Roy Scheider was VERY unhappy to be in this sequel, but he was under contract to Universal and was basically forced to do it. The actors say he pretty much kept to himself on this shoot, but was very professional when it was his turn and quite generous to his fellow cast members, even giving some of the younger stars acting pointers. Scheider liked working with Spielberg and Dreyfuss on the first film, but since this was basically a money grab by the studio, he knew they would not be involved and it irked him.

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It's ok; Scheider did "All That Jazz" next, his greatest non-Jaws role/movie. He bounced back! (He also was in "Sorcerer" in '77 which was a huge bomb, but is considered a masterpiece now)

Aw he seems like just that type of guy honestly! That’s cool that he kept his professionalism, even though he didn’t want to make the film! Thanks for the info!! And watching along!

I’m so happy you reacted to this. Most YT reactors will watch the first Jaws film, but completely ignore the rest. I guess it’s because all but the first received poor reviews. I can understand why the third was disliked, even though I still enjoy it, but Jaws 4 is quite entertaining, while Jaws 2 is actually my favorite in the series. I guess it’s because, how the shark dies is absolutely epic. Plus, Donna Wilkes is such a fabulous actress. She truly is still the reigning ‘Scream Queen’, all thanks to this particular performance. My mom and I always got a kick out of her scenes.
The reason why Jaws looked different later on was because his left side got burned during the boat explosion. You thought there might have been two sharks, but there was just the one.

For all the hate thrown at Mayor Vaughn in the first movie, in this movie there was a cut scene, we see the town council vote to fire Chief Brody. The council has many faces familiar from the 1st movie but there is only ONE person who votes NOT to fire Brody and that is Mayor Vaughn. He really was doing what the town wanted all along and appears to be the only person to have learned his lesson from 1975.

Hi Cami!🙂The last time I saw this I rented it on VHS in the 80s. Steven Spielberg did not return to make "Jaws 2". Yep, because they are on an island there are underwater power lines that go to the island to give them electrical power. Yeah, you could tell more in this film that it was a mechanical shark. "What's after Cable Junction?"
    "The Atlantic. Then Ireland."
Fun Fact: On the Brody family front porch is a flower planter painted bright yellow. It is one of the barrels from the first Jaws (1975).
Bruce Unbound Fact: Although the first film was commended for leaving the shark to the imagination until two-thirds of the way through, Jeannot Szwarc felt that they should show it as much as possible because the dramatic "first image of it coming out of the water" in the first film could never be repeated.
Shark Weekend Fact: Marc Gilpin claims that when they were shooting one of the scenes on the makeshift raft of wrecked yachts, they were being circled by a real hammerhead shark. The actors were scared and began to scream and holler at the production crew, which was filming that particular scene from a distance. The crew was oblivious to the danger and assumed the actors were simply "in character" and gave them the thumbs up.
Location Location Fact: The name of the small rocky island with an electrical relay station on it was "Cable Junction" island. This was actually a set that caused numerous problems during filming. The island was made from plastic / fiberglass material and was set on two barges. The surface of it was so slippery it was difficult to traverse it or even grab hold of it. This resulted in numerous retakes having to be shot, with actors slipping and falling off it constantly. Due to not being anchored properly, it once drifted away into the ocean, and the production had to go out and tug it back.

This movie often gets a bad rap, especially since it followed one of the greatest films of all time, but this was a quality sequel by all metrics. Brody being the sole force here, instead of the three of the original was great, as he kind of became Quint & Hooper all rolled in to one for this outing. While this movie didn't match the first, it was a quality effort all the same, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone as a movie worth watching.

Richard Dreyfuss was originally intended to be in the movie, but was busy doing "Close encounter of the third kind". They really went out of their way to bring the whole gang back together.
Funny thing though, many years later Richard Dreyfuss made a cameo as an unnamed character, but is very clearly intended to be Matt Hooper, getting eaten in the opening scene of "Piranha 3D". Kind of a tongue in cheek reference - he survived "Jaws", but these horror comedy piranhas got him good 🙂That one's obviously not a GOOD movie per se, but hilariously entertaining. And not unintentionally either, it hits all the marks it's actually aiming for.

since Hooper was killed in the book that the original movie was based, it would have been awkward for him to be included in the 2nd, so they wrote him out of this by saying he was on the Aurora on the other side of the earth. Marge's death in this rivaled only Quints death as the saddest in the series. You could hear the fear in her voice when she was struggling to climb aboard.

As a kid this one terrified me more than the first. I think I was an 8yr old when I first saw it on TV and I could not sleep for months/ years. It is the acting of the two female leads that just got into my young head. THIS was what fear looked like, and I had trouble with open water my whole life.
I have recently learned that sharks have no interest in eating people. There are videos of people in deep water helping sharks remove fish hooks from their mouths (some sharks leave and then bring back a hooked shark for assistance), and one video of a guy that had befriended a massive "man eater" who oved nothing more than nose roobs. They are deeply misunderstood and intelligent creatures.
Donna Wilkes went on to star in a "only in the 80s" movie called Angel which was about a fifteen year old schoolgirl that moonlighted as a prostitute.

11:42 "Doesn't she know the history of the town?"
    That doesn't matter at all.
    Sharks aren't territorial.
Sharks aren't migratory. At least, not in the sense that they follow a very specific pattern like deer do.
There are hundreds of coastal beaches in the US that have never had a reported shark attack.
There are hundreds that have had a reported shark attack (but that doesn't always mean a human was bitten, just attacked).
There are only a few dozen beaches that have had more than 1 attack.
There are only 5 beaches that have had more than 3 shark attacks.
    Ever.
The real 5 towns on the top 5 list needed about a century to get there.
Amity made the top 5 list in a little over a week.
Of course, Amity isn't real and Jaws is a monster movie, not a shark movie.

I've always enjoyed Jaws 2 as much as the first one, while I have issues with the movie it has nothing to do with it being a sequel (plus I don't compare sequels to origonals anyway) and those don't ruin my overall enjoyment of it. To me it is one of those sequels that is different from the first but not straying too far from it which is a very hard balance to acheive with sequels. The music by John Williams is awesome and some of the scenes of the movie I love with the score includes the shark cruising into the harbour at night, the water skier attack and when the shark first attacks the group. The character moments were great as well such as Brody's ptsd, the relationships the teenagers have as they come together to survive especially after the helicopter scene.

22:33 "Now he's like in shock."
    Nope.
    He has the bends.
This happens when divers go down more than about 10 meters then come back up too quickly.
That guy panicked and shot to the surface way too fast.
This causes air bubbles inside the body.
These bubbles do all kinds of damage to internal tissues, including the brain.
Mild cases might just cause joint pain, severe cases can lead to paralysis or death.
Divers are trained to rise slowly from all dives.
One good rule is that they should blow out air bubbles then make sure they rise slower than the bubbles do, but a much better rule is to rise a little, then stop for a while, then rise a little, then stop for a while.
Divers call the rise/stop method "decompression stops" and any good diving instruction teaches this before anybody is allowed in the water.
Guy saw a shark, panicked, and possibly killed himself shooting up to the surface like that.
it's just about the only realistic part of the movie.
Don't get me wrong, I love Jaws and Jaws 2, but I take them as monster movies with no more bearing on reality than a Godzilla movie.

It was the burn mark on the right side of it's head that made you wonder. The shark suffered that scar from the explosion after attacking the towboat driver, remember? Anyway, wonderful Reaction video. I will watch it again a few more times.

Could an experienced water skiier zig zag sharp enough to avoid a shark swimming this fast? Come to think of it, how fast would a 30 foot Great White be swimming compared to smaller sharks? Would cornering be a problem for a shark that big?

Pretty lousy. Spielberg and Richard Dreyfuss didn't make the crappy "Jaws 2"....they made the 1977 masterpiece "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" instead. THAT'S what you want to watch. He hit 'em with "Jaws", then a second blockbuster "Close Encounters"....and that pretty much clinched the rest of his career, he was the "wonderboy", along with George Lucas (who had done "American Graffiti", then "Star Wars").

My thoughts are that this is not a bad sequel, those are down the line. This is very okay. The scares in this are a hundred times more frightening than in the first film and that helps it, especially when the shark get Margie. That was IMHO thee scariest scene of the whole movie.
The problem with this film is that there aren't many characters to care about and teenagers are not interesting people. I should care about all the victims of this monster but I don't. Of all the victims in this one the only ones I do care about are Tina, the pilot and Margie and that's not enough for me.

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 ปีที่แล้ว

Melanie: this is a bad sequel, someone needs to break the news to you. Perhaps your problem is that you don't know what a good movie looks like. "Jaws 2" is a pathetic, hilariously dopey, forgettable piece of garbage made for jackasses and suckers who never really understood what was great about the first one. "Jaws 2" is the beginning of an ATROCIOUS trend that continues to this day, as the movie biz got taken over by accountants and lawyers: FRANCHISES FOR THE BRAIN DEAD. Endless sequels and rehash for suckers too stupid to know they're being laughed at by the people who made the movies. You accept mediocrity like "Jaws 2", you're part of the problem. I saw "Jaws 2" when it came out and it was an instant dud. As if it could possibly be any good! When people like you defend shit work, you hold back all of humanity. GET SOME TASTE, Melanie, for once in your life.

I don't understand why you thought that was a different shark when it had the same burns and everything from the motorboat explosion. Or did you think it was the shark whose head was blown off at the end of the previous movie? No, this shark had a head so you didn't mean that. What _did_ you mean?
The shark's scales scraped her skin, that's why she bled.

    • @Letstunein

With the Teeth Chomping him in half, plus his Torsel and top half steal sticking out at the end. Makes up for the cheese 🧀🍕. Between ,1983 Superman 3 , hell no, Halloween 3, yes it grown in a good way since,1983 . Amityville 3, well some of the effects are creepy, but Amityville,2 , the possession , beats all three, Amityville , Trilogies, whatever you do please do Amityville 2 for September and October., But for Jaws,3 watch it then judge, Jaws,4 ? Also please 🥺 do ,1983 Twilight Zone the Movie ,also, Stephen Spielberg , was one of the Director's 🍿🎥. 1. Eye candy. (both sexes) Especially Tina Wilcox/Ann Dusenberry.😍😋
    2. I like the interaction between the kids. Except when they're stupid. The Helo sees you. No need to be attracting attention.
    3. The woman in the boat at the beginning pouring gasoline on herself was stOOOOOOOOOpid X 100
    4. The biggest mistake these people make is re-electing that idiot, Mayor.
    5. "Elvis" is played by Keith Gordon. Two notable roles are Arnie in Stephen King's "Christine" and with Rodney Dangerfield in 'Back to School".
    6. DON'T do the next one. Roy Schieder read the script and refused to play Brody. He didn't want to do this but was under contract. He behaved so badly that he got released for the third one. It's that bad.

Hi Cami. Im glad your interested in reviewing this and possibly the remaining Jaws sequels. Most viewers feel that only the second Jaws movie is worthy as a sequel to the original. I leave up to you to decide how you feel about the 3 Jaws sequels. Many things others have mention about the film in their comments are true. Making the second Jaws was difficult as making the first but with the added difficulty of telling a new story that equals the the 3 men onboard the Orca and the overall suspense and thrills of first.
The prevailing wisdom about the sharks in jaws and its sequels is that they are all related and or family. According to Jaws folklore Bruce in Jaws is the mate of Jaws 2 also referred to by some as Brucettta. In Jaws 3 or Jaws 3d as the movie is sometime referred to the the shark is again called Bruccetta who has a baby shark of her own no apparent relation to the the first two Jaws sharks. Jaws 4 or referred to as Vengeance is the apparent offspring of Bruce and Brucetta from Jaws and Jaws 2. If you ant more info go to the website the daily jaws.com.
