For all you non carpenters out there, this guy is confused. There is a construction term called wane. Wane is a common condition when a piece of wood is missing a corner. The uploader of this video is seeing that the corner of the plate is not touching the triple beam. That's because the top corner of the plate is missing on the account of wane. If one were to bring a camera up to the same level as the contact point, there would be no gap. Yes, the bearing surface is slightly reduced, but given normal residential construction, totally irrelevant.

I wish we would have had you when we remodeled our house a decade ago. The building inspector said everything was good, but kept getting hung up on the porch. Made us buy certain wood to build it, certain bolts, made us install a hand rail. It all costed us a few extra thousand to do all the stuff he wanted to the porch. Then years later we realized there was so much stuff he missed inside, or just didn't care. The drywall was installed poorly, the floors weren't put in right, all the tile kept cracking because of something the builders did, among other things we keep finding. But he really wanted us to fix that porch. Turns out we were his last house before he retired.

The beam is resting fine on the plate. There is no gap. Visualize the sequence of the construction. The triple beam was up there naked on the top plate before anything was ever connected to it. That beam is supported on top of 5 studs and the end that is not supported is called a county lever and it's not supposed to have supports at the ends you numnut
