Used to watch Eric when I was like 10 years old. He captivated my obsession with trains/model trains with every video I watched. Whether it be some incredibly long intermodal train or the UP Challenger, I loved watching every video he had to offer. Fast forward 6 years later, I have changed drastically. Thank you Eric, for creating such memorable nostalgic memories of binge-watching your videos and fantasizing over buying everything in the Lionel catalog.
The alternating ditch lights are not prototypical of either Santa Fe or BNSF from my experience, but still a nice visual effect nonetheless. Overall, I’m impressed with the quality of this “budget” model. Good job Atlas!
Oh wow, I didn't think you can still get Atlas O Dash 8's. I personally have a Atlas "Master" Amtrak Dash 8 Phase III, from 2001. My particular Dash 8 is extremely rare and only recently I found a Amtrak California Dash 8 on Ebay going for a lot of money because of it's rarity. My Dash 8 currently needs a bit of repair, but I should be able to get it back to working order very soon. Also, I would be more than happy to let you review my Dash 8 if lived in the Atlanta area. But I'm on the other side of the country, so that will most likely not happen. *Edit:* The reason why this engine has a lot of pulling power is because those "blind wheels" also have traction tires. So there's 8 total traction tires on this engine, which I believe is new for an engine that has 6 wheel trucks.
Also, I did a little digging and originally I thought Atlas made an error in the engine type. It looks a lot like a Dash 9, but after looking at Santa Fe Dash 8-40CWs, I noticed that they look a lot like the Dash 9-44CWs. So this model could pass as a Dash 8 or a Dash 9 since they are very similar to each other.
If you had some silver Super chief or maybe even El Capitan cars it would look prototypical, and really good with those two 8-40cw s and 3751, as that would’ve been the same time they restored it to operable condition. Great review however too, I’ve been eyeing them in BNSF, ATSF and CSX. It’s a really good deal for O scale.

It actually looks like they reused the sound board from their U23B engines. Same horn, bell, crew talk, engine RPM sounds, etc. th-cam.com/video/Y_-Pro2GQ7g/w-d-xo.htmlm26s I personally don't see that as a massive problem, since the engine still sounds really nice overall.

I wish Atlas re-ran ANYTHING. They're stuck on making toyish "fantasy schemes" over the last few years and its saddening. They havent ran a GP60 in over 10 yrs, their MP15s are who knows where....the SD40s cancelled recently and many modern freight car schemes they make in the other scales they could bring to their line of O but I guess O scale is geared more towards the toy train collector, guess if ya want something modern it's best to stick to HO. *sigh*
The only flaw I see in this engine is that Atlas didn’t use the RS3L horn that the AT&SF’s Dash 8 and 9’s were known for. Regardless, I still want one.
I dont understand the "pulling power" part of this. It pulls only 2 pounds of freight cars? Or am I missing something? 2 Atlas freight cars exceed 2 pounds so this is a bit confusing.

These units are hooked up elephant style for the demonstration. Can they be run back-to-back? Should the number boards in the rear be filled in? Maybe that was a cost cutting measure. As always, great video. I always enjoy your presentations. I have an old Atlas EL switcher on my layout and several pieces of rolling stock. They make great stuff.
They did do the Dash 8-40C a while back, I think in the early 2000s. You can still find them on Ebay, but they are pretty rare and they most likely don't have speed control.

ATSF GEs had Leslie RS3L horns. As clearly shown at 8:20. But the sound is a Nathan K3LA.
