The app integration is seamless and not invasive * which is exactly why it's such a fantastic in this game!

This was one of my most anticipated crowdfunding games from last year and when it finally arrived I was so impressed by it when it hit the table. The team at Arkada are releasing great updates to the app and ran an awesome campaign - awesome table presence, great co-op gameplay without having to memorize 100 rules and has a ton of potential for new missions via the app - can’t recommend this one enough. Great to see you guys loved it too!

I found it amazing!!! The guys (and gals) are super amazing at updating the app and communicating on discord. One time my kiddo just played with the ship by itself, putting all enemy turrets on the Spark (the ship) so it looked like a hedgehog. :D
We tried the Tabletop Simulator version, it was nice with one exception: players have no agency, you're only reacting to things and cannot plan ahead most of the time because the app doesn't show you anything which might happen. A wall of randomness which didn't go too well with us.

You know... apps are destroying gaming these days. If you go back in history to the first... blah blah blah... :)
I like the silly titles but I often get confused what the title of the actual game versus the video is
The format is always "(Name of Game) Review: (Goofy thing we come up with)." Hopefully that helps! And the thumbnail image usually shows the game name as well, but sometimes it's not that clear on the box.
I backed this...then cancelled it right before it ended. Pretty upset with myself now! lol

As a parent trying to regulate a child's screening time, these app-driven boardgames don't get played. If it's a choice between spending screen time on a boardgame app or on the TV, kid will pick the TV.
Fortunately we live in the golden age of board games where there are literally a dozen new great games that come out every week. The days of everyone being forced to play the same games are long over, so having to reckon with this game shouldn't affect you greatly. There are literally tens of thousands of games that don't require apps.
Then don't buy it?
@@VictorDiGiovanni If someone said "I would like this dungeon crawler if it used cards instead of dice" would it make sense to say "don't worry, three roll and writes, five trick taking games and a worker placement game came out this week too"?
People need to stop thinking it's app-driven games against everything else. Most people aren't interested in "everything else" they're interested in the game being discussed, just without that specific feature.
It's no different than any other comment on a game saying "I would like this game EXCEPT for this". Whether "this" is dice, cards, theme, player count, whatever.
My oldest chooses hybrids all the time.

If there were only two dungeon crawlers in the world, and neither one of them used cards, then complaining would make sense. But there are literally dozens if not hundreds of the exact same kind of game that use the standard way of playing (ie, non-app in this case). THIS singular game has chosen to use an app, and clearly people like it and say it isn't intrusive or problematic.
And your response wasn't even game-related. You didn't object to the way the app was implemented in the game, you objected to the very idea of apps in games.
But you are 100% correct in that it's the responsibility of parents to monitor and regulate their child's screen time and reliance on apps to enjoy things. But each child is different, so (as has been indicated in other comments) it's not remotely an issue for many children and parents who have actually played the game. The onus then falls on the concerned parent to simply find another (out of the hundreds available very similar to this one) that doesn't have the problematic elements.
I don’t mind Apps in board games, but in my opinion - this app brings almost nothing to the game. It doesn’t justify its presence in my experience.
The physical tracking of the alien ships is tedious.
The “events” in the game almost all center on prosperity cards.
The AI voice is super annoying and not immersive. Talking to her is even worse.
The cut-scenes are very well produced.
The gameplay itself is questionable. For a coop game, the simultaneous play is actually detrimental as it promotes groupthink and you can overanalyze every situation.
The help tokens are a cool idea but very limited
The prosperity cards are way too swingy
The aliens in the first two missions rarely show up with lasers, so build a generator and you barely need to defend. Also, building lasers seems a bit pointless.
The app doesn’t really do much bookkeeping, as you have to replicate almost all its statuses physically. Big miss in my opinion
There’s simply not that much to do in the game. There’s not that much to build on the ship.
The randomness in this game is insane. In both missions I’ve played a random chunk of my ship just blew up at a certain point. We still one easily, but what a cheap shot.
Overall, I was really underwhelmed with the design of the game. Accessible, sure. But not particularly innovative or exciting in my opinion.
For the price of the game, you are rude 😂
App-driven ? Not for me. If I want digital, I've got my video games.
An app does not make a board game a video game. Stop being weird.
@@MikeDV34 No and I never said it did. I said that if I want something digital, I have video games that do everything better in that regard. Also, keep your name calling to yourself. Whoever doesn't align with your views and/or opinions isn't "weird". We'll talk again in a few years when you change your phone/tablet to a new one that is not supported and the company is either out of business, lost the rights to the game if it's got an IP on it, or just straight up moved on because the game didn't sell well or whatever. Lastly, before you go "lol I don't expect games to last forever", then I suppose you don't wanna play Dominion, Castles of Burgundy, Agricola or other amazing classics anymore since they are old. Having said all that, If you like app-driven games, then suit yourself. I didn't call the game garbage, I said it's not for me.
Why does every app driven game have people like you informing us that app games aren't for you? No one cares. I don't post comments in every competitive euro game complaining that it has a boring theme with little table talk and minimal player interaction, I just accept that the game isn't for me and move on with my life. This game looks great!
@@peterguthrie7413 Generally, I agree with you and 9 times out of 10 I don't comment when something doesn't interest me. The thing is, companies put a LOT of PR weight on TH-camrs like the Dice Tower, which means that they read the comments on the videos as a casual way to gauge interest. That's why I will comment on games like this to show that there are people that don't like this (bad) modernization of board games. Having said that, I am fully in support of optional apps that enhance the game but you can skip them if you want. Lastly, one other reason I do this is that, if even one person reads this and thinks "Oh right, I didn't think/know that my game will be useless in a few years, thanks for saving me money" then I will be happy. If someone knows this and doesn't care, then by all means, enjoy !
