You’re correct. 100 guys suited up, more guys on the practice squad. You would think more talent would be available. It’s not. Big issue is playing time. Only 13-14 games a year. It’s a sport where few people get to develop their skills in an actual game. 75% of the team is on the bench most of their career. Not getting game experience. Most guys, even good ones, spend thier life to play about 30-40 hours of collage football. Then it’s over.
Why did the ACC vote against a 12 team playoff this year? If they had voted for the 12 team to start this year they would be playing some scrub team first round of playoffs. This is what the ACC wanted.
CFB this season is the only sport ever where the “4 best teams in our subjective opinion” have ever been chosen. This language was introduced specifically to allow Bama a path. No other seasons have ever argued for the best over the most deserving
Yeah the whole committee motto "the best team gets in, not the most deserving team" drives me nutz! Plus you've got a room full of strangers deciding the fate of an undefeated power 5 team, ultimately saying they aren't good enough as a team to complete for the national championship. Their backup QB would be ready by Jan 1, who's to say he can't lead them to victory? Let the action on the field decide their fate, they earned it by going 13-0.
@@JCTiggs1that plus their rankings don’t even make sense. They say it’s the best 4 teams so they put Bama ahead of FSU. Yet they got Georgia ranked behind FSU after losing by 3 to Bama. So essentially the committee is saying FSU is unequivocally better than Bama.
Not saying FSU doesn’t have argument cause they obviously do but I don’t like Klatt talking around the point today. He himself said last week that Oregon, Texas, and Alabama should all get in over FSU if they won. He said that FSU had no case whatsoever to being one of the top 4 teams given the Travis injury bc it’s that significant. Now he doesn’t want to talk about whether it was right decision or not even tho HE SAID THIS WAS THE WAY HE WOULD DO IT. Seems like he’s trying to avoid backlash
Exactly. He's doing a 180 after all of the backlash and controversy directed at the committee for picking two 1 loss teams over a 13-0 FSU. He's jumping on the bandwagon and suddenly saying it's wrong.
@tylerballog9697 exactly. This stupid committee is essentially saying it’s the best teams by ranking Bama 4th ahead of #5 FSU, but then it’s most deserving by ranking #5 FSU ahead of #6 Georgia. I’m wondering if they were too dumb to even notice they made it obvious
@@bryankarst3881 Yeah !!! ALA gets in EVERY YEAR !!! EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDN'T GET IN LAST YEAR OR A FEW YEARS BEFORE THAT !!! AND ALA NEVER DESERVED TO GET IN EVEN THOUGH THEY WON 3 NC IN THE CFP AND MADE IT TO THE TITLE GAME 3 OTHER TIMES !!! YEAH !!!
i been saying this forever. the thing that the nfl has over college is an objective postseason structure. it doesnt matter what anyone thinks about your team at all.
If Florida St would’ve gotten in with their QB getting hurt then they should’ve made the playoffs. You cannot punish a team for something they cannot control.
They could control only putting 50 yards on Louisville. They had a chance to show they were a premier team but they had a weak schedule and looked like garbage against a weak ACC championship game

I feel for the players on FSU. There's nothing else they could've done. I understand why the committee chose Bama over FSU, but it seems like a dangerous precedent to set.

If this were the NFL, this would be illegal. The undefeated team in the NFL gets the top seed. Don’t need a bunch of old men making decisions in a back room. Let the record speak for itself.
At this point late in the season, FSU dealt with adversity and won, in achieving a 13-0 record. The committee then decided that overcoming adversity wasn't good enough, and means for nothing.
@@JK-vc7ie That's a little weak. What if Michigan scored only 5 points against FSU's defense? What if FSU's offense scored JUST enough to win that game?

This whole committee motto "we pick the best teams, not the most deserving teams" really grinds my gears. You're telling all of those players on a 13-0 FSU team that they aren't good enough to compete without even given them a chance, especially since their backup QB would be ready for Jan 1. I'm not even a FSU fan but they should have been #3. The controversy should have revolved over which 1 loss team got the #4 spot (example: is it the team who beat Bama on their home turf by double digits or is it the team who beat UGA on neutral field by 3 pnts). See that's what the story should have been about.
@@dragonsurge1would GA not beat MI or WA or TX? They would be favored in any of those games. The argument used for Bama to get in then you have to put GA in as well. Georgia would probably beat Bama in a rematch too. If you were watching the game, Georgia looked like the better team as they settled in, but Bama won, and that’s why wins matter
@@NotADoctor330 I think any of the top 8 teams this year (including FSU with healthy starting QB) could get a win against each other. There isn't a dominant team where a win is 100% guaranteed..any team can have an off day, make mistakes, make poor play calls/decisions etc
I just don’t get why the committee was like, yep FSU is clearly the 4th best team in the nation AFTER their QB went down but then go, naw now that it’s the playoffs you’re not good enough…..Funny, they were still good enough to hold that spot right up until it wasn’t convenient 🤷♂️🤷♂️. The reality is the committee wanted to squeeze Bama in but had to use that #3 spot for Texas to justify Alabama at #4.FSU should have moved up to #3 and then the committee could try to explain which 1 loss team was worthy of #4 instead of the controversy of leaving an undefeated power 5 team out of the playoffs.
@@JCTiggs1 what did Texas do? They destroyed their opponent vs a very small victory. Through no fault of their own FSU had a week schedule compared to the other top teams.
I agree... FSU should not have been #4 last week. They should've been behind Oregon and TX. If so, then FSU would know the committee didn't think highly of them w/o Jordan Travis and therefore they have to win big in ACC championship.
What's the "or else" consequence to telling Greg Sanky and Bama "No"? I need you to spell that out for us if you're going to talk about how he's the most "powerful person in sports" and then try and weasel around and say "but he would never do anything inappropriate". Okay, then why does it matter? What does anyone on the committee actually have to fear by saying No to Bama? Either there are consequences to saying No to Bama (and therefore corruption) or there's not. Arguments like "you can't just say NO to BAMA" are pointless if you can't spell out to us what the "or else" is.
The commitee is owned by the SEC and would ensure tgat an SEC team is in the cfp. This won't end this year. Next year the commitee will just put 2 SEC teams in the top 4 so they can rest in the bye week while all the other teams play meaningless games but make them feel better that they were included.
@@jky3889 look at the current rankings. 12 of the current top 13 teams will be in the Big 10 or SEC next season. Those conferences will be ridiculously loaded so they’re not going to view a 9-3 SEC team the same as a 11-1 ACC team
took 13 weeks but Joel Klatt finally gettin that SEC bag and actively advocating for a precedent that will encourage institutions to play injured athletes even more than they already do to play when injured. If Jordan Travis was the sole contributing force of his team and was the only reason they are undefeated - should he not be getting the Heisman?
I understand they were picking the 4 best teams, but why? It should be the most deserving teams. The reason I love college football is every game matters. I don't see how you leave out an undefeated P5 team for a one loss alabama team.
You have 4 spots for 5 conference champions, they have to pick the current best 4. The issue isn’t the committee it’s the system. All 5 conference champions should have a shot
No matter what the commitee was planning to leave FSU out if they didn't lose. All along it was planned to have both Georgia and Alabama in except Texas also won and they couldn't justify leaving Texas out.
Even if FSU beats UGA to stay undefeated and Michigan or Washington end up undefeated it would not even be the first time two teams have gone undefeated at the end of the year. FSU could claim a national championship and per the entire history of CFB it would not even be out of place.
No it's about making sure that an SEC team was in the payoffs plaiin and simple. Any other team can have this happen to them if they need to add an SEC team.
The way I look at it, is if you say that FSU isn't good enough because of the injury at QB to be ranked above Alabama and Texas, then why are they ranked above Georgia? Like that's inconsistent. If they think they're not good enough to beat Alabama then why do you think they're gonna beat Georgia? If it's close enough to where you rank fsu above Georgia, then you gotta give the edge to the undefeated team and fsu needs to be in.
I have heard this argument before and I think it is one of the best arguments to be made. I also like Mike Greenberg's argument that college football has suddenly become figure skating. He argues that when the playoff teams are determined in the NFL, teams don't get dropped from the playoffs if their best player gets hurt. It's won-loss record. Period.
The CFB Committee Got it WRONG! Do you remember OSU in 2014?? It was not Braxton Miller or TJ Barrett that won the National Championship for OSU!! I think FSU should have been 3. Texas or Alabama 4!!
I’m just happy next year there is a 12 team format for the playoffs. This system doesn’t work. FS deserves to be in because they did absolutely everything they were asked to do. Sure, Bama and Texas deserves to be there but there is no way an undefeated team who also won there conference game should be left out.
True freshman - first career start and practice with first team. Mich is averaging only 380 yds game and the defense logged great numbers because #1 their schedule and #2 mostly terrible offenses in the B10: prime example is Iowa who year in and year out are one of the worst in all of college football. Everybody should be complaining about Mich. No non-conf P5 games. First 4 games at home. 6 of first 9 games at home and all 9 were against crummy opponents, including 6 of the worst in the B10. Mich barely beat Ohio St, Penn St & MD. And if not for a couple of fortunate plays, the Mich offense wouldn't have scored a TD vs Iowa and final score very well could have ended up 9-0 or 12-0. The big mistake came 10 years ago when SEC got labeled a “power 5” conference. Insinuating that the other 4 conferences are equal in stature. If you look at it through the lenses of all 5 power conferences being equal, this decision would have actually been very easy. But EVERYONE knows the SEC has a bias. The ranking on Sunday tells us the games do not matter. Big time bummer.
I agree that the commitee has now told the world that winning games don't matter. The only thing that matters is that SEC has at least one team in the top 4 even with the 12 team system.

And when they do get in, B10ers are always complaining about the refs. It gets old. IMHO, the argument should have been why does Mich get in instead of FSU. Mich started the season w 4 straight home games vs crummy opponents, first 9 opponents were crummy, including 5 of the worst 6 in the B10, then barely beat Penn St, Ohio St, & MD, and were lucky to beat Iowa 26-0. That was the talk weeks ago when they were planning on having both Georgia and Alabama in. Georgia gave up their chance so that Alabama would be in and then they got so much push back about moving Alabama from 8 to 1. So then the next best thing was moving Alabama in and leaving Texas out, but then Texas had beat Alabama in Alabama so then let's get rid of FSU. FSU's best win is Alabama's THIRD best win. The four teams that made it into the playoffs objectively have better wins than FSU. This isn't a knock against FSU, but the SOS is uncomparable.
How can they justify will effect post season performance when they won regardless of what quarterback is in whether in a championship game or whoever with Rodemaker coming back. This is why I’m happy to see the 12 team playoff expansion. I do feel they made the right decision. But with the expansion we will no longer have undefeated and one loss teams with no shot at a national championship. I like the expansion because now whether they have one loss or undefeated. Group of 5 or Power 5 they will have a spot and a chance to prove they’re good enough.
The CFP set itself up for failure when it went with a 4-team playoff. With five P5 conferences they should have assumed that it was possible for there to be 5 really good conference champions, so it should have been a 5 or 6 team playoff at the least. 6 would have made room for a 1-loss team, but of course GA or Ohio St would be getting mad right now. ha ha. 8 would have made the most sense: 4 quarterfinal games before New Years, then the semis on NYs, then the NC game a week later. But then again there would be complaints about who should be #8. ha ha. With 12 teams there are going to be complaints about who is #12 and who else got left out. mark my words. 2 or 3 teams are going to be complaining this time next year and getting all mad that an SMU or Liberty is "allowed" into the playoffs.
Hard disagree. Least resistance was leaving Bama out, the only reason they didn't was SEC bias... Maybe not SEC bias in the sense that they think the SEC is just so good, but I'm terms of money. But this is just a bigger example of what we've already seen with undefeated G5 teams being left out. No team should be in a situation where no matter how well they do, they can always be excluded from the championship in their own league due to preference for other conferences.
what used to be was a better way for the sport. for the kids who played it. and for the fans. your analysis is spot on. sad to have the system we do. even with the expanded slate that's coming.
4 teams left no room for a year in which all five power conferences had a vg champion and left no room for a year in which there were 4 or 5 vg conf champions plus a vg 1-loss team, such as GA or Ohio St.
Coming from a guy that covers the Big Ten and is biased, I can’t take your take serious. You’re like Paul you get a paycheck by a certain company. You’re all biased
There is nothing right about this! There is no way can say within your right mind that Bama deserved to be in the playoffs! And for anyone to say different is delusional! FSU 100% deserved to be in the CFP.
What's more appalling is Mich getting an automatic bid because they barely beat Ohio St, Penn St, & MD. That's it. Mich had a 6 game stretch when they played 6 of the 7 worst teams in the B10 right after their 3-game G5 non-conf slate, plus 6 or those 9 games were at home and Mich started the season with four straight home games and Mich barely broke 30-pts in those first four games against crummy opposition.
All these FSU arguments are so stupid!! This is how you know bama deserves to be in! Bama has the resume to be in and FSU doesn’t!! That’s why every one who argues bama gets in is pointing out stats and resume and everyone who wants FSU in makes an emotional argument about how hard they fought with a back up and maybe their back ups gets better! BS, Alabama might have a bad a couple games that were close because they lost focus but you don’t beat the number one team in the country and not make the playoffs!! If the only thing that matters kind 13-0 then Liberty should be in the playoffs just Childs play arguments!
I made that exact same argument this morning. Same with Bama, same with Georgia. And they're all arguing to the committee to pay attention to their body of work
Auburn and BYU were both left out during the bcs era. This is not the first time this happened. Both teams finished unbeaten but we're not invited to the bcs championships.
I think they messed up and got themselves into this mess during their rankings the few weeks leading up to the conference championship weekend. They were so obviously ranking teams based on who they thought were better and were going to win in their minds. They moved up Oregon because they were convinced Oregon would win the second matchup with Washington. They were also convinced Georgia would handle business with Alabama. In my personal opinion, they never should've even started with that, "Best 4 Teams" nonsense. The best 4 teams is subjective.... it doesn't exist, that's why we're having playoffs to begin with. Every single person is going to have a different opinion on who the best 4 teams are, but their's zero way to prove it without a head to head matchup.
I'm not a SEC fan but what the SEC teams started doing was keep an abundance of their players in State. Obviously, I'm not stupid either because I'm sure they started paying these players a great amount of money. You have the States of Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, and South Carolina, and now Texas. Most of the talent in football comes from these respective States.

Here's the best way to maximize the best teams both during the season and at the end of the season having the chance to compete for the National Championship: ALLOW the ENTIRE TOP 20 to participate in the following manner: 1. Eliminate "automatic bids" for certain conference champions; 2. Eliminate 13th game "Conference Championship Games," begin the regular season the last Saturday in August, and end the regular season the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving. 3. Take the BOTTOM 8 teams of the Top 20 (i.e. teams ranked # 13 through # 20) and have them play a "play-in round on Thanksgiving weekend (teams #1 through # 12 receive a BYE). The play-in winners of the 4 Thanksgiving weekend games get added to teams #1 - #12 to complete the 16-team National Championship playoff bracket 4. The first Saturday of December (the weekend that had previously been used for "Conference Championship Games") is when the Round of 16 plays -- 8 games. The 8 winners advance to New Year's Day games. Losing teams are eligible for lesser bowls during the Holiday Season -- OR all those other bowls are simply cancelled because players enter the transfer portal and/or decline to play/risk injury for meaningless games. All teams have no games after the first Sat in December until after 1st semester final exams. 5. The 8 advancing teams play at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m., and 8 p.m. EST on New Years Day. 6. The 4 winning teams from New Years play in the two semi-final games on 8 January 7. The two semi-final winners play the National Championship game on 15 January.
Florida State has a legitimate argument why they should be included in the final four playoff. But to me the greatest transgression to the bowl selections was Oregon vs. Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl. (Full disclosure I live in Oregon and am a State of Oregon team supporter). Most of the bowl selections have both teams within a few spots from each other in the final team rankings Except for the Fiesta Bowl. Kudos to Liberty for an undefeated season, but a 15 spot ranking difference for the Fiesta Bowl (#8 vs. #23). Really??????
Your commentary helped create this outcome, and now when asked "did they get it right" you say "I don't know". Wear this outcome as your badge of shame.
Florida State should have gotten in for the same reason that Michigan and Washington were selected (Power 5 Undefeated Conference Champions). No opponent has shown that Florida State can be defeated. As to the loss of their quarterback, they have won without him. This goes to overcoming adversity and the Next Man Up mentality. These are two of the most important qualities of a championship team. It adds to their resume, not detracts. I am not an FSU supporter or fan. However, I am a 62 year-old life-long fan of college football and I do believe in right and wrong. God Bless the 2023 Florida State Seminoles.
Mich schedule was atrocious. first 4 games at home, 6 of their fist 9 games at home and all 9 vs crummy teams. Then barely beat Penn St, MD, & Ohio St. And Mich knew beforehand that they'd only need to score a couple of FGs to win the B10 champ.
I think bringing up the USF and Auburn wins are fine, but you have to do the same with the other teams in question. Every team in the top 6 had close calls with bad teams. That just happens. You can't forget FSU BARELY beat a horrendous Boston College team, Miami, Clemson, and Florida (who yes is a bad SEC team right now--not even bowl eligible).
When you say barely beat Boston College and florida you aren't even right. Bc got a garbage time td and made it look close. It wasn't and fsu beat uf and maimi more convincingly than Bama beat auburn or usf
@@ubadman1 That's totally fine. Wins are wins. Sometimes teams have bad days, but as long as you come out with the W, you can regroup and prepare for your next opponent. It's just that everyone wants to try to pick Bama apart by their close calls with bad teams but it's just desperation to avoid the fact that they objectively have better wins than FSU does. Remember Auburn also almost beat UGA. The USF game was a mess of figuring out their QB situation. If Bama had not beaten Georgia, FSU would have been in the playoffs easily.
@@ubadman1 Um, BC out-gained FSU by over 100 yards (BC 457 to 351 FSU) and their "garbage time" TD was with over 5 minutes remaining in the game after being down by 21 early in the 3rd, so there was the possibility that FSU might lose.
@@ubadman1 Iowa is the fourth best defense in the country in terms of ppg. Louisvill is outside of the top 20. FSU had 55 yards passing. Scored only one touchdown. FSU QBR in the game was close to zero. Nobody want's to see that against Michigan. Watch what happens when FSU plays Georgia.
I keep seeing the claim in the video title and it strikes me as weird. Every year there are a minimum of 65 teams in the Power Five that don't make the playoffs. Moreover, the very nature of having a Power Five and a four team playoff necessarily leaves one out.
Nobody would have been that upset if Alabama was left out. Committee was too influenced by ESPN , who by the way, have the tv deal with SEC! Why is this so hard to see or say!
I believe the fix to all of this, from the start, was to make a 6 team playoff with the champions of each power five conference and one at large team. The top two wait for the other four teams to duke it out. The winner will go against the top seeded teams. And the winner of that will be crowned the true college football champion. The twelve team playoff is only going to make conference titles worthless.
The original 4-team slate was flawed from the get-go. The CFP committee apparently failed to consider that there may come a year when all five power conference champs were vg. At the very least it should have been 5 teams, but 6 would have made more sense, and 8 is actually the best number so that all teams that make the playoff would have the same number of games, 3.
I don’t think the “path of least resistance” means they made the correct choice or made it where the best teams got in. It’s been said for YEARS that the CFPS committee will make any excuse to get Bama in
The committee made the right decision. Bama beat Georgia, the back-to-back champs on a 29 game win streak. And went undefeated in the best conference in football. I HATE Bama, I really do. I hope my Michigan Wolverines smack them. But, the most likely reality is Bama will put up a great game against Michigan and FSU will get stomped by 40 to Georgia. Proving the committee right. It sucks. But life sucks. These are the best teams in the country. Period. And this playoff is going to be awesome.
Joel I respect you a ton but “leaving out the best conference of the past 15 years” is not a good argument to exclude Florida State nor include Alabama. It’s not about conference bragging rights.
I am tired of hearing the system is broken! As a way to excuse that bad decision of the committee based on money! Just be honest that records don't mean nothing. You pretty much telling FSU good job at recruiting good players and working hard all season. Good job going undefeated, but your hard work doesn't mean anything. We the committee decided and not your hard work, but we can't let y'all in because you messing with our revenue. We got to please certain people!
The ACC didn’t want the 12 team playoff this year. So, the music stopped and FSU didn’t have a chair. To have a four-team playoff with a POWER FIVE is ludicrous. FSU shouldn’t be in the playoff and they aren’t.
As a Bama fan I couldn’t imagine the pressure Jordan Travis is feeling, even though it’s not his fault, he will always carry the weight of this, I feel awful for him
Everybody is going to be complaining about who should be #12. ha ha. This year if there was a 12-team playoff, Liberty 13-0 would be complaining about being left out even though they have the weakest schedule.
Sorry Joel....but you are dead wrong. The first power 5 team to be left out of the CFP in the history of this Top4 Playoff system. The first team to be left out of the CFP was..TCU. TCU ended up being snubbed that year and ended up having to play against Ole Miss in some bowl game where they absolutely crushed Ole Miss. I remember the game clearly and that year clearly.
Not a fan of any of the teams up for CFP. What would have been the fallout if it would’ve been 1. Michigan, 2. Washington, 3. Florida State, 4. Texas, 5. Alabama, 6. Georgia.
I think it is a disgusting travesty that FSU was chosen ahead of Alabama. They lost to Texas, and barely beat Auburn. Georgia clearly has been overated all year. It is inexcusable.
GA has been pretty scary the last few years, so being "over-rated" is understandable. Everybody knows GA is loaded with talent and has a coach that has proven he can win NCs, and if GA seemed down it could be chalked up to breaking in a new QB, but that new qb is surrounded by plenty of 4 & 5 star players.
Here's one for ya, how about a team coming off 29 consecutive wins and winners of 44 of their last 45 (now 46) football games? A team that put on the most dominating performance in recent history in last year's championship game. A team coming off of two consecutive nattys. This team gets completely iced out after losing by a field goal to one of their most heated rivals after securing the #1 spot all year in today's cfb climate? You're saying this team is no longer worthy of one of 4 spots? Let's put it this way, Georgia would be the betting favorite over ALL of the other participants, including a rematch with Alabama. I know no one is losing sleep over that, but that one sucks, too, and is hard to figure out.
These are my feelings exactly. The top 4 was repeatedly stated to be "the best 4 teams." I honestly thought they'd go Texas, Bama, Georgia, Michigan, Washington, FSU, in that order.
The commitee couldn't justify having both Geogia and Alabama in. So they went for the SEC conference champ and did hoops to get them in with Texas. All planned in advance and all non SEC teams need to pay attention as they could be next.
I'm done debating on fairness because I agree that this decision was not about fairness from the humanistic perspective. "Fairness" has never been the objective of the committee because fairness in itself is subjective to each individual's interpretation of what is "fair". It is about the 4 best teams AT THE PRESENT DAY based on ALL of the collective and cumulative data, some of which some people conveniently boast and some that others conveniently disregard or downplay in order to reach their preferred outcome. I just want people to see beyond their emotions, accusations and conspiracies to consider all criteria as equal, but that is not possible without knowing all of the criteria and being reasonable enough to consider all of the criteria, not just the criteria that gets you to your desired outcome. THAT is really being fair. It is systematic not emotionally driven.
The sport isn’t about what analysts “think would happen on the field”, its about letting things prove itself on the field Bet everyone thought auburn didnt stand a chance vs bama too
There is more to this than feeling bad about injustice for FSU. Boo Corrigan has also officially stabbed his own conference in the back and established the precedent that the ACC is no longer a power conference. NCstate should fire him for harm done to their athletic program.
All things equal an injury to a star layer should matter. If FSU, Alabama, and Texas had all been undefeated champions then FSU being out due to the quarterback injury makes sense. But an injury should not count for more than a loss.
12 team playoff will not solve anything. They will put 6 SEC teams in and 6 Big Ten teams in because the two big networks want that. So if your team is stuck in the Big 12 or ACC you won’t get in ever again. It will be Bama, UGA, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, and Mizzou from the SEC. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, USC, and Oregon from the Big Ten. These will be your playoff teams going forward with maybe a Tennessee, Ole Miss, TxAM slipping in occasionally from the SEC.
Joel I remember in 2017 after 11-1 non conference champion Alabama got in ahead of 11-2 Big Ten Champion Ohio State, You went on Colin Cowherds show very upset about how they choose best over deserving. You were basically saying that the committee said the games didn't matter and why not have Vegas pick the teams. Just wondering what changed from that passionate rant to today when you agree with the committee. This is even more of a case of best over deserving since Alabama had one less loss than Ohio State then and Florida State was undefeated.
And that was one year after Ohio St got selected in exactly the same way: 11-1 without being a conf champion. And only difference was ALA won the NC whereas Ohio St got trounced in the semis, didn't even score, just like Mich St didn't score the year before that.
Joel, it is sickening that the talking heads and the committee members actually have the balls to sit there and blame Jordan Travis getting hurt for this. Absolutely disgraceful
And this was a legacy pick no way bama had a better resume than FSU but hey I'll watch less regular season games because I see now they don't matter much.
FSU deserved to get in but better resume'? nope. ALA beat #1 GA in conf champ. FSU beat #15 Louisville. ALA beat 4 T25 while FSU beat 3. Both beat #13 LSU. The other 3 ALA beat are ranked higher than the other 2 that FSU faced. ALA gained almost 100 yds more vs #1 GA than FSU did vs #15 Louisville. FSU won all games, 13 in a row. ALA lost to #3 TX then won 11 in a row. FLA did not face anyone ranked as high as #3 TX. FSU faced #13 LSU, #15 Louisville, #22 Clem. ALA faced #1 GA, #3 TX, #11 Ole Miss, #13 LSU, #21 Tenn.
Worse case scenario and path of least resistance are very, very different. But here would lead you to the same result. Least resistance is to send the undefeated power 5 team to the playoff over the 1 loss winner. Worst case scenario is you leave out FSU and they beat Georgia worse than Bama did. Then we’ll get a split national championship. It might be even worse if Bama wins the playoff.
The sad part is this: FSU PLAYED their way in. They won their "1st round game" the other Sat. night. Now they would have upwards of 4 weeks for any QB to practice and get ready for a playoff game.
Probably wont read this, but....the CFP Committee claims FSU just isnt good enough and cant compete with the chosen 4, BUT- why are they still ranked #5 in the CFP rankings ahead of Georgia(6), Ohio St(7), and Oregon(8)? Are you telling me that CFP Committee thinks UM, Texas, and Washington, and Alabama are better than FSU( now that they have a 3rd string QB), but FSU is still better than Georgia, Ohio St, and Oregon? Makes NO sense. Did they put FSU at #5 above those "better teams" just out of respect? Its all B.S. Give the spots to teams that EARNED it, not to the "best" teams; based on opinion. They deserve a chance, whether they win or get destroyed. Why even play the games? Why not just let people who know football, who know what teams are the best- just decide in December who is National Champs based on what you think( dont need to play games)
So why even have backup players? Why even have a team if its all about one player
In fact they've done the opposite before. Michigan State comes to mind

Score very easily could have been 9-0 or maybe 12-0 at best if not for the 5 & 10 yard "drives". I can make a couple more salient points about the Mich schedule.
@@jky3889Interesting that the FSU strength of schedule keeps changing depending on who is talking. I have heard number from the 30s to your 70. Again a moving number. A number that can be fixed and rigged. This cfp decision was decided weeks before Jordan was hurt. All rigged. Only a beauty contest no longer a championship game
Bama still would have gotten in over FSU even if they were the ones on their 3rd string and FSU was 12-1 with Jordan Travis.
See this can happen to any team that is not SEC even with the 12 team as the commitee is picking the top 4 that get a bye week. This CFB is rigged so that SEC is always in.
? FSU finished 13-0. With Travis FSU probably finishes the same 13-0.

Besides, Bama looked like absolute garbage for most of the season so who knows

FSU's best win is Alabama's THIRD best win. The four teams that made it into the playoffs objectively have better wins than FSU. This isn't a knock against FSU, but the SOS is uncomparable.
Right. Alabama needed a miracle to squeak pst auburn. Their win against Georgia was the most rigged game I’ve ever watched
How can they justify will effect post season performance when they won regardless of what quarterback is in whether in a championship game or whoever with Rodemaker coming back. Sounds like easy for them with no consideration for what FSU earned. Absolute Bull! I am DONE with college football! Wins don't matter its a beauty contest
The system is broken?
A four team playoff was a good recipe for a broken system.
4 teams left no room for a year in which all five power conferences had a vg champion and left no room for a year in which there were 4 or 5 vg conf champions plus a vg 1-loss team, such as GA or Ohio St.

The committee still got it right. They could only pick 4 teams so it just sucks.

Are you a mind reader or can predict the future?
Well the committee is trying to predict the future saying that FSU would lose to the other playoff teams.
If ALA QB gets knocked out, ALA loses to AUB and GA. Then it would be a conversation about FSU & TX.
Auburn and BYU were both left out during the bcs era. This is not the first time this happened. Both teams finished unbeaten but we're not invited to the bcs championships.
Yeah !!! Even though that was more than 10 years ago !!! And Even though BYU was never snubbed because you're confusing them with TCU !!!

Here's the best way to maximize the best teams both during the season and at the end of the season having the chance to compete for the National Championship: ALLOW the ENTIRE TOP 20 to participate in the following manner:
1. Eliminate "automatic bids" for certain conference champions;
The play-in winners of the 4 Thanksgiving weekend games get added to teams #1 - #12 to complete the 16-team National Championship playoff bracket
6. The 4 winning teams from New Years play in the two semi-final games on 8 January
You also forget that the Miami, Clemson and UF games are rivalry games. BC was during their bandana weekend and FSU players were sick.

The Playoff committee was gutless, should've been - Michigan, Washington, FSU, Texas. winning on the field should be the only thing that matters.
If Jordan Travis broke his leg early in the season they would have lost to LSU and several other teams! That tweet was so stupid!
Biggest mistake was FSU QB running vs North Alabama, so it's on the coach or the QB if he didn't listen to the coach.
The commitee told all non SEC teams that their wins don't matter on SEC teams matter
The ACC didn’t want the 12 team playoff this year. So, the music stopped and FSU didn’t have a chair.
To have a four-team playoff with a POWER FIVE is ludicrous.
FSU shouldn’t be in the playoff and they aren’t.
It's SEC bias. Alabama is not as good as Florida State OR Ohio State
If we still used the BCS system for the rankingsit would be
1 Michigan
2 Washington
3 Alabama
4 FSU
5 Texas
As a Bama fan I couldn’t imagine the pressure Jordan Travis is feeling, even though it’s not his fault, he will always carry the weight of this, I feel awful for him
How about the coaches for letting him run against North Alabama?
No reason to play the games anymore results don’t matter no need for them
all i gotta say is that thankfully this is the LAST YEAR of only having the top 4 teams. next year will hopefully be better
Thank you!!!!
PAST SEASONS DON'T COUNT !!! ha ha.
The sport isn’t about what analysts “think would happen on the field”, its about letting things prove itself on the field
Bet everyone thought auburn didnt stand a chance vs bama too
There is more to this than feeling bad about injustice for FSU.
ESPN owns college football, and Nick is in their commercials. Friends come first.
Calling the ACC a Power 5 conference was the first mistake.
Joel, it is sickening that the talking heads and the committee members actually have the balls to sit there and blame Jordan Travis getting hurt for this. Absolutely disgraceful

As did bama. Texas jumped y'all as well . Even if Georgia beat bama, Texas still would have been 4
Probably wont read this, but....the CFP Committee claims FSU just isnt good enough and cant compete with the chosen 4, BUT- why are they still ranked #5 in the CFP rankings ahead of Georgia(6), Ohio St(7), and Oregon(8)?
