    Looks like that last downspout had an elbow on it at one time. Concrete guys took it off 😂😂

    Our entire society is breaking down in every way, including home building.

      I beg to differ. Our codes are stricter than ever and home building has had to become idiot-proof, mostly. There has always been and always will be sloppy workmanship, corners cut and rushed jobs. We've been building wood framed houses for 500 years, and only recently has the average joe been paying attention thanks to social media. The public is more aware and educated than ever before. That is a good thing. But to imply that things were better before is just plain wrong. with masonry foundations lacking waterproofing, subgrade slabs with no sump pump, no gfci or afci, with lead pipes, before hurricane ties, pressure treated sill plates, framing anchors, wood structural panels, fire separation between floors and attic, the list goes on. Nothing is free, and I truly believe that the consumer ultimately creates this problem by wanting a house for as cheap as humanly possible. It's rare that a customer wants to pay for quality. We want shit so cheap, and good local employees require such a high wage, insurance etc, that many of the "quality" companies (like mine) are pushed aside into the custom home market. I'm fine with that though. Let the Mexicans have the shitty little cookie cutter houses, I want no part of them anyway. TLDR you get what you pay for.

      This is very accurate! Custom home builders are becoming more rare and we are finding that shotty work is more common, simply to meet consumer demands. However, these prices do NOT reflect the level of craftsmanship they deserve these days. 50 years ago if you wanted cheap, you got it for VERY cheap and the workmanship was a fair reflection of that. Nowadays, your paying top dollar for shotty workmanship, there is nothing cheap in todays market...but plenty of poor quality work to go around!!

      The word is shoddy, not shotty. Its root is from Civil War contractors making shoes for the troops that were so poorly constructed that they soon fell apart.
      Thus, shoddy work..

      @@oltedders I'm not making the connection of how shoddy relates to shoes falling apart

    • @oltedders
      @oltedders 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @bassfan4150
      It has a lot to do with 19th-century linguistics. Let's start with the word shod. Shod is the past tense of ''to shoe'': shoed> sho'd. Like when you shoe a horse with a horse shoe. (S)he's been shod. Likewise shoeing the army. They, too, have been shod. Only with such cheap shoes that they quickly fell apart.
      Referring to all of these cheap goods as a whole was universally recognized by the word shoddy. i.e. all that they had been shoed with. The word became applied to any crappy work. Similarly, we use the word "cheesey". We mean that it's crappy, even though it is more specific to food items, like pizza, but to quality, when speaking of a non food item.
      I hope that explains the word better without me being perceived as condescending. I'm not trying to be that.
      Addendum: A related word is "slipshod", which stems from shoes made of thin material, being of flimsy construction or easily worn down. Without a heel, like slippers. A careless approach to or results of manufacturing.

    In LA this would be like 10 million and you would have to get on you knees and beg for a viewing appointment.

    I’m not worried as much about an “ elbow” as I am about half the support column hanging off the concrete slab !!!!!!!!!

    If you can inspect an entire home and not find any problems . . . That would be a shock.
    This isn't that bad from what i have seen. Not good, but not the worst for sure.
