@Fyreflye's Follies: This is my 2nd day of viewing your videos... I am 67 and have been canning and helping others can since I was 5 or 6 years old and I learned something new today and that is a good thing!!! I am so glad I found your channel 09/17/2020
I am so glad you are enjoying the videos!! I am always unsure if it is something that anyone is interested in seeing, so hearing that you are enjoying them is so wonderful!!
I watched many videos on canning pork and beans and chose your recipe. I agree when using honey instead of molasses when canning pork and beans. Thank you. This recipe sounds so simple. Now, I do soak the beans for 24 hours and pre-boil before canning. Actually, I have done it both ways.
I searched TH-cam for a pork and bean video and found this one. Thanks, I really liked it and will subscribe! I especially liked your little tips, like about the honey instead of molasses.
And...after leaving my last comment, I got busy and p-canned 7 more quarts of your Beanie Weenie recipe! I can't thank you enough. The taste brings back my childhood memories and I can't WAIT to share a few jars with children in our extended family. 5 stars all the way!!!
I canned the recipes you have for the pork and beans and the beenie weenies. They both turned out great. I will definitely have to can these again soon.
Your recipe is the very best for the right flavors. Especially the Beanie Weenie recipe. I do whisk the bit of mustard with a fork in part of the water to thin it out before adding to sauce. I have canned pints and quarts of both. Thank you, we're both very appreciative of you. Yummy.
How cool, Not to say anything negative but I don't have the confidence in canning but I'm so intrigued and now I'm looking to study the art of canning. Thanks so much for giving me the push I need and the understanding that it's important to be clean and thorough. I enjoyed watching your video. Who knows? I may become the canning king! Thanks so much.😊
Thank you for showing how to do this. I am new to canning. I am trying to teach myself as I don't have anyone to show me how. You explained this very well. New subscriber.
Just made the sauce and used some over just a drained can of great northern beans and let simmer awhile and then just rest no pork to add but DELISHOUS the rest and over a mix of dry beans an into the canner
I am canning 16 half pints right now. I have made a few minor changes. I put less sugar and fried some sliced bacon. I am expecting this recipe to be a keeper. I just tried these out of the canner and they are very good. Taste better than Heinz.
I’m definitely doing this. I was just wondering if I could do pork and beans after canning some fantastic chili beans. I’m never buying those again, lol. Mine were way better, even my 70+ yo mom agreed. Thank you so much!
Ty ty! Love this recipe, so easy and looks delicious! You always explain everything so well! I'm wondering if anyone has had the Ranch Style Brand Beans? Looking for a similar recipe to that. It's basically pork and beans but not sweet at all and omg so good! Thanks for the great vids!
This is the recipe that I have, but I haven't tried it yet. It is on my list of thing to try, but I have not gotten to it yet. I would start with just under 1 cup dry unsoaked beans per quart, because I prefer the no-soak method for my beans - I feel like they hold their texture a little better. I would also can mine in pints or half pints, because it is just me, and adjust peppers to my personal liking... Pints process 75 minutes, quarts 90 minutes. This is PER QUART according to the recipe. • 1 1/2 cups soaked Pinto Beans • 1/8 cup onion • 1/4 cup tomato • 1 clove garlic • 1 tsp chopped jalapenos • 1 tsp chopped green chiles • 1/8 cup chopped green pepper • 1/4 tsp cinnamon • 1 tsp honey • 1 tsp canning salt • 1/4 tsp black pepper Add beans to jar. layer in remaining ingredients. fill with boiling water to 1" headspace. Process 90 minutes (QUARTS)
The recipe tastes great!! Im in process of making the sauce and jarring up! Only suggestion is a lil bit more mustard and your recipe indicates that it is for 8 pints. Your video shows 8 half pints. That thru me off a bit. The posted recipe is not for 8 pints. Im working on 2nd batch of sauce! Thank you for a yummy recipe to try. My hubby is picky and i hope this is the recipe that will be our go too for pork and beans!!
I am so sorry!! I am correcting the recipe now! I am always cutting my recipes down to small batch can, but I try to make sure I convert them back in the description. I am glad that you like the recipe!!
If i didnt want to do the no soak method would i still water down the sauce?I was thinking about quick soak method them . I would appreciate anyone responding. As i have not seen anything more from our video hostess. I do hope she is well.
I don't use a thermometer for cooking - I grew up in a "by guess and by gosh" kitchen - so we simmer or we boil, but rarely every measure actual temperature.
I would just can them without sweetener and add some in when you open the jar. I have heard that artificial sweeteners can turn foods bitter in canning them.
I really want to try this but I’m a little confused about the meat. Are you using bacon or hotdogs? I love the idea of using 1/2 pints too! I’m trying to do more single serving jars this year to grab for lunch and these look amazing!
I used salt pork slices in these. If I do not have salt pork, I use thick sliced bacon. I use the same base recipe for beans and franks, but use either hot dogs or little smokies for the franks.
even though I have canned for year's when I want to watch just to relax I love your channel 💖 you are an amazing teacher for anyone new to canning I have sent them your videos..I truly hope you post many videos..Utube needs you.. Blessings
@@carolynmoody9460 Thank you so much!! You have no idea how much that means to me. I am not one to be on camera, but I was missing my Granny and thinking how great it would be to have videos to watch of her canning. I’m not sure why you refer a pint to a half pint. A pint jar is called a pint jar. A half pint is half the size of a pint which a lot of people use for jelly jars. ❤
Wow! 2 years has passed already. I'm out of all my beans from your recipes. Time to stock up while weather is still cool. Loved them!🥰

We discovered by leaving out the liquid smoke our beans get the van camps taste, definitely honey over molasses.
Good to know. next time I will try without the smoke.
Thanks for saying that. I was going to try to find a substitute for the liquid smoke. I'm allergic to it. I will just leave it out.
Will have to try this!

I am going to try doubling this recipe. What do you think? Will it work?
yes it will. You can double or triple or more...
Ok, figured it out. I commented on Beans & Franks. Wonder why my subscribing to that wouldn't have me here too as subscribed?
Do you rinse off the salt pork?
May I know how long I can keep them in the fridge please?
is there something other than salt pork that you can use?

Does this way of canning beans eliminates possibly if gas? I usually soak and drain the water and wash beans again. Thanks for this easy recipe,,!!
@@marlenebennett6148 no, depends a lot on the freshness of the bean
Amazing video. May I ask.
How long till it spoil?
Also could you do it without the pressure cooker?
you must use a pressure cooker.
Pressure canner is different than pressure cooker @@daveb-d4t
I have a question..I have tomato juice that I canned. Can I use that instead of buying sauce and watering it down? I have juice canned in quarts.

Can I make this in half pints? Great video.
Yes you can! half pints and pints process at pint times. I love having the half pint servings available!!
@@FyreflyesFollies I went for it. The boyfriend loves the beanie weenies. I used molasses instead of honey. Thanks for everything.

They are!
I can only water bath can at this time. What do you think the processing time should be?
cant be water bath only pressure can
I, too need a bigger kitchen. It is difficult to can more than one thing at a time.
Would you have to add the brown sugar or molasses? My hubby is diabetic and I need to make some sugar free.
I would just can them without sweetener and add some in when you open the jar. I have heard that artificial sweeteners can turn foods bitter in canning them.
Crazy as this may sound but I’m in Canada and we don’t have beanie weenies . Am I correct in assuming that you just add some wieners sliced? How much?
If you were to water bath this recipe, how long would you do so, according to your kitchen rules? ;-)
double the time for pressure canning, as a rule of thumb.
@@FyreflyesFollies Thank you! :-)
only pressure can!!!!
@@sharonpayne8187 I don't pressure can anything, Ma'am, but thank you for your concern.
Besides money invested in jars rings lids what is the price of 1 jar canned vrs store bought
canned store bought has some suspect ingredients. this way, you know what you are putting on your table. worth of that? priceless.
Have you joined canning rebels? It’s awesome!!!
Yes, I am in canning rebels and rebel canners. They are both great!
I love that group they are awesome
What is your tomato sauce recipe? Do you water bath process it or pressure can it?
I simply stew my tomatoes and blend them, then water bath. If you don't have homemade, you can use store-bought tomato sauce.
why do you top off with simmering/hot water 🤔 couldn't you just top off with more sauce
You can, but the end result will be "heavy" without the extra water for the dry beans to absorb.
