Thank you! You just made my day. I was one of those people who thought, does this fan even come apart, I don't want to break it or throw it out, didn't think of the leaf blower idea (genius, btw). Really appreciate you taking the time to teach this. :)
my sister just gave me the same exact fan with YEARS of dirt, grime and even weird feathers in it!!! Thank you - the leaf blower tip was amazing!!!! It should look brand new in no time 😉
Thanks for making this video. To let you and the world know just what an exciting life I lead, I will be cleaning my Wind Machine on Christmas Day! It's been a great fan here at my Florida winter home. I sometimes wonder just how many revolutions it would do on low speed for say a 12 hour day? Thanks again. I will use a regular Philips screwdriver. I would be someone who would screw it the wrong way with the power unit.
Blades are too grimy to just wipe off. How can I take off blades to soak and wash? How can I wash the back plate without wetting the electrical stuff? Thanks for the video
@NicNacAttack thanks for your question. Though, this is why I stopped the video here. Now, if I remember right you can actually just pull the blade off. Though I kind of think there was a screw holding it in place. Now, as far as the back plate goes, you would have to remove all the electrical if you wanted to wash it. That's why I thought that this would be a good place to stop for most viewers. It gives you enough access to take a cleaning wipe or wash cloth and wipe down the blade, and is still pretty simple to get to this point. I might have to make a complete tear down video in the future.
@@AroundTheHome1 Thanks for your quick response! I just finished cleaning them...most blades do pull off after unscrewing the part that holds it in place. They screw opposite of what you would expect. It's not lefty loosey righty tighty...the round floor fan however had an electrical connection to the fan switch with wires and stuff that I didn't mess with. I vacuumed the back plate with the brush tool and got most of the dust. The others I rinsed in the tub just fine. Thanks again for the video. I've been putting this off for too long!
I broke my last fan by getting the electronic parts wet, would love a video that shows how to clean the fan. Wish I had a leaf blower. About to take mine apart and clean the dust is real..
Haha in a heatwave and no ac and I could barely feel any wind coming thru! This video helped a lot and now it’s on first setting on the fan and definitely feels the different, even when I change it to the third setting 😊 Ty Ty Ty
I have this fan. I have it right next to my bed on a cabinet. It is on 24/7. I cannot sleep without it on, and I keep it on all of the time. Have had it for a few years. IT IS HELL TO TAKE APART CAN CLEAN. But I do love this fan.
I used a very standard #2 Philips screwdriver for the whole project. The most common size worked just fine. I hope that helps. And I don't show it, but I believe that this fan blade just pulled off. I can't remember if there was a locking screw or not. I know that part doesn't help much. I stopped where I did on the video since you can easily reach the blades to wipe down with a wash cloth / sponge. I felt if I went further I should then take off the motor and switch / wiring from the back panel as well and decided that was too much for the target audience of this video.
@@AroundTheHome1 hello, so i went to both hardware store near me (home deport and harbor freight), but the size they had was not small enough to fit in that small hole. Is it possible if you could kindly, share a link to where i can get the exact size screwdriver that you used in this video?
I was hoping you'd show more. I cleaned it good but it squeaks sometimes. I don't see where it would be doing that so I don't know where to add lubricant.
Thanks so much. My fan is filthy & really need to be cleaned. I wasn't sure how to take it apart. Your video was very helpful & tomorrow l have a chore...
Also it would be a good idea to remove the blades and unscrew the motor from the housing so you can brush dust off since the dust clogging up the motor vent is the common cause of those to suddenly stop working.
Yes, and the blade will actually just pull off if you want to do more then just wipe it down from there. Glad I could help! Thank you for watching, and please share. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org/
On most of these models, the fan blade is just pressed on the shaft. So, double check first to see if there is any set screw on the shaft of the fan blade, then just pull off. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to stop by our website www.greatwhiteninja.com
Yeah, maybe I should have done that. I was just afraid that if I did that then people would be like why didn't I also take the motor off too. So I stopped there on purpose because you can easily take a rag and wipe the blade off. Also, there is more then one type of retainer for these blades. Some have a set screw on the side, others have a spring clip inside the blade so all you do is pull it off.
I Bought a Lusko Fan I Bought in August 2003 at a Local Walmart and it still Works Fine, however the Ouside Body is Falling Apart Plastic not Wires or anything like that okay anyway the Stan That you Attach to the Fan to Adjust what and where you want the Fan Direction where you want to Wind to Aim on the Fan itself that you Screw on Part of that Broke off so I cannot Put the Stand on is well meaning will Not Tighten is Well should I Replace the Lusko Windmachine Fan Through out Windmachine Fan and Buy a New Lusko Machine at Walmart what would you RECCOMMEND its Close to 20 Years Old and Due to Safty Procaution????? Please let me know what your opinion is on that is!!!!
So, are you asking me if you should buy a new fan because yours is literally falling apart and being held together with drywall screws? I would say yes, time to let go of the old one.
@John Schirloff man I don't know what you want me to say. The way you described it sounded like it was thrown down the stairs a couple of times or someone fell right on it. I can't tell you whether you should keep it or ditch it from here.
Depending on your exact model, the blade will either just pull off or there will be a set screw that needs to be loosened first then pull off. The motor and other electrical is quite a bit more, and that is why I stopped the video there.
Just use a pressure washer. Spray it down with ammonia. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and pressure wash it. Uses a leaf blower on the motor and let it set for outside in warm weather for about 2-5 hours.
If you are wondering how to take the rest of it apart. The blade just comes off, no real trick, use a screw driver to pry it off. Then use a number 2 Phillips head to remove the motor from the plastic. Then pry off the gear speed cap (don’t know the proper name, the thing in the center back of the fan that you use to turn it on and change speeds). Then with a flathead screwdriver pry of the gear shifter from the plastic and pull the cable through. Brush the motor with a dry old toothbrush if you see it dirty.
You are welcome. If you want to take the blade off too, it just pulls straight off. Thanks for watching and don't forget to stop by our website for many more helpful videos. www.greatwhiteninja.com
