And thanks for brining so many Canadian songs to the fore of America and the world. ( misty eyes and very warm heart ). Born and raised in northern Canada, the musical backdrop of my life being here played by the finest performers. Own and play an old D-18 because of TR influence.

    • @cowsongs
      @cowsongs 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well, sorry. I'd be one of those. I think it is a great song. Gordon Lightfoot's version is magnificent, and so is Alison Krauss's. But this arrangement turns it into a speed display that drowns out all the delicacy and emotion of the song. Sure, the musicianship is top notch, but the speed and riffing are just too overpowering.

I see a few comments regarding Tony not mentioning the songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot. I have not traced this clip yet, but if it was a taped concert performance in front of a Bluegrass audience, that might explain things. Bluegrass/Traditional music fans already know GL wrote “Shadows”, the way a pop music fan knows who wrote “Satisfaction”. TR fans also would know TR as a Lightfoot stylist.

Let me reach out love and touch you, let me hold you for awhile
I'd be known around the world, oh how i long to see you smile.
There's a shadow on the moon, and the waters here below
Do not shine the way they should, and i love ya just in case you didnt know.
Let it go, let it happen like it happend once before
Its a wicked wind and it chills me to the bone,
And if you do not believe me, come and gaze upon the shadow at your door.
Won't you lie down by me baby, run your fingers through my hands
I'd be known around the town and still i do not understand
Is it me or is it you, or the shadow of a dream
Is it wrong to be in love, could it be the finest love i've ever seen
Set it free, let it happen like it happend once before
Its a bitter wind, and it chills me to the bone
And if you do not believe me, come and gaze upon the shadow at your door.
Please kiss me gently darlin, where the river runs away
From the mountains in the springtime, on a blue and windy day
Where there's beauty all around, as the shades of night grow deep
As the morning stars grow dim, they will find us in the shadows fast asleep.
