Thanks for this video. I purchased the Goggles X and GM3 for the purpose of having a clean setup with no adapters, so I was very disappointed to learn that it wouldn't work from this video. I reached out to the dealer I bought both items from after learning this from your video and they replied with the following: "Someone has lied to you. The caddx GM gimbal line was created specifically for use with the Goggles X and goggles L. The gimbal was integrated into the system before it was ever produced. The goggles were made with this in mind (hence the built in headtracker). They have also provided the headtracker upgrade for free as well (9axis vs 6axis) with the expansion module (it also provides VRX support) The Walksnail GM gimbal system is natively compatible with the Goggles X and goggles L. Going forward, please try to get product information from the product manufacturer, rather than internet hearsay. When in doubt, go straight to the horses mouth." Does the GM3 work at all with no adapter on the Goggles X? Going from your video, I would say no, but their reply makes it seem like it should?
Super Vieeo Ian👍 I got my Goggles X from Aliexpress, I hope i get the Box. And yes Im very interested in a DIY solution for integrating this box in the goggles
Ian, isn`t it possible to desolder just gyro module from that terrible box and install it inside old Googles X? Desoldering those module with desoldering station doesn`t look complicated...
Caddex has come a long way, that’s for sure, in fact to a point that I am finally thinking about trying them out(I’m a DJI guy). That being said, I have always thought that the Goggles X is butt ugly, and that is only multiplyed buy this ridiculous unsightly solution. The only option for me is the Goggles L, not only for the price, but it’s the only version with an actual “finished product” form factor. Great vid as always…thx Ian
Kinda upset with Caddx FPV. The reason is that I have the upgrade module that I got from Raceday Quads same place I did buy the goggles x. I still can not use the upgrade module cause they did not ship the audio cable 5 pole to 4 pole with the module it is a extra $4.99 + Shipping which I think should have been included with the module kit. Thanks for letting me vent .
To add to the point about being "only pass-through analog signal", this new module allows things like Foxeer Wildfire to work now. Without this module, my WildFire module never worked.
At this price point, it has apps, analog inputs, and head tracking. I personally think it’s a great deal. It already has a lot more than DJI. I hope Caddx can maintain their original intention and continue to improve, although I still hate encountering problems when using it. Yes, better integrated analog solution needed.
This is straight up the module offered by the gimbal OEM with Caddx firmware. What they should be doing is offering the internal board to GX owners at no cost. I for one will be taking the module and utilizing the pwm output through the radio link so can have headtracking while using my ground station.
Again a very informative video. Thanks for that. I've purchased the module for free. Just had to pay shipping costs. But I've didn't bought the Googles X from Caddx or a local dealer. I've bought them from private. I've contacted the Caddx support, told them where I've bought mine and they've send it to me. Very nice move from Caddx and very customer friendly! But I'll really prefer a internal solution. So I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the internal head tracker with the board from the external module. I just see 12 soldering pads and if they are pin compatible this would be a possible solution for me.
I had the new version for 2 days until they blacked out. Had to send them to drone racer fpv. Will eventuelly get a new pair. Head tracking was indeed available in menu.
My dealer hasn’t gotten back with me in over a week I think I’ll be stuck paying for the damn thing. Thanks caddx. At this point I think I’ll go with dji at least it works some of the time 😂
I just received the newer Goggles with the head tracker built in. But now it sucks because I was looking forward to get the module for analog. That would be great if you can come up with something to mount analog
Hi Ian @MadRC, you mentioned in one of your replies to another comment, that the "new" version of goggles has changes in the power input board and front pcb. How will this turn out in the upgrade ability of future mainboards on the older goggles? I would love to see a video about an "internal" solution for this. I was thinkin about this thing:6389989 but this only covers the analog module. Also what would be great was a way to activate it via the goggles menu and not a "giant" switch. I thought about using the led colour and when changing to blue (like the display of most analog modules), a transistor turns on the module. I'm looking forward to another video on this module. Until then, stay safe and happy flying/crafting
Hello Ian 😁 question for ya. I have integra goggles and 03 air units. I just ordered the C-20T gimbel from Amazon. $140. Will this connect to the head tracking on my goggles or do i need the $70 head tracking and base kit that goes with the gimbel. Thanks for all the top notch info 😁 helping me blow my hard earned $$ 🤣🤣😁
Wonder if Caddx will do a Exchange program, letting people send in their goggles for replacement with the updated versions? If the new board is the same pin-out as the old, can owners remove the old one in the goggles and solder in the new version?
To add to the list of things that don't work about Avatar, don't forget that sharing/audience mode doesn't work again with the latest firmware either. I can't believe there's still people out there that stick up for Caddx when they seem determined to prove them wrong for doing that. Let's not even talk about the grass-smearing issues that plague the system...
Any idea if, or when, Caddx will issue a Goggles X firmware update that implements screen zoom? I, and many others, cannot see the edges or corner of the screen.
I'm not a Caddx fan boy but I'm guessing the gimbals weren't being developed when the designing the goggles X, so why develop a HT for a thing that doesn't exist? I currently use the vrx with skyzones head tracker and use PWM. I'd love to add that board instead of have a aux cable out my goggles to my radio.
Today, I got my new goggles Avatar X, and I checked that the new moduld into, it is color black, and it's comes with an update for the head tracker. I have installed news antenns, I'll check it and see what the story is with the goggles
I feel like they put the module where the leds are it would be increadibly front heavy since its already chonky. Would have been nice if it was built into a new top cover but i guess plastic molds aint cheap
It's not a seperate board in the old goggle. The X does not have it separately. They simply added the gyro to the main PCB on the original. Now they have reworked 3 of the boards and added this PCB to the power board.
Ok so my googles were bought a few weeks ago. They had the latest firmware and the headtracking isnt grayed out. So I don't need the module for tracking??🎉 did i hear that right?
If new goggles X do to they could have offered an internal guts upgrade to advanced users… maybe? I’d like to see a teardown of the new goggles with it to spot the difference.
It's located on the power Input board. It also has meant they have had to rework the IO board and the front PCB as well. It's just to much to change for a user and would cost caddx a fortune.
@RickLaBanca i agree, and I think if you remove the fan on the side then you would have enough room for the analog module and wire it internally and then make a 3d printed top cover with 2 fans
They advertised the head tracker, so they should recall it or replace the “upgradeable module”. But since it is Chinese company consumer has no protection. Pay premium in western standards for overpriced Chinese product.
Analogue input has some level of adjustment. Just use the 5-pos button to adjust brightness and contrast.
Definitely interested in seeing you come out with a way to make it more integrated that would be sweet even if it's just the head tracker piece
Yes, please make a video of integrating the ht module internally. Caddx won’t sell me the newer boards to upgrade the goggles myself
Im definitely interested in a better integrated analog solution! Thanks for the info 🤝

I'm definitely interested in how to integrated HeadTracking into the goggles. Make the video about it, pretty please.
The cable also shipped with the replacement heatsinks for the original units that did not come with it.
Yes, I would like to intergate the head tracking upgrade board. Thanks for all you do for us.
At this point i cant tell anymore wich company is most fucked up, dji, frsky or caddx....
Ian, isn`t it possible to desolder just gyro module from that terrible box and install it inside old Googles X? Desoldering those module with desoldering station doesn`t look complicated...
already got my module in the mail, great to have a tutorial video to go over it all
Thanks for all the info, Ian! 😊
But yeah, it does not look like a good solution...
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hell yeah about integrating!! I'd probably not do it, but I'd be hella interested in how to do it!

I don't get why they don't just release the board and just let us replace the board instead

Hey buddy , when is the video on setup of the radax zero for open ipc 😊
Ouch! I felt that sting all the way across the pond.
I'm thinking of removing the 9-axis board from the external module and replacing it with the goggles' 6-axis one. It would be awesome if you do that!
Got mine from the dealer I bought the googles X. Just paid for shipping.

Banggood. They won’t provide me with the extension unit. They say I need to get it from the dealer… the loop continues.

They are really serious with sticking it on to the goggles with doublesided tape? Its no joke 😂
Ian. Do you know if there is a chip that can be changed to unbind an avata?
mike at hobbyrc is still yet to get any from them and he said he doesn't think his getting many. been waiting since they announced it
Holy cable octopus!
Are they going to provide a different analog solution for the new goggles that have head tracking built in?
Hello Ian 😁 question for ya. I have integra goggles and 03 air units. I just ordered the C-20T gimbel from Amazon. $140. Great video Ian.
Question: do you need the 3.5 4pole to 5pole for the headtracking? Or is that for the analog only?
It's for both as the HT communicates via the cable.
To say they rushed this out into the market is an understatement!
What a bloody mess caddx!
Thanks

replacement top cover, perhaps another fan
👋 did they fix the fake snow issue on analog input?

Hi from Ukraine ! What model analog module you connect to Walksnail Goggle X Extension Board ?
Does the original module work using the PWM route via the radio TRS?
Would head tracking be used on FPV, guess i don't understand its importance, maybe on crawlers or airplanes?
I feel like they put the module where the leds are it would be increadibly front heavy since its already chonky. Would have been nice if it was built into a new top cover but i guess plastic molds aint cheap
Is the non-working head tracker board in the "old" goggles replaceable with the one in the module? Guess not.
It's not a seperate board in the old goggle. The X does not have it separately. They simply added the gyro to the main PCB on the original. Now they have reworked 3 of the boards and added this PCB to the power board.
@@MadRC Clear! Thanks Ian!
Can you clarify. If the Head tracking menu and options are enabled, the goggles will work with the gimbal?
Yes.
@@MadRC Thanks
Integrated headtracking would be great.
Correction: versions after 37.42.7 should be able to set brightness/contrast with the joystick
Yea forgot about that.
Ok so my googles were bought a few weeks ago. They had the latest firmware and the headtracking isnt grayed out. So I don't need the module for tracking??🎉 did i hear that right?
Correct. On the back of the box it will probably have a sticker as well
@@MadRC awesome I have the sticker. Is manual control of yaw and pitch possible over uart? My T2 vtol only has 1 available servo port.
Anyone know where to purchase the upgrade board?
If they only had thought of adding a modified goggle top cover to the module that it could fit under. Or add a mounting rail to the cover...
Hmmm idk who would buy that, all I know is that wont be in my arsenal 😂
I would think the market for head tracking would be really small. I don't get why everyone is fussing about this subject.
Caddx sounds like a politician 😅
Do it!!!
If new goggles X do to they could have offered an internal guts upgrade to advanced users… maybe?

No wonder its so hard get into FPV.
NOTHING WORKS!
News Googles 3 dji unit o3??
Analog was a waste if no dvr.
lol…what a shit show. So glad they came out with the vrx. My SkyZone 03O with the vrx, built in analog module, and HT is much cleaner looking.
When they were teasing the GogglesX I was very much hoping for a collab with Skyzone. Would have been mutually beneficial.
@@JPspinFPV I thought the same too.
