£5 GPU vs GTA V - How Low Do We Need To Go?

- GTA 5 is still one of the most popular games out there, and because of it's age it's pretty easy to run. You can even play it on a terrible, old graphics card with 16 cores. But what sort of sacrifices are necessary?

Waiting for the $6 GPU vs GTA 6 video in 2035.
Oh you can hold me to that. Just remind me at the time 😂
@@RandomGaminginHD Well will never forget buddy :)
seeing how the economy's doing, you might not even be able to buy a single piece of toothpick for $6 in 2035.
I don't know I think console maybe 2035 but the pc version is probably 2037😂.
We might get a used GT 1030 or RX 6400 for 6 dollars at that time
We're all laughing at this but this is legitimately how I played GTAV for its first few years.
I remember trying to play Borderlands 2 on an AMD HD 6450...
It was terrible.
Bro was POOR poor
I feel that 😄
Me too, with a AMD Radeon Low Profile ATI-102-C26405 (B) HD7470 1GB
Same lmao i had a horrible amd cpu with no gpu back then 💀
0:26 gotta ensure the garden be in every vid 😂 (loveley garden btw)
Haha thanks gotta show it off
@@RandomGaminginHD full garden reveal when?
The garden is a cornerstone of the channel :)
LOL!
Our boy invented a new gpu game. Limbo with graphics cards! Man i love this channel!
You truly are living up to your channel name, This is very random.
😂
the gameplay isn't exactly in hd though, let's say that
@@lowqualityvideos8091 Bro 💀💀💀 I Can't 😭
@@lowqualityvideos8091 720p IS HD though.

Thank you :)
You can push it further by disabling shadows and reflections, setting resolution to 640x480 and reducing draw distance lower than original sliders can, all in configuration file in documents. May even be 30+fps at native 640x480 with no shadows and reflections.
Ah good point. Really makes it look terrible
I know of a channel that does exactly this sometimes. You can get 30fps out of real turds of GPUs using 640x480 as a base file (via INI file), turning off shadows and reflections (also in the INI file) and last but not least, setting advanced scaling to 0.5 in game.
So 240p ultra low no shadows is doable!
@@TheSpotify95 It would be 60fps+ even on that poor 310, actually in that state it works on pretty much any DX10 GPU, even very bad intergrated ones like radeon hd 3000 or geforce 8200 (which I unfortunately had and it was so terrible it got ~30fps on these settings). I've tested this on intel G41 extreme graphics however and it crashed after intro (which worked at 1fps by the way) so I think it was more of driver-related issue.
@@mruczyslaw50 yeah I've seen 30fps on even the ATI Radeon HD3450 using the 240p resolution and disabling shadows/reflections... It's amazing as to what will run GTA 5 when you turn the settings low enough.
What if you play on the emulated version of GTA 5 such as the ps3?
The ps3 managed to run for such a old console
That's how I used to play GTA Online back in the day with my friends.
I had to disable shadows and set res at 800*600 (50% res scale too) on my 1080p monitor, to get between 14 and 32 FPS.
Then I decided to overlock my card, and it felt like magic when getting no less than 25 FPS, and up to 38.
My first PC could barely run GTA Vice City, so I had to use a piece of software called 3D Analyze to emulate having a graphics card. That way I could run The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion on 240p, not even in fullscreen.
Lucky of you guys!
during covid. i had a mate that played GTA online with us on a dell optiplex 3010. (the cpu was upgraded to a second gen i5 if i recall correctly) he couldn't afford a proper GPU so he played with a GT 610. he played on the lowest setting possible with shadows disable, also played on 800 x 600 resolution and he hovers about 45-30 fps, we had loads of fun regardless.
Trooper
had this exactly during covid but got a cheap cheap gtx 750 ti for $50 plus shipping and put a ram and ssd in it. thing was a little beast could run anything on low -med settings
That was me with fortnite until a few weeks ago lmao
Always enjoy a slightly longer video! Thanks for the great content!
That’s why I love to watch your videos, Steve! Always coming up with interesting topics for PC videos. ❤
I've been subscribed for a while, I can't WAIT till I see your subscribers hit the millions!!!
Ok i gotta say, 300p looks amazing lol. Reminds me of old school consoles, i might have to try this.
Yeah go for it lol
and if you turn display scaling off in Nvidia control panel, you can play in real 4:3 too, for the ultimate throwback haha
I had a similar thought. Old console vibes :)
It kinda looks like if someone tried to make GTA 5 look like an upscaled Gameboy Color game.
Ahhh the face behind the voice!! Absolutely love your work mate
This is the content I subscribed for ❤
The fact that this card has 16 cores and a 4090 has roughly 16,000 cores is wild.
zwormz and u are my favorite hardware youtubers
sameeee theyre my favorites!
Love this type of content the most ❤
You and Kryzzp are the best benchmarkers on this platform
how to make a pc enthusiast cry
step 1: replace their 4090 with this abomination
step 2: watch them suffer
step 3: profit
Bang on 😂
Is a 4090 the gauge for "enthusiast" now? That is more a gpu for a ned with more money than sense but an actual enthusiast would find this hilarious remembering how far we came from everything looking like minecraft being the norm to what we have now.
I am an actual enthusiast, collector and my career is in tech and I have never wasted money on something I never needed. I currently use a 7700xt and 7900GRE. Very few of us need and fewer of us would pay for a 4090. All 4090 youtubers have gained it for free to tell others they need it and those that use it for heavy workloads, write it off as a business expense. My work GPU is an A800 40gb (that is an AGC, a real work graphics card, not an overpriced home toy.) I could never use anything as low powered as a 4090 for work and would never need it to play my 1440p and 4k games that do not even support RT.
Not everyone has a 4090, I am a enthusiast for over 20 years and have forgotten more than most people know. I rarely use the top tier GPU when just p0laying a flipping game. You could replace anything with this card and get beat down.
A true Enthusiast uses a Quadro RTX 5000 Dual GPU, like i do in my engineering workstation /s
In my gaming PC, i have a 4070, because i don't want to spend more. But i'm not really a gaming enthusiast anymore, because most games nowadays are rubbish. Not all, but most are.
In recent time, i have reactivated my fat PS2 to play singleplayer and split screen games.
Uhh which "pc enthusiast" have a fkcin 4090?? I have never seen one my whole life
i really love these kind of videos
What an buttery smooth experience. And i like the new Nostalgia Slider. Absolute well spent 5 British finest. But the real question for nostalgia is .... Can it run Crysis remastered
Great video as always!
Great video. Interesting results actually. If you run emulate Gta 5 on android using Winlator, you would usually get similar if not better results than this gpu. It will be more than playable if your phone has Snapdragon 8 Gen chip. I would like to see you test some games on android if possible. I think that would be quite interesting.
Oh man, I love Kryzp and I love RGiHD (for almost 8 fricking years now), I think this new format is going to be great!
I've been subbed for about 10 years now, and even though my last graphics card was $1000 and my computer is a 4K beast, I still enjoy tinkering and to get games to run on old or lower end hardware. I have a 2013 budget laptop and I still run brand new games on it, just not the most demanding ones of course
Loved that vid. Could you do the same, but with the 1gb version?
I think back then there was Spanish youtuber that modified games to make them run on crappy hardware i forgot his name he changed his channel to more gaming documentary style . this video reminds me of his old videos // great video
LowSpecGamer! His older videos helped me massively when I was rocking a 128MB intel laptop GPU some 10 years ago.
heyy, you in my feed after so long
Wow, now I’ve got a headache. Thanks 🤣
I'd like to see this tested with older games like Unreal Tournament 2004, Doom 3, Need for Speed Most Wanted or Carbon, Half Life 2, etc. I'm curious to see how it compares to the 6800 GT I had back in those days.
I like these limbo analyses. I hope ‘How low can we go?’ becomes an ongoing miniseries 🙂
First time i played GTA V on PC was in 2015 on a 5 year old card Radeon 5670. 720p normal settings with sub 30 or around 30 fps with major stutters and textures failing to load while driving because the card was paired with then almost a decade old Q9450 CPU and 4 GB of DDR2 memory. Still managed to completed it in that state. Memories.
You unlocked some insanely caged memories with the Playstation 2!!😁😁😁😁
Have you heard of CrossFire? It's a South Korean/Chinese market CS clone which still attracts more players to this day than CS2 does. It's notoriously easy to run.
Keep this video format for future videos as well!
Is it me or does it feel very strange to see your face on camera? I’m sure we’ll get used to it tho!
Great video :)
I should probably feel blessed that I got a proper gaming rig a few years before I even became an adult. Gtx 650 ti and an i7 3770… I won’t ever forget it. Way back in 2012. Played so many games on that thing. :)
Have you ever thought about making a "backstage" video on how you prepare your HW testing video? From installing tested HW, OS, drivers, Steam client and games and then editing. It must be time consuming.
I love the way the vehicle 5:40 repairs itself as it moves lol
It feels like you're playing the game "Driv3r" GBA port. Nostalgic!
it looked like that basically yes, but ran great, it was really a fun game to play
Hey, if you happen to see this comment Random, I think it would help you a lot for your GTA benchmarks if you had a CONSISTENT modded car/cars with good handling to benchmark with, rather than a different, random civilian car. I have well over 3k hours in GTA, a lot of them spent driving, and have more than a few good car suggestions. It does matter. LOVE your work, thank you for the videos. :)
Love the frequency of uploads lately. Keep it up lad.
Back in the day I was so happy to run the game with 30fps on the lowest setting I could find, just to play with my friends
pretty sure the i7 7700k igpu is way better, scratch that, any Apu from 10yrs ago could play gta v better than that monstrosity, great content by the way
This makes me feel very grateful to be running a 970
i have an recommendation can you try the amd radeon hd 6450 BTW love you vids ^^
You should do a video comparing all the x10 Nvidia cards. 210, 310, 710 and the ghost 1010. :)
G'day Random,
When your GPU makes my Athlon 200GE IGP seem like a BEAST! which according to TechPowerUp GPU DataBase Vega 3 has about 300% performance😂
I have one of these already, it came in one of the DELL prebuilts I bought for Homeschooling my niece & nephew during Human Malware, they are basically a 210 with 69MHz OC.
Ps Yeah a smaller monitor does help a lot when using Lower Resolutions.
Be interesting to see if you could even launch Cyberpunk on it!
I had a GeForce GT 210 with 256MB of vram until I upgraded to a gtx 750TI SC and MAN did it run better. going from the game crashing on launch to 45ish FPS and being limited by my i5 2400 was kinda nice. it'd be nostalgic to rebuild that same PC someday...
lol this reminds me of when i had an integrated gpu from a 3rd gen core i7 :) i remmeber barely running gta 5 and still having fun
Of all the things I got dropped in my lap to play with - a pair of 8800GTX's on an i5-760. There is some gaming prowess right there. Oddly enough, they have the same driver support!
Though I will say - the 8800GTX can play Crysis. Totally need to see the 310 melting down trying that.
Why does it almost feel as if the integrated graphics of that CPU would somehow perform better than this GPU? It's cool to see people try to get stuff to run on the lowest spec stuff imaginable though.
I'd kind of like to see a comparison of the iGPU running this game at the same settings now, it might be fun.
4 days late but wished you bought both or just the 1gb one as they are really cheap. My eyes would've thanked you.
Its funny how I just recently assembled a computer with the HD 4850 512MB I got for 5 euros. Using that 4850 as the video adapter basically for its DVI out connector, as i7 2600 came with some medion prebuilt mobo that had no iGPU.
But man the old HD 4850 512MB can run Resident Evil 5 at 40fps at 1080p.
Nice :)
ghost orb flu behind you at 33 sec. good 1 too
For other Game recommendations: I guess League of Legends since it's still quite popular and Zomboid, because IMO it's one of the games where you can really sink your time in with very low system requirements.
I'd also like to see some of the old AMD A-Series APUs, because I struggle comparing them to dedicated GPUs.
The hd graphics of the 7700k are probably more powerful than the 310. The igpu supports newer dx versions for sure
Geforce 310 was released in 2009, but it was not a true gaming card even back then (PS3 era) , i.e. it could run some titles at low-med specs. But it had hardware vide decoding (H.264) which was important back then, as you could watch HD videos with it. As for gaming, older titles from PS2 era (up to 2005) would run fine. For example, it could run GTA IV at 800x600 at 30 FPS, which was expected performance on that console.
I'm gonna hold out for the RTX 5090ti until I upgrade from my GeForce 310, thanks for the vid
GTA5 10 fps speedrun! Go! The scaling is pretty awesome, its so flexible... I wish every game was like that. Cant run the game? Divide the resolution by 10! Playing GTA5 at 300p on a 4K HDR monitor must be something to see haha You should redo this video but with a 4090 or something. See how many frames can you get with gta5 at 300p on a 4090.
One budget option that intrigues me when I see it is the Radeon 4830. Also a 512MB GPU from 2009 but features 4x the rops/TMU for approximately 18 pounds on ebay. Seems like an extra 13 pounds would go a long, long way.
What's crazier is that you can get the legendary GeForce 8800 GT from CeX for just a quid, which is actually much faster than the GeForce 210/310.
Thanks for the heads up by the way, cause I'm thinking of buying a barebone HP Z440 or Z640 (they're quite cheap now in UK) to build myself a 16+ core workstation/server so I'll need a cheap "display card" to get it set up, now I know where to find one.
Some crazy cheap prices at CeX indeed. The postage is more than some of the cards 😂
That's a good video
💚
I recently bought an intel pentium whatever 2 cores 2 threads from 2013 on cex for 10 pence. I haven't tested it yet but I will enjoy watching it crash while opening a word document or trying to get it to run minecraft.
Funny enough that 50% scaling(basically 360p resolution) at about 20fps is legit the xbox 360 performance 😂😂😂
Damn fitting given it's 360p on an xbox 360 and i know that cuz i played it like that on my cousin's xbox 360 a few years ago.
NGL this was the first graphics card I ever had in a PC growing up. Yes its underpowered AF but this is the card that got me into pc gaming (reason I had this card was because my parents wouldn't buy a gaming PC, but this was fine as it came in a generic dell pre-built back in 2010). So in my eyes, it's alright.
And yes, I still have that PC, with a windows 7 and linux mint dual boot.
I could see that the shadows were still on, does gta let you turn them off? Having the real time shadows of the played and objects moving will chomp at fps quite a bit
I actually own a Geforce 310. Came in an old optiplex that I bought in 2020 paired with an i7 860
Recently (its still on the table) retested gta5 with a phenom 1055t and at 3.5Ghz (250x14 in a non crap board) is still doing 60fps+ most of the time, Gonna throw in a X4 shortly which will me more limited from 50-60fps I expect (its what I used to get).
Xbox one X / PS4 Pro only did 30fps at 1080p but a £20 gtx660 can run higher settings at 60fps and a £22 hd7870 is even faster, I look forward to using a £100 rtx2060super to play GTA6 at 1080p60 like people using their XSX's in 2 years from now.
My 15$ gpu plays this game with 60 fps on 1440p, it was a "broken" nitro+ rx 580 8gb that didn't started for the owner so he passed it to me. First time I used the gpu myself it had some artifacts but I switched to the other bios and now I happily have an awesome gpu to play most of my favourite games on 1440p monitor 👍👍
You have to disable ALL shadows in config file. Instant x1.5 fps, with other 'hidden' stuff - up to x2 fps.
i remember playing gtav on my 1gig 210 at 800x600 resolution in 15-20 fps and man that was a time
Could you try testing weak graphics cards on MGS V? i know the FOX engine is really well optimized
You can also disable shadows using configs and try making resolution a little more crisp
In 2012 i had no money to buy good gpu for my dual core pc, i bought geforce 210 1gb to play gta4 and other games at whatever settings, i played many games on it, it was slow but i enjoyed and completed many games on it. I had great time with geforce 210.
Same I used the GeForce 220 to play a lot of games back in like 2013-2015, I played games like Empire Earth and also I used it for emulating PS1 and PS2 games like the Crash Bandicoot series, Unity browser games like The Last: Dead Zone and Contract Wars and Flash browser games like Strike Force Heroes, Stick War and more than 100 Flash games I used to play
The Integrated Graphics of the 7700K should work just as well as, if not better than, this card...
Also, you can go into the INI and set it to 640x480 with shadowquality=0 and 1/2 scaling to get the most out of it that you can! (240p ultra low no shadows)
Even for its time the 310 was a bottom of the barrel card, be fun to test the contemporary 340 which was the more premium version.
It would be very interesting to see how it would look like plugged into a CRT after dropping the resolution to 300p or even lower.
I recon we would get at least a somewhat more pleasant experience even if that's not saying much.
Watching this type of videos on a 55" TV is fun. 😆
Oh I bet 😂
Reminds me of running fallout 3 on the integrated graphics on an HP Stream 7
Don't be picky, 10 FPS were playable. I got used to watching it in like 10 seconds, and then it was perfect smooth. And it wasn't the input lag, it was strategic planning!
I guess I would like to see what games actually run well on this ancient card.
I just bought a hd 6850 for 5 dollars in a flea market and the lil beast still kicks
I would have liked to see a comparison between this and the integrated graphics of a i7 7700 non-K.
My first gpu. I still remember being excited seeing oblivion running smoothly for the first time.
This is gonna be good
I have an ATI B771 and Rage 128 both waiting for the bin men. Now I am wondering if Doom 2 or warcraft 3 would still play on them.
this is honestly pretty decent i could play the whole game like this
looking at this im genuinely wondering if i can get away with my old 670 as i dont play the most graphically advanced games anyway... I'll have to wait until August to even collect it though
This is quite a similar experience to playing GTA V on a $99 Celeron N4020 laptop. Aside from the game taking 20 minutes to load off an external hard disk, of course.
This is one of them GPUs where if you had it back in the day you were better off doing software rendering on your CPU. Had a few of those in my time.
I dunno if moderns systems still allow you to do that, and if they do, I wouldn't know how it's done.
Basicly back in the early 2000, That my dayli Gaming experience in every Game 😅
Oh, if it's got old capacitors directly on the board with a VGA to board ribbon cable, you know it's gon b gud
My first GPU was the exact same one as that!
The last segment makes it look like a native ps1 game
I have a A10-7700K APU (spare) and even that blows this into the weeds.
Starfield allows down to 1% scale with FSR, it's mesmerizing, a true masterpiece. And somehow it's half decent at 10% scale.
I’d be curious to see a similar video using something like a 2012 Mac Mini with HD3000… I managed to play all the way through the original Lego Marvel game using one and it was sort of impressive and terrible at the same time.
