Unfortunately, I didn't catch a factual mistake of mine at 5:29 The line should have been "We know New York can do worse." But I misspoke and said CPM, which is wrong because Media Blasters dubbed The Tokyo Project, not CPM. A thousand apologies.
I heard a pretty cool theory for why they are associated with witchcraft Basically, ancient people didn't really understand that living with various vermin lead to poor health so women living alone with a cat would have better overall health and sometimes completely avoid sicknesses that would spread through the town via vermin because their cat would act as a deterrent Thusly people started to believe that those women were magic and the common denominator of cats were in on it

Considering it managed 16 volumes before said hiatus, that's not bad, all things considered. According to Wikipedia, it also managed an OVA on top of these episodes.
I like the "I was wrong" edit. CPM's strategy seems pretty legit at the time. Girls, Guns, and Animation=$$$. Also the bad guys have action movie tropes all over them. They can empty whole magazines from their guns at point blank range and still manage to miss.
I was expecting Geobreeders to be more of a Suave thing with the name, but no, it's Gunsmith Cats with magical werecats and banal characters. Happy Meh-uary!
TBF it was a outer space cat that could eat multiple people whole with its tentacles. Also anyone that was not born on earth seen it they were one step away from craping their pants in fear
I'm sure there's some sort of japanese mythology or urban legend about why cats are attracted to technology, but it seems like it would never be covered in only 3 episodes. If the anime had managed to do well enough to get a full season, it likely would've touched on that.
I love that this show has a cameo of the restaurant Aki's from All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku which Yuji Moriyama directed and storyboarded two episodes of. The fun implication of this is that Nuku Nuku, a show which stars a cyborg with the brain of a cat that got run over by a car, exists in a universe where ghosts of cats can take over electronics.
I swear, so many OVAs started in the middle of adapting volume 11 and just WENT with it, assuming you'd read the manga chapters for years. American distributors licensed them as if they had brand recognition. We bought them from Suncoast because they had cute girls on the cover and got 90 minutes of utter confusion. 7:34 This reminds me way too much of the backstory about "Cats" from Team America: World Police.
😅It's ok Sage. This is America in 2024. You can make all sorts of wild claims that you _know_ are false, and no one bats an eye. An honest mistake, that you immediately correct, is the height of integrity. Great video.
I actually really enjoyed Geobreeders for the exact reason that CPM licensed it. It's got decent cute girl designs for the time, has action, and it looks nicely animated. I liked the setting as well though the OVA did a horrible job of setting things up but I recall the Sequel OVA being a lot better. The opening theme was a banger too.
I haven't seen the anime, but I did read the manga on recommendation forever ago. From what I remember, it didn't expand on things too much either, but then I only was able to buy up to vol.3. It was fun enough though. Looking it up, it seems to have run up to 16 total volumes, and is said to be on "haitus" since 2009... May have to look into finding a place to read it. At least would be something else to read between OP chapters before putting it on the long-haitus shelf with Drifters.
To be fair, Shredder in the 1990 TMNT movie had a pretty nasty scar on his face because of Splinter (when he was still a small rat) but he was still a badass.
I never got around to watching Geobreeders but I did see trailers for it on other DVD's I had growing up and although I only now remember the name I will never forget the song that they used for them, not so much the words but the tune is still stuck in my head to this day.
Wonderful video as always my dude! Please remember to take plenty of breaks and take care of your health we really enjoy your videos and always look forward to your next projects!
At first I was disappointed that Sage didn't make a reference to his Dark Cat review. But then again, even remembering that the Dark Cat anime is something which exists is a punishment both cruel and unusual.
This is the kind of anime I'm surprised that I haven't seen on the shelves of my local video rental stores back in the day, because they had some odd anime choices. And had to find it by forum thread like so many others. Trouble Chocolate was one of them and I'll put Geobreeders in the same category. Past me liked them, current me laughs at them.
Huh, considering the number of people that would apparently mention this one, I'm surprised I haven't heard of it. Not that it feels like I'm missing anything, but still surprised, lol.
I really enjoy collecting abandoned anime ! This was a great video and gave me a little insight on this anime before I bought it since I couldn’t find a good trailer or other info
The General should be glad he wasn't ambushed by calicos, those are the ones to watch out for! Also...I can't tell if the werecat was being interrogated by the possibility of being in water, or seeing wasted milk. Good job, show!
The thing that I will never comprehend about Central Park Media is how they were so awful at dubbing, yet they gave us the goddamn classic that is the Record of Lodoss War OAV dub. Granted, even that had some rough bits, but it's still a dub so good some of the original creators even prefer it.
@@dwainsimmons3447 And if it didn't have such a good dub, it never would have become a classic to us over here, nor would the original creators prefer the dub.
Always good to see another Anime Abandon up. Geobreeders is one of those titles that I was aware of for years but never got to. Now I can see I didn't really miss anything. And even though you were wrong about CPM's strategy, it never hurts to bring up Gunsmith Cats, which I just recently rewatched.
Hey, I remember watching this back when Netflix had to send the DVDs in the mail (now I feel old just saying that). I had no clue what it was about or what was going on, but I thought it was hilarious. Mainly due to the fact I was seeing 90s animation that looked like OG Pokemon with Misty's voice actress for the girl with glasses, all while the tone was so absurdly different with the violence and nudity. It was like nostalgia whiplash when I saw it the first time.
oh, bennet I haven't even started watching this ep and already you're wearing your darkest hoodie with flowers shootin out your ears 0:15. Anime what hath thou done.... AGAIN?!!
"See you later!" "Yeah, why don't you come with me?!" "Because it's raining out!" I hate to admit it, and I'm not sure why it is, but I found that scene and bit of dialogue mildly kind of funny.
This looks exactly like the type of anime that people will have nostalgic fondness for because it's one of the first anime you watched. Like, you recognize it's schlock and probably wouldn't recommend or even rewatch it years later, but you just can't seem to completely cut it off either. For me, that would be Zero no Tsukaima.
I never got to see this, but it definitely looks like something I probably might have picked up at the thrift store video section that had either that, or Zenki, or Legend of Crystania.
I find it hilarious at times to see the breadth of works people have worked on. Especially in the voice work. Like, if you look into the voice actresses in a LOT of kids' anime, you'll find some surprising stuff. One of Pikachu's main artists, for example, started out as the heroine of My Fair Masseuse, as a nymphomaniac Soap Girl ("bathroom attendant" at special bathhouses that focus more on cleaning your pipes than your body). Actually, if you include eroge, I'm pretty sure at least half of all major kids' anime heroines have had a number of roles where half their lines were moans, and half of *those* were doing both at the same time.
This was the first anime I ever bought! I got this on VHS from a suncoast video store. As cringe as it is, Geobreeders is still special to me in that weird way 😂
Like most anime, the theme song is catchy as all get out. But i kept watching it because it hooked me enough that I wanted to try to make some sense of the plot. I never succeeded, though
I'd never heard of this anime before now but the core premise is oddly similar to a comedy-horror rpg I was planning to run (referencing a time when mummified cats were brought over to UK by someone thinking they would become collectors items, only for them to be used as fertiliser when no-one wanted them).
The manga book was the first manga I ever read and I thought it was awesome, then I read Masamune Shirow and Otomo’s work and then never discovered the Geobreeders anime even existed!
I liked this series, I watched it a number of times and even made an AMV with it. I didn't mind the shortcomings because I liked the characters. I don't think I ever listened to the English dub, though.

Well given how clever, ticky and at time passive aggressive cats can be, it kinda make sense.
It's because they're awful and mean and provide no services, but yet people still love them loads. Seems like magic to me
