Basik looks almost like a motor yacht rather than a sail cat. It even looks fast without her mast. And a little longer video than usual. I enjoyed it a lot.
Linh, do you remember the "thickened epoxy" system you had? You should revisit that with the exception of a shot whenever you heard thickened epoxy, you take a shot whenever.
No doubt about it, Ms. Ema is learning so much about that lifestyle. She is one talented kid.. Sorry to see Lynh banged up, yeah she is a hands on crewmember!!! Bet it really did kill her o just stand-by. Never did say, but I hope all 3 of you were able to successfully complete your project before that dalouge of a rain storm came in.. Not sure how far back this was, but hope all of you had a safe holiday. Maybe you were able to get back to SEA/IAH, for some family time.. 👪 GREAT production for 2024. Keep it rolling in 2025. Ep. 325 wow, what a journey.. The Caribbean is great Jan/May.. you'll love it. Sure Beau & Brandy have told you the spots to go, and set up for hurricane season 2025.. Safe travels..
I remember watching little Emma help her Dad pull wires when they were setting up Basik in Seattle and now she's all grown up helping pull the mast like a Mighty Sailing Lass when her littler (than her) Mum is hors de combat.
I was thinking I hope you got a bucket or something over the mast step before it rains and then next scene it's bucketing down, hope you didn't get too much water in where the mast electrics connect up 🤞
Ha! I wish the weather was predictable this year. It has been raining consistently since May of 2024 and has not let up. We need the dry season to come ASAP. 🤪
@@linhgobenyt I am with you! Growing up in Panama it was a given. Last day of school in December meant the start of summer and dry season. Now even my mom used to tell me in disbelieve "look at this crazy weather, it is raining in January". The weather is 🙃 lol Hoping for better weather for you guys and a speedy healing of your ankle. 🙏
So sorry Linh, take care of yourself and rest, heal and be happy. Great job on mast pull out. Emma is a big help. Take time for yourself Linh. God bless 🐻
Teal, you're so fortunate to have such a partner and trooper in Linh! Get well soon, Linh! Teal and Emma have got you covered. You four are a great team. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year! Cheers! From Olympia Washington!
I will never argue that I'm the luckiest Captain ever. It's nice that Emma is more than capable, but when Linh goes down, we all have big shoes to fill. Even though she has the tiniest little feet. 😉
Sleek looking cat, now without the mast. Nice project while you’re giving your cruiser a good tuneup. We hope that you have a fast recovery and the swelling goes down quickly. Dad’s time to be the iron chef now.
Happy New Year everyone 🎊! Hope Linh heals quickly. Curious question: watching the mast come off, and the wiring get pulled up…why didn’t you attach a”fish”wire to more easily feed the wiring back down? Or maybe it’s easier than it looked for you. Just 🤔. Stay safe y’all ⛵️🇺🇸
Plenty of rest and zice Linh, don't get ambitious! Ice n rest.Teal you are the luckiest sailor! A wife that is badass, a daughter who is the same, y'all are blessed ❤❤❤❤
I hope the ankle heals well. It looks like a grade 2 sprain, so should be better in a few weeks. Movement helps the healing, so keep moving it within pain free limitation. Please tell about the name of your boat. Is there a Vietnamese connection?

That is another reason we wanted to pull the mast. The wire chase was undersized and leaked during heavy rain. We didn't put a messenger in because that will all be reengineered and rebuilt.
It felt both slow and fast at the same time! I was heading to the laundromat with 3 loads of washed laundry to dry because it was so wet out. I managed to save our clothes, but not myself or my cellphone. 😢😢

Get well soon Linh, great work even though you had to take the back seat this time, Emma and Teal stepped up and got it sorted. plenty to do now to keep you all busy. Have we a chance of some Thickened Apoxy Linh .😉

Linh after Teal was ill you did most of the work so put your feet up sorry about the way that happened but well deserved. Plus let Emma do the cooking.
I know, but it kills me to not be able to help out in these situations. This was a huge thing for us to experience together and learn more about our boat. I'm just so happy Teal, Emma and our crew were able to pull it off without a hitch. 😊
Interesting. After watching many of your videos there was no mention of draft or daggerboards. It was in the specs on your showing the Featherlight 43 pages, and also on your web page. I would think that a 2' draft is significant in getting you into shallow anchorages? I don't remember the videos of haulouts... does your boat actually have fixed shoal draft keels? It seems to be the only build of the Jace Hobbs Featherlight 43... :)
Happy new year to you all. ❤❤ I've been wondering how that would all work. Landlubber question of the day. Does the mast extend inside the boat or bolt to a frame at the skin of the boat?
Some boats are deck stepped (mounted to the deck, with compression bracing to carry the load), and others are keel stepped (extend through the boat and are mounted on top of the keel).
I was amazed but the age of Basik regarding its condition, obviously very well maitained. And the design was so advance in modernty for the time (including interior). Definitely a great nice cat you're lucky to own and sail (and live). (interested by having the exact reference, and to know if there are others around!, many thanks). All the best for the ankle damage, unfortunately probably a bit longer than fixing tha ast. I do hope that does not hinder too much the kitchen talent ;-) Cheers and good vibes.
We purchased basik 15 years ago and have poured thousands of hours into her. If you watch our early videos you can watch the transformation as we grind her down to bare hulls and do an extensive refit that spanned nearly a decade. We left Seattle 6 years ago and have continued her refit as we travel.
Boat looks so funny without a mast. ...Ha, ha, ha... Teal tells Emma to take off the radar, and he will just watch... Right? ...Like a dad is going to miss the chance to get his hands dirty with his daughter!?!?!?
Well, i won't ask how many margaritas she had before the slip. As I have never seen her hurt herself. That is usually something that happens to well you know who.

Sorry Linh about your ankle.... Speedy recovery.. Observation Emma needs to not ware those large earings while working around the boat ....We had a friend that caught her earings and ripped them out .. R.I.C.E treatment: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation please do this Linh. 🇦🇺😭Big hugs for Compass 🤗
Unfortunately the R.I.C.E protocol is a myth. Resting while wrapping an injury tightly with ice doesn’t speed healing.
