Most likely scenario, option order R211As are going on the B and D trains, since the B is based of CNY it could be a possibility that a few R211s COULD end up on Broadway, while the the G is going to be a mix of R211Ts and R160s.

Now the CBTC installation between 59th and Lefferts I believe is a better attempt because having it above 59th on Central Park West is too soon in my opinion. It would have forced Concourse, Coney Island, 207, Pitkin and, Rockaway Yards to forfit their R46s, R68s and R68As sooner than anticipated. And knowing my Uncle who worked at Concourse as a TO, Concourse does not like giving up their equipment to anyone else. I did some calculations of these trains, there will be 1,535 R211 cars (all orders), while there are 754 R46 cars (942 cars if they were 60 feet) so the R46 will officially retire in 2027. There are 625 R68/68As (approximately 780 if 60 feet). There will be around 595 R211 cars left that might replace the R68/68A cars. When some of the R68 fleets get retired, there will be around 185-190 R68 cars remaining until it gets replaced by the future R268 cars (with 355 car orders). Which means that the R268 might even replace the R143, which will be an aging train in the future. (So basically, the MTA will retire more than 2/3 of the 68s for the R211)

The R211 has not even been here 2 full years yet anything can malfunction with those things like what happened to the R179. If they’re smart they keep the R46 and R68/As around to at least 2030

We are still experiencing the shortage fleet and i dont even think the MTA is going to solve the shortage issue, although I think they are going to run more trains (211s) because of cbtc. For the retirement of the 46s and the 68s, imo the r46 should've been retired already before, these trains ride very harsh, they experience 6 times more breakdown than other newer trains, they are basically on its last leg. As for the r68s retiring, im honestly mixed about it, i honestly think that its kinda a waste of money for retiring the r68s early for some new rolling stock, but then again, if they kept all the r68s for another decade, its probably going to end up like the 46s. The future orders of the 211s aren't going to be crazy lemon like the 179s and the quality and reliability might improve over current 211s

@@r62aguy85 When it comes to MTA, they either retire fleets earlier (R27/R30) or much later. A good example of fleets being kept longer are the R32s like you mentioned, these trains were quite known to break down less (even when it was retiring in 2022) unlike the R46, where i personally experience those trains breaking down, which ended up making the train operator bringing a newer train for us straight from the yard (people were definitely not happy for these delays). In my opinion, it was definitely a good thing that the R44 and R40 retired in 2010 due to major issues like cracks and rust on the train. They could've made more R179 around the early 2020s if it kept all the 32s/42s, but then, good timing they didnt because of covid. I believe if the train turns 50 years old, its a good time for them to retire

That’s incorrect the R268 are not retiring any of the R143. They are only retiring the remaining of the R68/A that R211 didn’t retired.
