The Mongols invaded three times, didn't learn anything from their failures and kept attacking with the same strategy and thus got the same result. Vietnamese withdrew before the strong Mongol armies, leaving no food or supplies behind. There're only two supply routes: 1. by land over the high mountain ranges between Vietnam and China; 2. by sea then up the Red River. The Vietnamese used guerrilla tactics and destroyed the land route supply troops. The supply ships were defeated by the Vietnamese navy. These were traditional naval battles fought bravely on both sides, but Vietnamese have an edge from local knowledge of the rivers and daily tides. The wars were won because the Vietnamese were unified. Without local help, the Mongol armies disintegrated when they run out of food. The Vietnamese were weaker but were unified and had better organization and strategy.
After the third failed invasion, the Mongol king sent a letter and blamed Dai Viet. You said you submitted to the Celestial Dynasty, but for 15 years, you refused time and time again, never once coming to see me. The terms have not been implemented yet. They were called tributes, but they were all useless. Vietnamese history records that every time the Mongols demanded tribute, they demanded war elephants and elephant warriors. But the Tran dynasty always refused because they knew that the Mongols wanted war elephants to study how to fight. War elephants were very fierce and could restrain cavalry and act as shields to block Mongol arrows. The northern soldiers had never seen war elephants in battle. They fought very fiercely and were huge. When they roared, both soldiers and horses were afraid. In 1272, the Tran king answered directly. The envoy came to talk about demanding war elephants. Previously, because he was afraid of going against the imperial edict, he did not dare to speak directly. In fact, the elephants refused to leave their homes. As for the doctor, he was very angry. , the scholars also did not listen to the invitation so they did not go.
Mongols were defeated by Japanese, Veitnsmese, Egyptians and Dehli Sultanat decissively. Many people always say they were defeated due to hot weather, but the fact remains, Mongols always attacked whdn the weather suited them, their attacks were always in winter and there was no point of weather behind theur dedeats at any of these places. Mongols were world conquerers so they planned well and factored in bad weathers wherever they attacked. So whether it was Japan or any other place their truiph or defeat was due to superior numbers and superior battle tactics. Weather was a secondary factor in all these defeats.

Historical records said that the Mongol's retreat because of the tropical heat and diseases. Firstly, the records are mostly from Chinese historians, and they sometimes use the same character for "heat" and "being sick". Added to that, Vietnam is more dangerous in colder months, the time when amphibians hibernate. This would lead to increase in activity of disease carriers like mosquitoes. Moreover, Vietnamese troops did not fight clean. Most of the weapons they used have rust, animal blood, snake venoms, frog toxin, and poop. Because those weapons are mostly modified farming tools. Mongol lost the battle for many reasons, and the most important was not about Viet Nam people but because of it's Geography Problem. First : supplier, this was the same problem that make Mongol lose the war 2 time. They occupied Viet Nam capital, but had to retreat cuz they didn't have enough food to keep on fighting. Second : Mongol strongest Army, the Mongol Calvary couldn't deploy here. Calvary was a burden if the warzone's Amazon :))). Finally : The strategy, Viet Nam knew the cons and pros so they avoid fighting face to face but exhaust the Mongol first...
The mongolian emperor Kublai ordered that the mongolian territory should reach the southernmost end of the world but was stopped in Vietnam and could not advance any further.
We have to put this in account, not sure the year or date of this invasion by Mongols, Vietnam was one or the first Asian Nation to receive GUNS from the Dutch and why Vietnam was very successful of defending their homeland of those times. Vietnam was POWERFUL due to them having small arms and even the use of cannons. This has been left out on how the Dutch heavily influenced the Viets of defending their homeland, also played a part when Japan and their samurais tried to invade.
I love the Dutch. They are the nicest of the Europeans. That episode of that Dutch guy in Samurai Champloo hanging out with Mugen, Jin, and Fuu is exactly how I see them lol
True but when in the time of the Mongols invasion we do not have gun or canon yet. The Tran's Army first recorded use of handcannon is about 90-100 years later. In the time of the Khmer emprise invasion. Some historian said that the first guns of the Vietnamese came from the Song's firelance. But other opinion said it from the European's merchants.
Apologies for the confusion, but it’s a combo of foot soldiers and horsemen, though it leans more toward the foot troops this time because of the rugged terrain in Vietnam.
In fact, the Vietnamese deliberately withdrew and took their supplies with them, waiting for the Mongol army to run out of food and weaken due to hunger and the climate. Once the Mongols were weakened and depleted of supplies, their forces were significantly diminished, inevitably forcing them to retreat.

So do you know that before that, Champa entered the Vietnamese capital of Thang Long and plundered it completely? Not just once. During Champa's history, how many times did they attack Dai Viet? The Vietnamese used peaceful means to live together, and even once brought a princess to be the wife of the Champa people (Princess Huyen Tran). Well don Vietnam ,India also did the same a few years after this Mongols dont like castles
This video will definitely inspire a lot of people making videos. Great content and very tasteful editing!
Glad you think so!
Cứ lúc nào khó khăn đất nước Việt Nam lại sinh ra nhiều nhân tài kiệt xuất
@@mattparke4370 Fascinating country around the 16th centuries of being one of the first explorers of the seas, along with Portugal.

Can you let us know what’s not correct? We’re always eager to learn more. Thanks for your comment.
“Composed of infantry” (shows cavalry)
Apologies for the confusion, but it’s a combo of foot soldiers and horsemen, though it leans more toward the foot troops this time because of the rugged terrain in Vietnam.
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks
How true is this?

In fact, the Vietnamese deliberately withdrew and took their supplies with them, waiting for the Mongol army to run out of food and weaken due to hunger and the climate. Once the Mongols were weakened and depleted of supplies, their forces were significantly diminished, inevitably forcing them to retreat.
You know you are far from being right, right?😂. So you said food defeats the Mongols three times they attempted to invade Vietnam. Learn history where history created, my advise to you 😂😂😂
Climate was not a factor since they invaded in the winter months. Northern Vietnam is cold up until early April.
@@didierduplantier8359 Once April arrives in the north, things start to melt. Vietnam is hotter than India and Arizona. I brought cookies to my grandma and it all melted on the car ride to her house from the airport. Cookies and chocolate to liquid. Bows and glues that hold it together also melted.
@@Frankd22003 It is true that the Vietnamese deliberately retreated to exhaust the Mongols' food supplies while prolonging the conflict until the hot season. By then, the Mongols were significantly weakened, having lost their initial advantages. At that moment, the Vietnamese launched their counterattack.
Crushed... is this the only word that you can use to describe victories? Russia crushed Bulgaria, Indonesia crushes the Mongols, Vietnam crushed the Mongols, Hungary crushed the Mongols, Poland crushed the Mongols.... how about defeated or destroyed, obliterated, etc. English is a very expressive language. Use it.
Appreciate your comment
😂why you got a problem with the way he speaks?
@@waywardsoul4918 With the way he writes... sounds cheesy as hell.
Nực cười.. Bạn chẳng biết cái quái gì
VN is jungle, mountain, water, swamp water warfare..so Mongols cannot handle that kind warfares together.
Indeed
not really true because the last battle was a navy battle and they got destroy before they even reach land. Also THe mongo invaded southern and cental Vietnam which was Champa and the weather in southern vietnam is tropical while the north is similar to southern china which they did invade.
In war 90% of the victory is tactic and how to use the geogrpahy for your tactic.

Long time no see
some people dont like to be pushed around or fooled .. the Vietnamese are clearly made of different wood ..
Vietnamese are like Scottish. Only difference is Viets never accepted becoming vassals of China while Scotland gave up and became UK

It’s truly inspiring to hear you express such deep pride and love for your country!
Dai Viet. Đại Việt. D, pronouncing like a D in English.
Champa nation also defeated Mongolia. And guess where that country is now? Yes, it was mercilessly destroyed by Dai Viet
Please study carefully to see that Vietnam only does everything to defend itself and survive. And everything is the price of those who attacked Vietnam.
Mạnh được yếu thua , có ai mà đi cống nạp cứt voi cho Đại Việt không đánh cũng uổn, còn những lần champa vào quấy phá thủ đô Thăng Long thì ko nhắc

The Monguls did not do well once they got out of their traditional terrain. They were pushed out of Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia...and eventually Hungary.

So there were only a few hundred thousand American Indians in America when there were 4.5 million Vietnamese in Vietnam 800 years ago?
It may seem hard to believe, but that was the fact
@ Some sources say there were millions, not a few hundred thousand.
Estimated 8 millions to 18 millions native Americans Indian during the Mongols invading Dai Viet
Thank you for the thoughtful comment! We apologize for the confusion earlier.

Love how AI made this
This video wasn't made by AI. AI might help with some things, but the heart and soul of this one? All human, my friend. Thanks for watching!
@ you’re a bot 🤖
If they invaded with just infantry, why do you show them as all mongol cavalry? Also, it seems the majority of the invaders were not Mongol horse archers. And I’ve been to Vietnam in “winter” it’s still oppressively hot especially for heavily armored troops and horses use to cold climates. It takes a long time to adjust to SEA ruthless heat.
We’ll make sure to adjust the representation in future videos to reflect that more accurately.
You must be coming to the South of Vietnam. Winter is only cold in the North of Vietnam and the Mongol invasion took place in the North of Vietnam.
Ai bảo bạn mùa đông miền bắc nóng? Bạn đã đến đâu?
@@HuyPham-jm3tv winter is not "cold" in North Vietnam unless you're in the mountain. What kind of distortion are you trying to create. The coldest it gets is 70F at night, maybe 60F on a cold day. Thats summer in San Francisco california.

Thanks
The Vietnamese had twice as many? Fighting in dense jungle too. Mongols had no change on horseback
Exactly!
Vietnam - the only place on earth have Art of War that worked everytime 🥴

no one would be able to defeat a concerted mongol invasion... its lesser armed divisions have been defeated by many
No Riz, you are wrong. As soon as the Mongols entered Vietnam and they heard the song "Mua Tren Pho Hue", their bows and arrows started melting
Aladdin in kingdom of heaven said it all, how battles are fought, it is you are unprepared, VN was not regard as a important objective to any big empire, and in the old time, rainforest is regarded as forbidden places for any army, the landscape and weather has always save VN, i dont mean the people are not brave, but you have terrian and weather advantages dont forget that. Us-VN war
they won cuz that thang long
The French actually succeeded cause they colonize the indochina
You say the invading Mongolia force was entirely infantry but the show footage of cavalry for several seconds… you do know the difference between cavalry and infantry, right… that’s when I stopped watching your amateur channel and told TH-cam to not recommend your channel! 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
