    Very Cool - The Fact that you have mentioned Linux more than once has me very excited. I wish more of the HAM mfg's would get on the Linux wagon instead of assuming everyone has or even wants the latest version of Winbloat.

    I think the LED should be mounted to the side facing the user! And maybe have a little snap on case, to protect everything. I am sure someone could crank one out with a plastics prototyper machine! (3d printer)

    Has anyone had a solution to the RF issue causing the AIOC to lock up? I've read that this is only an issue on stock antenna and that an external antenna connected via coax is good. Also the developer states audio extension cables with ferrite filters may work.

    • @w1btr

      Ive experienced this when using a standard usb c cable. Using one that ends in a right angle fixed it for me. It usually happens when the usb connection between the pc and the aioc fails (typically from rfi hitting the usb controller)

    What PTT settings do you use for your AIOC in Direwolf? I’ve followed the instructions on the AIOC GitHub page, but no luck. I’ve tried both CM108 on a RPi4 w/ Linux and COM port on a Windows laptop.

  • @aaronhope8366

    Could you set this up to work with a Baofeng to serve as a repeater identifier?
    My issue is that I have a pair of radios that I'm using as a repeater, but I have to get a second device to do the CW identification at this rate unless I want to start soldering on the boards. There are versions of arduino fox hunt transmitters that nearly fit the use case, but this is much more compact if we can make it work.
    Example : 10 seconds after hearing anything, send PTT and CW, start 10 minute timer, if during that 10 minute timer, more audio is heard, repeat CW transmission and restart 10 min time, else terminate loop.

    This is interesting, after building digipeaters for several years this is what is needed. It looks like its aimed at HTs and thats fine. I use higher powered radios for most of my work and I would need to make cables for these with packet ports. So do you have a schematic so I can work that out.

  • @G0NMY

    So the issue of the USB-C port pointing upwards and RF from the antenna causing data issues, could the device be programmed to change the io pins so the plugs can be wired in reverse so the usb-c port points down? Would that be easy to implement???

    • @w1btr
      @w1btr  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not very, it would require a redesign of the board. The original designer said it would be too difficult to implement. However, I am looking at the AIOB, an all-in-one board that lets you easily make your own custom cable and has some small changes. This would allow the AIOC to not be plugged in right next to the radio, but down the line further.

    The K connector is very limiting. Using something generic like a DIN or DB9 with interface cables to various radios would make it much more useful and attractive. Just a line lump with the USB on one end and a mini-DIN or DB9 on the other end would be ideal.

    The form factor of it very nice, I am thinking about trying to install it inside a mono band mobile (i.e. FT-2980). That way it is just a USB from the radio to the controller (i.e. Pi zero running direwolf)
    Would make for a really nice remote digipeater. Any thoughts?

    Hate to say it, but this is completely and totally inaccurate of a statement. The Digirig and Signalink both perform way better than the AIOC in my situations due to the lack of RF protection of the interface. RF near the AIOC causes it to lock up with the PTT active. This device also fails to work properly under MacOSX due to the USB driver / audio driver lacking proper support. I've not tested with Windows yet (I will) but it does work fairly well with Linux. Sadly the developer doesn't have the proper equipment to test the device under anything but Linux (seemingly) and has no seeming motivation to address the driver issues. That being said, the G1LRO Universal Radio Controller which is based on the AIOC addresses the RF issue for the most part, he recommends (rightly) to remove the antenna from the HT and use an external antenna to prevent the radio locking up.
