I love the energy of both of you in all your videos! Currently enjoying this game with my SO, your comment about who you can enjoy the game with is pretty accurate. 2 second talk before the round, the total silence for the rest of the game until you can finally high five each other.
An honorary Academy Award for Excellence in Film Editing to the editor of the “You crash and lose” sequence. Went on far longer than I expected. Tension ramping up each time. And I just kept laughing harder.
As an avid board gamer, an aviation geek, and a Toronto paramedic who was one of the first ambulances on scene at the crash of Air France Flight 358 in 2005, this game is right up my alley! (I tried it last week on BGA and loved it!)
Excellent, tightly delivered, and fun. Nice job. I appreciate a lot of the little details in your review: your color-coding (that still remains casual), the die drop, the fixing of the die that dropped because it wasn't in it's spot, and there were a couple more. I get the sense that you guys appreciate these little details, and more: that different ones are coming from each of you. And "your face is a failed die" (or w/e you said) is exactly what my wife would say to me. EXACTLY.
This game looked amazing in other vids. I was very interested in getting it, but I don't think I'll get anyone to play it with me. I'm looking forward to watching your take on it. Well, even if I weren't interested at all in the game, I always look forward to seeing how the two of you (and the pup) cover a game. ETA: 3 minutes in, and I have stress-hiccups, too.
Okay, i laughed in many moments during this review, but the one that sent me the most was 2:58, when after all of Efka's abuse towards the little airplane, it appeares covered in bandages :(. Great review, game looks great
Holy shit I loved this review. Really entertaining, gave me lots of chuckles. And then that segway into the criticisms made me release a really loud, hearty laugh. I'm so happy I stumbled across your channel lmao
Excellently written and presented review!!! This game seems cool, like a dice trick-taking drama with the tricks being your airplane settings. I feel like my partner and I dont have much experience with trick taking but this seems like a really unique time!!! Lovely work as always cheers
My wife is a former flight instructor and regional commercial pilot. Her father is a recently retired captain for international flights. She definitely has QUESTIONS about this game, and the non-communication bit is a big one. Awkwaaaaard. That said, I loved this review, I still really really wanna play, and I laughed myself silly every single time you two said "Shoot down another plane."
According to the dev team, the non verbal communication is to 1) make the game faster and more fun and 2) when flying a real plane you don't vocalize how you're going to land a plane with a copilot for every little every thing - you react on instinct and training and it's much faster than it would be in a board game if you were allowed to chat the whole time. The game was made by a flight instructor and has been playtested by lots and lots of pilots :)
@@TheOneTAR The no-talking thing is called "sterile cockpit." It's a real rule during take-off and landing. The flight crew does communicate is simple technical phrases at critical points, however. The "Shoot down a plane" thing appears to roughly emulate air-traffic control vectoring around congested airspace.
@@weatherupstairs4814Sterile cockpit only means no disruptions from cabin crew or no chit chat about non-work stuff :) but I'm sure Agricola isn't exactly how real farmers live and work either 😅
@@nchlsrdmr Um, yeah... I was simplifying, which is what I thought I said when I said, "The flight crew does communicate in simple technical phrases..." Such as 80 knots, v1, rotate, gear up, flaps 5 etc. ... I am sure that Agricola does not involve those phrases.😉
+1 on everything said. My wife and I demoed it at Gencon and basically crushed it and laughed at other people screwing up and asked questions. Close to everyone else losing we cleaned up our winning game and thanked the team. Really fun, but limited yo who I would play it with for sure
30 seconds in and I am already pausing to give you my thumbs up. Seriously, if you are watching No Pun Included and NOT thumbing up every one of their episodes... what is wrong with you? They are awesome. They are great. They are amazing.
What a brilliant video - how inventive and amusing! But also highly informative - well done! The game looks very interesting for me and my wife, which is what you are suggesting. Many thanks!
Top notch vid guys! 'Your face is a problem die' was brutal - never wanted to hug the big lad more than after that. Not sure those little cardboard cockpits are built for long term play?? But defn looks different enough that I'd invest in it. Cheers.
Sky Team is an outstanding experience! It's also nice to see more wooden components being used in board games (again), but considering the fragile nature of tiny pieces, dear publishers, please, be prepared to provide or sell spares! One of my airplane tokens arrived broken, the publisher doesn't sell any replacement parts, so I had to recreate and 3D-print it myself.
We just got this game and played 6 times this past weekend. Once you play a couple and get your head around how to signal with the dice, it's pretty fun! We definitely cheated a bit the first few games as we were trying to understand different aspects and placed a die incorrectly or something. Then we started trying to play it straight and moved up to some of the harder scenarios. Had a great time and looking forward to playing some more!
I really appreciate what you two have done in talking about Sky Team...the FAA in the U.S. would have my friend and I arrested for the hundreds of people we've killed and the millions of dollars in aircraft we've lost to bad piloting. It's a great game and I can certainly see this one coming out often in the months and years ahead!
I disagree about not playing this game with randoms. I play this on BGA frequently, some rounds are better than others. It just means you have to talk more in between rounds about goals. I recently played a game with a person from Portugal and we had one of the most amazing rounds I have ever played.
When Before you Play did their video on sky team, every time Monique said you immediately lose made me want the game more. This video had the same effect.
curious - does the game actually stipulate that it's a 'shoot down' enemy planes? or is it meant to be a thematic for having air traffic control clear the field ahead of you (aka LAND those planes) in time for your own landing? Either way it's hilarious that you describe it this way. :) ...YOW BTW....seems you have many Canucks watching
What? How did you film the switchover where the die still falls down? Was it dropped from above the image and just spliced together so it looks like it fell from your hand?
What do you mean, switchover? Elaine disappeared but her die didn't, so it fell down. (didn't even have to drop it from above. Elaine just held her hand after the cut and dropped it and we used a simple crop)
You are not allowed to talk. The rulebook explicitly states that you can discuss general strategy before you start placing dice (without discussing the faces you rolled), but one placement starts (quoting the rulebook now): "From this moment on, both players must be completely silent until the end of the round, except for correcting possible rule errors."
The important question that seems to have not been addressed with this game review, is how did you rate the in-flight service by your little dog? (apologies I cannot remember name) ;)
Not specifically about Sky Team, but please indulge my musings... I have this concern when dice games introduce reroll/pip adjustment mechanisms. It makes me think the rest of the mechanics are not sufficient to mitigate/provide enough fun in losing when you have an unlucky game. Don't get me wrong, it's tough to continually have bad rolls and suffer because of it, but it is all too often a crutch to overcome shortcomings in other areas that the design should cover.
Why cant you talk to each other? Feels like a clone of that other dice game where you try to land on the moon.. But at least in that one, the ability to not talk to each other made sense thematically. The copilot literally sits 2 ft from the pilot. :P
@@NoPunIncluded Nono it makes me happy to have another great game, it's just that nowdays space is a scarce resource.... Gotta upscale to a bigger home ahaha
Strange theme choice for such a ruleset... no communication allowed between a pilot and a copilot less than 1 meter apart in real life? wth... +no communication board games are generally a no go around here: we play board games to have a good time together, talk etc... To each his/her own I guess!

Worth it.

Arrrggg, the table, mind the sodding table!!!
We bought the game today and played the first mission. Unexpectedly, we didn't crash and loose.😮
I can't lose this game. I've been watching Mentour Pilot so many times - I know exactly where the TOGA button is.
Amazing video, amazing game, amazing people! This game earned every ounce of the hype that it got at Gen Con.
Love your content! ❤
What if there are snakes on the plane?
This game is amazing, my daughter and I have almost won all of the scenarios, just a few red and black ones to go.
Definitely my favorite video on Sky Team! :-D

When I explain this game I usually say "The pilots died and two replacements have been randomly choosen among the public"
...the pilot and the co-pilot absolutely can talk to one and other?!
You are not allowed to talk. The rulebook explicitly states that you can discuss general strategy before you start placing dice (without discussing the faces you rolled), but one placement starts (quoting the rulebook now):
