In this video PGA Golf Professional Rick Shiels heads over to Trafford Golf Centre for a longest drive challenge against his friend Paul Sturgess.
Paul Sturgess is Britain's tallest man, Europes tallest man and has played professional basketball for the Harlem globe trotters! Paul is 7 foot 7 and a half inches tall and plays golf of a 5 handicap!
Paul & Rick have several challenges to see who can hit the golf ball the longest! Spoiler alert, Paul can hit the golf ball miles using his Ping G410 driver!

Being a taller guy myself 6'4", it amazes me how coordinated and how nice his swing path looks. Being a 5 handicap at almost 8ft is incredible

Rick, thanks to you my golf game will never be the same. Before I found you I averaged about a 96 per 18 holes and needed to straighten my drivers, improve my long irons, and improve my hybrid shots. I spent countless hours studying everything you said and hundreds of dollars at the range perfecting each and every technique. I am proud to say that because of you I now average a score of 107 on 18 holes.

@@iangraves1383 They probably are by size, but he stays within USGA/RA conforming specs. Just maxes out what is legal. If he went proportional, his clubs wouldn't be legal for competition.

I can see right through Paul that he was really enjoying every moment of it and that he truly has a passion for golf. Such a humbly friendly giant with a mild heart.

Seriously! Someone get him some clubs that are scaled to his proper proportions. My back hurts watching him try to swing those "legal" clubs.

You’d think there would be something in the rules that allow for someone at that size the abilty to use stuff that suits them more. Yes its “illegal” but god he needs the length
@@Dragon4eva I was thinking the same thing. Like yes his real club length may be over the max legal limit, but because he is no where near the average height, there would be an exception in the rules for this.

With all the health problems growing that tall can cause, it's amazing how low his handicap is and how comfortable he is swinging that hard. Keep up the good work Paul, you're an absolute beast and you seem to be a great dude on top of that.

Paul is the only guy who underestimates how far he hits each club when he’s asked
And strangely, his clubs look too small.
Looks like he should have even stiffer shafts, the way they bend during his swing.
I'm 6'7" so it's awesome to see a man a foot taller then me killing out there! I finally decided to get custom fit for new irons this year so I'm looking forward to working harder and improving my skills. Maybe even play as good as you guys someday!

I watched your video on how to fix your slice and I can’t thank u enough. I’ve had a slice for about a year now and my lowest score I’ve ever shot was a 40. I did what u said about turning your hands more on the grip and it fixed it instantly. I even shot even par today.. thanks again couldn’t do it without u!💜

Amazing. Paul is a gentle giant, I can imagine it must be hard to be as good as he is with his height, the strain on his joints etc. So that only makes his achievement even greater. Great fun video Rick.

I imagine it would be fun at first, then after a few years of getting sent 2 drivers, 2 fairways, and 3 sets of irons/ set of wedges by every manufacturer, I imagine it would lose its luster. Thats alot of clubs to have to store
Nah... more interested in the access he has to custom club fittings for free or reduced cost.

The only club that properly fits him is the putter. The rest of the clubs are built to their legal limit in length.
Jesse Greenlee there's no legal limit for shorter clubs, it'll still be 48"

Met paul st the TH-cam golf day, what a gentleman he is, had time for photos and a chat with my son. Top man.
I know it's fun having a tall friend. When I worked as a paramedic my best friend was Peter Mayhew (The original Chewbacca) he worked as a porter in Mayday Hospital, Croydon. Sadly he died a couple of years ago in Texas. We didn't play golf together but we had fun walking into pubs. Thanks for the entertaining videos. Phil Mitchell.
Reckon this might be your best video yet Rick! My Dad's 5ft 6" and every time I point out I've just put it 50 yards past him out on the course he brings up Ian Woosnam and how far he used to bomb it... He's always saying that 'It's not because you're taller it's all about the modern clubs'... This puts that idea to bed I reckon! (besides anything else I've watch a video of Woosnam's swing, looks as if the ball's personally insulted him in some way, not surprised he hit it so far!)

Hey Rick, long time fan. I went golfing Wednesday for the first time in 4 months, shot a 91 and was super happy with that. One of the guys was hitting the ground before the ball and I gave him a pointer, seemed to work better. Then I told him to watch your 5 ways not to hit the ground first video. Lets see if he does as he is told!

Ive just picked up golf and stumbled onto your channel just over a week ago, just waiting on
my first club set to be delivered, first time at the driving range
borrowing my mates old clubs earlier this week I was hitting most of the
balls straight thanks to all your tips! Would love to get some of your time, from what I can tell you
live near Manchester which is really close to me too. your contents the
best Ive seen on golf would love to see how you gauge your clubs to
distance as Im yet to do that myself and would love pointers on ranges
and expectations on the clubs so I can have a nice distribution of clubs
without gaps to ensure my best chance of success when I hit the courses
very soon.
