He hasn't though has he. He's basically only gone to tourist parts of cities so you just see vendors. Doesn't represent general India at all. The heart of India is in it's villages, where 65% of the people live. You can only experience it if you travel at that level and he hasn't. So much of what India is about is the traditions, the domestic/family life, festivals etc and this will all be present in villages. He has not shown any of this in his videos.
Hello from Australia Davud! Oberoi Group is one of the leading hotel groups privately owned by an Indian family founded in the late 1930’s. A good friend who has Indian heritage introduced us to the hotel group some years ago and it is now a must wherever we travel in Asia and they have a hotel ! Hospitality is beautifully shown by the lovely lady who took you on a tour of the hotel! Namaste’
Yes, Tony. They're the best. They have had multiple international awards over the decades, and they are considered 'the best' in India despite larger Indian hotel groups existing. If you work in their properties... you can get placed anywhere in the entire globe - that's how high their standards are. They have their own hotel management program and it's highly regarded. P.S. They dared to shut down their New Delhi flagship hotel for a 'two-year' period for a US$ 85 Million renovation... and it still had no impact on their business continuity.
The lady guide was kind enough to offer her hospitality, I hope you enjoyed your stay in this hotel at Kolkata. Enjoy. I have always enjoyed visiting Kolkata.
Chitra at the hotel oberoi is a great ambassador for this site. She paid so much attention making eye contact. So knowledgeable about the hotel and its facilities. She was very eloquent. Unlike the bloke at reception desk, seemed pre occupied, 🙄. Staff are the most important investment in hospitality. Thanks Davuud 🎉😊
They’re just doing their job….what’s wrong with that….Chitra’s job is with the hospitality…..whilst the desk people are business…..they were friendly not rude…..❤️🇺🇸 Oberoi around the world is very nice hotel…..
Chitra seems to be trained well. Not many employees have such good product knowledge. The reception guy needs to learn how to respond and engage with a guest. When asked about the hotel he was very hesitant to say that it is indeed the best hotel irrespective of whether it is or not
@@vijoyabraham6328 well, 1 may think it as hesitant, some1 else may think it as polite and understated sophistication. who claims 1 is the best other than some brash cheap entity.
Davud bro one thing you must know that KOLKATA formerly known as Calcutta is the cultural capital of INDIA Calcutta produced immense no of Artistes Musicians Singers (both Indian classical and Modern Indian songs)Film makers, actors sculptur etc. try to meet someone Oberoi grand may help you.❤
Oberoi is a Luxury hotel chain that owns 35 luxury hotels in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius, Australia, and Hungary, the Oberoi group became India's second-largest hotel company, after the Taj group, which belongs to the Tata conglomerate. Mohan Singh Oberoi was born in modern-day Pakistan. As a young man, he had scandalized his Sikh family by shaving off his beard. In 1957, when he opened the Oberoi International in New Delhi, he brought in chambermaids with vacuum cleaners to replace the five or six male servants who usually served an Indian hotel room. In 1937, he took over Calcutta's once-elegant Grand Hotel, which had been closed for five years by fears of cholera in its water supply. Borrowing against his Simla property, he began a renovation program and eventually persuaded the first guest to move in, guaranteeing him soda water to drink and food cooked outside the hotel. The outbreak of World War II was a turning point in Mr. Oberoi's career. He prevented the British army from requisitioning the Grand by offering to reserve it for officers and feed them cheaply, though charging extra for women who spent the night.
I have been subscribed to the channel for almost a year and I am amazed by the diversity, where you shave on the street and then stay in a luxury hotel, this gives us a total immersion of the country you are visiting, thank you for providing us this fantastic experience. P.S. I saw in the video that the Zara sneakers are still usable, which proves that the man who repaired them did a good job.
The classic colonial style Grand experience with modern amenities. I used to visit in the 90s. Grand used to be the epitome of luxury in my childhood in 60s to 80s. Iconic and old traditional.
While it may not be the city's top hotel, it boasts a rich heritage, spanning over a century. During World War II, the hotel gained prominence as around 4000 soldiers were stationed there, engaging in regular festivities. Being in central Kolkata, you're close to Park Street, offering a delightful mix of both new and traditional restaurants. Don't miss the chance to explore Nahoum’s Bakery in the New Market, known for crafting special Christmas cakes.
Mr Davud I'm soo impressed with your videos related to the India tour, especially Assam, being an Assamese. The way you describe the scenario and situation along with the way you treat the normal people really impressed me.
According to my wife (she is Russian), Oberoi Grand in Calcutta is the best hotel in India. We stayed in Lila Chain of hotels, Sheraton, Maurya, Asoke Hotels and ITDC hotels over many years but nothing is comparable to this hotel.
0:55 that gesture is called salute , that's done to show honour and respect to someone very superior . Its not casual but a very formal and respectful way of greeting .
Grand Hotel ( currently owned by Oberoi) and The great eastern Hotel ( currently owned by Lalit) are the old historical hotel of Kolkata in same locality
Hacia mucho tiempo que no veía un hotel como los de antes clásico elegante acogedor y confortable esta puesto con muy buen gusto.un saludo desde Madrid.
you are so rightforth.. These days hotels are missing that Vibe of Classic Touch! But this hotel is faboulous.. Oberoi Hotel Group has finest services in India and Abroad, I persoanlly stayed at another Heritage property in Shimla India its called “The Oberoi Cecil” and boy that was so Awesome expereince of my lifetime
Oberoi Grand in Calcutta is the best hotel in India according to my wife as we stayed in almost all 5 star hotels in India ( in New Delhi, Agra, Calcutta, Kerala, Bombay etc)
The manager and other lady who was at front desk were both rude and prejudiced against Davud. You can see it in how they never made eye contact when speaking to him. They were hostile and should quit their HOSPITALITY job. On the other hand, Chitraleka (the lady who showed him around) was friendly and nice, and she deserves a promotion over those 2 jerks. She did her job well. Kudos to her!

Actually, there are no Indian foods, because each state and nation has its own cuisine. The Indian foods served overseas are mostly Mughal-influenced Tandoori and Curry dishes. The United Kingdom is often considered to have some of the best Indian food outside of India and 90% is run by Bangladeshi Sylheti origin(around ten thousand restaurants in the UK). India is ranked fifth on the global list of the best cuisines for 2022, according to Taste Atlas. The ranking is based on audience votes for ingredients, dishes, and beverages. Italy's food came in first place followed by Greece and Spain. West Bengal and Bangladesh have some of the best cuisine and the highest number of non-vegetarian people live in Bengal among the Indian states. Southern, Northern India, and Bengal have the best cuisines. Middle India is majority vegetarinians and some states' cuisines are terrible.

Hello Davud: nice video and a quick question: how did you manage a 10,000 rupee deal at the Oberoi? I assume this is recent? They are routinely charging 15,000 rupees + taxes or more at the moment. I am asking because I'm heading to Kolkata again (after 4 years) and would love to stay at the Oberoi Grand again, at around 10,000 rupees...
