of the Moog One I conducted at the Factory...
    th-cam.com/video/lK-Jj-tksME/w-d-xo.html
    Thanks again for all your kind enthusiasm and have fun patching & creating your own music!
    Love to all, LBD ❤️☕️

    I first watched this 3 years ago and today I finally bought the grandmother and as a guitar player who has no idea how to play anything with a keyboard .. I can’t wait to learn !! So excited

  • @GabrielVelasco

    I love the performance aspect of a true synthesist, as opposed to a piano player playing a synth. I like how a true synthesist "plays" the filter, LFO, etc. controls live. They're really a "playable" part of the instruments that makes is so much more expressive.

    • @jacobesmagobes8664
      @jacobesmagobes8664 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gabriel Velasco I totally agree! A true synthesist is really amazing to watch and listen to!

    • @kengruz669
      @kengruz669 5 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      But don't overlook the fact that Lisa is also a very capable keyboardist, which all synthesists are not. True, you can create, and in real-time, mold and change sound, even if you have no keyboard background. But adding a player's technical keyboard playing ability is another tool in one's toolbox, and releases limitations a less-experienced or capable player has in being able to make choices and express themselves when playing.

    • @RayyMusik
      @RayyMusik 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ken gruz The point is: you don’t have to permanently use one or even both hands for knob-twiddling in order to do a synth justice, i.e. to not play it like a kind of static organ. I love to *play* with both hands *and* simultaneously change the sound. The magic word is *aftertouch*.
      I mostly have 4 to 6 parameters routed to it resulting in either subtle nuances or completely different patches.
      My choice was the Subsequent 37, btw, because it’s the only one which can store such a mod matrix setting in a preset.

    • @kengruz669
      @kengruz669 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RayyMusik I understood the point. Let's just call keyboards, pedals and such- Controllers. And like any controller, the more skilled you are to use them- even a knob, or a keyboard- the better advantage you have.

    • @rdean150
      @rdean150 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RayyMusik Yes on an fronts. Craft a melody by tickling the ivories and caress it into mind boggling worlds by playing the knobs. The other secret to doing both simultaneously is to use an expression pedal, which not only gives you another appendage for direct control, it also naturally leads to getting your whole body physically into the rhythm as you expressively pump the pedal with your performance. The Subsequent 37 is my desert island synth. The sequencing, patch memory, amazing total DAW integration, complex modulation options, and obviously the stunning sound quality. I would buy a second Subsequent before buying a Minimoog or Grandmother. The Matriarch is tempting for the 4 voice paraphony, hi-pass and stereo low pass filters, but the lack of patch memory, hidden configuration parameters and simplified envelopes seem like painful compromises when compared to the Subsequent. And I'm very curious if any of the Moogs discussed here other than the Subsequent output MIDI CC on every knob.

    I wish I could take synth patching lessons from her. She is obviously very talented and knowledgeable. She should record and sell a synth programming master class, a whole course that starts with the basics and ends with advanced synth programming and patching techniques that get you to the point where you can pretty much hear a sound in your head and be able to reproduce it on the synth. She could break it up into "semesters" that start with the basics and proceed from there. I would definitely pay for that.

    This is just an incredible demo. It’s awesome to see someone utilizing these gorgeous machines, who has the knowledge of synthesis, and applies it, as opposed to so many other demos, where the person showing the synthesizer treats it almost like a keyboard with effects knobs. This was a treat to watch. I got my Grandmother this past weekend, and after a month of research, getting to play with one at guitar center, one of the deciding factors in buying one was watching another video that Reverb did , comparing it to the Korg Minilogue (which I have as well) , along with all my other research, and the fact the the semi modular capability allows me to use other modular synths like the DFAM or Mother 32, any kind of module that could be used in modular setup... since it arrived, it’s easily the synth I play the most, over the Minilogue or my OP-1 . I love using all my synths to create layered pieces, but there is nothing like a Moog, or I should say the Grandmother, since it’s the only Moog I own, after wanting a Moog since the 90s. As a guitarist, nearing 3 decades of playing guitar, I’m completely entranced with synthesis, learning more about it, and couldn’t be happier with the GM. Even the very cool, yet simple box the Grandmother comes in, is awesome .

      Yes, the most humble synth or drum machine etc is better than a multi-grand machine if it is totally pliable in your hands inside and out...find the limits, push and try to break them...use lots of guitar pedals, so many cool, odd and cheap ones ahaha.

    • @wulyf4lyf
      @wulyf4lyf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do it. I’ve been a guitarist for 28 years, and just got one. You will not be disappointed. It’s the most incredible thing to sit and create with, but my only advice would be to study a bit of synthesis . There are vids everywhere, but it makes it so much better when you understand what everything does/why. Guitar pedals helped me a bit, but a few nights of watching modular synthesis vids really helped. I also have the Korg Minilogue, which has awesome pad sounds, and versatility, but doesn’t come anywhere close to the beast of a synth the Grandmother is. Look on Sweetwater for a demo, which will bring it to 899, as opposed to 999, and it’s barely used by them for videos and whatnot, 2 year warranty, everything in the gorgeous box, cables in a nice bag... I’ve also seen the grandmother go for 750 used on Reverb, same with the Subsequent 37 for under 1000. I think a lot of people buy these (there are 3 different synth models w keys onboard, and the eurorack mother 32 and DFAM on display at Guitar Center by me, front and center) get home, and realize that they’re not the same as keyboards, and take some learning, so they probably become frustrated and put them up on Reverb, bc there are A LOT of these on Reverb. Best choice I ever made was to buy the Grandmother. I’m already planning on getting the DFAM next, to add to my Korg Minilogue, Teenage Engineer OP-1, Grandmother, Drumbrute impact....
      It’s definitely a “Go For It” situation, if you can part with 999 bucks (or cheaper for demo or used) . Think of it as a guitarist, if Fender released something along the lines of a Custom Shop ‘63 Strat, but for 1000 bucks. These are hand made /assembled in Asheville, N.C. with wood sourced from Tennessee, and metal sourced from Missouri. 81 employees who assemble every instrument, now own 49% of the company as part of a stock ownership plan, which is pretty awesome too. You really can’t go wrong with the Grandmother. I’ve heard lifelong Moog obsessives, who have raved about the Grandmother say that it should be more expensive. I’m so happy with mine, and wouldn’t trade or sell it for anything. It’s a constant source of inspiration, esp as a guitarist, when I get in a rut, and hit a wall trying to work out songs.

    Really happy with my Mother 32 and DFAM. I love westcoast synthesis because it gets under your skin, however, a Moog and a reverb go straight to your heart.

    I've got 2 Moog synths (Subsequent 37 CV, and DFAM). The thing I noticed about analog synths, in a recording studio setting, is that they do produce a notable self-noise floor. When working with digital synths, you get no noise at all. However, no digital synth sounds as good as a real analog one, that's clear.
