  • Just a quick channel update with a review of the newest line of colours from Vallejo, the Mecha Colors! Oddly enough there's no information available on their website, but most stores that carry Vallejo will be soon carrying the Mecha line. There's also a handy store locator for both physical and online shops.

A few people have asked where you can get the color chart. It's available in the downloads section on Vallejo's website. The link is on the top right of their site. The chart off their site doesn't have the shown conversions. It has conversions to Mr. Color.

It takes some digging through their site but it's there. Here's a link to the list of pdfs:

Do you know where i can find a copy of that mecha color leaflet online to get a better look at the paint conversions?

Ross Clark I got mine from the local shop that had just received the paints. Vallejo supplies them with the order of paints for stores to hand out for free. If your local shop didn't receive them they can probably get in touch with their distributor to get some sent to them.

Any idea if the mecha varnishes can be sprayed onto bare gunpla plastic?

uss717hamptonify yes I did that with a couple of parts I didn't want to paint, but planned on doing a panel wash with. The most important thing with the whole range is giving enough dry time for the layers to set. While you can spray a colour or varnish and have it be dry to the touch in about 15-20 minutes, the paints and varnishes need at least 24 hours to be ready for things like panel lining, weathering, chipping effects etc.

By the way how well do the varnishes hold up on unpainted kits? I'm planning on just straight mecha gloss coating my MG full armor gundam, panel lining and then satin coating it

uss717hamptonify supposedly these varnishes are intended to be tougher than their standard range, since it gunpla kits have a lot of moving parts or parts that get handled frequently. I would say, to be on the safe side, take the additional step of washing all of your parts in dish soap to ensure all of the mold release is off of the plastic. After it's all dry, it should be ready for a gloss coat and once that's completely dry it should be ready to accept a panel line wash. I would matte varnish after to seal everything down
