If Panasonic were to release a Lumix GX9 Mark 2, it would likely build upon the strengths of the original GX9 while incorporating modern technological advancements and responding to user feedback. Here are some speculative features and improvements that the GX9 Mark 2 might have:
    - Design
Compact and Lightweight: Maintaining the compact and lightweight design that makes it popular among street and travel photographers.
Improved Ergonomics: Enhanced grip and button layout for better handling.
Weather Sealing: Adding weather sealing to make the camera more durable in various shooting conditions.
    - Sensor and Image Quality
New Sensor: A higher-resolution sensor, possibly in the range of 24-26 megapixels, with improved dynamic range and low-light performance.
Updated Processor: A new image processor for faster performance and better noise reduction at high ISO settings.
    - Autofocus and Speed
Advanced Autofocus System: Improved autofocus with more focus points, better tracking, and faster response times. Potentially incorporating AI-driven subject recognition. Faster Burst Shooting: Increased continuous shooting speed, possibly around 10-12 frames per second.
    - Video Capabilities
4K Video: Enhanced 4K video recording capabilities with higher bitrates, more frame rate options (e.g., 4K at 60fps), and improved video autofocus.
Cine-like Color Profiles: Additional color profiles for more advanced video work, like V-Log L.
    - Viewfinder and LCD
High-Resolution EVF: An updated electronic viewfinder with higher resolution and better refresh rates for a more natural viewing experience.
Articulating Touchscreen: A fully articulating touchscreen LCD for easier composition from various angles.
    - Connectivity
Improved Wireless Features: Faster and more stable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections for easier file transfer and remote control via a smartphone app.
USB-C: A USB-C port for faster data transfer and charging.
    - Battery Life
Longer Battery Life: Improved battery efficiency, possibly with a larger battery or better power management.
    Additional Features
In-Body Image Stabilization: Enhanced in-body image stabilization (IBIS) for better handheld shooting performance.
Dual Card Slots: Inclusion of dual SD card slots for greater storage flexibility and reliability.
Enhanced Customization: More customizable buttons and settings to tailor the camera to the user’s preferences.
These speculative features and improvements would position the Lumix GX9 Mark 2 as a competitive and versatile camera in the mirrorless market, appealing to both enthusiasts and professionals looking for a compact yet powerful option.

A flip out screen would be a deal killer for me. No street photographer wants the camera to look bigger and having that thing hanging out to th side. This is supposed to be small. 😊

Mine would be like a Pen F II. Under 400g, newer and higher mp mft sensor, ibis, weather-sealed, mic jack, tilting screen, dual pixel AF, 2 scroll wheels (near shutter and thumb) and rangefinder evf. A couple more custom buttons too, that's it!

My ultimate micro four thirds camera would have all of the functionality of the latest OM System OM1 mkii but crammed into the old EM5 mkii solid magnesium chassis. I just love the build and ergonomics of my EM5 mkii! A dedicated ISO dial would be perfect!

The ultimate camera for me is less hybrid and more photography centric. More features inevitably leads to compromises and/or a too high price tag. Especially in such a small form factor.

GX9 style body, 25mp sensor. BIG viewfinder similar to the GX8 but with updated tech, weather sealing, dual card slots, mic and headphone jack, IBIS. flip up screen. I think we are aligned Grant!

The camera I’d like to see is an OM-1ii with a sensor protection shutter (for changing lenses in the field), an LCD with a hybrid tilt/swings-out design, and the ability to assign “on-off” to any button or switch (and sign the original “on-off” switch to any other function).

Here's my M43 dream: make a real pocketable M43 camera similar to Ricoh GR3X, and build a Lumix 20mm 1.7 lens in it (or get it a even better lens). BTW, great video, Grant!

E-P7 is almost perfect. Just make the screen dual-tilting (DC-S1/S1R, X-T2/3/5) and replace flash with pop-up EVF (DSC-RX100III+) and you're done. But if really big, then equip it with monochrome sensor.

All you've talked about in this video is really what I'd like but with a better menu system, like the OM-1 / mark II, built in ND & graduated filters, ability to use LUTs, small rangefinder body, EVF, metal body, full weather sealing, 24MP sensor, more in camera multiple exposure options, e.g : light, standard, dark, basically for me it has to be a stills camera with little or no video functions, and all at an affordable price.

Quite happy with my GX85 and I am looking forward to adding a G9 for more pro work (I only do photography) These two cameras cover everything for me, small and light for the street, pro body for everything else. In 5 years I can buy the G9ii for cheap! An upgrade to the GX85 would be nice, 25 mp sensor and auto focus from the G9ii. I realize the title is "ultimate" but in reality an upgrade to a GX85/GX9 would unlikely to have weather sealing and 2 card slots, those are in my mind rightfully reserved for the pro body G9ii, it allows for more affordable options for beginners etc. My only issue with Panasonic is that they have discontinued the GX85 and GX9 without providing a replacement. The GX85 kit was a great starter kit for beginners.

A weather sealed, OLED EVF GX9II is what I’m looking for. However, a flip screen would be a dealbreaker for me. The flip screen on my GX8 keeps me from using it more than I do. I’d even be happy with an essentially unchanged but weather sealed GX9. I’d be happier if it also included the new sensor and processor and better EVF, but that wouldn’t be necessary.

I think a GX9ii or PEN-Fii would make me want to buy it.
Compact and with phase detect auto focus, sexy retro camera body.
I guess the Olympus OM5 is currently the next best thing (which I don't have).
If the GX9ii also has LUT and the OpenGate, that would be amazing.

  • @Jonathan-hu3lk

I’d go for a GX 8 ii. Weather sealed, better viewfinder than gx9, range finder styled, with a back screen akin to the Fuji x-t2/3/5. I could forego a lot of the pro video features and even a dual card slot to help keep it small and help keep the costs down. It doesn’t need to be aimed towards pros, just hobbyists like me who like to take photos in all weather. Some more compact, weather sealed primes to go with it would be good too. I’m thinking a 17.5mm f1.7 weather sealed and a weather sealed 20mm f1.7 (smaller than Olympus’ weather sealed 20mm f1.4) with quicker AF than the current 20mm ii

  • @laurentyarp514
    @laurentyarp514 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Mostly agree with your specs (except for the 2 SD card slots).
To me, the decisive factores are: weather sealing, good EVF, front and top back dial (for exposure compensation). Plus would be: range finder style, tilting EVF like the GX9, tiling LCD, microphone jack. The rest I leave it to Panasonic :)
btw You said that a black GX9 is preferrable to a silver one. I have a silver GX9 and when I see yours, I find it more Leica like. Next time I will take the black for sure.

My ultimate would be an OM-5 mark ii, with the TruePic X processor, Auto Subject yDetection AF, OM-1 autofocus, USB-C, same button layout as OM-5, 5.7 Meg OLED EVF and a very bright high res 4 Meg OLED display. In camera support for HEIF format as well a JPEG. Both audio in and out. Slo-Mo 480p at FHD with autofocus.

A decent follow up for the GX8…name it GX9 Mk ll or GX10, I don’t care.
Small, lightweight, weather sealed with a evf (tiltable), the ne mft sensor and af, usb chargeable. Pixels are enough to me with 20MP…
But i only take photos with my cam, no video to me personally…

GX8 mk2 body, same batteries as the g9ii, ibis, weather sealing, at least 1/250 flash sync speed (those last 2 killed the gx9/gx7iii for me), DR boost for long exposure, kitted with a 20/1.7 V3 with a new AF motor.

  • @NPJensen
    @NPJensen หลายเดือนก่อน +2

My ultimate MFT camera would be a compact OM-Systems camera with access to the free OM Workspace AI noise reduction software for their RAW files.
Definitely a range finder style camera with as good high ISO performance as possible, but not so compact, I couldn't use the 75mm f1.8 lens from Olympus with it.
For now I use an Olympus E-M5 iii and a Panasonic GX8, but the more concerts I shoot in small, crowded, dark venues, the less I use my GX8 - I get better results with my E-M5 iii in that specific environment.
I'd like to have the rear screen from the GH7 and the grip and (an updated version of) the EVF from the GX8. Other than that, I'll take what ever improvements they can come up with.
Realistically though, I'll save up for a second hand Olympus E-M1 iii and live with the less compact size.

  • @philby1
    @philby1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree with most of what you want apart from the screen. Much prefer the flip up down ones myself. Unless they can make it do both. I would also like a better evf. A larger one would be good even if it has to stick up a bit from the body.

I really think it depends on how many cameras you have. If I could only have one it would be a GX9 style camera that it is mainly photography focused with an EVF, flip up screen, mediocre 4K60 video but still noticeablely lighter and more compact than a G9ii.
I'm someone with 2 setups that will include a big hybrid camera like the GH7 AND also want something as small as possible like the GM5 for casual, yet professional quality photos only. Realistically it would be quite difficult to fit IBIS in a GM footprint along with mechanical shutter (which would be a must for me). But I'd be totally happy with a minimal spec'd tiny camera based on a GM5, as long as it had the 25MP sensor with PDAF.

First ,,I just subscribed.. been watching your channel for about a month now. Well,, as long as we're dreaming big and wishing on Stars.. here's my list...
I would start with a GX-8 body because I like the beefier grip... That also makes room for the (mandatory) new sensor and up-to-date stabilization. I also don't think you can get GX-8 weatherproofing in a gx9 body. Having front and back dials is also a nice thing... And room for a LUT control button too. I wouldn't mind retaining the eye level swiveling viewfinder.. but I could live without it. A built-in flash that could also serve as a wireless remote flash trigger wouldn't hurt my feelings either.. but again not a deal-breaker. What was the deal-breaker for me with the gx9 was not having a microphone input.. so that would be required and I would appreciate a full-size HDMI but I do understand that there is not unlimited real estate on a compact body. And while we're dreaming, I think it would be cool to have a much more PEN F aesthetic looking body.. Come on Panasonic .. I know we can't have everything but can't we have most things?? My biggest fear is that we will get an S9 body.. and feature set with the MFT sensor.

As near as I could tell Grant, the audio sounded very good. Using a shotgun mic is a good choice as opposed to something like a cardioid mic for audio. I didn’t hear any distortions coming through at all. As for my ideal M4/3 camera I own what I consider a very close approximation to the ultimate M4/3 camera already, the LUMIX DMC-GX8. Because my requirements are more geared to photography, while video isn’t really a priority for my ideal camera body. Sure, a larger sensor would be nice, but the 20 megapixel sensor & when adding a high end lens such as a Leica Summilux completes my outfit. Though I agree that having dual card slots would make an ideal camera body, there’s nothing worse than losing a day’s shoot because of a bad SD card or camera malfunction. Love your videos Grant.

My ideal camera is a GX8 mark 2, a little bit bigger than the GX9, a flip out screen, a good stabe for stills and videos, no crop with 4K. I don't need two card slots as a hobbyist. SD-card are very cheap, I can get a 128 GB card for 20 €. So I can use on a trip on each day a different card. I agree with the specs you mentioned of the GH7: larger sensor, phase detect.

I would love the imaging system from the G9II in the GX8 body size, but you then say you want all the buttons, you want a thumb wheel on the back, better screen with flip out..... Just how small do you want these buttons to be? There is only so much room on a small body.

I agree that a G9 II cramped into a GX9 body would be great, but that means problems unless you do these:
To avoid heat and battery life as well as weight issues, cut out the fancy movie making as well as the birding/wildlife/sports related features. Very basic FHD video and 8 FPS speed are fine. That would also help to keep the cost down, so that it will sell a whole lot, thereby achieving a lower price, say, at $1500. No flip-out screen!

I just picked up a GX9 2 hours ago to see if IBIS and a viewfinder is worth the extra size and weight compared to my dinky little GX880 which is my every day carry around.
To me the GX880 (same as the GX800/GX850) is almost the perfect camera for travelling and street photography - it's surprisingly overlooked compared to the popularity of the GM1/GM5 but it's only a tadge bigger, has better dynamic range and a 180 degree flip screen, L Monochrome, and most of the features on the GX9 including focus bracketing, 4K photoshoot etc.
So my perfect camera would probably be a sub-400gm camera not much larger than the GX800, with some sort of IBIS squeezed into it and a GM5 viewfinder - probably asking too much!

I have very similar requirements - small (A7C/S9/GX9 like body), not entry level but rather advanced (4:2:2, 10 bit color, at least 4K @ 60fps, ProCapture mode, ~ 20fps shooting speed, mechanical and electronic shutter), with high resolution EVF and excellent weather sealing is a must . Cost $1,100 - $1,500. Together with it should come second edition of now weather sealed Panasonic/Olympus f/1.7 and f/1.8 tiny primes.

Similar, but we gotta be realistic how much a camera like that is going to cost if it arrived. The G95 is msrp $999. The G9ii is around $1600 on permasale. If Lumix reused their 20mp sensor because theyr're still trying to use it up, it would be $1000 or more, yet a limited improvement over the GX9. If the G9ii sensor, figure add $200. So ... is there a market for a rangefinder that's compact like the gx9 gx85, but costs $1200? $1300? (USD here, sorry). I'm not sure shoppers are ready for a Lumix lineup that's uniformly over $1000, lumix could barely move the LX100ii at that price point :P

  • @jeffslade1892
    @jeffslade1892 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You can keep weather sealing, it's not really worth the paper it is written on. It's for fanbois. The grease on the seals dries up after a few years, the grease attracts and traps dust. Lack of weather sealing has never been an issue in the foulest weather.
A stills camera needs a tilt screen. The PEN-F would have been perfect with a tilt monitor. And a better positioned eyecup, or actually having an eyecup. Having a thing sticking out of the side doesn't work when trying to take a photo at waist level. If you want to shoot video in a cage, HDMI to a field monitor, sorted.
Mic-in and headphone out, yes, maybe bluetooth to cans? Monitoring audio feed is vital, as is an external mic. Why have mic inputs disappeared, even the E-PL7 could take a mic-in on the SEMA-1. The E-M5ii has mic and headphone on the extra grip (shame it can't shoot movie for toffee).
All alloy body. They're heavier but have a bling factor and better haptics, they feel nicer, plastic feels cheap and nasty.
If you're going fast SD card you want UHS-II V90 and 300MB/s but note, read the specs of your camera, most cannot handle more than 128GB (NB). So 256GB is a waste of milk, and money. There is a file-block size jump at 64GB, the most space efficient SD is 64GB. I've never managed to fill a single 64GB with stills in a day, video yes but not stills; hundreds and hundreds of photos (most of them rubbish).
    Have fun

I am surprised that you do not suggest a Lumix gx8 mark2. The gx8 already has some of the features you favor. In some respects the gx9 is a downgrade of the gx8. And, the g9 mk2 is large and clunky and slow with lower build quality. The same decisions that led from the gx8 to the gx9 and g9 mk2 would likely lead to a gx9 mk2 with substantial compromises. Starting from the gx8 would sidestep several of the compromises that plague the g9 products.

I'd love to see camera manufacturers offer "a la carte" custom options for cameras. So, there would be a base option in various forms, e.g. full frame, micro four thirds, APS-C, etc. Then you add on options you like, e.g. optical viewfinder, option for interchangeable lenses, custom tilt screen, BSI sensor. There you go! What if you could tack on a la carte options? Can you imagine a custom camera?

I forgot to say, I would like the GPS connection of the GX9 to my ultimate MFT cam and a better and more reliable software (image app) on my phone.

Hey Grant, thanks for the video. At this moment, I think OM5 ticks most of the boxes, what do you think about it?

nooooooo you lost me at more megapixels the better. hahaha on an mft sensor, 25 is sorta equivalent to cropping in 2x on a 100mp full frame sensor. which currently is already very difficult to find lying around hahah.

Thinking about the question: meanwhile to say, I thought the sound was pretty good. Nice job with a shotgun in an untreated room!

The thing to say with shotguns is they are neat at subtracting environmental sounds. The challenge is if your voice is reflecting from the walls or say off the glass of a computer screen, the microphone knocks that out of the sound out too, making the voice sound a bit muddy at points. But still all good, really!

Let me know in the comments? What would be your dream M43 Camera 📷…

Despite it being small, it's still similar to Fuji XE3-4 & Sony A7C size. I prefer GM5 size for M43 and I wish there was a new version of that.

Your ultimate ultimate spec overlaps a lot with the G9ii & GH7. So that'd be its price range.
I think a GX update could be happier in the range with one card slot and some of the software options like pre burst missing and priced for first time camera buyers. Waterproofing would extend the appeal without threatening S5 sales. Build on a grip and use the S5 batteries too.
Maybe a rear design like Fuji X200 to have a larger screen. Make it bright in sunshine and one could lose the evf 😱

It's time for Panasonic to make a pure photo dedicated camera. full of specs BUT only for photographers. with LESS than 1000 euros or dollars. Its time for US the great world pf pure photographers to own our photo camera and NOT video one. Lets ommit any useless and pricey video specs that many pure photographers will never use. I trust Panasonic. I love Panasonic . I own 8!!! Lumix cameras and i am more than happy . But, i understand that Panasonic is a video oriented company and will never produce such a camera. Sometimes i feel sad beacuse althouh i love so much Panasonic, i also hate anything that has to do with video. For me, the pure art is only stills. ( ive ordered the GH7 of course!!!)

@@overnightdelivery you re so miserable! You don't know what emotion means. Do you know what does love, what does fanatism, what does impeccable love for a brand, for a team, for a person, for a thing mean in life? First, who told you that GH7 is not an AWESOME photo camera as well? Probably the various toxic haters out there. And second, it is a Panasonic camera. In fact, the best. Even you have given me for FREE 10 Sony cameras for example, I would deny them and should have bought again my beloved brand. OK now? 😁

@@MrJapanforce No hate here. I'm getting a GH7. Just thought it was funny when you said you hated video but GH7 is very video oriented. But it is a great camera for photos too. 👍
