I can’t stand waiting 20+ mins for a game to start and the constant momentum killers of BS calls, it’s so annoying. I could care less about nba teams shooting 3s if they are wide open, just stop with the BS calls.

@@livingthecubelife3944with the amount of brainrot and attention span people have now days, they wouldn’t be able to watch slow, back to the basket type of play. The nba is lucky quick offense and 3 point shooting is popular because if it was the other way around the numbers could possibly be worse.

1.) Too expensive to watch; have to purchase a variety of things to watch your own local team. (Cable, Hulu, Netflix, etc.)
2.) Politics: only sport that talks about it when people want to watch sports not politics.
3.) Gambling: it’s become a thing for the league to promote it constantly and it’s costing the outcomes of these games.
4.) 3-PT shooting: way too many teams offenses are too eerily similar. Instead of bully ball down low and midrange with occasional three pointers it’s almost a boatload of three point shooting.
5.) Officials: These officials have got to be the most soft, sensitive and no feel for the game referees of all time. Adam Silver refuses to let officials take the blame and cover their asses more than ever.
Baldy has got work to do to fix this mess because he started it all.

Neither was Stern. Neither of them ever played basketball at the NBA level. They're both business men. They need to have a commissioner who played the game, was loyal to the team they played for, and cares about the quality of the game. Also the players should vote for the commissioner like they vote for the players association president. If the commissioner is going to have the power then at least he should have played the game because he will care about the game first. If he improves the game then the money will come because the players will play the kind of basketball the people want to watch. Imagine if Magic Johnson or Larry Bird or Michael Jordan or Patrick Ewing were commissioner. They might bring back hand checks, have more input into choosing refs, widen the pool in that area and see if we keep getting the crap we get now. There needs to be change in this regard to improve the quality of the game.

As a European, by far the worst thing about watching American sports is the constant stopping of play to show adverts.
The right wing will always be angry, it's what their politics is all about and we shouldn't stop people talking about it. Remember how pissed off with MJ was when he chose not to get involved in politics?
    As some first steps I'd:
1: cut the number of timeouts to give more flow to the game and make it more enjoyable to watch.
2: Change the referring standards to make the game more physical and feisty. We miss the rivalries of Bulls v Knicks, Magic v Bird etc.
3: Make it easier to watch. Put all the games in 1 place and stop with the bullshit geographical restrictions.

3’s take the majority of the blame. It’s a lazy cop out to offence. Instead of using your brain and athleticism to generate a shot you just drive and kick constantly. People don’t like to watch repetition, they like to watch creativity, athleticism, uniqueness. The reason Caitlin Clark and Curry can take 3s and be popular is because they do step backs, fadeaways and hit tough shots while be guarded like a hawk. It is not repetitive. You’re missing the nuance behind why the average player shooting 3s is so bad for the league

I don’t think moving the 3 point line is going to change that statistic either. Why leave points on the board with 2s? I also think the nba stars moving around and teaming up with others has made the NBA even more boring. Like when LeBron did it with Miami it was the biggest news ever! Now every time I hear something like that I don’t even react anymore. I also agree with players missing so many games is causing fans to get disinterested as well. I agree. I think the main problem is simply the reffing. If the league established improved standardized rules, then it would fix a lot of problems. Techs for excessive flopping and complaining, allow more physical defense and incidental contact, actually call travels and carries... and make the new updated rules clear to everyone like they did a couple years ago with the flopping rules and whatnot. All of this would even out the defense and offense some more, and we might actually get some new styles of play out of it

Politics is the real reason in my opinion. I didn’t vote Kamala and I have no problem with anyone who did. I just don’t wanna hear about it. I don’t even wanna hear anyone talk about Trump. It’s basketball man!

This idea that people aren't watching because of politics is nonsense. How often is politics coming up during play? Basically never

@ people watch post game press conferences. It comes up wayy more than it should. No point in playing stupid about it. I’ve been a LeBron fan my entire life. Always will be. The dude gets shit on more than he should but it’s hard to watch him talk about equality when people who are basically slaves are making his shoes. The NBA treated the Rockets organization like crap when they spoke out against the CCP. It’s there man

Cost and local blackouts also a real problem. I live in an area where apparently 5 teams are considered local. I got hot to find that the local teams are blocked for away games. That pisses me off. I have too many subscriptions already I'm not gonna pay to have five teams home and away games blocked. I cancelled subscriptions and will find better and less insulting uses of my time.

The game is much weaker than before. There's no real rivalries and rules have changed to make it more score friendly. 3 pointers just made it more obvious. There's also much less hustle from players compared to the past. College basketball is more entertaining at this point. Not everyone is a die hard fan. I would say most aren't and if it's not entertaining diehard fans won't watch. Players, coaches, owners are responsible.

Your first point hit the nail on the head for me.
Them making players wear “pride” shirts, and basically spitting in the face of every Christian, Muslim, Jew..etc was it for me.
    SEPARATE POLITICS AND SPORTS!!

So real. And during the whole BLM movement, it was so heavily frown upon by the media to NOT kneel which is insane. What happened to, idk, freedom of expression and autonomy? But I digress🤷‍♂
Side note: It feels so disingenuous to amplify the voices of a minority to THAT much of an extent. There was no active hate or exclusion going on prior to the pride stuff so I don't understand the need to virtue signal so hard by doing so.

the problem is that when you see how these players interact with one another you get the feeling that competition is dead. Why are you so friendly to guys on the other team. Lebron started this soft culture, people want to see competition, real competition. Plus the players don't care about winning, it's all about the money for them, why should I be a loyal fan when these players aren't loyal to anything but themselves.

Wemby and Ant are absolutely "enough" to carry the league. The problem is that Wemby is 7'4 shooting 16 3 pointers on Christmas Day, while also getting robbed from a W by the refs.
Ant (9.9 3s) has practically the same shot chart as Tatum (10.6 3s), but Tatum gets 7.2 free throws per game to Ants 3.9. The league is the problem and who they decide to promote (Harden, Tatum, SGA, Brunson...), not the players

The problem is, people can watch post game highlights and it is ok no need to watch the entire game.
Also there are a lot of sources in the internet and social media where to watch live NBA games.
The NBA cannot see the actual numbers of global viewers and supporters of the NBA games.

NBA as is now forgot people have lives. Games dont start on time, stupidly long ad breaks, if you want to follow a certain team well better subscribe to a milion chanels. And also how are you gonna generate hype if the next day matches play on another service.
Just imagine at the end of a match: and tommorow Spurs @ Lakers and we hear "Hey grandpa, move" and then see wemby dunking over Lebron.

To me it’s a few things:
-7 ft tall people shooting 3s
    -Stars choosing not to play
-Impossible to watch games I want to watch without every streaming service
-Every team plays the same way
    -Endless commercials
-Every day teams have new uniforms and play on a new court
    -Announcers are garbage

38 year old die hard basketball fan here…Loved watching Jordan and Kobe of course.
    The problem now is
    1. The style of play (too many 3’s) Steph didn’t ruin the game, the coaches did b thinking there players are Steph Curry!
    2. The players complain EVERY SINGLE play for a foul not being called, in a softer era I might add.
80s and 90s players got clobbered and hacked all the time and didn’t complain. They embraced it.
THAT is Adam Silvers fault by letting this whining attitude go on, along with the refs who don’t put these players in their place.
    3. The league has many Stars and Superstars but they don’t have that aura, or Star appeal about them. Boring personalities like Tatum, Brown, Shai, Lillard, and sorry to say even Jokic. He’s unbelievable, but doesn’t have a likable personality to market.
The stars are there with Giannis, Luka, Wemby, Ant Man, Maxey, Booker, LaMelo, DeAaron Fox, and Brunson. Along with the OG’s LeBron, Steph, KD, Kyrie and Harden.
So less 3 point shooting, more mid range, more creativity, less complaining about fouls, more competition, don’t allow Stars to sit and rest so much, and do a better job marketing the stars they have so the viewer can fall in love with their personality.

It’s a multitude of issues for us. As a (former)leftist NYer the game isn’t recognizable. Us New Yorkers loved watching guards drive to the paint and absorb contact now everything is a foul or a step back three along with player availability. It’s not one thing that cancels out the league. It’s multiple factors that just make it a legit boring product

The problem is not the players or gameplay, it’s the schedule and the pricing to watch. The NFL own sundays and people look forward to their favorite team to play. In the nba it’s a lot of games and random days. They should adopt what they did for Christmas when we have several game back to back on a Wednesday but move it to a Saturday. On Saturday we set time aside to watch several games and more viewers.

To me, it's because of: The officiating, needed multiple streaming services or subscriptions to watch one game (or multiple if your TV can play 4 channels at once in real time), lack of marketing the next generation of stars, not being allowed to defend consistently, biased media, and LeBron

The biggest problem is an 82 game season. Nobody cares about watching the Pistons vs Hornets on a Tuesday night like 4 times a season. It gets boring and repetitive. 82 games is way too much and it makes it more prone for people to tune out.

The problem is the NBA rigs its games but does not rig it for who we want to see. Warriors are the most valued team, Curry is the most popular athletes but the refs are causing them to lose games. They should have a favorable whistle every game

Ewing: But it wasn’t “mostly” guys with backs to net, Hakeem was a lot of fun to watch, the bigs back then were skillful on offense. Battling low or dishing low is more entertaining than watching a lot of missed 3’s, especially consecutive missed 3’s, it also allows everyone to trot back on defense. Just one man’s humble opinion. Merry New Year!

different apps/services is killing the ratings. all games arent viewable by regular TV anymore. one day your team is viewed on one app, then the next day you need to sub to a different streaming service just to watch the same team.
