I love how the character philosophy behind Soi Fong is essencially "certain death". Her shikai is a straight up 2 hit kill, elegant and Quick. But if that's not enough to best her enemies, then her zanpakutou just goes "fuck it, you're not surviving this one" mode, and turns into a tatical nuke.
Many people trash talk her bankai for “having no connection to her shikai” when really it couldn’t be more obvious that it’s a straight up upgrade. Her shikai kills in two hits. Her bankai kills in one.
@@Y_YXwell yes and no, there isn't any technical connection but the reason for that is because the shikai is like your outward personality, what you show to other people. The bankai is a deep introspection and your inner self which in soi fons case she keeps hidden and unrevealed as she doesn't like that part of herself, the one that doesn't fit in with everything she wants to be and everything she looks up to. But yea if you wanna pull an ooga booga I guess you're right they are both on hit kills
@@343JustMe I thought the connection is that her shikai is an insect stinger and the bankai is making a connection as a stinger missile. Mangaka do love silly word jokes after all. But it's also a pretty spot on reflection of her as a person, she tries to come off as calm, cool, and collected which her shiki is excellent at representing. And then the bankai is a reflection of all her contained rage, but because she tries to ignore it that's why she's kinda bad at incorporating it well in a fight.
Fun fact: Kubo’s original idea for Bleach was called Snipe, where shinigamis use guns instead of katanas. However, it was scrapped for Bleach today. Some say that Starrk is a remnant of the scrapped idea.
Rukia was also supposed to be the main character, using a scythe while all other Shinigamis were using guns because she was the last one doing things "the ancient way".

Soifon's Bankai says something rather interesting about her. On the surface, it takes the 'death in two strikes' aspect and makes it death in one strike, for anyone in the blast zone, in most cases. But it also shows a part of her she rather dislikes, the part that's loud and rash.
That incredible characterization of her is why she's my favorite captain Part of me wants to go extremely in depth on her character but I'll leave that till the end of the fight.
@Ry9022 bankai actually says alot about people if its similar or an evolution of their shikai then that person is true to themselves and if they hide who they really are or keep secrets thier banksi is the opposite of shikai. And if they and their zanpakutou get along they are happy with themselves and who they are and vice versa
I remember reading someone say in a comment section(don't remember in which video) something along the lines of your Shikai being your outer self, how you present yourself to others, and your bankai being your inner self, something more true to how you are as a person. I found that to be very interesting, and it perfectly fits Soifon, but I didn't dwell too much on it to think if it fit other characters
That and how much she's a fan girl. She's Uber oppressive of herself. She's had to take over after Yoruichi left, she's been trained since birth she doesn't matter and all that matters is her protecting Yoruichi, she leads basically the assassination and discipline squad; there's a lot of pressure of she should be cold and ruthless and to kill off her emotions. And that swells deep inside her which causes all sorts of anger and rage she probably isn't dealing with. Which will eventually explode.
Yes, you know it's gotten bad when a cold assassin, who herself has delivered death, is in panic mode and orders her subordinate to slice her limb off lest she die as well. Her release is reflecting her explosive temper that also contradicts her assasin's status.
I *REALLY* love that the captain and lieutenant of the squad in charge of espionage and assassinations have some of the loudest and most impatient personalities
If you ask me, Starrk being #1 despite what Baraggan is capable of says more about Starrk then it does about Baraggan. Keeping things simple, but I think that there is a bit of a power gap between Baraggan and Harribel than there is between Harribel and Ulquiorra (not saying that Harribel is weak, mind you). Baraggan is _very_ strong, but I like the idea that despite that, when it comes to sheer power output, Starrk is just on another level. Despite being a lazy pacifist, he was still *the* strongest Hollow in Hueco Mundo. He was just a prodigy that was built different, in many ways like Kenpachi and Aizen himself. Anyway, that's just my Starrk fanboy side talking.
Kubo has confirmed that Starrk had been an arrancar before even splitting up, meaning he was WAY too powerful before to a point that even Aizen acknowledged that it would have been very dangerous to try to recruit Starrk on his original form/before splitting his soul. As Szayelapollo used to be a higher rank Espada as well before splitting himself from his brother, tho this might’ve been a different case for Starrk.
@@Timjer92spoilers for Agamotto All I gotta say is comparing the way Aizen interacted with Starrk compared to Barragan says a lot about he perceives them. With Barragan he was confident and boastful saying that he can create a kingdom and telling Barragan to serve him meanwhile with Starrk he has a cautious cold look on his face even when Starrk complements his strength Aizen just says "who knows?" And just says he's looking for friends rather than asking Starrk to serve him.
Harribel's fight had a few nuances that are kinda difficult to pickup on. You mentioned how Harribel was telling Yamamoto that he's next well later on in the fight Toshiro picks up on the fact that Harribel was fighting strangely realizing that Harribel like him was waiting for the moisture to gather in the air so she can fight Yamamoto herself which is why Toshiro apologized on the fact that she couldn't avenge her Fraccione as he made use of the moisture first to freeze Harribel. Btw people think Wonderweiss was the one that freed her from the ice but that's definitely not the case considering no glass on buildings shattered, no one was covering their ears and most importantly Starrk wasn't worried about her. Barragan wasnt helped by him either.
@@iforgor2647 Oh it definitely wouldn't lmao but considering Wonderweiss was up and about after she broke free he would've probably given her a chance by sealing Yamamoto's flames (or at least distracted him enough for Aizen to easily win without any wounds)
@@Honest_Mids_Masher yeah, thats a good point, but the explosion when Wonderweiss died brought Yama close to death, so Harribel would just be obliterated if she was nearby, as Yama's priority would absolutely be killing Wonderweiss to regain Ryujin Jakka.
Hallibel has a canon anime-only flashback episode later down the road that fleshes out her character even more. It really delves deeper into her aspect of death and her reasoning for joining Aizen. You definitely shouldn't miss it.
At this point you may start seeing the pattern, cause Soi Fon is a prime example of it. I'm not going to say it flat out, cause realizing it on your own is absurdly rewarding as much as it is difficult to see. But here goes a hint anyway (Cause most people probably need it... like me): Soi Fon is an assassin, quiet and deadly, but if you look into her past and how she acts around Yoruichi, she tends to be quite energetic, explosive even. Ichigo tries to appear as strong, reliable guy, but he is actually a quiet and simple guy with a dark past which is holding him back. Ikkaku likes to be seen as this skilled and resourseful warrior, but is actually kinda lazy and takes time to get heated up.
Lastly for Starrk and Shunsui I gotta mention to go back to how Shunsui reacted upon learning Starrk was no.1 there's definitely something off with that expression In terms of these chapters however Starrk and Lilinette are indeed the same person just split apart so really with Shunsui and Ukitake it's still a 1v2 lmao. Starrk's solitude aspect of death and how it represents his character makes him my favorite of the Espada also due to the many sayings like "it's lonely at the top" and "1 is the loneliest number" and it's further shown with his wolflike clothing in his release. Lastly you didn't mention this but I'm sure you've noticed just how intelligent Starrk has proven himself in figuring out Shunsui being a dual wielding fighter but also figuring out in such a short time Ukitakes Shikai to it's full abilities and it's weakness.
Your analysis of Starrk and Lilynette (and Barragan actually lol) is really interesting. Very curious to see what you make of some of the later chapters
for Wonderweiss, the second half of his name is prounounced "vice" since it's a german word, and in german, Ws usually take the V sound, so just try to imagine it as "Wonder- Vice", also I believe the stories of Espadas 1-3 are around the corner(I think Harribel's was anime only for a single ep) so a lot of good details about them all is ready to be seen.
Harribel being Sacrifice is represented by her Fracciones who after sacrificing their arms summmon Ayon who is quite powerful. I believe Nelliel also represents Sacrifice but could be wrong

Barragan has the most terrifying ability, no doubt 💀 Starrk is the quintessence of a hollow, he stands out for his own reasons, you'll see 🐺 Harribel would have been cooked in no time if going against Yamamoto, that said, keep watching the anime too as her flashback is anime original 🦈
It's important to remember that zanpakuto are meant to be representations of their wielders on some level. Soi Fon's bazooka may seem odd for the Commander of the Stealth Force, but, when you consider who she is as a person rather than her position... Well, it fits. On a similar note, there is a reason why Shunsui's zanpakuto manifest as two separate swords. In his case, it's a little more complex than most, but the point remains that our guy has an element of duality to him that we've only glimpsed to this point. Identity (and the contrast within it) is one of Kubo's key themes for the series. The surface is only that.
FINALLY, I can speak on the one video from months ago: When you talked about Dordonhi, you mentioned how he sacrifices himself for Ichigo, and forces Ichigo to sacrifice his reservations and softness in order to win. That's because Dordonhi's Espada 103--the former Espada of Sacrifice. :)
One theory about the ranking of the espada is that the numbers are essentially close to meaningless and that Aizen just used them as a way to control and create a hierarchy within his top hollows. This has been made more relevant by his answers on klub outside that make it clear that other elements than strength is taken into consideration, like the aspects for example which always habe the same number. With that in mind Barragan could be second simply because Aizen wanted to keep him in his place and show that he wasn’t king anymore and therefore couldn’t get 1st. There are other aspects like that. Starrk just wanting friends, but being put as number 1, where everyone envy’s him, or Noitora, who hates being below a women, immediately getting a new women above him once he got rid of the first. It’s just a way to make sense of the numbering which unfortunately does become a bit of a mess when you try to take into account everything presented.
Yo, I just want to point out that there is a slight mistranslation when Ukitake talk about Shunsui's bankai: its not that it shoudn't be seen by his friends, it that it shoudn't be used close to his friends (without spoiler his bankai does not discriminate) Love your reaction to one of my favorite manga serie. A lot of people disliked soifon’s bankai (soifon included lol) but people miss the point, I think soifon has one of the best thematically bankais in the series. Soifon’s shikai does reflect her fairly well she is the quick strike type and she idolizes yuroichi, adores her wants to be her/be with her, but a zanpakuto isn’t your wants and desires it’s not a means to your goals. Bankai is a reflection of you. Soifon is a hothead, impulsive, angry. You could say she has an explosive temper, you could call her “short fused” the series has many people who are displeased with their zanpakuto, but zanpakutos (rarely) ever lie.
Soifon's dzampakto represents her very well. While her shikai is fitting her in the way she acts and make herself look like, her bankai represents her true self, which she is hiding behind all her coldness - a really emotional and explosive hot-headed girl
I think Zommari's Intoxication into his powers and how he abuses them and believes to be so above other hollows. And YES Barragan Resurrection is the best one of them all. The anime and the OST elevates it even more.
LETS GO MY GOAT BARAGGAN WITH THE ONE OF THE COLDEST DESIGNS IN BLEACH! (i'll keep editing this comment as i watch the video) I think everyone was converted at least for a split second when they first saw barragan's ressurection into a fanboy it must be his true ability I highly recommend looking into the bleach light novels such as Can't Fear Your Own World etc, since they do hold a good bit of past info on characters that don't get fully explored in the anime/manga. The aspects of death were on point i do agree with that except for Zommari i really just don't see how intoxication or ecstacy connect with him all that much as a matter of fact this video was the first time i've heard of at least some possible connection being made between him and his aspect of death i think a lot of this just stems from the fact that he's just a really really underdeveloped espada member, i love bleach it's my fav anime but i will have to say Zommari was quite the fumble (Not as bad as the Yammy reveal most of us are still in denial from that) he was just always kinda there really i liked his design but he didn't really go beyond that, i don't have an issue with his ressurection design either though i wish it's function would have expanded on his whole speed schtick but ay the series is full of wonderful writing so the negatives can tend to just get drowned out anyway. That giant hollow who came out of the garganta to blow out the fire is weird. Pretty sure it's name is Hooler. But more importantly, my guess is, that it is some twisted experiment where Aizen forced a bunch of mindless gillian together to see what happens. Basically an inverted Adjucas?
Omaeda being a bit of a fool with a brutish appearance kind of fits actually if you ask me. While he does not have the typical look of a squad 2 member, he is able to get in your head with his antics which can make it easy to underestimate him. Plus the very fact he does not look like a spy or assassin could make it easy enough for him to gather intel and this is exactly how some ninja spies would have looked in the past. Just unassuming folk who are blending in and look nothing like how we would perceive a secret agent. He is by no means my favourite lieutenant but I think conceptually his character is brilliant from this perspective and we do see him pull off some deception even in this arc which was nice.
I don't know if you've noticed this, but an issue I and many others have with the top 3 Espada fight is, for some reason, they feel underwhelming when they release. Harribel was dominating Bankai Toshiro when she was merely in base form, then when she released, the fight somehow became evenly matched?? Barragan was already easily overwhelming Soi Fon, and it felt like there was no change anyways. Stark at least felt stronger because he almost immediately forced Shunsui to use Bankai, but even so, it felt like not much changed because he already had the upper hand in most of the fight earlier. Like take earlier Espada for example: Nnoitra was no match for Kenpachi, but the moment he released, he could easily overwhelm him for most of the fight and brought him to the brink of death a couple times. Grimmjow in his base form was easily overpowered by Ichigo with his mask, but after releasing, he was able to fight equally with him. Ulquiorra also shows a massive jump in power. We get nothing like this from the top 3 and it's quite ridiculous. It was like when Harribel used her transformation, she accidentally hit the "nerf all remaining Espada within the vicinity" button. I feel like Harribel should've defeated Toshiro in one hit like what was initially suggested, and then battled Yamamoto only to be defeated after a fierce skirmish. It would help establish how powerful the top 3 are, that the weakest of them could square up against the strongest soul reaper there and provide a challenge.

Nah. One had a court of weaker hollows to rule over. The other was so strong that no one was strong enough to be around them at all. Kubo even released statements recently that Aizen was afraid of Stark.

Curiosity, the translation of Baragam's resurrectiom's name literally means arrogant, which suits his character a lot, and Stark's name is called los lobos, which also suits him a lot, both literally and emotionally.
I think it's worth noting how so far byakuya, mayuri, komamura, Hitsugaya and soifon all felt the need to use their bankai, granted Mayuri you could say was just playing around, komamura used it to kill a fracción (tho you could say he's 100% correct none of that "I'm measuring your strength first" dumb ass bs) and soifon got hard countered, while others like Yamamoto, shunsui, etc etc. are not immediately releasing their bankai (aside from circumstances from the real world like the author wanting to space out reveals for pacing sake or possibly even not knowing what somebody's bankai may be yet), what could each of their reason be, that they don't feel intimidated? that their bankai is super specific and can only be used the third tuesday of the month but only if the moon is full that day and they drank a glass of milk in the morning? That their bankai is just bad like the several stands in jojo that just trap you or straight up kill you? or if it's something that they have to worry about friendly fire, like even if soifon's rocket launcher was dead silent and the explosions were invisible she still couldn't use it on a stealth mission because ideally you just want to kill the target/s and no one else, she kinda needs a battlefield like the one she's in, big empty areas where she can hit just who she inteds to hit Like no shade (and I hate to do this AGAIN to my boy) but Hitsugaya had to go full bankai against number 3 and shunsui mostly alone was not quite handling Stark's ass but it's impressive what he can do with just a shikai, and let's not even talk about Yamamoto but he's allowed to be that much stronger
yeah Barragan is one of the most iconic designs on this arc, and this arc had a lot of cool designs, the fight between him and Soifon is actually really interesting, but things are just going to keep escalating
You didn't mention how fitting the name is by which Barragan summons his powers: Respira, breathe, the final breath as it is taken by someone on their deathbed (particularly if they die of old age).
Kubo revealed harribels hollow hole is located at her womb. With her aspect of death being sacrifice, we can assume harribel, when she was a human once, died during childbirth
(no spoilers) Stark and Lylinette are not a completely special case, though we never really get a solid explanation even later on in the story when Zanpaktou are further looked at and expanded upon. However, we have seen something extremely similar happen before..... with Zanpaktou during Bankai training. The Zanpaktou is at its base a separate entity. It can be pulled into the real world separated from the Shinigami, such as what Renji and Ichigo both did when they were training for Bankai. Bankai training requires the Zanpaktou spirit to be materialized into the real world and forced to submit, or something like that, for a Shinigami to obtain the ability to access Bankai. Stark just took that to the next level. They are technically 2 separate entities, who are also one being. So what Lylinette actually is can't be clearly defined, especially without spoilers. But what has been established based on what has been said up to this point is fairly clear, though ambiguous. She Is and yet Isn't Stark, She Is and yet Isn't the guns. She is her own being but also is a part of Stark. Arrancar Zanpaktou also work a bit differently than Shinigami ones, so we can't fully apply Shinigami zanpaktou logic to her either. Its best described as that She is the guns, but has a Human form, and she is a piece of Starks soul, presumably taking with it only portion of Starks personality.

Remember that someone having overwhelmingly more spiritual pressure than you can straight up ignore your abilities, yes barrigans power is terrifying, but someone like starrk or aizen, have so much spiritual pressure, that they could kinda just tank the effects of respira, it's also the captains they are fighting, soi fon is one of if not the weakest captains, while the 2 starrk is fighting, shunsui and ukitake, are 2 of the strongest. People tend to think it's insane that starrk is above barrigan once they see their powers but, people forget the importance of just raw levels of reitsu

Barragan being number one is something many fans still say cuz of what you've witnessed so far as well as some future stuff of the arc Can't really say anything yet cuz of spoilers but once you finish bleach I recommend MrTommo2304 who goes into deep detail in Bleach lore

There's a pretty popular theory that the Espada are not actually ranked based on strength alone, and that Aizen just told them that to mislead them. There's a real possibility that Aizen gave Barragon the number 2 spot just to humiliate him.
No. That is a bad theory by Barragan fans who ignore what we are shown. One of them literally was so strong he could not be around the other weaker hollows while the other surrounded himself with a court of weaker hollows to rule over. Barragan is objectively below Stark in strength. Kubo also released information recently backing up Stark's strength.
i realy like your analytical way of explaning bleach and what you saw, feel and learned from this series but just one advice when you get to TYBW watch and read at the same time the anime and manga complete one another and is a kinda must if you want to understand everything the arc have
Yeah, there definitely seems to be a BIG jump between Starrk and Barragan compared to the others (Ulquiorra's uncertain. No one really knows for sure how strong he's supposed to be in relation to the others, since Segunda Etapa makes his ranking unreliable.) Respira DOES have limits, but it's still one of the most broken abilities in the series conceptually. You could argue it's the most powerful one out of the Espada, although Starrk is above him in the rankings for a good reason, and his is pretty damn broken too, despite being less obviously intimidating.
Starrk fought 4 captains (2 being former captains) at the same time, it was insane. Also Ukitake REALLY didn’t want Shunsui to use his bankai at this point, which ages like gold.
This is from outside manga material but Nel, the previous 3 and Luppi the walmart 6 have the same aspects of death as Harribel and Grimmjow being sacrifice and destruction respectively. Nobody knows if this means that the numbers are decided by the aspect of death or if is just Kubo being poetic.
Stark is not Stark. His aspect of death is loneliness, he was so powerful but so lonely that he split himself in two to always have company. Like Ulquiorra Stark is a naturally born arrancar and his reatsui leve is so high that he was the last espada to get recruited because Aizen was not confident approaching him before he left the Soul Society Lilinette is Stark too, together they are Stark. His power is to split pieces of his soul into anything he wants
I don't know if it's canon or just a fan interpretation, but I heard/read somewhere that Aizen made Barragan the second Espada specifically to anger him and in doing so make a point. That point being that regardless of his former status (he was the King of Hueco Mundo and Las Noches was his castle), no matter what decisions Aizen makes Barragan is in no position to defy him. So Barragan is the second Espada and he has to accept that because if he was in any position to contest it then Aizen would be dead and Barragan would be back on top.
Barragan is objectively weaker than Stark and Kubo released information recently backing up Stark's anomalous strength. Barragan is number 2 and the number is fully accurate.
I won't feel ashamed to call Yammy above Halibel because of what I saw from her.😒 She wouldn't survive for long if Kenpachi and Byakuya both were fighting against her.
It really is more of Yammy getting between Kenny and Byakuya, not really them fighting him. While I do believe Yammy in his release has the most Reshi of all the Espada, his use of even standard techniques has always been pretty poor, and I think he would lose in a 1v1 fight against any of the top 4. Ichigo really only gets tagged because of his emotional state at the time.
Ive seen it be used for powerscaling other anime too. Like OPM vs Barragan (or really any OP MC). Its just hard to fight a cloud that insta-kills via aging

I love how the character philosophy behind Soi Fong is essencially "certain death".
Her shikai is a straight up 2 hit kill, elegant and Quick. But if that's not enough to best her enemies, then her zanpakutou just goes "fuck it, you're not surviving this one" mode, and turns into a tatical nuke.
Many people trash talk her bankai for “having no connection to her shikai” when really it couldn’t be more obvious that it’s a straight up upgrade.
Her shikai kills in two hits.

@@Y_YXwell yes and no, there isn't any technical connection but the reason for that is because the shikai is like your outward personality, what you show to other people.
The bankai is a deep introspection and your inner self which in soi fons case she keeps hidden and unrevealed as she doesn't like that part of herself, the one that doesn't fit in with everything she wants to be and everything she looks up to.

But it's also a pretty spot on reflection of her as a person, she tries to come off as calm, cool, and collected which her shiki is excellent at representing. And then the bankai is a reflection of all her contained rage, but because she tries to ignore it that's why she's kinda bad at incorporating it well in a fight.
Fun fact: Kubo’s original idea for Bleach was called Snipe, where shinigamis use guns instead of katanas. However, it was scrapped for Bleach today.
Some say that Starrk is a remnant of the scrapped idea.
Rukia was also supposed to be the main character, using a scythe while all other Shinigamis were using guns because she was the last one doing things "the ancient way".

Soifon's Bankai says something rather interesting about her. On the surface, it takes the 'death in two strikes' aspect and makes it death in one strike, for anyone in the blast zone, in most cases. But it also shows a part of her she rather dislikes, the part that's loud and rash.
That incredible characterization of her is why she's my favorite captain
Part of me wants to go extremely in depth on her character but I'll leave that till the end of the fight.
Bankai and Shikai are reflections of the shinigami's inner soul and how they try to present themselves, after all!
@Ry9022 bankai actually says alot about people if its similar or an evolution of their shikai then that person is true to themselves and if they hide who they really are or keep secrets thier banksi is the opposite of shikai. And if they and their zanpakutou get along they are happy with themselves and who they are and vice versa
I remember reading someone say in a comment section(don't remember in which video) something along the lines of your Shikai being your outer self, how you present yourself to others, and your bankai being your inner self, something more true to how you are as a person.
I found that to be very interesting, and it perfectly fits Soifon, but I didn't dwell too much on it to think if it fit other characters
That and how much she's a fan girl. She's Uber oppressive of herself. She's had to take over after Yoruichi left, she's been trained since birth she doesn't matter and all that matters is her protecting Yoruichi, she leads basically the assassination and discipline squad; there's a lot of pressure of she should be cold and ruthless and to kill off her emotions. And that swells deep inside her which causes all sorts of anger and rage she probably isn't dealing with. Which will eventually explode.
Yes, you know it's gotten bad when a cold assassin, who herself has delivered death, is in panic mode and orders her subordinate to slice her limb off lest she die as well. Her release is reflecting her explosive temper that also contradicts her assasin's status.
I *REALLY* love that the captain and lieutenant of the squad in charge of espionage and assassinations have some of the loudest and most impatient personalities

Especially when chapters prior, she'd talked big about how Omaeda shouldn't try and save her.
If you ask me, Starrk being #1 despite what Baraggan is capable of says more about Starrk then it does about Baraggan. Keeping things simple, but I think that there is a bit of a power gap between Baraggan and Harribel than there is between Harribel and Ulquiorra (not saying that Harribel is weak, mind you). Baraggan is _very_ strong, but I like the idea that despite that, when it comes to sheer power output, Starrk is just on another level. Despite being a lazy pacifist, he was still *the* strongest Hollow in Hueco Mundo. He was just a prodigy that was built different, in many ways like Kenpachi and Aizen himself.
Anyway, that's just my Starrk fanboy side talking.
Yeah I think Starrk does work as #1, but it requires backstory that Agamotto hasn't read yet so I don't want to discuss it yet.
Kubo has confirmed that Starrk had been an arrancar before even splitting up, meaning he was WAY too powerful before to a point that even Aizen acknowledged that it would have been very dangerous to try to recruit Starrk on his original form/before splitting his soul. As Szayelapollo used to be a higher rank Espada as well before splitting himself from his brother, tho this might’ve been a different case for Starrk.

All I gotta say is comparing the way Aizen interacted with Starrk compared to Barragan says a lot about he perceives them. With Barragan he was confident and boastful saying that he can create a kingdom and telling Barragan to serve him meanwhile with Starrk he has a cautious cold look on his face even when Starrk complements his strength Aizen just says "who knows?" And just says he's looking for friends rather than asking Starrk to serve him.

Harribel's fight had a few nuances that are kinda difficult to pickup on. You mentioned how Harribel was telling Yamamoto that he's next well later on in the fight Toshiro picks up on the fact that Harribel was fighting strangely realizing that Harribel like him was waiting for the moisture to gather in the air so she can fight Yamamoto herself which is why Toshiro apologized on the fact that she couldn't avenge her Fraccione as he made use of the moisture first to freeze Harribel.
Btw people think Wonderweiss was the one that freed her from the ice but that's definitely not the case considering no glass on buildings shattered, no one was covering their ears and most importantly Starrk wasn't worried about her. Barragan wasnt helped by him either.

Hallibel has a canon anime-only flashback episode later down the road that fleshes out her character even more. It really delves deeper into her aspect of death and her reasoning for joining Aizen. You definitely shouldn't miss it.

At this point you may start seeing the pattern, cause Soi Fon is a prime example of it. I'm not going to say it flat out, cause realizing it on your own is absurdly rewarding as much as it is difficult to see. But here goes a hint anyway (Cause most people probably need it... like me):
Soi Fon is an assassin, quiet and deadly, but if you look into her past and how she acts around Yoruichi, she tends to be quite energetic, explosive even.
Ichigo tries to appear as strong, reliable guy, but he is actually a quiet and simple guy with a dark past which is holding him back.
Ikkaku likes to be seen as this skilled and resourseful warrior, but is actually kinda lazy and takes time to get heated up.
I always saw Soifon's bankai as a full century of repressed rage for Yoruichi ditching her without even a text

In terms of these chapters however Starrk and Lilinette are indeed the same person just split apart so really with Shunsui and Ukitake it's still a 1v2 lmao. Starrk's solitude aspect of death and how it represents his character makes him my favorite of the Espada also due to the many sayings like "it's lonely at the top" and "1 is the loneliest number" and it's further shown with his wolflike clothing in his release. Lastly you didn't mention this but I'm sure you've noticed just how intelligent Starrk has proven himself in figuring out Shunsui being a dual wielding fighter but also figuring out in such a short time Ukitakes Shikai to it's full abilities and it's weakness.

for Wonderweiss, the second half of his name is prounounced "vice" since it's a german word, and in german, Ws usually take the V sound, so just try to imagine it as "Wonder- Vice", also I believe the stories of Espadas 1-3 are around the corner(I think Harribel's was anime only for a single ep) so a lot of good details about them all is ready to be seen.
Harribel being Sacrifice is represented by her Fracciones who after sacrificing their arms summmon Ayon who is quite powerful.

That two-page spread of Baraggan's true form is easily one of my favorite in Bleach. It's so simple, but it looks so damn cool.

Did you know espada number 8 used to be Espada number 0 but separated his power by splitting and creating his brother that Renji offed.
It's important to remember that zanpakuto are meant to be representations of their wielders on some level.
Soi Fon's bazooka may seem odd for the Commander of the Stealth Force, but, when you consider who she is as a person rather than her position... Well, it fits.
On a similar note, there is a reason why Shunsui's zanpakuto manifest as two separate swords. In his case, it's a little more complex than most, but the point remains that our guy has an element of duality to him that we've only glimpsed to this point.
Identity (and the contrast within it) is one of Kubo's key themes for the series. The surface is only that.
There's Harribel's backstory in the anime that explains a bit about her aspect of death.
FINALLY, I can speak on the one video from months ago:
When you talked about Dordonhi, you mentioned how he sacrifices himself for Ichigo, and forces Ichigo to sacrifice his reservations and softness in order to win. That's because Dordonhi's Espada 103--the former Espada of Sacrifice.

One theory about the ranking of the espada is that the numbers are essentially close to meaningless and that Aizen just used them as a way to control and create a hierarchy within his top hollows. This has been made more relevant by his answers on klub outside that make it clear that other elements than strength is taken into consideration, like the aspects for example which always habe the same number.
With that in mind Barragan could be second simply because Aizen wanted to keep him in his place and show that he wasn’t king anymore and therefore couldn’t get 1st. There are other aspects like that. Starrk just wanting friends, but being put as number 1, where everyone envy’s him, or Noitora, who hates being below a women, immediately getting a new women above him once he got rid of the first.
It’s just a way to make sense of the numbering which unfortunately does become a bit of a mess when you try to take into account everything presented.
Wonderweiss scream in the anime along with soundtrack strings starting playing was an absolute chills to this day.
Yo, I just want to point out that there is a slight mistranslation when Ukitake talk about Shunsui's bankai: its not that it shoudn't be seen by his friends, it that it shoudn't be used close to his friends (without spoiler his bankai does not discriminate)

A lot of people disliked soifon’s bankai (soifon included lol) but people miss the point, I think soifon has one of the best thematically bankais in the series. Soifon’s shikai does reflect her fairly well she is the quick strike type and she idolizes yuroichi, adores her wants to be her/be with her, but a zanpakuto isn’t your wants and desires it’s not a means to your goals. Bankai is a reflection of you. Soifon is a hothead, impulsive, angry. You could say she has an explosive temper, you could call her “short fused” the series has many people who are displeased with their zanpakuto, but zanpakutos (rarely) ever lie.

I highly recommend looking into the bleach light novels such as Can't Fear Your Own World etc, since they do hold a good bit of past info on characters that don't get fully explored in the anime/manga.
The aspects of death were on point i do agree with that except for Zommari i really just don't see how intoxication or ecstacy connect with him all that much as a matter of fact this video was the first time i've heard of at least some possible connection being made between him and his aspect of death i think a lot of this just stems from the fact that he's just a really really underdeveloped espada member, i love bleach it's my fav anime but i will have to say Zommari was quite the fumble (Not as bad as the Yammy reveal most of us are still in denial from that) he was just always kinda there really i liked his design but he didn't really go beyond that, i don't have an issue with his ressurection design either though i wish it's function would have expanded on his whole speed schtick but ay the series is full of wonderful writing so the negatives can tend to just get drowned out anyway.

That giant hollow who came out of the garganta to blow out the fire is weird. Pretty sure it's name is Hooler. But more importantly, my guess is, that it is some twisted experiment where Aizen forced a bunch of mindless gillian together to see what happens. Basically an inverted Adjucas?
Omaeda being a bit of a fool with a brutish appearance kind of fits actually if you ask me. While he does not have the typical look of a squad 2 member, he is able to get in your head with his antics which can make it easy to underestimate him. Plus the very fact he does not look like a spy or assassin could make it easy enough for him to gather intel and this is exactly how some ninja spies would have looked in the past. Just unassuming folk who are blending in and look nothing like how we would perceive a secret agent.
He is by no means my favourite lieutenant but I think conceptually his character is brilliant from this perspective and we do see him pull off some deception even in this arc which was nice.
I don't know if you've noticed this, but an issue I and many others have with the top 3 Espada fight is, for some reason, they feel underwhelming when they release. Harribel was dominating Bankai Toshiro when she was merely in base form, then when she released, the fight somehow became evenly matched?? Barragan was already easily overwhelming Soi Fon, and it felt like there was no change anyways. Stark at least felt stronger because he almost immediately forced Shunsui to use Bankai, but even so, it felt like not much changed because he already had the upper hand in most of the fight earlier.
Like take earlier Espada for example: Nnoitra was no match for Kenpachi, but the moment he released, he could easily overwhelm him for most of the fight and brought him to the brink of death a couple times. Grimmjow in his base form was easily overpowered by Ichigo with his mask, but after releasing, he was able to fight equally with him. Ulquiorra also shows a massive jump in power. We get nothing like this from the top 3 and it's quite ridiculous. It was like when Harribel used her transformation, she accidentally hit the "nerf all remaining Espada within the vicinity" button.
I feel like Harribel should've defeated Toshiro in one hit like what was initially suggested, and then battled Yamamoto only to be defeated after a fierce skirmish. It would help establish how powerful the top 3 are, that the weakest of them could square up against the strongest soul reaper there and provide a challenge.
Zommari is Intoxication is based on him being “intoxicated” in his devotion to Aizen. He is a zealot.

Nah. One had a court of weaker hollows to rule over. The other was so strong that no one was strong enough to be around them at all.
Kubo even released statements recently that Aizen was afraid of Stark.

Curiosity, the translation of Baragam's resurrectiom's name literally means arrogant, which suits his character a lot, and Stark's name is called los lobos, which also suits him a lot, both literally and emotionally.

I think it's worth noting how so far byakuya, mayuri, komamura, Hitsugaya and soifon all felt the need to use their bankai, granted Mayuri you could say was just playing around, komamura used it to kill a fracción (tho you could say he's 100% correct none of that "I'm measuring your strength first" dumb ass bs) and soifon got hard countered, while others like Yamamoto, shunsui, etc etc. are not immediately releasing their bankai (aside from circumstances from the real world like the author wanting to space out reveals for pacing sake or possibly even not knowing what somebody's bankai may be yet), what could each of their reason be, that they don't feel intimidated? that their bankai is super specific and can only be used the third tuesday of the month but only if the moon is full that day and they drank a glass of milk in the morning? That their bankai is just bad like the several stands in jojo that just trap you or straight up kill you? or if it's something that they have to worry about friendly fire, like even if soifon's rocket launcher was dead silent and the explosions were invisible she still couldn't use it on a stealth mission because ideally you just want to kill the target/s and no one else, she kinda needs a battlefield like the one she's in, big empty areas where she can hit just who she inteds to hit
Like no shade (and I hate to do this AGAIN to my boy) but Hitsugaya had to go full bankai against number 3 and shunsui mostly alone was not quite handling Stark's ass but it's impressive what he can do with just a shikai, and let's not even talk about Yamamoto but he's allowed to be that much stronger

yeah Barragan is one of the most iconic designs on this arc, and this arc had a lot of cool designs, the fight between him and Soifon is actually really interesting, but things are just going to keep escalating

You didn't mention how fitting the name is by which Barragan summons his powers: Respira, breathe, the final breath as it is taken by someone on their deathbed (particularly if they die of old age).
Kubo revealed harribels hollow hole is located at her womb. With her aspect of death being sacrifice, we can assume harribel, when she was a human once, died during childbirth
(no spoilers) Stark and Lylinette are not a completely special case, though we never really get a solid explanation even later on in the story when Zanpaktou are further looked at and expanded upon. However, we have seen something extremely similar happen before..... with Zanpaktou during Bankai training. The Zanpaktou is at its base a separate entity. It can be pulled into the real world separated from the Shinigami, such as what Renji and Ichigo both did when they were training for Bankai. Bankai training requires the Zanpaktou spirit to be materialized into the real world and forced to submit, or something like that, for a Shinigami to obtain the ability to access Bankai. Stark just took that to the next level. They are technically 2 separate entities, who are also one being.
So what Lylinette actually is can't be clearly defined, especially without spoilers. But what has been established based on what has been said up to this point is fairly clear, though ambiguous. She Is and yet Isn't Stark, She Is and yet Isn't the guns. She is her own being but also is a part of Stark. Arrancar Zanpaktou also work a bit differently than Shinigami ones, so we can't fully apply Shinigami zanpaktou logic to her either. Its best described as that She is the guns, but has a Human form, and she is a piece of Starks soul, presumably taking with it only portion of Starks personality.

Remember that someone having overwhelmingly more spiritual pressure than you can straight up ignore your abilities, yes barrigans power is terrifying, but someone like starrk or aizen, have so much spiritual pressure, that they could kinda just tank the effects of respira, it's also the captains they are fighting, soi fon is one of if not the weakest captains, while the 2 starrk is fighting, shunsui and ukitake, are 2 of the strongest. People tend to think it's insane that starrk is above barrigan once they see their powers but, people forget the importance of just raw levels of reitsu

He was meant to be a red herring and people still deny that. Kubo's latest answer further proves just how much of an anomaly and a mystery Starrk's very existence is.
There's a pretty popular theory that the Espada are not actually ranked based on strength alone, and that Aizen just told them that to mislead them. There's a real possibility that Aizen gave Barragon the number 2 spot just to humiliate him.
No. That is a bad theory by Barragan fans who ignore what we are shown. One of them literally was so strong he could not be around the other weaker hollows while the other surrounded himself with a court of weaker hollows to rule over. Barragan is objectively below Stark in strength.
Kubo also released information recently backing up Stark's strength.

Yeah, there definitely seems to be a BIG jump between Starrk and Barragan compared to the others (Ulquiorra's uncertain. No one really knows for sure how strong he's supposed to be in relation to the others, since Segunda Etapa makes his ranking unreliable.)
Respira DOES have limits, but it's still one of the most broken abilities in the series conceptually. You could argue it's the most powerful one out of the Espada, although Starrk is above him in the rankings for a good reason, and his is pretty damn broken too, despite being less obviously intimidating.
Starrk fought 4 captains (2 being former captains) at the same time, it was insane.
Also Ukitake REALLY didn’t want Shunsui to use his bankai at this point, which ages like gold.

This is from outside manga material but Nel, the previous 3 and Luppi the walmart 6 have the same aspects of death as Harribel and Grimmjow being sacrifice and destruction respectively. Nobody knows if this means that the numbers are decided by the aspect of death or if is just Kubo being poetic.
Stark is not Stark. His aspect of death is loneliness, he was so powerful but so lonely that he split himself in two to always have company. Like Ulquiorra Stark is a naturally born arrancar and his reatsui leve is so high that he was the last espada to get recruited because Aizen was not confident approaching him before he left the Soul Society
Lilinette is Stark too, together they are Stark. His power is to split pieces of his soul into anything he wants
I don't know if it's canon or just a fan interpretation, but I heard/read somewhere that Aizen made Barragan the second Espada specifically to anger him and in doing so make a point. That point being that regardless of his former status (he was the King of Hueco Mundo and Las Noches was his castle), no matter what decisions Aizen makes Barragan is in no position to defy him. So Barragan is the second Espada and he has to accept that because if he was in any position to contest it then Aizen would be dead and Barragan would be back on top.
Barragan is objectively weaker than Stark and Kubo released information recently backing up Stark's anomalous strength. Barragan is number 2 and the number is fully accurate.

It really is more of Yammy getting between Kenny and Byakuya, not really them fighting him. While I do believe Yammy in his release has the most Reshi of all the Espada, his use of even standard techniques has always been pretty poor, and I think he would lose in a 1v1 fight against any of the top 4. Ichigo really only gets tagged because of his emotional state at the time.
