Hinrich told the students to never storm the floor again after this win. It was great. This year, his senior year, was the first time I never heard an announcer mispronounce his name. This team losing the natty still hurts. Almost forgot this was the last year for Roy.
Iowa State was amazing in 2001. They had a 33 home winning streak at Hilton Coliseum since 1999. That was when Larry Eustacy was the head coach of the Cyclones.
Just think that only Carmelo Anthony and the Syracuse Orange kept the rematch from happening. As a UT fan would have loved to have played KU outside "the Phog" that year.
Texas Longhorns basketball? By FAR the truest/longest/most consistent Conf rivalry Kansas Jayhawks has had last 25yrs. Fr 1999-2013 was the strongest Kansas/Texas rivalry was. I'm 45 yrs old and sorry Mizz/KSU fans. All I've seen out KU vs Mizz/KSU is purely one-sided last 35yrs. Texas Longhorns actually RIVALED Kansas for a +10 yr period in 1st decade 21stCentury.
Let me tell you what...KU and Texas have had some classics over the years. This game and the game before it were just off the charts...KU won that game in Austin 110-103 in overtime. I'll never forget it. The referees were exhausted because so many points were scored in transition. One team would make a basket and before you looked up the other team was already on the other side of the court with the ball. And the teams/coaches respect each other, which is always nice to see. Texas has had some stars...if Barnes could get his guys to stick around he'd have a national title or two. Kevin Durant, DJ Augustin, LaMarcus Aldridge, PJ Tucker, TJ Ford, those are just a few of the guys they've had.
As a Kansas fan. I enjoyed the rivalry and classics KU and Texas brought. Don't forget Damion James, Jordan Hamilton, A.J. Abrams, Gary Johnson and others. Now with Myles Turner coming to Texas. We will see the same rivalry again between KU and Texas this season. Was a shame, Texas only made 1 Final Four during that span. 07,08, and 11 Texas all had shots. KU neat them for Conference Title every year though
I knew I was forgetting players that they had. What a roster! 2003 was the year they made the Final Four and lost to Syracuse. It is a shame, because they're a better program than that. I'm glad we play them twice now and not just once in the regular season. I'm looking forward to another great year of Big 12 basketball!
So am I. Big 12 brings so much excitement every year. And yes Texas was loaded, too bad we lost to Cuse in title game. Hinrich, Collison, Simien, Miles, Langford, Graves all on KU roster. Game in Austin next year will be a battle
As a KU fan, I enjoy playing Texas because they are a very worthy opponent, and they always give us their best shot. Kansas and Texas have had some of the most last games, including two classic games with Kevin Durant in 2007, and they were thrillers, I definitely remember that 110-103 game in Austin. That was one of the most unforgettable games I've ever seen, and both programs have had their fair share of stars.
1:25:50 - I miss that horn that sounded. So classic, I remember that sound since I was a little kid, wish they'd bring it back.
Nebraska 59 @ Kansas 92 Full Game (01-11-2003)

The Big 12 was so insanely good in the early 2000s
I'm tired of seeing you on every fucking Sports video do you have a job?
MICOLE WHYTE#Oneplus6T, A20, LG G6, You seem like a nice guy
OU was good, OK State was solid, UT, KU, and even Texas Tech. Hollis Price was one of my favorite players to watch back then

I was there behind KU bench what a game.
Top5 Jayhawks game ever

the year before that, Texas lost against Oregon to keep the rematch from happening in the Elite Eight.
Wasn't the BIG 12 Tournament in Dallas that year? Thought the two teams meet then as well.
Kansas & Texas were both much better than Cuse in 03

that "02 game in Austin was the most exciting college game I'd ever attended
Wonder if TJ Ford was still laughing and smiling on the flight home after the loss?
Do you remember how great they were? Rick Barnes use to be very good. Not so much these days. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!
