Farmers work is never done. My husband and i spend half hour after lunch and just sit and relax, i have a hammock that I spent my time in. My favorite time is walking the dog at 5am in the morning and just listen to all the birds singing. Have a great weekend
I came for your pork and bean recipe. Can't wait to try it. On another note...I dehydrate blueberries and you probably already know this by now... I use a metal hair pick to stab several berries at a time. They sell them on Amazon and they save a ton of time.
While you were lying in the garden I remembered once years ago when I lived in Phoenix AZ I’d planted a few rows of pinto beans. And just as the sun was hitting the soil they started to pop out of the ground. And I do mean pop! I lay down in the dirt and watched those beans pop up and each time it made me laugh.😂
I find when I have too many thoughts running through my head to be able to relax, that writing them down is very helpful. It's not really the pressure to get things done that causes me to be unable to relax, but the pressure to remember things. So thoughts are just going in a circuit in my head, but if I write them down, then I know I don't have to remember them anymore. But I don't treat it like a to-do list, it's just a list that's there if and when I need it, not a list of things that need me.
As farmers we too believe that you need to take time for self care. Tons of jobs everywhere! We picnic at a quiet beach ten minutes from our farm, maybe swim, maybe not. Then back at it!
I agree about taking time for family. You need to enjoy the children while you can. Those are the future memories you will have. It’s not the number of jars or pounds of produce processed. The family will want to return home after the are Adults because you made a special effort for them. My family told us this, and appreciate the hard work on our farm but the experiences are good memories. ♥️
Just absorbing your surroundings with a still mind is so important. To lay there and just breathe is amazing. During winter you will all be so grateful. The memories you are building will be what gets you through. ❤
That was, as usual, a great video. I got my 7 quarts of beautiful garbanzo beans canned today. Now I really want to get some pork and beans going. We ate pork and bean sandwiches (on my mom’s homemade white bread) when we were kids. I loved them so much. I haven’t thought about them for a very long time. (Also I’m remembering her leaf lettuce and miracle whip sandwiches. ❤️) Thank you for sharing - laying down in the grass and communing with nature sounds like the right thing to do. I was there with you in spirit. 🐝
Wow… I didn’t think you had a slow button🤣so nice to see you just..stop.. and take a breath.. and enjoy the moment.. 💜your childhood story of making a bed out of the insulation ..oh my goodness how horrible!! So glad Honey is better👏👏💜💜💜
When we lived in Saskatchewan we had a huge crabapple and it made the best and clearest canned apple juice using cream of tartar overnight on the apples. The resulting liquid was clear amber.
It must be 'in the air' . I have heard from many people that they are 'taking a break- regroup-just let it all go!' and I agree!! BEAUTIFUL and thank you for sharing~~
as a nurse we use a retractable cord to put keys on... that would be an excellent use for your scissors the they would be connected to the cord and you!
Have you ever eaten blueberry dumplings? "Delicious way to can blueberries'" I have wonderful childhood memories of my Mère making this every blueberry season. I'm sure your children would love it!
Fabulous video!! I love working hard to raise and preserve my own foods, and yet I am trying to spend intentional uninterrupted time with my loving husband amidst all of the business.
I think everyone must have a similar insulation story from their childhood 😂. When I was a kid I played/rolled around in a derelict fibreglass boat for a day until my whole body was on fire. My little sister discovered some old insulation the cats were sleeping on and climbed in to cuddle with them. We found her in the act and rushed her into the bathtub but it was too late; crying and scratching for days! A great childhood tradition.
I love watching your videos, I feel like I am right there with you. Glad you are taking the extra time each day to go to the lake. When our kids were small we went camomile each summer for a month. We didn’t stay at the same place but we sure had a great time. I hope our kids will always remember it. Thank you for sharing so much info with us……you are a light in my day.
My eyes were tearing up in sympathy for you with all of that smoke! We get alot of wildfires here in California and it really bothers my eyes. Thanks for another wonderful video!❤
Here in NE BC the smoke is horrendous. Often ash covers our vehicles. But we’re greatful we’re not in a situation where we’d have to evacuate like so many around us. I remember being your age and all the canning and freezing. I loved to do it. Now I just love watching you. 😊
Wonderful progress, yummy canning/preserving & family activities! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to all & I pray the fires cease. We are getting the smoke here in Alberta, too, & some say it’s from BC. Our fires have been contained now.
Love the flick of the foot, closing your dishwasher! A new wire dog brush works great for poking holes in berries. I layer in two layers, put a piece of parchment over top of bottom layer and put another layer on top. Lisa would be helpful too, you can FD in the lids!! Dual purpose 😊 Once the strawflowers are fully open, save them! I still have some from 2004 that are dried. Same with dwarf sunflowers. I have a bouquet from my Dads memorial.
You've inspired me again--I'm soaking beans for pork and beans now. My black beans and pintos are done but I can't do as many in a day as you do. You're the best.
We are also experiencing smoky skies from the central/eastern Canadian fires! We can literally smell the fires down here. You have canned a ton in the past few days! The pantry’s gonna look so pleasant and satisfying. Take care, Doc❤
Homesteading Family covered freeze drying blueberries a few weeks ago. If you have heaps to do, do you can blanch them for 30 seconds, and them put in an ice bath. It should weaken the skins enough for them to freeze dry properly :)
If you do a rough chop in a food processor or blender with the blueberries will save so much time. They aren't pretty but if you use them in smoothies or cooking it doesn't matter, even if they are in a fruit salad it won't be too ugly.😁
We don’t have a farm but I still have so much that needs to be done. I have my shop connected to my house and I make skin care products and something always needs to be made. I have gardens on all four sides of the house. We planted 20 fruit trees/plants that require a lot of water the first year here in south Texas. It is hard to relax.
This video is making me think gassy…. What was for lunch? I am sad for you guys with the fires. Excellent job on all the canning. Fabulous. Thanks for the beans on toast with melted cheese.. sounds so good. I buy blueberries in bulk. I freeze them in ziplock after they dry. Easy. You need a beach towel for your rest. Love the lake trip. I think she was on to a good thing, she was a very busy lady, everything was homemade from scratch, pantry full off jams n jellies, pickles, chuckneys, green beans packed in salt, herbs hanging all around the farm house. I harvested my strawflowers when they were completely open or whatever stage i wanted to make a varied bouquet. I tied a few together, hung them upside down til dried and then made up my bouquets. They are so pretty and feel so odd compared to other flowers.

Hi Chelsea, I know you can a lot but I think you will also love to freeze dry many of your goods, with the amount of produce you are bringing home from the garden and farmers markets, a second freeze drier, if moneywise possible, will be a huge blessing for you during these busy months, you can even freeze dry milk, it's a game changer. Blessings to you and your family, I love your channel.
If you like blue berry pie or cobbler you should can some pie filling. It's easy and tastes amazing. We have been having a lot of smoke in are air. From Canada fire's it been really bad here in Ohio. Pray you are safe and they don't get to close to you! God Bless
How about dehydrating some of them for trail mix? And pie filling would be good! And some in a light simple syrup for yogurt!!! Just some different ideas!
Your area is suppose to be smoky until late evening. Beach day for us was cancelled as it's smoky in Red Deer as well. It's a closed window kind of day. Looking forward to making your bean recipes.
Agree with the extra set of trays… I have the large freeze dryer and have the extra set of trays and a set of the stackable lids… it works great it’s saves so much time ❤❤❤❤
Hey Chelsea, I will add a pound of browned ground beef to my Pork and Beans along with another bean, Lima, kidney or black(whatever I have on hand) and then add in a squirt or two😉of BBQ sauce, mustard, ketchup, molasses, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper; and chopped up fried bacon, and call it a meal! Really really good.
When I work in the floral shop we had straw flowers in the garden out side and when they were in full bloom we would cut them leaving around one inch of stem and take them into the shop and use floral wire and push it into the stem and dry them. By putting the wire up the stem when green when they were dried the stem would shrink around the wire and would become one with the flower. The ones we didn't get to before they dried we would use hot glue on the stem area before inserting the wire. I have 2 sets of trays and when I have more to freeze dry than I have trays I use my half sheet cookie trays to lay out my product and freeze them overnight then transfer to bags and refill my tray again and when my freeze dryer trays come available I dump my bags on to the trays. Rinse and repeat as many times as needed. I have done this with celery, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers.
yes removing the bands from the jars and washing the jars really well up and around the flat is one reason to remove the band but also leaving the band on can also hide a false seal if your jar becomes unsealed with the band on the band holding the flat on can also allow the lid to reseal giving it the look of being sealed and safe 🙂
Definitely make time for you and your family, life is so busy and you need to thank God for all the blessings we have. Your canning beans is amazing. Do you can beans with chili ingredients? Love your garden and greenhouse thank you for sharing. God's blessings
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and all your hard work in your kitchen. Helps to fill an emptiness inside since I no longer can actually do it myself.
We have a meal similar to this called cowboy pork and beans. We love it and serve it with either pasta or crusty bread. I've made it with belly pork, pork steaks and chops, different types of sausage and even works well with chicken. It has a lovely Smokey BBQ type sauce. We use black treacle in the UK and mustard powder.
I tried my hand at the pork and beans last year and I love them. It’s been so easy this summer when I want baked beans to just pop a jar and throw in the oven or on the grill. I can’t even imagine being were you are with all the smoke. I am in Illinois and our air quality is really bad today. The past 3 weeks off and on we’ve had air quality warnings. Thank you for sharing with us. I am patiently waiting for the hard copy of your cookbook. I can hardly wait. I hope you all have a blessed week. I just love your channel.
Hi Chelsea I bought the plastic lids from harvest right and it helps me stack trays in the freezer when I pre freeze. Then I can put more on them and use them as trays for the next batch!
You can freeze your blueberries first then put them in a food processor and just pulse the blade a couple times. It will kick the blueberries and then you won’t have to poke each blueberry. Then throw them in the freeze dryer. Saves a ton of time!
When you laid down I actually teared up...We all seem to forget to take a moment and just take in life! Thank you for sharing your beautiful life!!
The two can not be separated. ~Living life and doing for your family~ is what makes ~taking time out~ for life much better~!~
Farmers work is never done. My husband and i spend half hour after lunch and just sit and relax, i have a hammock that I spent my time in. My favorite time is walking the dog at 5am in the morning and just listen to all the birds singing. Have a great weekend
I have a chair I keep in my garden so I can just sit and relax with my plants. It is a great way to destress.
I came for your pork and bean recipe. Can't wait to try it. On another note...I dehydrate blueberries and you probably already know this by now... I use a metal hair pick to stab several berries at a time. They sell them on Amazon and they save a ton of time.

Haven’t seen smoke like that since my college dorm room back in ‘72😊!
I also remember playing in pink insulation when I was little, you really never forget that level of itchiness, do you, lol.
I agree about taking time for family. You need to enjoy the children while you can. Those are the future memories you will have. It’s not the number of jars or pounds of produce processed. I admire your determination in poking holes in all those blueberries. Your family is so lucky that you love providing so well for them!

My French Canadian grandmother used to can crabapples. Delicious!
When we lived in Saskatchewan we had a huge crabapple and it made the best and clearest canned apple juice using cream of tartar overnight on the apples. The resulting liquid was clear amber.
Mom canned them in Alberta. Delish👌👌
Thank you for sharing. You really are an inspiration! 😊
Have a wonderful weekend..we appreciate you Chelsey.❤😊
Same to you!
You are such a wonderful teacher!! Really
Thank you so much.😊
You are doing great, you can’t say your not doing the right thing so all you can do is trust in God. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💓💚🥰🤗
It must be 'in the air' . I have heard from many people that they are 'taking a break- regroup-just let it all go!' and I agree!! BEAUTIFUL and thank you for sharing~~
Well, I want to see the fun too. I wanted to see the lake and y’all swimming having a hallelujah good time.
I keep the camera at home for most of our family times, otherwise I get distracted trying to make videos and miss out on the fun.😊
You are a totally awesome lady bless you and your family
as a nurse we use a retractable cord to put keys on... that would be an excellent use for your scissors the they would be connected to the cord and you!
Chickweed is so good for lungs! It's a great medicinal plant in tea.

I was just going to start baked beans. Thanks for the video. I think I’m also going to do some kidney beans.
I will have to try this next, I just finished making Boston baked beans, yum!
Wishing you clear skies

I was just thinking yesterday if there was a good recipe for home-canned pork and beans! Thank you 😊
I thought you had gotten a second fridge! You certainly could use one!
Harvest Strawflower just before they open. They continue to open as they dry. If you leave them too long, they blow open 🎉

Hang in there love. You’re doing great.
Wait until the end of your chores and cooking when Dans home with the kids then go enjoy the garden!! Just for ten minutes at least!!
I am so happy today to receive my LMR tshirt in the mail! We are working indoors as it is 95F here today in Quincy, IL

Don't forget all the kale you were going to harvest and freeze dry also. Wish you the best .
Glad to see some curly parsley around. These days it's all flat leave. I prefer curly tho.
Straw flowers continue to open as they dry. I like buds just before they open and then all the stages afterwards. It adds something to the look.
I don't know how you do so much. You need to get more help with insulation and canning. You are amazing💗
As a kid growing up i was living with my mom n sister on my grandparents farm, due to my parents splitting up. My granny always told us to stop n smell the rose's. Can't wait to can the pork and beans!! I really need to get back to canning I haven't done anything in weeks !! Such an inspiration great job

Looks yummy! You could make your own brown sugar from some of that big jug of molasses
I sèen frozen blueberries run thru the food processor to knick each blueberry before freeze drying.
Please be careful my friend. I have heard that it’s really bad this year in BC. STAY SAFE
