    Great dive into this cool sounding synth. Totally agree its strength is dialing it in like a mono synth. The filter really growls and shines with each note.Just a ton of harmonics. The reverb works really well with the harmonics. I think this will become a classic, if not already one.

    The "KB Reset" feature is actually really useful for single oscillator bass patches (which, as you know, are a must have in most genres of electronica). You get a lot more punch. I learned that from reading the user manual of all places if you can believe that.

    Its absolutely still worth getting, nothing has happened since it came out to make it obsolete. I personally think the PRO3 is the smarter buy for most people, and there is other competition, but its very much worth considering. Moog sound, with great interface, and lots of modulation, patch storage, stable tuning, duophonic, 4 filter slopes, the multidrive....its truly great

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Christine! I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've got a Pro 2 and while it can do way more, I just gravitate to the sub 37 every single time! Do you prefer the Pro 3? i'd like to get my hands on one to review.

    • @marvinkmooneyoz
      @marvinkmooneyoz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MilesAwayOfficial I prefer the PRO3 to the sub37 overall, but prefer the PRO2 overall to either. But its just a complicated enough situation to require some explanation. The 37 and the PRO3 are better stand alone monos, and theres ways to enhance them through connectivity to other gear, but not to the degree that the PRO2 can. That filter section is just too great, plus the two pressure and position sensitive touch strips. Send something with a VCO or two into the PRO2, or send just anything at all into it, and you can do way more overall, then with the other two synths mentioned. PRO2 gives you so much flexibility, and the sound overall is great too, Lush or lovely feedback drive boost distortion. The 37 and pro3 have great filters, but its one filter at a time, no where near as cool as the flex filter section

      @@marvinkmooneyoz late reply but I love the praise on the Pro 2. I’ve honestly not gelled with mine that well, but I don’t have modular to connect it with so perhaps that’s the issue. I appreciate the high praise though, I will make sure to try to give the pro 2 more love!

    Great video. I’ve had my Subsequent 37 for a couple of years now and it’s hands down the most inspiring and tweakable synth I have, and I have a few.
    The comment on gain staging is spot on. It took me a while to figure out why I could easily get mean, fat sounds but not delicate fluffy ones… it was that gain knob. In most synths you’d think 80% or even 100% is fine. Not here unless you want that monstrous sound.
    The other thing is the envelopes. They have so many features controlling how they’re triggered which, together with the glide controls make this a superbly musical synth, since you control phrasing of solos, bass and sequenced sounds so well - much like you would with a physical instrument.
    I can’t imagine ever selling my sub37.

      Thanks for watching! That’s a really tough call. I actually sold my old school voyager and kept my sub 37 just cause of the USB midi, but they really do sound different.
      Between the sub and the subsequent ill be honest I have a soft spot for the extra saturated sound of the Sub! Add onto that you can find them used for fairly cheap next to the subsequent and it’s a winner. Only thing to note is the Key bed on the subsequent is much better than the sub 37.

I've mostly used it for live gigs but recently I've been doing film scoring with it, and this thing is so much fun. Can I poly- (or para-) chain Sub-37 with a Sub-25? I am liking what you are showing about the Sub-37 but I want it to be at least a 4-note synth. Meanwhile, I already have a Sub-25. So if I can chain the 2 units, that will be a compelling consideration. 😊

      @MilesAwayOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Late reply but thanks so much for the donation :) I have never tried poly chaining synths as I find its a bit janky, so I can't confirm if it works. If I were you, I would just save a bit more and get a Matriarch if 4 moog voices are important for you, I used to have a Matriarch and its the best moog by far for playing chords, its paraphonic
      This forum post says polychain does work, but decide for yourself.

      The Sub 25 / Sub Phatty is a great synth, but I go over pros and cons in that video :)

    I have a weird love-hate relationship with mine. When I first got it a few years ago, I used like every feature, loved every bit of it. As time went on I used less and less of it, and found sections of it kind of annoying (the multi presses for sequencer stuff, etc.)
    I do noodle around with advanced patches from time to time, but in practical use its usually simple bass most of the time, especially when I bring it to a friends place. Sometimes I wonder if I should go back just having a minitaur again, or even a sub25 since it doesn't have the features I don't use + some extra portability. I kind of wish they'd make a 25 key left hand bass machine, no wheels or anything, basically a minitaur with keys (and some extra controls for hidden shift features.) Alas, that'd be too close to sub 25 or a minitaur. But everyone's use cases are different of course.

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally feel this. I find I barely use the Sub 37’s deeper features either, but I just love the core sound with the multidrive/ feedback so much. I actually had a voyager and matriarch and sold them both cause I liked the Sub 37 more for my basses (heresy I know), so I don’t mind not using all the features
