Blizzard had all the advantages and if they still lose to Marvel Rivals, they deserve to lose. They were first to market, they built a strong IP, everyone loved the game. And then they drove it into a ditch and instead of fixing it, they focussed on gaslighting players, virtue signalling and predatory monetisation. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
I agree and disagree, the had the advantage of being innovative when they came out and gathered a lot of players but a lot of people like me weren’t into the art style and FPS side of it so we never got into it. So I doubt Overwatch could have ever reached the same amount of people as Rivals…
@@ProfessionalTrafficplayer nah most left because: 1. Broken promises -> they hyped up PvE... and how did that turned out again? OW2 just lost the whole reason to justify its existence 2. Uber competitive balancing -> characters losing their identity and people who aren't competitive find it no longer fun to play 3. Silence and lack of content for too long 4. Wrong choices resulting in unfun metas DEI is probably the last reason why people left OW.

"Marvel Rivals gives players too much and is therefore a threat!"-if you ever needed concrete proof that game journalists are cozy with publishers, this is it. The entire article boils down to outrage over Marvel Rivals raising the bar, forcing the likes of Blizzard and EA to actually put effort into making good games and treating players with respect, rather than milking them dry like cattle.
they're just trying to delay the inevitable, that being losing their jobs (that they got unjustly thought DEI) and becoming unemployed bums with horrible opinions that nobody cares about, heck who even cares what those tools are saying to begin with?
My god that article saying Marvel released with too many heroes, what the fuck? So you’re telling me no one would be excited for F4, Deadpool, Cyclops, Rogue, Blade, Ant Man, War Machine, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Juggernaut, Colossus, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Thanos, Gamora, Nebula, Nova, Black Bolt, Sentry, Quicksilver, Ultron, Drax, Daredevil, Nick Fury, Jean Grey, She-Hulk, Vision, Silver Surfer, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Falcon, Kitty Pryde, X-23, Beta Ray Bill? That’s just off the top of my head! Ffs it’s MARVEL Edit: Adding Ghost Rider, Gambit, Carnage, Mystique, Shang Chi, Spider-Man 2099, Blackheart, Sandman, Elektra, The Eternals, Kingpin, Luke Cage, Killmonger, and, oh yeah, they still haven’t even added DOCTOR FUCKING DOOM yet! Edit: Edit: The list grows- MODOK, Iceman, Taskmaster, The Sentinels, Lady Sif, Lady Death, Agatha Harkness, Red Skull, Apocalypse, Kang the Conqueror, Red Guardian, Gorr, Abomination, Sabertooth, Wasp, Ghost, Mysterio (I realize some of these would be better as skins, but where is the fun in that?)
10 years ago I went down the Wikipedia rabbit hole of marvel characters. I'm pretty sure I read several thousand unique character pages over 2 years before I was done.
This game literally made my wife interested in the MCU. She bought Disney+ to watch the movies. And dear Lord she insta bought the Malice skin today first thing after logging in. Keep in mind my wife always said how dumb I am spending money on skins in games. How the turntable lol
Another thing marvel rivals has done, which has gone mostly unnoticed among streamers. Is the fact when they accidently banned ALL Mac OS users for 100 years by mistake for cheating. (Some Linux users were affected too). They put out a public apology on discord and reversed all the bans within 24 hours. Granted myself and few others worked hard to get this noticed. I was blown away with the transparency and accountability. Naturally after this, I felt more compelled to spend money to support the game.
I've said this before. A good bit of the characters are b and c list characters. And that's great. They still have a bunch more of them to pull from. Like take Jeff the Landshark. Most people didn't really know much about him before the game. And now he's the unofficial mascot of the game.
@@juiceboxbzrk I think you are confused. I'm not referring to how people say characters are rated in the games. I'm referring to how popular they are in comics. Like the Guardians of the Galaxy were considered b or c tier characters before the movies made them more popular. Where as most of the main X-men characters were A listers.
They call THEMSELVES “industry”experts, just like they call THEMSELVES “game journalists”. Most of this people don’t know anything about the lore of the characters, the world, or anything in between. Sure I can call myself a “boxer giant” or a “1 hit KO machine” but put me in a ring with an amateur boxer and I’m getting demolish. PS I haven’t boxed a day in my life.
Why are these guys always outing themselves as terrible at games. And then they go on to industry roles, no wonder the Western industry is washed half of the directors used to work for polygon and ziff davis
"Most of this people don’t know anything about the lore of the characters, the world, or anything in between". I am not a huge fan of capeshit but god damn the game is fun to play
Also I want to point out that the servers worked day one and never stopped! I think it's the first time I see a big release WITHOUT any connection/servers/crossplay issues. Yes, the servers aren't the best, some people have high ping, but at least everyone can get in a game in less than 3 seconds, that's crazy!
I never had any issues with ping, connection or anything, playing on EU. Granted I don't play a crazy amount of time but any time I hopped on I had 0 issues. I had some GPU crashes but that's another story. Crazy how polished the game is at launch but it used to be like that back in the day, this should be a standard for every company
its kinda funny actually after gold plus usually everyone plays 2 2 2 or 3 1 2. 1 3 2. or 1 2 3. i think in 200 hours of gameplay in both low elo and gm theres only been like maybe peak 20 games where theres like 4 dps

Imagine making a fun , finished game with solid monetization , great characters and devs that follow the lore and listen /communicate with the community ?
I don't need to imagine, I lived it with Warframe, and now with Marvil Rival, we should support games like that and reject the money grabbing no fun games
Overwatch 2 promised us so much and on release they took loot boxes away, 6v6 away, and took away PVE. Overwatch 2 was supposed to have a fun weather system which would have breathed new life into old maps. Marvel Rivals matched ON RELEASE what Overwatch tooks years to develop and gave us everything that Overwatch took away. and it shows.
To be fair, the original Overwatch lootboxes weren't _that_ bad, since you could very regularly get them for free through gameplay. The battle pass and cash shop they implemented is 10 times more predatory. The biggest slap in the face though was cancelling the PvE campaign.
Yep, pretty much this. OW2 was nothing short of the rebranding of a game for more money. My conscience is clear tho, in the little time I played OW2, I spent exactly 0$ on it. Fuck Blizzard/Activision-Microsoft.
Overwatch 2... yet we're referencing OLD maps? That just leads me to believe that it's the same game. I always just expected Overwatch 2 to be just a cash grab.
I haven't had this much fun in a game since... well ever, i love the characters, i love the gameplay, i love the free cosmetics, i love the way you can see everyones highlights, i love how balanced it is, i love that you dont lose all the time, i love seeing everyones MVP highlight after you finish a game, i love that they listen to the community, i love that they have more heros to offer, it has everything people have been asking for And all big companies can either STAY MAD or do better
I hope the game ends up with 100+ heroes. Keep adding them until you get down to the Avengers headquarters janitorial staff. Marvel Rivals is a Wakeup Call. Also, hope you're still safe from the fires.
The complaint about the large roster reminds me of some comments years and years ago regarding how Warframe could never add new frames because there wasn't enough design space to constantly give people new things to play with...and yet here we are, years later, with a roster over 50.
Say what you want about the game, but league of legends proves this wrong as well. The game has almost 170 champions and despite the limitations of a 2d moba, every champion feels more or less different to play. Naturally it's a balancing nightmare, but that just comes with the territory
Marvel Rivals basically took out all the bad things from Overwatch that Blizzard failed to do and kept all the good things that made Overwatch good. Firstly, Marvel Rivals is entirely free to play, with all characters available since the beginning. There's no unfair advantage like League of Legend that you have to unlock hero or don't have a summoner spell until certain level compared to other players who have played longer than you. The tools are all equal to everyone regardless of playtime. Secondly, the art design in this game is very visually appealing to look at, and it's just really well designed. They have some of the best art designs I have ever seen. Look at the Loki skin that came with the season 1 battle pass that just launched recently. Just that one skin itself is already worth it, and they're selling their battle pass for $10 for multiple legendary and epic skins that are amazing, including Loki, Iron Man, Adam Warlock, Wolverine, Racoon, etc. If you were to put those skins on other AAA game company, they would charge you $15-$20 for each one of those skins because of monetization. Battle pass should never expire in any game. Period. And Marvel Rivals nailed it too, because their battle pass doesn't expire. Third, this game doesn't push their monetization on the users face and forcing players to buy their in-game cosmetic. You have to actively go out of your way to find it and go through them. There's no advertisement when you log into screen that keep pushing players to buy their skins and go in their store like Valorant. This is a huge plus in my book. Lastly, the heroes are just fun to play and you can pick one up fairly quickly. It's not a game where it's complicated that you have to take a long time to figure out how your abilities work or what you're supposed to do. Most people already know Hulk, and with Hulk comes with smash. Those two words don't separate. With Iron Man, he's known for his suit that shoots laser beam, pulses, rockets, and fly in the air. That's it. Most importantly, their developers communicate and actively listen to the players feedback to change and adjust their game. I went out of my way to take their survey, and their survey was actually very detailed in the sense that it asked me which hero I didn't like and which I did like. The next question asked me what is the reason I didn't like playing a hero and what was the reason I liked playing a hero? Then the next question asked me what I would change to make that hero better so that it would make me want to play them. It mentioned about the specific ability for each hero I put as I didn't like to play, as well as what specific ability made it fun to play that I put that I liked. They basically did this for maps, sounds and other things as well. I was honestly surprised at how detailed it was that I took the time to give them all the feedback. P.S. Their soundtrack is also really good. Even just sitting in the main menu and listen to their music is great. The artist Chrissy Costanza they hired as a singer for their song "Til the End" has an amazing voice. It feels like I'm watching an anime introduction, introducing each hero and a bit of their animation and power, except this is MCU. Marvel Rivals literally nailed almost everything from design point of view, and that's why it's so popular and why people love it.
I think an amazing example of this is the character, Jeff the LandShark. Yes, he's the current Strategists punching bag, but he was such an obscure creature, only showing up in some Gwenpool/Deadpool/Hawkeye/Young Avengers comics but no real solo comic presence outside of his Marvel Unlimited series. But look at how much he's become an icon with this game alone. Love him or hate him, this shows how much theyre able to pull even lesser known characters and push them to new heights.
Not even just Jeff either. You have Galactica, Magik, and Psylocke, and to an extent Squirrel Girl and Peni Parker, all characters with little public favor all recieved so well by the audience.
@@thegamewoods8473 Psylocke? Psylocke is very beloved and recognized character, not like MCU characters of course but not on the level of obscurity with the rest of characters you mentioned. Well, yeah, this is obscure Middle Ages version of Psylocke that is not a Kwannon or Betsy Braddock, but almost everyone that know her, like her because Kwannon (despite her conscience being replaced by Betsy for most of the existence of this person) is drawn so sexy. And in Marvel Rivals this exact skin continues to make people breath heavy xD Peni Parker basically random Gundam easter egg, but Spiderverse and now Rivals picked her up into spotlight and now ofc her comic lore also expanding and continuing, which is hilarious (but very cool, as her popularity in this two works points out that people are liked the concept so its worth developing even if this was not planned initially. This is the right call given ever-growing popularity of anime and manga in the West, so ofc we want a high tech spider mecha piloted by a girl in close approximation of Samus zero suit)
@@AtticusKarpenter fair enough, but yeah she's no MCU stardom was more so my point. If you asked 100 people on the street to name the X-Men you'd be hard pressed to hear Psylocke be mentioned. But now people are talking about her. It's the Smash Bros effect lowkey
It seems to be a running trend that great games get attacked by "games journalists". It's safe to say that these clowns have no credibility anymore, and mainstream games journalism is essentially worthless now, whereas we watch youtubers etc, because we relate to what they talk about, and it makes sense.
Rivals has a huge advantage in having established characters to choose from. Netease has to spend a lot less on desigining new characters and instead focus entirely on making them fun and enjoyable to play OW doesn't stand a chance
While having recognizable IP is a leg up. The style has drawn people towards characters they never even heard of and the gameplay being fun is the cherry on top. If IP alone was enough to make a game successful then Marvel's avengers and midnight suns would still be around but we know how that went
Of course OW doesn't stand a chance. Blizzard isn't trying and hasn't been trying. The truth is their are enough actiblizzard taint lickers for them to just make money forever. You can lead blizz fanboy to a good game, but you can't give him a brain.
@@ericknunez8069 i thought Midnight suns was actually kinda fun, it just had so many performance issues for me, constant crashing on cutscenes, it took me at least 6 tries to get past the opening cutscene.
Your point about people being familiar with the characters powers is a point I’ve tried to make. Everyone knows spider man will have webs, hulk will be big and smash, Thor will have a hammer and so on. Makes it easily more approachable

Whoever wrote that article wasn't just a noob to hero shooters, but a noob to MARVEL. I saw someone calculate the fact that if rivals were to put 1 character per day into the game it would take several thousand years until the roster was anywhere near done from the current lineup, and after a few thousand years there would be even more. This is a potentially endless game with an infinite number of characters.
If there is really over 364,250 characters in the line up that is a pretty bloated line up unless they are making fan characters canon/alternate versions as characters.
@@phantom-ri2tg unsure about this because superior iron man is a skin not a seperate alternate version of iron man, also 364k characters is a lot and i find it hard to believe
I think that's a slight exaggeration, but not too far off. A quick google search says the total number of Marvel characters is about 80,000 according to a Marvel database. You'd need about 365,000 to release a new character every day for 1,000 years. That being said, the sentiment of the argument is true in the fact that Marvel has more than enough characters for what NetEase is doing.
15:42 part of me can't stop laughing at just how ridiculous but amazing that would be. A Handicapped Hero who is actually treated as a viable and cool character to play as, instead of a diversity checkbox.
I know they won't bc it wouldn't be fair on a gameplay level, but imagine if daredevil was blind, but you could see stuff like enemy footsteps and attacks through walls. There is genuinly a way to turn disability into gameplay mechanics and have them be fun
@@JackdotC I saw speculating in the comments of another video on how Daredevil would play if he was in Marvel Rivals, and one suggestion is that he would be immune to the Blind status effect. Perhaps when blinded, rather than being totally incapacitated, it would switch to a black and white or wireframe mode for the duration of the status. Of course, so far only Cloak can inflict the Blind status, but there are other potential characters who could be added to the game who could also have a Blind effect ability, like Dazzler.

Marvel rivals made me actually break and buy their battlepass, Overwatch has never made me even think about buying theirs. The battle pass is a solid 9/10, it would've been 10 but Peni only gets a recolor in it
Same, I usually avoid battle passes, but I've had such a blast playing this so far. Also seeing how quickly they have been pumping out content/patches/reworks I felt good doing it. One thing I will say I wish the store skins were either cheaper, or there were more rewards for credits doing daily tasks and challenges. I don't think I even got enough to buy a single one after doing everything in season 0.
The cosmetics are so good that they actually entice me to play different characters. Mantis became my main because of her awesome armor skin and of course I needed the battlepass to get it, so... they twisted my arm, I swear.

no joke, i played a QP match ( as a warm up for comp ) and won an entire match with 5 support and 1 DPS, bringing the payload from A to B! and honestly, you’d be hard pressed to be able to do that in Overwatch. i’d played OW for years, and i’ve always been a support main, but the power you feel as a support in Marvel Rivals is absolutely uncontested. for the first time, i actually ENJOY and have fun being support! it’s great 😆 i also love that i don’t feel like i’m being punished in Comp if the rest of my team can’t keep up with my skill level, as a healer, and we end up losing. i don’t mind losing like i did in OW because i’m actually still able to climb rank, which is great! with OW it was practically impossible to climb rank as a healer unless your team was 100% competent, at all times. 😭 anyways, as a healer main, Marvel Rivals is amazinggg for us healer girlies 🙏🙏🙏
Yes because a sustainfest where every single ult is invulnerability that lasts long enough for the next ult to come online is such fun... I played on the opposite side of that teamcomp and quit the game for how awful that experience was. Being held hostage in a game where nothing ever happens, and everything you do is instantly erased (for what felt like half an hour) is not the gameplay I would imagine being popular...
@@JustTodd24 actually ☝️🤓 not every healer ult sustains invulnerability so if you’re smart about your tactics, you could take down a squishy healer as a DPS or a tank! maybe you’re just bad at the game or the people you were playing with were bad ☺️🖤
@ You enjoy the game because YOUR gameplay loop is over powered. Unfortunately for me, I actually enjoy risk in a match. If there are 5 supports on a team, and they all have eyes and brains, there is ZERO counterplay (during neutral) other than oneshots. Healing numbers are completely ridiculous, they might as well have 1500ehp each. When supports can just ignore that tanks exist because they do so little damage, I ask myself what the job of a tank is. Are tanks meant to just sit there and be a punching bag, or are they supposed to command space and actually pose a threat? You cant pose a threat when you provide zero value in a teamfight other than being an immovable wall.
The ammount of minute details in the new NY maps, them casting the cartoon voice actors to reprise their roles, the dialogue, them going out of their way to add mechanics and fun things for each character so they all feel like youd expect them to play, if that isnt good fanservice and show of care for the comics and what fans like, i dont know what is.

This is so refreshing for people like me and gaming as a whole. People are more interested in the IP now and the devs are bringing so much content and polish to the game without locking out ANY content. This is the kind of community and dev support I wanted out of games like Dead by Daylight and never got.
Part of the reason I like the game so much is how accessible it is to non-Marvel fans. It’s got just enough characters that any person would recognize mixed with characters who don’t appear in a ton of stuff to try and introduce people to them. They have origins for the skins, with exact issue numbers, and the characters are written, voice acted and animated so well that their personalities are on full display. I’m legit so happy to be a Marvel fan right now.
Huh? In what world is this game not AAA? It has full Marvel licensing and was made by one of the largest companies in the world in NetEase. The game is fun, but come on now.
Blizzard is double f’d with the success of POE2 also. They really thought OW was gonna keep cruising and they could just keep sucker punching their audience. They deserve every lost customer they get.
I legit have never paid just for a skin or cosmetic in a game before. I've purchased DLCs and a handful of battlepasses. This game is the first time I've bought a skin. Thor's Love and Thunder skin, as a Thor main ans him being my favourite Marvel hero, I bought it and wanted to support this game.
The "journalist" sounds like they just get stopped trying to insta lock duelist in bronze lobbies, so they went back to quick play and complains they still don't get to play the hero they want, when nothing is stopping them from just playing how they want and having fun. Vocal minorities like this ruined games before (I think there is a case for them ruining overwatch), so hopefully the 90% player retention gets translated into Chinese better than the article does.
For real, I always say to my mate. This game allows you to be the change you want to see. If you feel DPS is not doing enough, you can switch to DPS. If you think the team needs a vanguard then you can switch to vanguard. Ultimately, you get to have fun without the restrictions of role queue.
In eastern countries there have been numerous incredibly talented studios but their entire portfolio was bankrolled by p2w gacha games. In eastern countries p2w is completely normal and even encouraged but in the west the culture is different. Now that eastern companies realized this and they release games without blatant p2w (wukong, stellar blade, marvel rivals, etc.) the western studios FINALLY have some competition in the western regions. Exciting times!
They figured it out for sure, western studios will all be destroyed by their gender politics and stuff literally no one asked for. If we get great games I don't really care who makes them, just don't give us slop and then gaslight the players because you made a crap product
you people only care about eastern game dev when you find something that is in your complete interest, i didnt hear all this eastern praise before this whole opposition culture started it's not "the new hotness", youre just late to the party
Another of my favorite things is the way they reimagine or call back to obscure versions of these characters. As someone who was introduced to Marvel through the MCU, seeing these different versions of characters I love is extremely exciting as a fan, and then also seeing them alongside other characters that look just as cool and wanting to learn more about them. It's extremely fun.
I appreciate them SO MUCH for showing where a skin debuted up to the exact comic issue. Hopefully more people start to read the comics! And honestly, their unique skins are so good I hope Marvel starts making comics with these versions of the characters!
Invisible woman is one of the best designed supports I've played in a hero shooter. Between her, mantis and luna snow, I'm really happy. Plus I really don't feel pressured to spend money.
I love that , if you bought a Battle Pass, you keep it after the end of the season and you can complet it when you want. It's crazy that this is not the standard with seasonal passes
I personally cannot wait to see how they implement Wasp when/if (keeping my fingers crossed) they do bring her in. She's definitely in my top 3 favorite Avengers. I was never super big into Super Heroes growing up (My grandparents were pretty strict with what I was and wasn't allowed to watch/read/etc.) so I only really started getting into Marvel when my uncle took my cousin and I to see the first MCU Avengers film. Since then, I've met some awesome friends who have helped me get into Marvel more, so on top of the MCU, I've seen Spectacular Spider-Man, all of the pre-MCU Spider-Man movies, the new Spider-Verse movies, just started watching the X-Man Movies and Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I've played the PS4/PS5 Spider-Man games, a friend of mine is gonna be getting me the Guardians of the Galaxy video game, and of course now Marvel Rivals I've been thrust into this new awesome world that feels like it has endless possibilities. I'm still wanting to learn about a bunch of the Heroes from the game that I don't know a lot about, and I look forward to learning about more that they add in. So I'm really glad to see that people agree that this game isn't going anywhere soon. P.S. If you want to get better at Moon Knight, the secret is that if you have DID like him (and myself lol) then the game automatically makes you better at playing him lol
The amount of coping from that journalist is almost telling of how butthurt the industry is over such an obvious success. They know that the answer to getting their games to go big was right there in front of their faces and that they ignored it in favor of making (less) money faster, now they're angry that someone decided to play the long game. Absolute idiots, what a hilarious article to listen to while thinking of the match I'll play today once I'm home from work.
Good character design doesn’t even mean top of the line graphics that some developers think should be the case. the binding of Isaac has wonderful character design and reasons to play any and every character.. and it’s not like I’m playing a hyper realistic game there 😂
Another thing about rivals is that there isn't a rogue dev on twitter trying to soap box anything. Not a single negative thing has come out because they're just trying to make a good game and I love that
They're chinese they aren't allowed to be on twitter Also a dev saying things on their personnal social media account shouldn't be relevant to the game
@@ni9274 A dev disparaging their core demographic is relevant because it implies content and decisions specifically made to SPITE us because of the negative sentiment from the dev.
@@ni9274 Why shouldn't it be relevant? If I work at the bank and I go outside and start yelling about how I hate blacks. That is relevant. It's not gonna matter if im on the clock or not. When you brought up that they could just keeping pumping mutants into the game and then mention Nightcrawler it made me go on a complete daydream about how he'd look in game and how his abilities would work, and it really made me want him in the roster. He'd definitely be a duelist who'd wield dual blades and teleport around the map, maybe similarly too Magik but in a cloud of smoke or a long-range teleport kind of like how Reaper teleports.
Man, I can't wait for them to add Nightcrawler and Mystic to the game. Imagine two characters, one who can teleport across the map, maybe has very little health, but is a good damage dealer like Iron Fist, and the other is a pure spy from TF2, they are already flirting with such themes, invisible woman, literally light stealth. And these characters can work in tandem. Man, I can't wait.
Former OW, AL player, i found my new daddy. It doesn't matter if they're Chinese. At least they treat their players right. So long Respawn, so long Blizzard, it was fun while it last. Will not miss you.
I just hope they keep treating the player right. In my opinion Rivals has a huge potential to dethrone all hero shooters. Except maybe Deadlock, but I think thats more of a moba instead
@@1080-t8q why is it "crazy" tho? so far, Chinese devs are the only ones that's been putting the fun back to video games. sure there's some bad apples out there, but the fact that NetEase went from a mobile game dev to a working hero shooter, is astounding. they understand the business, they know the market, they know what the demand, and they went for a business opportunity. and it works.
Holy fuck, people, it's just a game, you don't need to control those puppets to the peak perfection. Just have fun, forget the pro-gaming esport meta shit, that's just going to make you frustrated and/or bored. Edit: Characters wish list... Gambit, X-23, Deadpool, Spidergwen, Carnage, Ben Reilly's Scarlet Spider (the 90s one), Cyclops, Chamber (or perhaps they're too similar...?) X-man (Nate grey).
Good. I hope Rivals destroys overwatch for Blizzard totally ignoring the needs of its fans. They should've stayed with the original patch notes where all heroes are OP, added player-side hero bans and 6v6, and kicked the advice of all the "pro OWL players" to the curb for destroying the game for literally everyone else. The hilarious thing is that all the high-performance players got exactly what they wanted. Playing only with themselves while the majority of players play a game that caters to everyone. Screw OW. They got what they deserved and no one is going to miss it going into irrelevancy
@@malcovich_games I wonder the whole "balancing the game for the top players" fiasco is because blizzard is copying dota2? since we all know dota came from mod for warcraft 3, and blizz thought that same recipe for MOBA will be fine used on other genre.
@@SparkSphereIdeas Maybe that's what happened?! I heard stories that WoW is being balanced by a math expert battling against top raiders to stop them from finishing their raid content in two weeks... and Overwatch was being balanced by an RPG player, since it was going to be a sci-fi MMO before being retooled.
Lol they never balanced towards pro play, cause if they did then goats would have actually been nerfed. Balancing towards gold and silver Mercy one tricks ruined the game. Pro players were the ones asking for proper hero bans and removed role queue but you prob wouldn't know that since you're a yappatron.

Just a fun fact, I was watching player count and it hit an all new time high around 4ish pm est when season 1 dropped. Almost unheard in a live service game.

I want to see Kingpin, Elektra, and Abomination. There's over 10,000 Marvel main heroes and 70,000 support / potential characters. Can you imagine years from now when we have League of Legends size of 140+ roster?
That's the thing with Chinese live service games, they design them for RETENTION first and foremost, and then they slap the dark patterns on top of that, the strategy is to "gather and keep as much frogs as you can, and cook them all very slowly, but surely" And it works for them, and it works for us. I've been hooked to Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero since these games released, I'm having a good time with these games and I feel continuously comfortable spending in them, because they continue to provide good continuous stories, good gameplay, novelty, good looking cosplayers and amazing fanarts.
I'm sorry, but I refuse to get myself hooked on 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩, of all things. No hate, but there's something about that game that rubs me the wrong way. It also dosen't help that the first thing I've seen about the game was some questionable fanart, (🤢), and annoying ads along the likes of Raid Shadow Legends.
This. This is what a lot of people aren't seeing. I hope the game lives on and people can enjoy it for a good long while... I personally can't I think it looks terrible, but atleast it's stylized so I can't complain... but... I don't think it's going to last longterm. People are still in the Honeymoon phase, give it another month and we'll see.
The average chinese live service game is extremely predatory, Genshin Impact keeps you hooked cause of the gamgling. "I feel continuously comfortable spending in them" Obviously you feel good spending money on these games, their goal is to make you addicted
@@ni9274 like I said, they make the games with focus on retention, monetization as a side effect of having a high retention game A lot of money is put into the game is for the sake of adding to the game experience so that it retains more, these games cost upwards of 100~200 million dollars every year to continuously develop and they deliver contentful updates every 6 or so weeks with at least one very large expansion every year. I have been playing gacha games for a long time. Near day 1 NA player for FGO. Anyone that plays it will probably admit as a gacha game, it is pretty bad. Where the only redeeming aspect of it is the story basically carrying it by this point. I also still play Arknights and I would say that game sets a pretty good standard of what a gacha game should be. You really don't feel like you are being taken advantage of when playing it. I also played Girls Frontline 1 but had to drop it due to time constraints but they just released Girls Frontline 2 and that has me hooked. Since I don't really play gacha games for pvp(gfl2 is basically optional with min effort) and only pve for the story. The devs have to convince their players to continue rolling. Which is probably significantly harder to do when the players are not competing with each other. People think gacha games started with China, I would argue not really, I think they are the ones that helped populate it globally. Think gacha mechanics are basically a South East Asian thing that were not just tied to video games. They are basically gumball toy machines you used to see in the US and you might still find them. The earliest video game I can name that was a gacha game is Kantai Collection, which is a browser game released in 2013, which I think is still around. Think Japan largely popularized the mechanic for video games, just that they are so insular they kind of only released it for themselves and not a global market. Think Azur Lane, Fire Emblem, FGO were the first to break international markets. Now China is the one that is largely making these games and they don't seem to mind releasing games internationally like Japan. Currently I still play FGO which is Japanese, Arknights, and Girls Frontline 2, which are Chinese. The developers for Girls Frontline were known to be a roach company, because they definitely care about their IP and continued to develop it despite not having much funds. They have a story to tell and they would live off of almost nothing to keep the servers running. FGO on the other hand, Sony won't let rest until it stops making them money. The main writer probably is getting tired of writing for it and probably wants to do other things. Seems like he is generally fine with it, because it helps to bankroll his side projects that gets greenlit.
@@Layalinn97 Oh absolutely I'm just hoping they are able to do so that makes both sides happy rather than shoe horning in a comp scene like OW did for example.

It blows me a way to hear they will run out of characters me and my friend are marvel nerds through and through. While playing one of are favorite things to do is bet on what characters will be skins and witch will be their own hero. That idea that they would run out made us laugh for hours as we listed the 100 plus d list characters like stilt man, the gladiator, and that led us into discussing how many characters writers have made for the X-Men cause it was kind of your opportunity to leave a mark on marvel history.
It's not that they're necessarily evil or ignoring players, IMO. It's that they've made so much money and created this monolithic companies that cannot react to changes quickly, or are completely out of touch of what users want (see recent comments from the Bethesda guy). They're sinking in bureaucracy and inefficiency. This increases the cost of games and deliver times. And also makes high level execs make very conservative decisions to not rock the boat. These companies have also hired too many activists which are causing them to self-destroy (see videos about the recent email coming from an insider at Ubisoft). They don't know what to do about their activists. They're like Kamikaze warriors attacking the wrong side. Self righteous people who either think they cannot get fired, or don't care because they're doing it "for the cause".
heres a quote from a hero hai video i saw today: "you need us we don't need you" that is 100% true! the companies need us to play their games so they can make money, but us gamers don't have to play their games that they make. without the gamers the companies are nothing! it's about time the companies woke up and realized that if they keep alienating the people who want to see the games succeed; the majority sane people who give constructive criticism, they wont have any money. you need to stand, out you need to give an experience that nobody else is doing, or in the case of marvel rivals; do something better than your competition, give us a reason to play your games. don't try to milk our wallets dry, you have to EARN our money, you are not entitled to our money, you earn it you have to be worthy of our money too many corpos don't realize that
@@Malxer It's a big competition, but I think the overwatch fixes that are needed are so trivial to implement and they refuse to do it for whatever reason.
10:56 PREACH BROTHER. I'm so sick of being pushed out of game after game by the sweats, the cheaters, and the toxic tryhards. Another great example of the success of not catering to the blowhard minority is Helldivers II, being a Co-Op only game with a very tunable difficulty scale make you don't have to worry about what is BiS or whether a cheater is going to come along and ruin your day. My only concern for Marvel Rivals is that some cheaters have already been caught. I hope Netease comes down on cheaters hard and starts suing them like other companies have started to do.
I remember back then when they announced they're releasing a marvel game that's like overwatch, I was skeptical thinking it would flop but when me and my friends played we fell in love with the game. We've been playing almost everyday since it's release and it really is an enjoyable game, the devs listens to its audience and in just 1 month they already released patch notes, new maps and new heroes.
nah, i cherish my BattleNet account because of Starcraft 2 fan content in Arcade. Most hilarious thing? Best SC2 fan content (Nexus Coop for example) are also by Chinese, just like Marvel Rivals. Also i can't access BattleNet without VPN because i'm from Russia, lol. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
good riddance indeed😂
I lost faith in Overwatch when they didnt do anything for years and only release Overwatch 2 (just to take away the free skins we can earn)
I agree and disagree, the had the advantage of being innovative when they came out and gathered a lot of players but a lot of people like me weren’t into the art style and FPS side of it so we never got into it.
So I doubt Overwatch could have ever reached the same amount of people as Rivals…

because its a marvel ip and they know they cooked hard af they probably anticipated huge numbers
high ping probably because they are connected from other countries, since they let you choose which server to play in

59 unique warframes so far. Discounting prime variants.
Say what you want about the game, but league of legends proves this wrong as well. The game has almost 170 champions and despite the limitations of a 2d moba, every champion feels more or less different to play. Naturally it's a balancing nightmare, but that just comes with the territory
And don’t even get me started on Super Smash Bros Ultimate
50?!?! I stopped playing when they were like.... 15 i think?
Warframe unironically is the best free fps ever made
Marvel Rivals basically took out all the bad things from Overwatch that Blizzard failed to do and kept all the good things that made Overwatch good.
@@thegamewoods8473I know these characters due to lego marvel. 😏😼
And in Marvel Rivals this exact skin continues to make people breath heavy xD
Peni Parker basically random Gundam easter egg, but Spiderverse and now Rivals picked her up into spotlight and now ofc her comic lore also expanding and continuing, which is hilarious (but very cool, as her popularity in this two works points out that people are liked the concept so its worth developing even if this was not planned initially.

Prior to marvel rivals i didnt knew Jeff existed, same with Galacta. Now i wish i knew earlier but i love them especially the goofy sharky boi

Netease has to spend a lot less on desigining new characters and instead focus entirely on making them fun and enjoyable to play
OW doesn't stand a chance
While having recognizable IP is a leg up. The style has drawn people towards characters they never even heard of and the gameplay being fun is the cherry on top.
If IP alone was enough to make a game successful then Marvel's avengers and midnight suns would still be around but we know how that went
@ericknunez8069 oh 100% the style does a lot of leg lifting
not to mention they need more characters, like if they didn't have spider man some people wouldn't play the game
Of course OW doesn't stand a chance. Blizzard isn't trying and hasn't been trying. The truth is their are enough actiblizzard taint lickers for them to just make money forever. You can lead blizz fanboy to a good game, but you can't give him a brain.

a radio channel in my hometown area had a slogan that perfectly describes Rivals: "big city deal with a small town feel"
Every game has potential for infinite number of characters, they just gotta create it
Prove it
I think that's a slight exaggeration, but not too far off. A quick google search says the total number of Marvel characters is about 80,000 according to a Marvel database. You'd need about 365,000 to release a new character every day for 1,000 years. That being said, the sentiment of the argument is true in the fact that Marvel has more than enough characters for what NetEase is doing.

This game fixed my superhero movie burnout. I literally rewatched Marvel Movies both old and new because of this game.
Same brother
i went to read comics because of this game lol
ditto. finally brought myself to see _new mutants_

@@fomoyoloi mean, it seems obvious but when you see all the AAA slop, it clearly isn't
Not a single negative thing has come out because they're just trying to make a good game and I love that
Speaking of rogue, we need her in the game
They're chinese they aren't allowed to be on twitter

When you brought up that they could just keeping pumping mutants into the game and then mention Nightcrawler it made me go on a complete daydream about how he'd look in game and how his abilities would work, and it really made me want him in the roster. He'd definitely be a duelist who'd wield dual blades and teleport around the map, maybe similarly too Magik but in a cloud of smoke or a long-range teleport kind of like how Reaper teleports.
I gasped and creamed reading this. This would be so fire!
Wait... gamers like it when you treat them well, and give them good content?!?!?? Weird
@@mipi12323Deadlock is more of something like Smite than Ow / Rivals honestly

@@1080-t8q why is it "crazy" tho? so far, Chinese devs are the only ones that's been putting the fun back to video games. sure there's some bad apples out there, but the fact that NetEase went from a mobile game dev to a working hero shooter, is astounding. they understand the business, they know the market, they know what the demand, and they went for a business opportunity. and it works.
Holy fuck, people, it's just a game, you don't need to control those puppets to the peak perfection. Just have fun, forget the pro-gaming esport meta shit, that's just going to make you frustrated and/or bored.

World of Warcraft was destroyed for similar reasons, among other things, balancing the game for the top players

The thing that amazes me most is that even with the volume of players we have, there are NO server issues
My guess is companies like Blizzard and EA/Respawn are just waiting for Marvel Rivals to fail and for the player base to crawl right back to them without them having to do a thing. I don’t think it’s gonna go down that way, Marvel Rivals is doing too good but honestly you never really know
I honestly hope Rivals succeeds and continues to do so, to make these shit companies put out an effort

That's the thing with Chinese live service games, they design them for RETENTION first and foremost, and then they slap the dark patterns on top of that, the strategy is to "gather and keep as much frogs as you can, and cook them all very slowly, but surely"
And it works for them, and it works for us.
I've been hooked to Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero since these games released, I'm having a good time with these games and I feel continuously comfortable spending in them, because they continue to provide good continuous stories, good gameplay, novelty, good looking cosplayers and amazing fanarts.

@@ni9274 like I said, they make the games with focus on retention, monetization as a side effect of having a high retention game
A lot of money is put into the game is for the sake of adding to the game experience so that it retains more, these games cost upwards of 100~200 million dollars every year to continuously develop and they deliver contentful updates every 6 or so weeks with at least one very large expansion every year. These games have a very tight extremely efficient model that produces very porofitable products and also, very good products
1:45 keep in mind that’s steam alone, there’s a large proportion of people who got it through epic games as well
If they ask when does it end on characters I would just pull out my Marvel Character Encyclopedia book on the table and even that isn’t all.
Time and time again the industry doesn't learn that forcing a game to be "competitive" doesn't work. Let the people have fun for Christ sake
Forcing a game to be competitive isn’t good. Balancing the game so that a competitive scene is balanced is perfectly fine.

Blizzard should be showing this video in their end of year financial meetings. Next to a PowerPoint presentation of dropping profits.....

My only concern for Marvel Rivals is that some cheaters have already been caught. I hope Netease comes down on cheaters hard and starts suing them like other companies have started to do.
Marvel Rivals is a threat to what? Overwatch 2? The game that died when it was announced?
I remember back then when they announced they're releasing a marvel game that's like overwatch, I was skeptical thinking it would flop but when me and my friends played we fell in love with the game.
