  • Horse gram idli/ Kultha idli is a mouth watering and healthy breakfast. No fermentation needed.
    Tips:
    whether you buy loose or packed horse gram there will be small stones, so don't forget to clean it before soaking.
    Soak urad dal after soaking horse gram for 6 hours.
    Soak both the lentils separately.
    Grind both horse gram and urad dal thick like you do when making rice idli.
    Do not add more water while grinding which may result in soggy idlis.
    You can make thick dosa with this batter by adding finely chopped fresh ginger and green chillies.
    You can also pour this batter into a vessel and steam it like idli. We call it 'Rumdan'.
    You can grind this in the evening and store in the refrigerator to prepare breakfast in the morning.
    Horse gram makes you strong. You might know that people feed horse gram to horses and bullocks to make their legs strong.
    Horse gram creats heat in our body. So drink enough water.
