Eight F-35As to be part of the RSAF's Fighter Fleet

- #SGBudget2024: MINDEF will acquire 8 F-35As adding to the previously announced 12 F-35Bs. Steady defence spending allowed this calculated decision, including the mid-life upgrade of the F16s before they are progressively drawn down from mid-2030s onwards and replaced by the F-35s.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force’s future fighter aircraft fleet comprising of F-35As, F-35Bs and F-15SGs, will be capable of performing the full suite of missions required to defend Singapore’s skies.

By observation, given aircraft shopping is not 'impulse window shopping' of some general(s) in RSAF, then A is to be based locally for near shore strike, B for the purported min-carrier JMMS, for off shore strike

It just a matter of time. The A model is more capable yet cheaper.
@@grozaphynot so. They have different purposes and advantages and disadvantages. B can takeoff Short and land vertical but has less range due to lower fuel capacity and lesser payload. The A has better range and payload as it doesn’t have to have space taken up by the internal fan.

F-35 is replacing F-16. Since 2 sqns of F-16 are in TAB, most likely they will go there. F-15SG can go to CAB.

Kudos it is a cost-effective way to lock-in American strategic patronage but quite ineffective to keep the loyalty of Singaporeans screwing up across national boundaries !

Not a mistake unless you don't know the meaning of variants ....
@bennysamuelkoh9463 you choose your variant during the selection process. Matching your requirements with threat assessment. Singapore cannot afford large numbers of different variants. Having 2 variants will impact logistics/maintenance requirements that will increase the challenges face by the air force. Moreover, it is not ideal for singapore to have a ship borne F-35B capability. Very expensive to buy and upkeep F-35.
F-35A only cost US$82.5 million. That's cheap.@@syq8888

IAF have modified the A models to carry more than double the amount of fuel to existing configuration. They can fly more than twice the distance as compared with the original version. Means it can fly to Tehran and return journey
