    So how do you know if its the valve block or accumulators? Or is it trial and error? Currently I'm seeing sagging after not driving a few days.

      More than not, it will be valve blocks, I believe. If ABC unserviced in some time, definitely makes sense to tackle both and be done. Something of a 'while you're in there' operation. Sure enough, I wound up performing the invasive surgery twice after the disappointing accumulator result. I'll pin the comment in case anyone has a scientific response...Be well.

    Thanks for doing this video. I've been on the brink of doing a coilover conversion but risking an accumulator change doesn't seem that difficult after watching this.

    Probably the best video on replacing accumulators on the SL55. Well done. Gonna order these tomorrow and replace them at some point. I'm sure I'll be referring to this video again ;)

    Excellent video! Very helpful in familiarizing me with my upcoming accumulator project.

    Omg, was watching to see how the unit is rotated out. Without context or the video to watch, just the audio from 7:02 seconds to about 7:30 is hilarious 😂

      Wow - didn't realize how much of my boudoir pillow talk had bled into my wrenching - lol!

    Along with the wonderful list of tools needed, it would be great to have the component part numbers used in the rebuild.

    I was getting ABC error messages when going over bumps and my reservoir burped and poured fluid all over the place. I went ahead and changed the two larger accumulators Today so thanks for your video. But like you , my screwdriver didn’t go all the way into the old accumulators and they looked fine so I don’t know what else it could be. The ride quality did improve after replacing these though

      After this didn't fit the bill for me, I moved on to rebuilding the valve block. Been perfect since. Are you still getting the error messages? If the ride is better, the lights gone and no multi day sinking, you may have solved it!

    Thank you for a great tutorial! This helps all us maintainance intensive SL owners out. It's nice to do DIY jobs for a few hundred dollars 💸 vice a few thousand at a shop!$$$$

    Hello, I'm following your method of removing the rear accumulator. I understand everything you did except how you opened that bracket that holds the hard piping - to the lower right of the accumulator assembly. I could not understand what you were saying and the brake rotor is blocking the camera. It is not a normal bolt that holds the bracket on. You went underneath the clamp and pried something loose? If you can explain what you did any better it would help me. Did you have to get a new bracket after finishing? maybe what you did ruined the bracket for second use?

      New wheels arrive tomorrow. Have the ABC valve block rebuilt and ready to thread in and, all being well, maybe a wrap before a thorough unveiling! Hope you're having a great Holidays!

    Was that pressure or return accumulator? Was there another smaller one in there as well? Thanks

    Hi, Let me ask the question I asked earlier a different way. You showed a 8 mm bolt (?) on that bracket you said didn't make it back on when you replaced the bracket after the job was done. What type of wrench do I use to get that bolt off in the first place? I have never seen anything like that. If I know that I think I can get the rest of the way.

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's basically an 8mm screw/washer you should find on there. It's smooth at the top and hexagonal at the base/washer end. Hit me up on Instagram @dwraysgarage and maybe we can chat, review an image of what you're staring down.

    I just bought an 08 SL550 and noticed the beep and abc light go on a few times on my drive to work. Hoping replacing the accumulator will remedy the situation. Should I change all 3? If so is it the same basic plug and play, no need to fill the accumulators with fluid but of course check the reservoir after the change. I felt a bit sick after I found out how much it costs but I have tools and can likely get it done myself. By the way, the mountains in the background look alot like the ones near where I live in Awatukee.

      Are there any clues as to whether it's front or rear? Is there any sagging if you let the car sit for a couple of days? It could be the valve block seals also - and those sets are about $60 per end. If you're ambitious, you could do it all and have the system solid for a while. The accumulators are all basically the same process - just slightly different configurations of lines around them. And, yes, be sure to keep fluid levels up with the Pentosin CHFS-11. If it's just flashing over bumps and whatnot you're not at critical stage, yet. But, you want to get ahead for sure. Best of 🤞! PS I'm in Fountain Hills so we must enjoy similar views.

      @@DWraysGarage It feels like it's just centered around the rear. It does this weird floating down the freeway, it's a floaty freeway, and sometimes I swear it feels like the rear jacks itself up a notch. I don't know what or where valve block seals are so I'll need to research that. The light only comes on real quick but I don't want to compromise the lines with too much 3,000 psi stress. I'll go ahead and replace the rear accumulator as soon as I can find the part number from FCP Euro.

      @@Wolfmots Here's my Valve block repair on the rear - th-cam.com/video/ugVPVouJ1So/w-d-xo.html. I have heard the floatiness can be attributed to the accumulator so I think you're smart to tackle that first and see if that helps. My bladder in mine turned out to be pristine which is why I went to the valve block next - and fixed my issues! HMU on DM in Insta or other if you run into any troubles. If you do tackle the valve block, be sure and take good pictures of the routings.

      @@Wolfmots you want something that can do rodeo mode on an ABC SL where you're touching suspension and fluid. Few can do it. The Foxwell NT510 I think is the one that can. I'm not sure Carly can but go for it if you know it will.

    OK, I was able to get the bolt off and the bracket is loose. Last step is to remove the grommet so the lines have the most movement and then I start maneuvering the assembly to move it on the track like you in the video. Correct?

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinda - just force the lines out of the grommet, I never removed it, and work on sliding back the guide that holds the valve setup.

    • @billtimmins1880
      @billtimmins1880 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DWraysGarage I thank you for your reply and your video. I would never be able to do this job without it. I moved the grommet around trying to remove it until I realized I never would have been able to put it back in. I think one line is out of the grommet, one is still in and the other is halfway out. I've moved the slider back far enough that I can see that it is the hoses that are doing the bending anyway. I'm not sure I'm going to completely remove the track from the rail as you did. Yes, It is more difficult to change out the accumulator but not impossible. I'll look at it again tomorrow. I suppose it would be a lot easier if the valve block was being done at the same time and the quick hose disconnect tool could be used but I'm not prepared to do that job now.
      I hope I'll be able to finish the job now without problems.

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billtimmins1880 I was able to get some help from a large flathead screwdriver to get out the hard lines from the grommet. I would be curious if you ever do go down the path of the quick disconnects - I just unhooked everything at the actual valve when I refreshed the block because some of those connectors looked like they might not be fun to pry apart and, moreover, go back together. Regardless, best of luck, you're basically there now!
