This week Jared Lintner & Ish Monroe team up to break down the California Delta. This is part 1 of a 3 part series and in Part 1 Lintner and Monroe try Punchin' Mats with the Missile Baits D Bomb and Jackall Sasuteki Craw.
Just in case you missed it, Ish is throwing a Missile Baits D Bomb with a Paycheck baits punch skirt, and a River2Sea Trash Bomb Tungsten weight.

Do they make Braided line that is not 50lb test plus? Where I fish it sounds like braided line will help a lot but I doubt I will need that heavy test. Plus it sounds like it would take some of the fun out of the fishing.

When you're punching mat that thick you have to set the hook that hard to make sure you set it all the way. Thats how you have to do it down here on the Florida lakes to land the fish.

First fish Ish catches, he tries to hide the blood on the left side of the fish where the fish swallowed the hook.

My 10 yr. old grandson (Trevor Markt) thinks Ish is the "Fishing God" so he ordered some Missile Bait D Bombs. He caught a 4 1/2 bass on third cast. After seeing that I ordered some D Bombs today.
sounds like your new to this type of fishin, so ill fill you in. first off, yes they make braid in lower lb tests, but if you plan on fishing say a frog or flippin in any sort of cover, you need heavy braid preferably 50 in up. its ESSENTIAL to use braid when fishing a frog and when punching, you will not do well with mono, fluoro, or even light braid. also, you need to be using the right rod and reel. you can't look at this and go, "ok ill put 60 pound braid on a spinning rod." that wont work.
I'm new to punching I was wondering if the skirt is a necessity to have when punching? I realize it gives the bait a bigger profile but it seems like it could be a hassle to be using
That's how you have to set the hook when your punching and I think he knows what he's doing because he's a pro and your not.

i mean yes and no, but its all hard to explain via youtube comments. look up uses for braided line and you will see. braid can be used for a wide variety of things, and one of the main uses is heavy cover. just look up these aspects of bass fishing and when you put a little bit of time into researching, you will learn just as i did, or any other fisherman. tight lines!
I am. I'm mostly a Salmon fisherman when it comes time for them to spawn and trout. And I don't think I understand your "punching" comment. So if I understand it right you use this type of line with either frogs or the bait in the video when fishing in heavy cover and grassy areas?

Are they using 65-70 LBS test because they are fishing the grass like that? It seems like WAY overkill for bass. And yes I do also wonder how they keep themselves from getting snagged every cast.

lol i understand ur concern, but it is totally necessary to jack em like that. the more time the fish spend out in the heavy cover, the more of a chance you have to loose em. tight lines.

Yah he doesn't know everything no one knows everything but he's definitely not an amateur and flipping and punching is his specialty.
Hooksets wayyyy too hard.
Probably doing permanent damage to the jaw parts on the fish.
Many of these fish probably die after a week.
Also levering open the jaw of the fish open too much when landing the fish by the lip; this also damages and injures the jaw.
Many of these fish suffer permanent jaw parts damage from this kind of handling when landing, and no doubt die within a couple of weeks if not sooner; the jaw cannot work normally to eat, and the fish do not survive.
