I am a big Vallejo fan but any hobbyist should know its all about the right tools for the job. AP tones for a quick shade and solid seal for gaming. Oils for a cleaner/panel wash. Golden for primes and especially (very important to me at least) for white. Great video!
Thank you very much, ironically I would recommend the SMS airbrush paints for priming because of the teeth it has and instant drying. So you are 100% right the right tools for the job. I hope that comes across in the video - Cal
Your critiques about Army Painter are valid, but I don't think their goal was pure pigments that you can mix, but a giant array of colors so that amateur artists don't need to mix. Love the channel, new sub!
Thanks glad to have another sub and one who engages. I think it's fair for them to have different goals like colour mixing not being their top priority is totally cool. The thing is they called it pure red, that was the issue, like I said if they had called it dragon red or something like that I don't think I would be as upset - Cal
Great video, Sunny & Cal! I was lucky to watch the live stream and see the paints in action while hearing your thoughts on them. I have the original Army Painter and Vallejo Model Air paints, each with their own strengths and uses in my hobby space. I look forward to seeing your wonderful characters! more Stargrave models would be very inspiring for us as well, thank you very much for tuning into all our streams we loved the Company ~Sunny
Thanks so much for running this experiment! I've been struggling with the paint I've been using and was starting to think that maybe it was a problem of materials rather than technique. Seeing your experiences clarifies that it's an issue of how I'm using the paints. Next step (I think): work out how to brighten up large shadows in my zenithal undercoat (I overbrush then drybrush). With that I can stop trying to even out large shadow areas with brighter ones in the undercoat. Thank you for sparking ideas about how I might improve my painting.

I felt really dumb once I figured out the bottle could be opened for the infinite colour ones, hopefully the steel balls I added will make some difference, because when I was getting a good result I wasn't mad at it so I want to see how far we can really push this paint, because the colours are so incredibly vibrant with these, I feel it a bit of a waste to not try again ~Sunny
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow most people that use it really enjoy it. The paints are thinner than GW so they can dilute faster on a wet palette, but for the drier climate in Arizona, they work extremely well.
Golden has another line called SoFlat Matte; using a bit of those and thinning them with some of the High Flow really cuts the gloss. The HF Titanium White is also an excellent replacement for Liquitex Titanium White when I'm out. I totally admit to being a Golden fanboy though; they're the first paint I reach for.
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow The Fluid colors and High Flow still mix really well with matte mediums as well, or a more matte paint from another brand. I'm sure the conversion from USD makes it a bit more difficult for you guys, but if I go to my local arts supply store instead of a craft store like Michaels, the Golden paints in one or two oz. sizes are only $1-2 more expensive (depending on series and pigment) compared to miniature paints and significantly cheaper when you break it down per oz. They're definitely not the best choice if you're interested in copying Codex or GW approved color schemes, but as far as pigment saturation, mixability, and availability, they've won me over. If I was going straight miniature paint, I agree with you guys... Vallejo is my favourite, even though it's ironically the hardest for me to find locally.
