The first time Dirk saw another human being in his life in person, they were a corpse. He then had to go on and kiss said corpse. He then killed himself to transport his head elsewhere so another person could kiss a corpse (head). Then Dirk's dream self awoke and he probrably had to pause for a very brief moment to process what he was witnessing. Here is the first *alive* person Dirk has ever met, the alive version of the corpse he himself just kissed to wake up and *they're* attempting kiss a corpse and failing spectacularly to do it. Dirk then kicks Roxy out of the way and kisses *another* corpse. What would ordinarily be an extremely remarkable event (meeting another person for the first time in your life, especially someone you were close to) is put on hold due to Dirk prioritizing escaping all these goddamn miles. After meeting up with Jane and picking her up very quickly, Dirk goes on his way to witness the final member of the party smooch his corpse head. The circle of death kisses is now complete. I wonder what they did with the bodies in Roxy's house. This is something only a Prince of Heart could do. Smooching all these goddamn bodies and bailing people out of life-or-death jams. Fuckin' pain in the ass.
I do love this kind of moment. That rush of "Alright, I've got a plan, I know how to execute it, but there's no more time and no second chances. We're doing it live. Better not fuck this up."

Beta Kids - Failed to meet up during almost their entire session. Alpha Kids - Dirk gets them all together by himself in three minutes. Rapping the entire time (because of his fetch modus).
So let me get this clear: Dirk awakes after the red miles have spread. He makes to his room where he creates his Kernalsprite, kicking off the lid of the Cruxtruder: the same one other characters literally had to drop statues on to open. He creates his entry method and employs his buddy to get everyone in the game and to prototype his sprite. He then makes his way to Roxy's house making sure her dersite self doesn't die to the miles. He forces himself to wake up on Derse and revives Jane who wakes up on Prospit. He then somehow gets his board on Derse where he proceeds to ESCAPE THE RED MILES. Also somehow managing to time this all so that the flower opens up right for him to scoop up Jane. Then he wakes up Jake who he didn't even know was asleep and somehow gets his head to the frog island where Jake kisses it. All this being timed perfectly for the portal to appear RIGHT AFTER THEY ALL MEET UP. During all this probably rapping. I'm not the biggest fan of Dirk but you gotta admit that this was fucking awesome.
Probably my favorite scene. Synchronization indeed; there were what, eight jobs that needed to be done almost immediately, everyone ELSE was in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and somehow Dirk turns it all around without stopping. Even losing his head didn't slow him down for a moment.
looking at this I have to say the moment he send his head off to jake was probably a terrifying moment for him. I mean who in their right mind would willingly decapitate themselves like that. the last couple of moment before the sendificator goes off must have been a bit terrifying

He trusted Jake like he trusted a parent, and because he never had a parent, he had no idea what that feeling was. Don't get me wrong. He's still about as straight as a Slinky. Bro is proof of that, since they would have the same sexuality, what with that being something that you start with, and the two of them being the same person before the Reckoning. He just might be better off with a different man. Unfortunately for Dirk, human-wise, we're left with John and Dave. John is out of the question because he is not a homosexual, and Dave is technically his son. That means he's stuck with the trolls. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We just need a troll that isn't red for any other troll. Purrhaps we can find a pawssible candidate. (Yes, I know Nepeta is a girl, but Davepetasprite^2 isn't.)
The entire sequence gets even better when you realize that during this time, while he was captchaloguing and using the items, he would have had to be rapping.
Remember when Jake was like "I thought that when Dirk finally decided to get with me, it would be some kind of intricate plot?" He was saying that to the AR... during this. Dude wasn't even ready for Dirk's puzzlecock.

I just realized how many nods Homestuck has to itself. At 0:27 Dirk runs into the door, while dave runs out of it. (earlier in the comic I mean, and terezi does too)
I'll admit, I didn't like the alpha kids when they were first introduced, especially comparing to the beta kids. But Dirk really saves them for me. This one scene is packed with just so much awesome
Nicole Maj see I grew to like them as the story progressed particularly dirk and roxy but I think the main problem with how they were introduced is we went from cascade straight into what was for all intensive purposes act one again and the pacing just dropped like a rock so we went from a full cast we knew and we're getting really invested in to a new smaller cast as the focus that we have to relearn while waiting for shit to get moving again and I think that's the root of most people's dislike for the alpha kids
Ocazzar I completely agree! Even when the trolls were first introduced, there was a bit of a build up towards it. We had a few snippets here and there with the trolls trolling the kids, and saying certain things so that when they were first introduced, we wanted to learn more about them. With the alpha kids there was no build up and no clue or foreshadowing that indicated they would be part of the story. But it was still interesting to learn their backstories, once we got to know them! (Except Jake. Complete let down)

They are nobles instead of heroes, they can't do shit until the heroes arrive, their are... either disliked or not specially respected by their (dead) consorts, and, except for Roxy, all of them fail and their group almost implodes. Even their apotheosis was lame. When John, Jade, Dave and Rose ascended to god tier, it was a glorious moment, at the hands of Dog Jack, in the middle of doing "Important things" or, in the derse dreamers, creating the green sun and by the explosion of the Tumor. The Alpha kids were just in their beds, with Roxy trying to keep the group together and waiting for something to happen. So their role made them disliked even for the readers because that was their fate. Dirk saving grace was that he is cool. Arguably the coolest of the characters (and I say arguably because everyone has their own opinion about what's cool), and Roxy's was the fact that... well, as I said, she actually did things and kept all of them together. It's not surprise that people who disliked them usually say "I disliked the alpha kids except for Dirk/Roxy/Dirk and Roxy". They draw the short stick among the characters.
Technically not. This session was a voided session, and therefore not many meteors to speak of, maybe around 4. Right. It was the Red Miles and only them.
If Homestuck is ever made into an anime/tv-series this song NEEDS to be the opening. I can just imagine how people are out in the kitchen, they hear the beginning of this song the part from 0:06 - 0:12 and are like "hmmm... I recognize that... Where is that from?" and then the choir at 0:12 comes in, and they're like.. "I know that from somewhere!" and then 0:19 happens... "OH SHIT HOMESTUCK IS ON!". And they knock over plants, dogs and siblings to get to the living room so they can listen to the awesomeness of this song. 1:00 "DU DU DUDUDUNNN! DU DU; DU DU DU DUDUDUNNNNNNN!" You don't even have to play all of it; you could end it at 1:43 (which would still be longer than a normal Anime opening, but I don't think people would mind... :P )

He had to have so much faith in the time shenanigans AND Jake! There's a doomed timeline out there where the bucket falls into the ocean, Dirk's head lands next to Jake's unconcious body, both of which get engulfed in Lava, and Roxy is trapped on Derse with the red miles.
Sawtooth is the ultimate bro. Gonna stay behind and get annihilated by the red miles to make sure you get into the Medium. He knows it and the last thing you see is him flashing you a thumbs up.
Yeah, that's cause the stairwell in this video and the one in [S] Seer: Ascend are both references to the stairwell in [S] Dave: Ascend to the highest point in the building. Referencing things that have happened previously happens on almost every page of Homestuck after Act 5, so you shouldn't be surprised when you see things that look like things that happened before. In fact, you should be surprised if you DON'T see things that have happened before. As an example, on the topic of callbacks to [S] Dave: Ascend to the highest point of the building, all three flashes ([S] Dave: Ascend to the highest point of the building, [S] Seer: Ascend, and [S] Dirk: Unite) have the character doing an "ACROBATIC FUCKING PIROUETTE," an action which actually been mentioned several times throughout the comic.
Easily the strongest character in paradox space. Dirk in this flash gives a lot of meaning and weight behind Bro’s uncanny abilities and knowledge of the game (ie cutting the meteor in half, fighting Jack and trying to initiate the scratc)
Remember when Dirk was a cool guy who was immensely competent, helped his friends despite inhibitions, and despite being a bit cold, self centered, and overbearing, was able to aid everybody in mutual goals? Instead of the transphobic antagonist? Good times.
+alexa linares They were a few years older and had several months in the medium together, unlike the beta kids who got split apart for three years after only meeting eachother in person for a day. The beta kids also always had other company- after entering the medium they had the trolls, consorts, sprites etc. The alpha kids spent most of their time in the medium with only eachother, if we don't include Caliborn. It makes sense that they probably would be closer (and more prone to getting sick of eachother as well).
I think it's because Homestuck was originally written to be full of inside jokes and stuff, then it switched gears and became very emotional, and the alpha kids were written after that switch.
Thanks for putting these flashes into one video all those years ago! They're some of my favorites, and this video itself is my go-to relatively spoiler-free* trailer/introduction to Homestuck that I like to show to people, to make them understand it's not all silly sprites and text. I did get two of my friends into the series with this one, years ago :) (*spoiler-free in the sense that you can't really gather much about the plot twists from this with no knowledge of what's happening, so they're not getting spoiled but still get to see the action!)

Beta Kids - Failed to meet up during almost their entire session.
Alpha Kids - Dirk gets them all together by himself in three minutes. Rapping the entire time (because of his fetch modus).
So let me get this clear: Dirk awakes after the red miles have spread. He makes to his room where he creates his Kernalsprite, kicking off the lid of the Cruxtruder: the same one other characters literally had to drop statues on to open. He creates his entry method and employs his buddy to get everyone in the game and to prototype his sprite. He then makes his way to Roxy's house making sure her dersite self doesn't die to the miles. He forces himself to wake up on Derse and revives Jane who wakes up on Prospit. He then somehow gets his board on Derse where he proceeds to ESCAPE THE RED MILES. Also somehow managing to time this all so that the flower opens up right for him to scoop up Jane. Then he wakes up Jake who he didn't even know was asleep and somehow gets his head to the frog island where Jake kisses it. All this being timed perfectly for the portal to appear RIGHT AFTER THEY ALL MEET UP. During all this probably rapping. I'm not the biggest fan of Dirk but you gotta admit that this was fucking awesome.
I love how Roxy hesitates kissing Jane despite the dire situation and Dirk is like “Fine I’ll do it myself.”
Probably my favorite scene. Synchronization indeed; there were what, eight jobs that needed to be done almost immediately, everyone ELSE was in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and somehow Dirk turns it all around without stopping. Even losing his head didn't slow him down for a moment.
looking at this I have to say the moment he send his head off to jake was probably a terrifying moment for him.
I mean who in their right mind would willingly decapitate themselves like that. the last couple of moment before the sendificator goes off must have been a bit terrifying

He trusted Jake like he trusted a parent, and because he never had a parent, he had no idea what that feeling was. Don't get me wrong. He's still about as straight as a Slinky. Bro is proof of that, since they would have the same sexuality, what with that being something that you start with, and the two of them being the same person before the Reckoning. He just might be better off with a different man. Unfortunately for Dirk, human-wise, we're left with John and Dave. John is out of the question because he is not a homosexual, and Dave is technically his son. That means he's stuck with the trolls. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We just need a troll that isn't red for any other troll. Purrhaps we can find a pawssible candidate. (Yes, I know Nepeta is a girl, but Davepetasprite^2 isn't.)

I'll admit, I didn't like the alpha kids when they were first introduced, especially comparing to the beta kids. But Dirk really saves them for me. This one scene is packed with just so much awesome
Nicole Maj see I grew to like them as the story progressed particularly dirk and roxy but I think the main problem with how they were introduced is we went from cascade straight into what was for all intensive purposes act one again and the pacing just dropped like a rock so we went from a full cast we knew and we're getting really invested in to a new smaller cast as the focus that we have to relearn while waiting for shit to get moving again and I think that's the root of most people's dislike for the alpha kids
Ocazzar I completely agree! Even when the trolls were first introduced, there was a bit of a build up towards it. We had a few snippets here and there with the trolls trolling the kids, and saying certain things so that when they were first introduced, we wanted to learn more about them. With the alpha kids there was no build up and no clue or foreshadowing that indicated they would be part of the story.
But it was still interesting to learn their backstories, once we got to know them! (Except Jake. Complete let down)
@@sugarking12 To be fair, that's the Alpha kids thing. They are nobles instead of heroes, they can't do shit until the heroes arrive, their are... either disliked or not specially respected by their (dead) consorts, and, except for Roxy, all of them fail and their group almost implodes.
Even their apotheosis was lame. When John, Jade, Dave and Rose ascended to god tier, it was a glorious moment, at the hands of Dog Jack, in the middle of doing "Important things" or, in the derse dreamers, creating the green sun and by the explosion of the Tumor. The Alpha kids were just in their beds, with Roxy trying to keep the group together and waiting for something to happen.
So their role made them disliked even for the readers because that was their fate. Dirk saving grace was that he is cool. Arguably the coolest of the characters (and I say arguably because everyone has their own opinion about what's cool), and Roxy's was the fact that... well, as I said, she actually did things and kept all of them together.
It's not surprise that people who disliked them usually say "I disliked the alpha kids except for Dirk/Roxy/Dirk and Roxy". They draw the short stick among the characters.

I can just imagine how people are out in the kitchen, they hear the beginning of this song the part from 0:06 - 0:12 and are like "hmmm... I recognize that... Where is that from?" and then the choir at 0:12 comes in, and they're like.. "I know that from somewhere!" and then 0:19 happens... "OH SHIT HOMESTUCK IS ON!". And they knock over plants, dogs and siblings to get to the living room so they can listen to the awesomeness of this song.

Yeah, that's cause the stairwell in this video and the one in [S] Seer: Ascend are both references to the stairwell in [S] Dave: Ascend to the highest point in the building. Referencing things that have happened previously happens on almost every page of Homestuck after Act 5, so you shouldn't be surprised when you see things that look like things that happened before. In fact, you should be surprised if you DON'T see things that have happened before.
As an example, on the topic of callbacks to [S] Dave: Ascend to the highest point of the building, all three flashes ([S] Dave: Ascend to the highest point of the building, [S] Seer: Ascend, and [S] Dirk: Unite) have the character doing an "ACROBATIC FUCKING PIROUETTE," an action which actually been mentioned several times throughout the comic.
Striders just know how to dave the timelines. (Note- i meant to say save, but decided to keep the typo for ironic purposes).

+alexa linares They were a few years older and had several months in the medium together, unlike the beta kids who got split apart for three years after only meeting eachother in person for a day. The beta kids also always had other company- after entering the medium they had the trolls, consorts, sprites etc. The alpha kids spent most of their time in the medium with only eachother, if we don't include Caliborn. It makes sense that they probably would be closer (and more prone to getting sick of eachother as well).
I think it's because Homestuck was originally written to be full of inside jokes and stuff, then it switched gears and became very emotional, and the alpha kids were written after that switch.
