Great walkthrough, EXCEPT for your definition of the SOLO function on each channel! Selecting "PFL Solo" on a channel allows you (i.e. the person running the mixer) to hear just that channel (or channels if you solo more than one) through the headphones and/or the control room outputs. It does NOT solo a channel in the MAIN output mix. It's primarily a tool for the sound engineer to listen to and adjust individual channels without having to turn everything else down. For example, if a band is playing and you want to adjust the EQ on the lead singer's mic, you can put on headphones, solo that channel, and then listen to them without the rest of the mix and make your adjustments without having to adjust the levels of any other channels. It's a very helpful tool, but definitely not used for muting all the other channels in the main output. I just wanted to clarify in case that was confusing for anyone. Thanks!

Hi I think it is a perfect mixer for me. I want to use it for live streaming. Would you choose a different model for live streaming? Is it suitable to record with an Ipad Pro with usb C or with an iPhone? I see that you have a very professional channel and that is why I trust your advice:)

Hi! I'm a Twitch partner streamer and have been loving this mixer for live-streaming. I just upgraded from the ProFx10v3 to this one, the ProFx12v3. Only major issue I have that I can't seem to figure out - which btw was not an issue on the 10v3 - is how to get my desktop audio into my headphones without the rest of my audio suddenly sounding whack.
When I press the "to phones/control rm" button my desktop audio instantly comes in but it also affects all my other open audio channels, making them sound louder. I'm a violinist, so I run my violin with my DPA mic through channel 1, have some nice reverb (from the mixer) on it. As soon as I click that "to phones.." etc button, it adds raw dry audio to it - not on my live stream, but in my headphones and even the blend switch or anything else I tried can fix it. I'm trying to find a way to have my great violin audio but also get the desktop audio in my headphones.
Hopefully I explained it well enough:) Thanks for your time!

I’ve asked on another video but saw this.
Thanks for the video. I’ve had the Pro FX12 for years and just got the Pro FX22v3. What I didn’t realize was that there’s no graphic equalizer sliders on the v3. I’m used to that on the old version and wondering if there’s no need or if I should tie in an equalizer. Old school here and like to really tune my live sound. Thanks!

    • @expertisland
      @expertisland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

equalizer is not old school more forgotten school, with the advent of powered speakers everyone just slowly forgot about all the pre-amp gear. I already have a video about the benefits of a 31 band EQ here is the link th-cam.com/video/yHGvRrik1Ow/w-d-xo.html

@@expertisland thanks. Really appreciate the quick reply! Just great videos! So, one more question. I have the Pro FX22v3. I’m using the three aux outs to three monitors. I’m wondering if the only option for this board if I’m using those monitor outs is to hook the eq to the main xlr speaker outs then from the eq to the sub and mains. Both mains go to the sub left and right then left and right outs from sub to mains (doing stereo.) Sound right, or is there another way to in-line the eq on the board? The fx is open but I don’t want to loose the option of using effects. Thanks!

I'm hoping you can answer a question - I'm wondering if this could be used to support "Hybrid Meetings" via Zoom or other Web conferencing solutions. I am hoping to:
    1) take the XLR output from a Wireless Conferencing mic system and feed it thru the mixer to a Laptop connected to the Zoom meeting so remote participants can hear folks in the room, and
    2) feed the audio coming from the remote participants on the Zoom meeting from the laptop over USB to this mixer and then out to a pair of powered speakers so that the room participants can hear the remote participants.

Have a question about playback through my monitors but then without having to switch anything, being able to record without feedback.
I have an Alesis eight-track mixer which has those "Auxiliary" (Aux) knobs and what I do is use THOSE to output the audio (for recording) to my computer, therefore, allowing me to keep the bottom level output knob (in the case of this mixer it's a slider) all the way down which accomplishes this (prevents feedback while recording).
Could I do the same thing with this mixer using ITS Aux knobs?
I realize most voiceover people probably just use their headphones for playback and keep the monitors shut off, but I like to record and then immediately playback through the speakers (without having to worry about switching switches to prevent feedback). Will these Auxiliary sends accomplish that (like my Alesis does)?
FYI, It looks like this mixer has those yet, the same mixer in the 10 track version doesn't appear to have the Aux knobs.

This mixer has 3 types of outputs Aux/Monitor, Headphones/control room, Main out. Keep an open mind and you have great options for IEMs and stage Monitors

Studio One should work but note you only have the 2 main output channel to work with.

I starting to think that I lost money buying a Mackie pro fx 12x3. After plugging in the guitar I cannot hear anything. I changed the cables and still silence. No movement in Main meters.

Question for ya (or any Mackoid who can help me):
I'm in the market to buy the ProFX12v3 Mixer.
I currently have an old Mackie 802VLZ3 mixer that has MUTE button/Alt 3/4 on all the channels and a CONTROL ROOM SOURCE MATRIX that allows you to route Main Mix, Alt 3/4 & Tape to Control Room/Submix Knob. It's a nifty feature that I'm not sure how to replicate with the ProFX12v3.
QUESTION: Can the ProFX12v3 Mixer replicate those CONTROL ROOM SOURCE MATRIX functions and then some?

Hi , I have the mix 12 fx... Going into the mixer I have an xlr cable for my mic into slot 1, and a direct 1/4 line going into 2 for my guitar .. going out I have 1/4 line going into speaker channel 1, and a xlr going into speaker channel 2... Both are 1/4 lines leaving left main out and right main out ... When I raise the fader volume and get to 5 DB line which is in the bottom range of where I should be I get a hum or bad white noise sound .. I even added a 2 to 3 prong adapter on the end of the main plug for the mixer .. the hum is still there .. is there anything you can think of to stop this ??

XLR OR TRS OR (TR) CABLES, YOUR 1/4" CABLES HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH THAT HUM. RESEARCH THE BEST OR KIND OF CABLES YOU NEED FOR YOUR SPECIFIC APPLICATION. NO ALL CABLES ARE CREATED EQUAL. SOME OF THESE INSERTS TAKE MONO (TR) CABLE ONLY IN ONE END AND IN THE OTHER END STEREO (TRS). EXPERT ISLAND HAS SOME VIDEOS ON THE USE OF CABLES. LOOK IT UP.

I can think of 2 things that may be the issue. First, you may be mixing balanced and single ended connections. It has to be one or the other for both pieces. For example, if you have your guitar going into a balanced input on the mixer, this will give you a problem. To fix it, you'll either need to somehow switch the mixer channel to run single ended (if possible), or use a direct box to convert yor guitar signal to balanced.
You can also have too much gain. The first thing you need to do is locate every volume/signal level control in the entire system. Once you locate them all, you need to check each adjustment and determine if its a volume control, or a gain control. After you get that sorted out, you're going to fix the problem using the gain controls. You need to keep reducing the gain until the noise goes away. The issue can be with just one gain control being set to high, or several of them. But the main thing to keep in mind, is the problem will be fixed with your gain adjustment, not volume. If you are having trouble figuring out what type of control you're dealing with, gain controls are on the input of a component, and volume controls are on the output section of the component.

I have a question I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. This mixer is listed as being analog. However, there is a built in sound card and digital effects. If you don't use the digital features, does the analog signal still get converted to digital, and then back to analog while going through the mixer?

Good question. Not sure, but since the FX can be progressively added ranging from, 0% fx or completely dry to 100% fx or completely wet, I imagine both sections are running in parallel. If this is the case then there's always 2 signals inside the unit that are blended and balanced together, one analog and one digital.

Looking at this one and the Allen & Heath ZEDi-10 10-channel mixer without the effects. For a first mixer, this Mackie seem a tad overwhelming. But this one has sliders for everything, the A&H only has one single slider for the output. So, this Mackie is way better equipped. Allen & Heath has a 4 x 4 USB interface, the sampling rate goes to 96 kHz. Mackie as a USB interface is a 2 x 4 grid, butit goes up to 192 kilos of sampling. Hard decision. Any input, suggestion here would be well received.

So basically you cannot choose Effect 1 for Input 1 (lets say a guitar) and at the same time choose Effect 2 for Input 2? (lets say a mic with my voice), eright? So its 1 effect only for all inputs at once, right???

The top right corner ... plug your monitor out in to the mon, then plug your left and right XLRs in to the outputs ... then straight to your amplifier or powered speakers.
