I have no idea what Gordon Lightfoot thought of Tony's interpretation of his song but I imagine he loved(loves) it. Tony and his bandmates did a lovely job with a lovely song. It's hard to think of the man without associating it with him.
Gordon said many times that he "never heard a cover of my tunes by someone else I didn't like." He loved Tony's versions of his songs on his "Tony Rice Sings Gordon Lightfoot" album.
I think Wyatt could have been a front man but he understood the genius ability of Tony and accepted his humble fate. Good thing.Yes,he was probably Tony's anchor! We all miss Tony
I fondly recall seeing Tony Rice perform live many times, this by far is my favorite performance, such great lyrics and Tony sang it perfectly
