- Horsegram is avery healthy lentil specially for weight watchers and diabetics. This is also known as Kollu in Hindi or Kulinth in Hindi. It is high in fibre and protein rich too. It keeps you full for a long time. In this video we are showing two traditional recipes Idli & Dosa made with Brown rice and Horsegram. It can be served with chutney and Sambar.
Ingredients
For the batter
Brown rice 3 cups
Kollu/Horsegram 1 cup
Salt to taste
For chutney
Desiccated coconut/ fresh coconut
Roasted gram
Green chilli
Oil Mustard seeds
Urad dal
Hing
For Chutney Sambar
Coconut powder/ fresh coconut 1/2 cup
Roasted gram 1/4 cup
Dry red chilli 3
Green chilli 2
Tomatoes 3
Onion 2
green chillies
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder
Coriander powder
Oil
Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
Hing
Curry leaves a few

Hi Maami, I tried out preparing kollu idlies and believe me.. This came out really well... Very soft and spongy idlies - puffed up well... Did a slight moderation - added 2 cups of idli rice and 2 cups of brown rice and half a cup of poha for 1 cup horsegram. It was a lovely breakfast this morning - horsegram idlies with onion chutney... Thank you so very much for the recipe... Next time I'll try it out with millets instead of rice and let you know how it turns out... Thanks again 😃

Can we add a pinch of roasted methi powder towards the end to enhance the taste of this sambhar?

Aunty didnt know that horsegram cud be used so effectively. Learnt a new sambhar chutney that can be made quickly with limited resources. Lovibg uncle's participation feels as if you r living next door. These tavas r actually hard to find thses days good that you have treasured them so well.

Horse gram dosa n Idli is very new to me... will definitely try it out Mam... even I make instant sambar with fried gram, cinnamon, cumin,red chilli n coriander seeds grind along with grated coconut... rest is the same as your chutney sambar recipe... Hello Gitaji. Good morning. Tried it. But grinding in wetgrinder horsegram came up like foam. But the skin was not getting fully grinded. N it's hvg sticky feel like ragi. But quite filling with even 2 idlis. N with some pudina chutney it was yummy. Thank you.
