Thank you for the fabulous video. I'm Malcom's age and lost my 90 year old father early Thursday morning. What Malcom discussed toward the end of the video concerning "being present" brought a tear to my eye. My father spent the last six weeks of his life in my home, under the care of myself and hospice. My world narrowed to a very specific focus, where nothing mattered but my father and his care. I was able to put aside everything else and say "here I am" to my ailing father. I'm grateful that I had that opportunity and committed to bringing that attitude to all the important relationships in my life. Thank you sir.
God bless you sir. Yes it was definitely a blessing for both of you to be able to spend time together in his last months. Both of my parents died suddenly, and I was far enough away that I was not there. I really felt blessed reading your post. John.
One thing I like about both of these gentlemen's channels is their accents. Alan, with his wonderful southern accent and Malcolm's quintessential English accent. I'm English and think how sad it would be if regional accents died out.
Stonewall Jackson meets Bilbo Baggins, in the 21st century. A very good interveiw that I truly enjoyed. Thanks Mr. Harralson. God bless you, and Mr. Guite. One of the best videos I've watched in a long while.
The thing I love about Pipe Smoking is I am able to fondly remember my past good and even bad. A person might say why the bad and I think you see God's hand in every aspects of your life. I also find the pipe clears my mind and clears the fog out of my mind and allows me to remember the present. I have Parkinson's Disease and as it progresses I count on the clarity the pipe gives me. God has blessed me and I want for nothing so yes my Pipe is a blessing. God Bless.
As I have not travelled far from my home of Somerset England I sit here fascinated with the American fellow, he is like a character from a Hollywood film the way he looks and speaks. The very fact that people like him are "real" just like the mind boggling city of LA is real is very hard for a country boy like me to take in. Wonderful video thank you for posting.
Two of my favorite TH-camrs. I pray that the Lord blesses you both and further enhances your enjoyment of the simple things in life. Thanks for the video
I found myself not only sitting here nodding constantly during this wonderful conversation, but reflecting thoughtfully upon my own love of smoking pipes and cigars and how my thoughts around the hobby are very much aligned with these fine gentlemen. Cheers to all my fellow pipe and cigar enthusiasts out there.
This is pure gold! It's so nice that in the midst of this insane, overly fast-paced, anti-Christian world in which we live in (but into which God has placed us--purposely--by His divine intention), some of us can slow down, enjoy a pipe and talk about things of goodness: Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
Malcolm has been a huge role model as yourself has been for a beginner pipe smokesmoker. Incredible how a non religious, Swedish man as myself could find the two of you so interesting and it makes me consider my life, the universe and everything of that pipe smoking has already given me in the short time I've spent with this hobby and lifestyle. Thank you for this.
I had my two Savinellis on the Lynchburg TN square Sunday. My 611 Honey I had just sat down and fired up a bowl of Capt. Black Cherry. A string of about 8 tourists came by and said how wonderful it smelled & one gent said "I thought we were close to a restaurant"! They ALL loved it. Awhile later, setting in another spot with my gf and a brand new Roma 606 that had its inaugural light with Great Dane Vanilla...two ladies were taking photos of a young man for his senior pics. My smoke was blowing right at them, so I asked "Ladies, is my smoke bothering you"? OH NO! We were just talking about how WONDERFUL it smelled..it reminds me of an old, long deceased Uncle I had. You arent bothering us at all". I thanked them , and thought how nice a thing to say. TWO positive encounters in just a couple hours.
Please do more of these. Not only is the conversation between two people even more thought provoking than just one person's speech, but the younger generation (I'm 23 smoking some C&D Odessa as I type this) eat up long for content that you can just listen to. Often times our short attention spans make reading a little less enjoyable over longer periods of time, but listening is something we can still manage to do.
Great interview!! As a younger poet and pipe-smoker, Malcolm Guite is one of my heroes of the faith. I have copies of of nearly all his works, both poetry and prose. His book "Mariner" in my opinion is the definitive work on Coleridge and his famous "Rime of the Ancient Mariner".
Goodness me. One can begin to conceive of what heaven must be like in simply listening to these gentlemen converse with such courtesy and class, humility and wisdom.
What a fantastic interview! I could listen to you both all day! Please Please catch up with each other again soon. Really, Really enjoyable. Congratulations on such a treat for us.
What a delightful and unexpected treat this was. I just happened upon Mr. Malcolm's channel a few weeks ago and I went on a lovely trip down that rabbit hole. Thank you for having him as a guest.
I'm glad you shared this with us. I hope we can carry these "old" ways well into the future and carry on traditional style of intellectual conversations and mutual respect for one another. This is pure gold what you have going on with the pipe cottage.👍🏼👍🏼
I have always enjoyed watching Malcolm's channel. He and I are the same age and of the same mind. I enjoy hearing his poetry and hearing his critiques on great poets of the past . I really like the way he runs his channel as though you are sitting there with him. Thank you so much for sharing this interview. Very truly yours Ron
Wow what a fantastic video. This was the perfect backdrop to an hour of work during my afternoon. I'm not a religious person but I love Malcolm Guite for his thoughtfulness and his skill with the verse and his love for so many of the classic works of literature that I love. And I have to say, this was a wonderful interview, I appreciate the thoughtful questions you posed to him, and I appreciated that you gave him the room to speak and really answer them all.
Ahhh Alan I love ya brother!! Thank you so much for that! Im a huge fan of Mr Guite. You asked him all the questions I would have and more. Great work sir!👏👏👏
A great conversation to observe. I particularly enjoy going to my shed, where there is no phone reception, and just be present with my pipe. Its a true haven to me. When I am overwhelmed I try to remind myself that being present is all there actually is. Amazing final words.
What a great conversation!! It's allways time we'll spent listening to Alan and Malcolm. Having the two of them together is really a fine treat! Thank You Gentlemen.
The one thing that seems to be overlooked about the enjoyment of smoking a pipe is the art, craft and material of the pipe. There is a person or persons who have constructed the pipe, with a material that Mother Nature has provided. Being a professional woodworker, I appreciate the uniqueness of each pipe as being one of a kind based on its material and the hands that constructed it. Wonderful interview! Hope you can interview pipe craftsman as well. I suggest Dan Boswell.
Fantastic conversation. Dr Harrelson, as a Brit I often hear Americans complement us on our accents. I would like to return the compliment. Your accent wonderful. Its a triumph for the articulation of the English language.
Such a pleasant surprise to see you talking with Malcolm. I've had two chats with him on my channel, and he's an endlessly good conversationalist. Glad to take in a Guite conversation solely about pipes.
What a wonderful conversation regarding things of wisdom and pleasurable. Thank you, Allen, for doing this conversational interview. I'm a fan of you borh, as you know. As a writer in later life, I struggle with finding the time to sit and write. The pipe has helped me slow down and do that. What great support for the growth of a being a real thinking man. Just the best.
Love this video. Malcolm Guite is a legend. I love his writings and his pipe smoking. Thank you for your video and collaboration with him! Happy smokes sir!
Wonderful! What a pleasure. Thank you for sharing this. I'm grateful for all of your videos and especially grateful to you for your frequent mentions of Wendell Berry. I will never stop reading Jayber Crow. Berry is an absolute hero.
What a refreshing, thought-provoking, and beautiful conversation between genuine gentlemen. You have blessed and encouraged the hearts of many men today.
Thank you so much. It was a true blessing, as it always is on this channel. I look forward to each new video. So much wisdom and positive advice in your content.
This was absolutely enjoyable to watch and listen to this morning. Alan another outstanding discussion and choice of guest to have on your channel. Malcolm is a tru delight and superb speaker. I wasn’t enjoying a pipe while watching but I most certainly will rewatch this later and enjoy a Peterson Pipe with some PS Proper English and a glass of scotch later this afternoon. I absolutely agree that the pipe requires though, preparation, time and quiet. Being able to just sit and enjoy the moment while allowing everything else to be still is perfect. Cheers to you Alan and Malcolm 🥃
I really enjoyed this video as I do many Pipe Cottage videos and also Malcolm's content - Together was really good. I took up the pipe to better relax and enjoy. I often catch-up on this sort of content while I am enjoying a bowl. This morning I sat on the porch of our little temporary Airbnb in West Virginia (in wait of our first granchild) - I braved a bit of biting wind to enjoy a bowl of Old Dark Fired and cup of black coffee all the while enjoying the video as if I were sitting in the room and puffing away while taking it all in. I took a moment (and take the answer for what it's worth) to ask AI for the etymology of the word "Lunting" - Here is what that netherworld delivered - "The word "lunting" is believed to have originated from the Scottish language in the 17th century. It comes from the Scottish verb "lunt," which means to smoke or to emit smoke. The act of walking while smoking a pipe was referred to as "lunting" because the smoke would be trailing behind the person as they walked. Over time, the term "lunting" became more commonly associated with the leisurely act of walking while smoking a pipe. Today, the term is not commonly used outside of pipe-smoking circles, but it remains a quaint and nostalgic term that evokes a sense of leisure and relaxation."
Sir Malcolm I don’t know if you will see this I am from the great state of Mississippi USA I’ll listen to you at night while I drive my semi your stories and explanation of Bible verses means a great deal to me and your poetry those also with gods love stay strong and keep it coming
What an absolute pleasure to watch. Looking forward to re-watching, with pipe in hand. Well presented and articulated topics and intriguing observations by these two gentlemen.
What a thoroughly enjoyable experience listening to these two Gentlemen. It makes you appreciate a Pipe for something more than just a pleasurable smoke. I have tried the tobacco that Malcom mentioned, Kendal black cherry and it was a most enjoyable smoke I must say. Thank you both for your time and company Gents.
I throughly enjoyed the video. I have followed Malcolm's channel from the beginning. The discussion was very enjoyable and thought provoking. Maybe we'll meet some time.I will be moving to Kentucky some time after May. I'm getting older. 8-) Thank you very much.
Can beautiful describe a TH-cam video. The original recordings the Percy Grainger made to compose Lincolnshire Posey are quite remarkable, has is how he respected those voices with his adaptation are quite amazing. Thank you to my daughter for sharing those with me.
Love your channel, and Malcolm Guite is one of my go too’s on you tube, if you could have a guest for Sunday dinner he would be in our top 5 such a knowledgable gentleman
I must thank you fellows i was smoking and listening and i suddenly felt a great urge and fell on my knees and prayed like I had not in some time. Thank you gentlemen for helping me to once more renew my faith in the almighty.
Thank you so much for this great video! I need to watch it again, it is so full of wisdom and great advice. You are a great host and thank you for posting this gem.
Possibly the greatest crossover within the TH-cam cosmos

God bless you man, and deepest condolences for your father.

Malcolm is a diamond of a gentleman and poet. And your Kentucky accent is delightful to these English ears
Stonewall Jackson meets Bilbo Baggins, in the 21st century. A very good interveiw that I truly enjoyed. Thanks Mr. Harralson. God bless you, and Mr. Guite. One of the best videos I've watched in a long while.
More like foghorn leghorn
I wasn't expecting a conversation between these two giants but man was I delighted to see it in my feed.
Very Excellently done...
Excellent discussion...
Malcom Guite is a treasure. A wise and pointed lesson on temperance. ❤
A little too blue pilled for me, but I' am a young pipe smoker so that may just be age that is the difference between us.
The thing I love about Pipe Smoking is I am able to fondly remember my past good and even bad. A person might say why the bad and I think you see God's hand in every aspects of your life. Wonderful video thank you for posting.
Great conversation gentlemen! Greetings from Ireland. Home of kapp and Peterson
That was an hour spent in wonderful company. It feels like we are all in a lounge together, very inviting.
Two of my favorite TH-camrs. I pray that the Lord blesses you both and further enhances your enjoyment of the simple things in life. Thanks for the video
Thank you both for this wonderful opportunity to listen, learn and be grateful. Happy Easter to you both. Kind regards, SF

I purposely started smoking pipes very recently with the uttermost intent to begin slowing down and writing poetry while puffing on my pipe. 😊
I always enjoy Malcolm.
Malcom is quite the character. I enjoyed hearing his thoughts. I just wish he would have let you contribute more to the conversation.

Just got my first Pipe. Pure Inspiration.
I love Malcom,such a beautiful soul.
A great collab! One I didn’t expect, a merging of pipe and literary interests!
An hour of my time truly well spent. Thank you both for sharing this conversation. 🇬🇧

One more tremendous conversation for my library. Like Malcolm I enjoy your 'content and delivery.' all dressed up on this one 😊
What a refreshing, thought-provoking, and beautiful conversation between genuine gentlemen. You have blessed and encouraged the hearts of many men today.
So glad to hear malcolm talk about Tolkiens writtings.
Thank you so much. It was a true blessing, as it always is on this channel. I look forward to each new video. So much wisdom and positive advice in your content.

What a beautiful dialogue: an older, wiser man and a younger man with wisdom enough to ask to best questions.

I love this channel. It is informative and entertaining.
When I heard the borderlands and their connection to Appalachia, my ears perked up! That's my roots!
I emerge from this video, as usual, better off in mind than I was before going in. Thanks for putting together this talk.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. I would enjoy seeing more on a regular basis if it were doable. Excellent piece!
What a beautiful video!! Don’t forget the aesthetics of pipes themselves. They can be exquisite in design, finish, etc, regardless of how they smoke.
I realy enjoy watching youre videos may Christ bless you both 🙏🏼

Thank you so much for this great video! I need to watch it again, it is so full of wisdom and great advice. You are a great host and thank you for posting this gem.

Perfect conversation to smoke my pipe to 😊. Thank you for the video I’ve enjoyed myself thoroughly
Excellent Video! Well Done..👍🏻👍🏻
What an absolute gem of a human being
