Most people don’t realize maneuvering a fully (potentially over) loaded boat is 100% a different animal than driving it with you and your one friend going fishing. At the bare minimum they should be all behind the windshield if he wanted to have any hope of keeping that nose out the water , he also needed to max his trim up and throttle about 30% harder .
Credit card Captain at your service, and he's qualified to operate a boat. He has watched many TH-cam videos and took a 10-minute course online. So I’m a lake boater and curious what the right way to handle these kind of swells would be. Obviously everyone in the back and weighted evenly. Is it best to keep the boat right before it hits plane to keep the nose up or will it dive into the next wave if you do that? Should you approach at an angle or head on?
I just bought a older boat. I'm sticking to the lakes until I at least have clue. Even out there a lot of things can go wrong. Already had an engine quit in the middle of the lake right as a sudden lightning storm with high winds and torrential rain hit us. I watched my bilge pumps struggling to keep up with the amount of water coming in from the rain. Sold that boat and bought a 19' CC with a self bailing deck and put two new bilge pumps in it 1st and formost😂

So, I’m not a boater and am just curious. How do you avoid something like this happening? Keep the boat on the back of the wave and go slow? What if the waves are coming toward you? What then?
