      By and large, school-age people make up the majority of Japan's anime market, there isn't as much of an older crowd for anime (and video games) the way there is in the modern States.
      The main anime serieses I can think of having seen centering around college students would be a handful of shojo shows, plus Tatami Galaxy, Golden Time, and the PapaKiki franchise.
      Bit of a shame that's all there is, as they were all at least above-average (even if Golden Time fizzles out in the home stretch)
      I wouldn't be surprised if it was more common in the past, though. While high schoolers were always a common focus, I think the modern era of anime has seen a complete fetishization of the high school experience that's definitely been detrimental to the medium's variety. Gotta shake my head every time I see a story set in a pre-industrial fantasy setting still shoehorn in a recreation of the Japanese high school setup and its trappings.

    • @DriftedVisionMan
      @DriftedVisionMan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@InfectiousFight Agreed, the high school setting is beyond boring at this point. There is really nothing that could be done to make the setting interesting to me. Even when I was in high school, I avoided those type of anime.

      Which is weird since college seems like the best of both worlds. The main protagonist can be young enough to connect with readers while not grounded to the same Highschool plot points.

    9:52 This guy's first appearance in the anime is actually when he's seen singing for the rock band in the nightclub scene. If the dying scientist happened to know that this private detective agency guy fronted a local band, that makes his decision to go to the nightclub when mortally wounded slightly less random I suppose, even if the situation remains hopelessly contrived.

    The IMDB for this flick gives an interesting look into how the dub ended up so bad.
    There's only about a dozen credited characters, and the actors were all credited with just a first name. Only about half of those have the real people behind them been figured out. Among them, for many this was their first acting credit. Two of them went on to have decently long careers in mainstream acting, though I wouldn't call either of them successful. one of them only has 4 acting credits before apparently taking a decade out of the business and then coming back as a producer. The rest of the identified people quickly shifted to hentai, and one of those moved to live-action porn (where acting chops aren't something that is expected).

  • @Takimeko
    @Takimeko 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I can bet you that Media Blasters is around because they are the only company dubbing and releasing hentai nowadays. All the other hentai dubbing companies have either gone under or don't release new stuff anymore and just re-release their licenses over and over.
    Like legit most of the new licenses Media Blasters gets is hentai.
    On another note: I love how "PS1" this voice acting is. It's so cheesy and shitty I love it.

But during their prime, they did have some pretty big shows under their belt like Rurouni Kenshin and the original Berserk series. I like them because they certainly have what it takes to make good scriptwriting, and a nice trait they have that stands out from companies like funimation or Viz, is that they’re willing to take more risks when it comes to more risqué scenes in some anime, where as the bigger companies would avoid those shows

    There were 2.88 megabyte floppy disks, but you needed a compatible drive: both were more expensive than the 1.44 megabyte versions so fewer people had them.
    Still not enough space for those plans though.

      My wife and I were in the military in the early 2000s, and one of our launch systems ran on a program on 4 huge magnetic disks totalling 1 kilobyte. This was a forward deployed combat system with an active duty unit. You would be surprised how low tech most of our military is. Old tech is reliable and cheap.

    METAL GEAR - RUNT, created for urban warfare and smallscale rebellion suppression for use by Muammar Ghaddafi...well, if Qadhafhi was not dead. Ergo, Metal Gear Runt was left to languish until a group of renegade Japanese defense contractors stumbled on to it and decided "Eh, we can't afford a Rex's upkeep."

    @9:02 Perhaps he was trying to escape into the concert’s crowd. From there, he could’ve sought medical attention. When he realized he wasn’t going to make it, he passed the disk to whoever was nearby.

    Media Blasters is one of those Anime Publishers that I loved and supported back in the day.
    I had to look around for their stuff as they would never get published in my area of the world.
    Obscure Anime like Eiken Club or Jungle De Ikuo.
    To the more recent of the past 10 years like Queens Blade, Juden-chan and Yosuga no Sora.
    They are not around as much as they used to but I would love to see them dub Interspecies Reviewers and other Anime that Funimation rejected.

    One of the few older show's you've covered I actually saw. Though that is because I found it second hand at a used book store a few years a go while hunting for obscure older stuff rather than anything to do with the company. I remember it being enjoyable enough to watch.
    Also tend to avoid Media Blasters these days because the last new release I got from them didnt work on any of my players because of the type of dvds they use.

    In the 80s a sophisticated program WOULD have easily fit on a small floppy. So they understood the subject well. The huge files we have for games and things are because of 3d, image files, video, the need for working with much faster hardware etc...

    Animeworks titles I proudly own: Genshiken, Midori Days, Seven of Nana, Gokudo, Simoun, Green Green, Grenadier, Ladies vs Butlers, Juden Chan, Dokuro Chan, Kashimashi, Space Pirate Mito and the sequel Aoi and Mutsuki, a pair of queens.
    And then there's the ones I won't admit too...
