    I cannot stress the importance of learning how to walk away-not just in physical fights but in interpersonal conflict in general. If a relationship or situation is ugly, charged, and going to get much worse, please just learn to walk away. It's the stoic and manly thing to do. This is the most valuable insight I've gained in my almost 50 years on this planet, and I use this strategy to great success in relationships, business, conflicts-you name it. It works.

      🎯🎯🎯🎯 One of the things that often gets overlooked in discussions, or even training, on this topic are the legal consequences of laying a beating on someone else even if (in your possibly valid) you’re protecting yourself. Most of the laws seem to have been crafted by people who have either never been in a fight or forgot what it’s like AND have the social position to pay others to do their heavy lifting. Any violent confrontation, wherever it occurs, serious enough to warrant examination by the DA is potentially a crime and if that determination goes against you, you’ve created a six-figure criminal defense scenario for yourself. Ditto if the guy subsequently passes away, an autopsy is ordered and the coroner determines that cause of death is a consequence of the altercation that he started. You might get charged with involuntary manslaughter or even second degree murder. This isn’t to suggest that you should allow some dirtbag to drag you into the alley and take liberties on you by ANY means. Just be aware that you’re opening the door to an absolute shyt show even if you don’t end up in a cell. Walk away if you can, run if you must. Having witnesses that can & will testify in court that you took kinetic action to avoid trouble might help you down the road…

    The older I get the more I am acutely aware of my surroundings & keep distance away from anyone who even has the slightest inkling of looking unstable. The bottom line is I don't have health insurance. I can't afford a preventable doctors visit or worse a hospital stay much less getting arrested if I end up doing the damage.

    Never let anyone come into your Personal Space like that, always treat it like a Threat.
    The 3 foot rule all around, why would you invade someone’s personal space like that unless you plan on attacking someone.
    I don’t know you, I’m not giving you a hug, this ain’t Church and you’re not getting a handshake either. Sure as hell no Mistletoe above me so no smooches.

      It’s legally assault to get that close and can be defended against with force.

    • @ninjacats1647
      @ninjacats1647 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Spatial awareness is super important with regards to the people around you. Sometimes if I feel like someone is walking towards me and I get a smidge of a notion that they might be a threat even if they aren't, I walk off to the side. This forces them to change direction to continue heading towards me. If they do that is an immediate red flag for me.
      I also watch out for aggressive banter. People often use aggressive banter to escalate fights. Most people don't banter with people they don't know, and if someone you don't know is bantering with you to get a rise out of you - instant red flag. And one of the best advice I got from Asmongold is to never banter with someone you don't know so you don't end up starting fights yourself.

I said no because if I did, I'd have to take off my shirt, and if we're both shirtless, then there's a chance our nipples might touch. And that's just gay. While this is happening, the guy is backpeddling away from me while I keep advancing towards him. He then starts putting his shirt back on and tells me to do the same with my pants. I tell him I won't because I'm comfortable, and at this point, my mind is in fight mode. He ends up running away while calling me a 'pyscho' and a 'lunatic'😂

    In police street survival training, adjusting clothes, etc. are called “attack indicators”. There is a training video captured on dash cam of a lone police officer making a traffic stop. The officer was a very large man, probably 6’6” about 350 pounds. According to colleagues, he relied on his intimidating size to control the situation, despite being about 60 years old and not a skilled fighter. As he is conducting the stop he discovered a large quantity of marijuana in the trunk. The three much smaller men in the car are out of the vehicle. The officer is not controlling the situation, even though he now knows he’s dealing with three felons. The smugglers are just moving around freely. One of them takes his hat off and tosses it aside. Clearly, getting ready for a fight. Suddenly, he rushes the officer and tackles him, then the other two jump in. The officer was killed with his own gun.

    Taking your shirt off is more about giving them less to grab onto imo but I also grew up playing hockey where controlling a person’s jersey is key to winning fights. If someone takes anything off, I assume they’re ready to go and they know what they’re doing

    • @fightscience
      @fightscience  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed. Using the clothes is also called the Hockey Punch. Although some young kids don't understand the logic, rather it's more about appearing to look like they know what they are doing. Just a thought.

    When I was groing up in a place that had a lot of fights - I used to be scared around people who could fight - I used to think "okay, he does this or that - I'm gonna strike" - when the guy did do this or that, that LINE kept moving farther away. The first time I was confident and hit first (without hesitation) - it was SOOO liberating. Always try and walk away first - but if u know it's COMING - he who hesitates is LOST!

    When will I ever learn about their hands? After all these years it has never been a box of sweets or flowers. Seriously though, the sucker punch is very common these days (from watching videos, I'm too old for street beefs, I have acquired a black belt in Run Fu and Ju Jets Off) but when I was young it was usually starting to ball their fists and worse of all the telegraphed load up for a haymaker, dominant hand going back with alternate leg step forward (the latter was generally a drunk in a pub).

      The bladed stance is only an indicator if they know how to fight. You're going to get knocked out looking for some punk to get into a trained fighting position, and he hits you while facing you square with off-balance, clumsy swings. The average thug doesn't get into fights, he just hits people who don't fight back and doesn't really know how to punch properly in most cases, so he won't know about angled stances and will face you squarely.

    Taking your shirt off is smart and dumb depending on how and why you do it... Most take their shirt off so they're not easily grabbed which is smart but the downside to that is if you don't take it off quickly, you now give your opponent the opportunity to strike while your shirt is covering your face and keeping it that way so you won't be able to see... I've seen that a number of times... So if you're gonna take your shirt off so you're not easily grabbed... Do it fast and at a safe distance.

    I was once on a public bus during rush hour, and one guy triggered by my pushing through the crowd gently because everyone was close to the door grabbed my hand and started yelling at me. I looked at him directly, said only that I am pushing because everyone was close to the bus door with an empty spot in the middle and moved away not cowardly. He yelled for a few seconds more, i packed my stuff and put the ground on what I had in my hands, and put glasses in the box, prepared if he came for whatever reason he has in his tiny mind, to have continued of conversation

    Younger I didn't go picking fights never did, but like a damned fool rarely walked away either. Throat and balls I'm too old and scared now for Queens rules. Over a yr ago some tough kid was in a store kept staring at me (my hat 1st Cav) following me and banging freezer doors next to me finally I was too scared not to confront him (when fear consumes me it tends to become a focused rage). I took my glasses off put them in my pocket and said something like "did I do something to you?" he saw the keys thru my fingers, I was probably staring at his fleshy neck. I scared the sht out of him. Said he thought I was a Proud Boy or something then he quickly left. I was pretty shaken for days.

    • @Rhiorrha
      @Rhiorrha หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The only time you can actually walk away is when somebody's like 20 ft away from you shouting insults and telling you "Yeah, keep walkin'. You don't want this.". When they're 5 ft away or closer, they're not going to let you leave without laying hands on you, be it a single-finger shove to your forehead before they walk off, feeling they put you in your place, or a full blown attempt to knock you out and stomp and rob you, they're going to lay hands on you before they walk away. People are crazy these days and only getting worse. You don-t know what they intend when they close on you and you have to assume a fight is coming cuz nobody closes in on someone they don't think they can beat.
