I always thought Pearl should have made the free floaters adjustable in depth. Why not have the lugs in sections that can be removed for 8,6.5,5,3.5 depths and a shell with removable rings just like the chad smith?
That’s a beauty! I had a 3.5x14 brass free floater in the late 80s to early 90s. Incredibly load drum! If this drum is a 3 mm cast brass and steel that must be a heavy drum. Sounds beautiful!
Aaahhh!!! Should I get this snare? Cause I keep deciding between this one and the Ultracast Aluminium 14x6.5, which is discontinued and I kinda have an opportunity of getting one. As for the Tricolon: there were two of them in the store - one is gone already and the other one left. It's just a $1000 piece of gear) Cannot decide(
It's the age old question that always gets me as well, if I was you I would look at a DW brass as it's like the all round player, just good at everything. If not go the Chad. Just my opinion though.
he definitely did ‘em dirty, but you can tell he hasn’t been happy for a while. there’s an video of a clinic he did where he told a story about using a vintage set of drums in the studio that were *Gretsch* and it was a humorous tale of Pearl wanting to come take pics of his new Pearl kit they sent him to track with and him having to hurry and tear it down and then set up the vintage one after they left… a funny story, but you could see it in his eyes that he was lusting after other drums lol it was the end of an era when his signed with DW
Other drummers have done the same in the past.....former Yamaha artist was on a clinic tour and mid flight home changed brands after they spent all this money on promo etc. He landed and was playing another brand.
The High tuning 8:04 has my name all over it. Great sounding drum. Love the colour of your DW Kit. ❤
That colour on that kit is amazing and if I could get another in that colour I would.
I think the low tuning sounds great . Nice drum. Well played.
Thanks man, it was a great drum to own.

Just about perfect at every tension, IMO. Wow! Always loved the Free Floaters. Great video!

Earl Bennett I see no seems at all and yes 3mm, if you find one get it....
Beautiful drum!
You should hear it.
Oh I love medium tuning.
This is one of those drums that I do regret letting go.....maybe.
wow nice sound...
Thank you 😋
I have a African mahogany 8 by 14 and a 5 by 14 maple free floater also have a Cooper insert love them all except the cooper insert
I think you need to hunt down that Copper insert ASAP and make peoples head snap at gigs.
The gold dw snare at the beginning. I have a very similar one from 1995. What year is yours? What do you know about it? Is it brass? Great video btw.
It's a bell brass (bronze) seamless monster.
Nice. What year? What do you think the value is? Thank you!

I AM DRUMMER if to go the full brass, I'd rather go for the Reference Brass snare but it's even more expensive)
Sega Milkis Decisions decisions, trust your ears.
I've never seen chad smith use this snare drum ??
I don't think I have either.
I kinda hate Chad for switching from pearl to DW after they created this masterpiece of design and function specifically for him.
F him)

doesnt sound as good as the DW but still sounds great!
It's a different animal and it's almost like a weapon sitting on a shelf to be used. To me it stands out but I love the DW.
For sure! Ever seen Mr Smith playing on it?
Funnily never.....did he ever?
All videos I watch on snare drums, low tuning sounds bad on all videos except this one.
I can't argue with you on this one, it's a brilliant drum.
