The US soundtrack will always be special to me. There's a unique sense of 90's dystopian atmosphere that no other Sonic game has. I'm thankful for this OST's existence.
Whenever I hear this theme, I just envision a starlit cityscape hanging miles above the highest clouds. Endless columns of light illuminate landmarks and create a sort of beacon for travelers and such. Somewhere in the runways of the city, a blue blur speeds up and down, casually destroying Badniks and Time Machines as the time ticks ever closer in the favor of his rival, Doctor Robotnik.
@MusuemBucket I think in the case of the 2011 port it was because they made it a big deal to celebrate Sonic CD having both soundtracks unified together at last and went out of their way to default the Japanese ost in order to introduce it to the west who may have previously only experienced the American ost or not even knew about a Japanese version to begin with. (I know I was one of those people when I was confused with Metal Sonic's theme back in the launch of Generations.)

Stardust Speedway is the 6th Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog CD. It is best known as the place where Sonic the Hedgehog raced against Metal Sonic (whom he is an evil Badnik created from Dr. Robotnik and shown back from the Present 2nd Zone, Collision Chaos). Stardust Speedway is one of the fastest Zones in this timeline, a highway that is adorned with musical instruments above an enormous city; like its namesake implies, the city glows with undergoing construction in Zone 2, with girders and incomplete sections. This is the real moment where Sonic the Hedgehog has been waiting for thus far. He must shoot through a maze of valves and pipes in a world stardust and music, and face off against Metal Sonic in Act 03 - however, he must not go too fast, or else he might miss out on getting the Good Future here in this Zone!
@@billyseward4252 correct, but that's the difference between a normal eggman robot and a badnik: badniks are powered by small little animals while normal bots are not
@@subscribbl6567 What's weird is that in Sonic CD whenever you destroy a badnik a flower is planted instead of an animal escaping. Are the robots powered by plants?
Only in the Sonic CD game, the Badnik Robot Generator that you destroy are powered by plants. The Metal Sonic Holograms, however, are the ones that set animals free. It's a weird thing though, as I agree with you - Other Sonic games (such as One, Two, and 3 & K) have the animals turned into robots, but not this one.
This song makes more sense than the JP one imo. I literally feel like I'm cruising on the Interstate doing 70 mph at sunset. For those of us in the states, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Those who only like the Japan soundtrack of Sonic CD are missing the beauty that is the American soundtrack. Feel the beat. Feel the chillness. And oh my goodness gracious. My ears are melting from this beautiful track.
It's a masterwork. I think the reason so many people disregarded it after listening to the JP tracks is because the JP tracks have stronger melodies that people really remember. The good / bad future and past tracks are all also really overt in their differences from one another. I love the JP tracks but for my taste, they're too over-the-top to enjoy on their own out of the context of the game. The US tracks are much subtler in the way they differentiate between present, good, and bad. Sometimes it's more obvious with switching between major and minor key, but sometimes it's just adding one instrument or placing more emphasis on a thumping bassline. The biggest reason the US future tracks stand out to me, however, is that most of them deviate from the melody of the present versions. Stardust Future is a completely different track compared to its present version, but they both still definitely sound like Stardust Speedway.
I like how they preview both possible futures. First half is the good future with it's very starry night sounds. Second half sounds more tense like the bad future.
I'll explain why I prefer this over the JPN version: This song manages to create a starry atmosphere in a fast paced tempo! It's the enough upbeat and fast to fit a Sonic level with "Speedway" in its name! If you listen closely to the drums in each version, you'll notice the drums in this version are much faster than the drums in the JPN version, which makes this song fit both the "Stardust" AND "Speedway" parts of the level, it's also very calming and angelical and I love it! It also gives the feeling of running through the stars! It's PERFECT for Stardust Speedway! Please notice that the part where I explain which version is faster is a fun fact I wanted to spread to y'all! I know a bit of music so I put that to show you how much I know
I really do think that this track is underrated af because the JP/Pal version is a freaking masterpiece! Like, I love both but most of people just like the JP/pal one

Isn't it the other way around, really only the present does, good future and bad future and very fast paced tracks to suit up the Metal Sonic race and the whole zone gimmick to begin with.
Y'know, this this more chill than the JP version, and I like it in that respect, but I also like the JP version because it's a lot more upbeat and catchy. Each version is good in their own manner. This also applies to Collision Chaos.
I will say you can argue the same about Metallic Madness Present in both soundtracks. The US Version is more ambiguous and offers a peak at two possible futures. It is slow and dark. The JP Version, on the other hand, is definitely more intense. It hits hard just like the level itself. It lets you know you are in Eggman's Base and you will have to hit back even harder to stop him.
While this theme is enchanting and fits the 'Stardust' part perfectly, it didn't fit the level design enough. I imagine a lot more stars, darkness, a more vivid sky with a LOT of shooting stars and blueish colour shades when listening to it. The jp version didn't do a good job at capturing the 'Stardust' part, going only with the 'Speedway'. But at least it fits the level (tubas on the running track, colourful flashing lights and general bright colour pallete) After all, both versions aren't perfect in-game but awesome to be listened to on their own
personally i think the US version is much more generic and uninspired, but thats just my opinion. i see how people can prefer this one, what makes you prefer the US ost?
@@creatine420 I don't know. The JP soundtrack just never resonated with me. I don't hate it though, if the US soundtrack didn't exist, I'm sure I'd be happy with the JP version. But, if you held a gun up to my head, and told me to pick one, it would have to be the US version.
The good futures are literally the same song (most of the time) either slowed down and added some small things to make it sound different, it's way weaker than the US good future tracks as a whole simply because it's just a less-good version of the Present songs which are already great, only acception is probably Metallic Madness which was a great song
Iron Blaze While I enjoy the US soundtrack, I prefer the JP soundtrack. However, I can't make up my mind on which version of Stardust Speedway sounds the best.
Sonic's Mixtapes Hmm, interesting. I personally think the US soundtrack is way better or trumps the Japanese soundtrack in every way, minus a few which I think stand on their own as a well composed track, or just make me want to dance. For Stardust Speedway, I adore all the time zones way more than their Japanese counterpart--especially Stardust Speedway: Bad Future which I feel isn't really well composed neither does it fit the level nor make me dance. I'm not trying to be an American soundtrack purist here (even though I am from Canada), but I honestly don't see the appeal in that track and frankly find it overrated. That's just me and my opinion, though.
Iron Blaze I can see why people think Stardust Speedway Bad Future JP is overrated. There are so many versions of it. There's the Sonic CD ver, Sonic Generations ver, Sonic 4 ver, and Sonic Mania ver. There's probably another one I'm forgetting about. As much as I love the JP version, I wish that Sega/Sonic Team showed love to the US Bad Future too. It was remixed in Sonic Generations, and I don't remember if they remixed it any other game. Thankfully, Sonic Forces uses it. How do you feel about that version? Do you think it surpasses the original? Or do you think that it doesn't even compare to the original?
Sonic's Mixtapes Ooh, that's hard. Sonic Forces' music fits the boss battle aesthetic (I've seen leaks of the game including the Metal Sonic boss fight and final boss along with some cutscenes simply because I don't really care about the game), and in terms of getting you pumped, it does a great job. Although it doesn't really fit the whole "Eggman has taken over the world" sorta feel and that's where I believe Sonic CD thrives in as well as those electric guitars giving the track a heavy feel to it if that makes sense. It's also very atmospheric and fits the setting well which I love. I think both are equal, but I'd give the slightest edge to CD's version.
Iron Blaze I personally think the original is a bit better too. I have seen leaks of the Metal Sonic boss too. I personally didn't like what I saw. Here's another question: what's your opinion on forces?

Isn't it the other way around, really only the present does, good future and bad future and very fast paced tracks to suit up the Metal Sonic race and the whole zone gimmick to begin with.
Y'know, this this more chill than the JP version, and I like it in that respect, but I also like the JP version because it's a lot more upbeat and catchy. Each version is good in their own manner. This also applies to Collision Chaos.
And the jp version makes use of the trumpet looking parts of the speedway
I will say you can argue the same about Metallic Madness Present in both soundtracks. The US Version is more ambiguous and offers a peak at two possible futures. It is slow and dark. The JP Version, on the other hand, is definitely more intense. It hits hard just like the level itself. It lets you know you are in Eggman's Base and you will have to hit back even harder to stop him.
(1:06) Sonic: I'm outta here!
*Jumps out of the screen and game over title appears*
Fun is endless 😵 but luck is infinity power 😎😎😎
This is better than the JP version
Yes
NO
Really? I don't know why people still despising the two versions of Sonic CD, is not it better to enjoy both?
For me both are equally great
@@JLTruRodYT im agree with you
i'd take the entirely of US stardust speedway to JP. Same could be said for Quartz Quadrant and Tidal Tempest
But at least it fits the level (tubas on the running track, colourful flashing lights and general bright colour pallete)
After all, both versions aren't perfect in-game but awesome to be listened to on their own
It fits on the neighborhood part of stardust speedway.
Staring and glaring at stars.
While watching some weird hedgehog running faster than a jet.

True,
He's fucking rad!
My favorite part is 0:56 ! Sounds the Sonic OVA Movie instruments!
The 50 second mark is my favorite part cause you can hear the same singing in the bad future version
The US emphasizes "Stardust", while the JP emphasizes "Speedway"
I used to dislike this version of the song, but gee that middle part. It saves the song for me.
It's probably just my nostalgia, but I actually prefer the US soundtrack. It takes me right back to being a kid again
You're totally fine! Many who prefer the JP soundtrack like it because they're nostalgic for that one too.
This reminds me of the days when I played on the GameCube
JP: funky music
US: sideral space
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I prefer the US version of Sonic CD's soundtrack by a wide margin.
Nothing wrong with that, me too.
personally i think the US version is much more generic and uninspired, but thats just my opinion. i see how people can prefer this one, what makes you prefer the US ost?
@@creatine420 I don't know. The JP soundtrack just never resonated with me. I don't hate it though, if the US soundtrack didn't exist, I'm sure I'd be happy with the JP version. But, if you held a gun up to my head, and told me to pick one, it would have to be the US version.
The good futures are literally the same song (most of the time) either slowed down and added some small things to make it sound different, it's way weaker than the US good future tracks as a whole simply because it's just a less-good version of the Present songs which are already great, only acception is probably Metallic Madness which was a great song
"Horrible vocal samples", well explain Toot toot Sonic warrior and Cosmic Eternity.
Me gusta mucho más está versión de stardust Speedway 🥰
The hog is on a mission.
I like both Stardust Speedway themes (all US and JP themes for this level). They're all awesome.
I always thought this song would have fit better on an undersea atlantian type of level
THIS IS FROM A 1993 GAME.
Please acknowledge this.
That was Excellent, and I Love It a Lot. :-D
0:56 holy shit
Understatement.

Hey! I have a question: which soundtrack do you prefer or think is better: Japanese or US?
I feel like the present theme of the US is more for the scenery of the sky and lights, while the JP one focuses more on the city and highway
0:00 to 3:12 is the best part
Honestly this is why I always do SS in TA mode with the US OST
