Watching this 10 years later after KU just made the national championship. I will always love this school. Some of the best sports memories I will ever have are games like these. The Missouri vs Kansas rivalry was just one of the best things ever.
As of 01/16/24, I’ve been to the last 316 KU men’s home games in Allen Fieldhouse in a row. And this game will always be the greatest game I’ve ever been to. No other game will ever come close to challenging it.
Self is such an underrated college basketball coach. If he doesn’t retire early because of health he’s going to win a few more. They’ve been by far the most consistent program in the sport since he took over.
This is coming from a die-hard Mizzou fan...even though we lost the game, this is one of the greatest games I ever watched. I can't tell you how many times I have watched this game and studied the footage.
Diehard Jayhawks fan. Lol you all had us. But why u all lost? Mizz got up big at almost mid 2ndHalf mark. Haith and Mizz wanted to EMBARRASS Kansas in this game after extending lead to 19pts mid 2ndHalf. In a game that had so much meaning. (Last meeting, plus game was basically for 2012 BigXII Conf Title too.) When Mizz had that 19pt lead mid 2ndHalf, Mizz started chucking 3s waaaaaaay too early in shotclock. It was apparent Mizz thought with that lead "why not just destroy KU." Not gonna happen at AFH. Haith should known KU wasn't just gonna give up. If Mizz would've ran they're offense thru Ratiliffe in final 10mins of game worked clock and found open looks? Mizz prob gets out there with 5-7pt victory. KU essentially beat Mizz at they're own game. 3pointers. Great game too. I'm not being biased. The best college fball and basketball games I've ever watched were Kansas vs Missouri. Fball, 2008 game in snow where KU won in walkoff on 4th&forever. Basketball, this 2012 game.
It's been down season for Kansas 2020-21 season. Even tho we are currently ranked #23 and lead the country in wins over ranked teams. My main goal for KU is to extend they're "Consecutive 1stRd winning streak" to 14 straight this 2021 NCAA Tournament. But remember I said this..... NCAA Tournament Committee has a sense of "setting up storyline" 2ndRd/Sweet16 matchups. Totally feel a KU/MU 2ndRd match up could happen this upcoming NCAA Tournament. It would be this city's 3rd "Super Bowl" type game in last 15 months.
Oh I agree that this Missouri team had a really bad ego. It showed a lot against Norfolk State. I think the main issue with that Missouri team came from Frank Haith. Marcus Denmon is my favorite Mizzou player, he went off against the Jayhawks in Columbia, and in this game. I don't understand why Haith didn't want Marcus to get the ball.
Missouri was up 19pts with 16mins to play in game. Thats the point Frank Haith and the entire Missouri team let their egos play for them. Translation? Missouri wanted to EMBARRASS Kansas instead of just playing smart, modest basketball like they had been doing for the first 24mins of the game. If Missouri played/coached smart after up 19pts with 16mins to play in game? Missouri leaves Allen Field House with A 5-9pt victory. I mean what was Frank Haith thinking!!!???!!! It's Kansas! It's Allen Field House!!! No one beats Kansas at home let alone by 20-27pts like I KNOW Frank Haith and his players were envisioning at that point. MU shot WAAAAY too many 3s after that point in the 2nd half, also way too early in shot clock. A good coach beats KU that day being up 19pts with 16mins remaining in game. No doubt. Bill Self knew he had to score pts with click stopped, so he went inside 2nd half, and KU beat MU at their own game in 2nd half, 3 point shooting. Rock Chalk! What "rivalry"? KU leads the MU series by like 77 games. KU has a slew of Conf Titles, Final Fours and 3 National Titles. Missouri hasn't won a Conf Title in 24 years, 0 Final Fours, 0 National Titles. Just cuz you share a state border or a state doesn't make it a "rivalry." The Real rivalry was KState vs Missouri. The both equal each other in a particular respect. KState leads MU by just 1 game in all-time series, KState has just 4 Final Fours, and 0 National Titles. FACT is? after Kansas got their 2nd National Title in 1988, KU and MU went in opposite directions. Kansas doesn't have a true rivalry. Like a Duke vs UNC or a Louisville vs Kentucky or a Mich St vs Ohio St
This is from a die-hard Mizzou fan...you are right in terms of Mizzou's ego getting to them. It clearly showed after the first half. Mizzou had chances to get the job done against Kansas and they just couldn't do it, not to mention that Phil Pressey wanted to be the hero so badly at the end of the second half which lead to him getting blocked by Thomas Robinson. The same thing happened against Norfolk State because at the end of the game Phil Pressey wanted to take the final shot although they had about 2 seconds left.
Kansas Jayhawks Basketball a NOTORIOUS 2ndHalf team under Bill Self. Don't believe me? Check out KU's 2ndHalf vs Miami in Elite8 & North Carolina in 2022 National Title Game! Rock Chalk Championship #4!!!!!!
2 phantom fouls. KU favor...of course. Just look at the free throw attempts. 1 at end of regulation...bogus, and then end of OT. Those should never decide the outcome...TWICE!
For all the talk about how bad the no call at the end of regulation was where Robinson blocked the shot, a worse call was a foul on Robinson at the 16:50 mark of the first half. It's all part of the game and a wash considering Robinson would have had an easy put back in the first half if not for the bad call.
Kansas beat the absolute shit out of Missouri most of the 2nd half but honestly it’s just sound strategy at that point. College officials have a tendency to let a lot of stuff go when a team is down big and 2, you might as well play defense without fear of fouling when you’re getting blown out because you’ve got nothing to lose at that point anyways. Selfs teams always get more physical when they’re in trouble. It’s really smart and i don’t know why other coaches don’t do this. Especially at home.
I will admit as a Jayhawks fan Tyshawn Taylor got away with a Offensive charge with 6:10 left in gm. Steve Moore was set/outside circle & took charge. Self wanted Kansas to drive and get fouled. It's what u do when dwn BIG with plenty time left. Cut into deficit at Free Throw line WHILE THE CLOCK IS STOPPED! Finally after 10mins of KU players driving paint/rim Steve Moore takes a charge but refs missed that call 4 sure but it was the only call that went KU'S way. Mizz got their share calls too go their way. It was cleanly called gm imo
I'm a Kansas fan but it's a shame this great/unique Mizzou team didn't have a real X's & O's Head Coach. This Mizzou team should been in New Orleans with Kansas in 2012. Cuz this type of Missouri basketball team imo would been a nightmare matchup for Kentucky. If Mizzou had a good coach. Cuz UK was more half-court team in 2011-12. I just believe Mizzou would been bad matchup for UK had Missouri made the National Semi-finals vs UK. Then would've been a Jayhawks vs Tigers National Title game 2012! Man that would've been awesome. MVP imo this game? The Kansas Jayhawks fans. Even dwn 19pts in 2ndHalf they STILL kept it HYPED all f'ing game! Haith & Missouri tried to EMBARRASS Kansas by continuing to chuck 3s/shoot jumpers early in shotclock up19pts in 2ndHalf when they should worked half-court and worked shotclock and limit their jumpshots up 19pts. Yes Missouri had a style of fast play all 2011-12 season but give me a break. Head Coach needed realize they were up BIG and adjusted their game geared toward scoreboard! Mizzou would have worked shot clock then penetrate the paint or go Ratliffe inside? No doubt they escape this game with a 5-7pt win in Regulation. I mean Haith HAD know no one blows out let alone even BEATS Jayhawks at home. They weren't gonna blow them out.

They not ONLY win this big game at Allen FieldHouse but would've won their first BigXII Conference Title. Plus been a #1seed in 2012 NCAA Tournament. Lol I think the worse thing was after that good possession and going back up 16pts with 12mins to play was after stopping Kansas on other end Kim English (who was a BIG shit talker that season) hit a 3pointer fr corner putting Missouri up 19pts with under 12mins play. Cuz immediately after Self took a timeout and I GURANTEE English ran over and said "....we got this game now so let's not just win let's destroy them in our final reg season matchup on their home court." English probably got even Frank Haith fired up too. After that 3point shot put Missouri up 19pts? Mizzou takes a ton jumpers WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early in shotclock. To me it's like that English 3pointer hurt them. They saw big stars after that! Plus Kim English was probably already envisioning his post win celebration "talk/actions." Mizz wasn't looking at time left (Lol which wasn't much after getting up 19pts.) Kim & Mizzou were "scoreboard watching" and wanted a +25pt BEATDOWN. Probably the worst In-Game coaching I've ever seen in my +30yrs watching College Hoops. Missouri had the right idea after Dixon 3pointer put them back up 61-47 with lil under 14mins left? ???? Do u/ not know college basketball or seen good coaching when down big? Self instructed his guards to drive rim/paint to get fouled! When u are dwn BIG as Kansas was? U wanna try stop clock/close the deficit at Free Throw line WHILE THE CLOCK IS STOPPED!!! Plus ? KU made a shit-ton of 3pointers after Halftime. Mizzou missed a shit-ton 3pointers after Halftime. Not sure how refs helped with all those KU 3pointers made?!?!?
KU history goes back to the beginning of college basketball. The 'border war' was always hard fought. When The Missouri bean counters decided to join the SEC, Missouri's history now goes back to, well . . . (I suspect that it will be a long time before BU plays Missouri.)

#1 1:31:21 Worst call (non-call) in the history of this rivalry.
#2 Keyon Dooling's "charge" call when he dunked all over a KU defender who was trying to get out of the way moving sideways.
#3 Big 12 officials show up and leave Allen Fieldhouse in KU jackets.
seanYsean A worse call than the one at the end of regulation would be the foul called on Robinson around the 16:50 mark of the first half.
WHAA
Rock Chalk I’ll get you banned from TH-cam for wanting him to cry.
33:13? Charge call on TRob. Would been an And1. It was CLEARLY a blocking call on Mizz. Mizz player was moving and one foot in restricted area in paint.
Huge call that went Mizz way. Even both announcers couldn't believe it. Also gave TROB 2nd foul JUST B4 Halftime. Also would've been 3 huge missed pts for KU
Not sure how refs helped with all those KU 3pointers made?!?!?
foul
MizLOL
that was not a good call
Foul tf outta pressey
Michael Porter Jr Coming To Missouri. MIZ-ZOU go missouri
And he did nothing
😆😆😆😆
KU history goes back to the beginning of college basketball. The 'border war' was always hard fought. When The Missouri bean counters decided to join the SEC, Missouri's history now goes back to, well . . . (I suspect that it will be a long time before BU plays Missouri.)
I have a strange feeling. ...Kansas vs Missouri, 2ndRd match up in 2021 NCAA Tournament.
The simplistic timpani mostly yell because wedge genomically cheer beside a possible quiver. abrupt, even excellent excited pound
Terrible calls in this game that probably cost Missouri
hhahahahahaha missouri is terrible
Mizzou is now, they should have won this game but the refs sucked
+NoThoughtz ok bud
why were they bad back then xD they are now i agree but they wernt then
